'On the Switch on a later date' is frustrating in a way as we don't get parity with the other consoles, but a godsend if it turns out to be horrible on the PSBox.
I loved my time with the Wii U, but realistically 95% of the good stuff is on the Switch. XCX and Nintendoland are the obvious exceptions, and W101 is better with the Wii U Gamepad.
Browsing the internet, I found Platinum Games only has a running capital of 1,505,000,000 yen, which is about 10m dollars. I very much doubt Bayonetta made 450m dollars.
Something tells me the truth lies somewhere in between. There’s what Platinum we’re originally willing to pay, what Taylor asked for, and then what Platinum offered after hearing the figure Taylor thought she was worth so she’d go away.
And yes video games make money, but they also cost a lot as well, especially when it comes to worldwide localisation. Now it makes sense why Nintendo prefers to make games where the characters just ‘Woo Hoo’ or ‘Eyarrr’.
TV series, Film franchises, Book shared universes, Video games. At some point either the audience or the creator gets bored, and things need to stop. The best works of fiction are those that have a beginning, middle, and end where the story grows and flows until the final act and all the loose threads are cleaned up. You don’t get tired of the characters, or things start to repeat.
I think Layton went on for about 4 too many games as the storytelling and the puzzles became repetitive and a chore. But the first three were great.
Who needs Tears OffThe Kingdom when you can fire the little man out of a cannon into the side of a mountain? I literally wasted hundreds of hours doing that as a kid.
I think it's run it's course. It isn't enough of a success to make it run better, and the humour is feeling really dated now. Platinum and Capcom do this sort of thing far better.
It would seem silly to release MK at the same time a new SF is coming out- there just isn’t a big enough fan base of fighters to support 2 games at once these days.
I think Square dumping their Western AAA divisions have some play in this. I’m betting they’re trying to keep profits up and releasing 20-30 little games (quite a few quick turnaround ports) will hopefully equal the revenue of a Tomb Raider or something, but with less risk of putting all your chips on one number.
I get the feeling for the past couple of years Nintendo has shifted their attention to releasing the majority of their big games in the beginning of the year as opposed to focusing the big hitters in September, October and November. The truth is there are some great games coming early next year, but the end of this year has tailed off somewhat (although I’m looking forward to Bayonetta).
I get Pokemon will sell 10m units, but I think a lot of the apathy towards the direct was the lack of that alternate ‘under the tree on Christmas morning’ game like a Zelda collection or a Donkey Kong. Perhaps we’d have been more excited if this Direct would have been in late December showing what was just around the corner.
Unless it’s Action Comics no1 or something similar, most magazine print doesn’t hold it’s value in a digital age. I very much doubt anyone in 20 years being that interested to see Super Mario screenshots and adverts for Toys R’ Us. Open it, see the corporate opinions of Nintendo employees about these games, and file it away to show a child how video games used to be and then roll it up and swat them with it when they dismiss you for being a granddad.
I've played and completed Octopath, Bravely Default 2, and Triangle Strategy on the Switch. Personally I think Square's style of these games has become a little formulaic, and they're releasing them a bit too thick and fast.
Not entirely sure the point of adding characters to an RPG that don’t tie into a story after you’ve finished it. For me the extra story will have to look exciting for me to buy the DLC.
Seems like a well put together, fun game worthy of the score… BUT… if you’ve already played the other two in the last 7 years I wonder if it covers too much old ground?
And that’s the challenge of rating a sequel if you do so encompassing it’s evolution on the previous games or if you do so in a vacuum?
I’m guessing worries of Tencent’s influence to Nickel and Dime the consumer (it’s in the name) is a moot point when Ubisoft is the company model they’re investing in. Also guessing with some of the recent accusations Ubisoft won’t be under pressure to sack anyone they don’t want to with this deal.
As a Wii U owner, I got to complete both very recently. With the way the world is at the moment I’m being a little more discerning about my gaming purchases so I can spend all my cash on sweets and hats instead.
The games I have bought this year: Arceus, Triangle Strategy, Kirby, and Xenoblade 3 have all been so good and kept me amused. At the moment I’ve only got my eye on Bayonetta 3 to round out the year. That may change.
Looking at previous years on the Switch, it seems to me there could be space for one more big first party game at Christmas. Realistically I don’t think Nintendo would log jam the holiday with two GameCube re-releases. It could be one or the other, or neither and something else. Also is releasing a Zelda collection a good move being so close to the likely March release of BOTW2?
I used to love Disgaea, but at this point I think I have Disgaea poisoning as there's been so much. I think you can play 10 Disgaea or Disgaea spinoff on the Switch alone.
I think they try to have the box a certain size so it catches the eye on a retail shelf. But Nintendo know people are aware of the Switch and are going to buy it, so that doesn’t matter so much.
Let’s say you can fit 300 Current Switch boxes on a pallet. If you reduce the size of the boxes by 1/3, you can get another 100 Boxes on that pallet. By doing so, you’ve reduced your shipping overheads, which means if the prices of the semiconductors go up, you can pay for some of it with the money you save on the shipping.
I wonder at this point what remains beyond the name? I can remember playing games as a kid that had Sunsoft’s logo come up, but I can’t actually remember what games they were. Perhaps the licensed games?
When Splatoon 1 came out it was the most original game to come along for years. 2 was more of the same with only the Octo expansion making it unique. This just seems more of the same without anything for me to sink my teeth into, so I’m skipping it. That leaves a maybe for Mario Rabbids 2, and a definite for Bayonetta 3 for me this year.
Not entirely sure why anyone would be excited that they’re going to be charged more later down the line for stuff we don’t know isn’t in the game at launch?
If you’re hoping to make any art- music, painting, sculpture, literature, dance, film, or even video games- you would hope it makes your audience feel something. I’ve played video games that have depressed me, I’ve played video games that have cheered me up. I even had one 7 hour session with Arkham City that made me want to jump out my car and fight a random gang of teenagers on the street that we’re all wearing Orange anoraks (I resisted the urge).
Because if this stuff didn’t feed our emotions, why would we bother?

Re: EA Says It Isn't Ending Physical Sales In Certain Countries, Following "Inaccurate" Reports
EA might as well stop physical game sales on the Switch seeing they just wheel out the same solitary game we refuse to buy every year.

Re: Nintendo's YouTube Channel Gets Renamed, Loses Verification Tick
I had to switch subscribing from NoE to NoA on YouTube after I was getting spammed with every announcement in 8 languages.

Re: Review: Bayonetta 3 - A Stunning Return For An Icon, And The Best Game In The Series
Sort of expected this score after the pure joy of the first 2. Curious to see if it’s included in the GOTY conversation across platforms.

Ah the Internet, where one persons perspective can become fact in seconds, and then disproven after a day and that person is demonised.

Weird how Nintendo used to backload years to September to November, but now it seems there’s more at the beginning of the year.
Re: Bayonetta's OG Voice Actor Asks Fans To "Boycott" Third Game After PlatinumGames Wage Fallout
I wonder if it was for ‘all the alternate Bayonetta’s’, or for ‘the original Bayonetta’ who apparently gets killed off early in the game?
To me it sounds like they lowballed her so she refused. Guessing the new actress is getting more than that.
Re: Soapbox: I Might Be Too Messy To Enjoy Disney Dreamlight Valley Properly
If you’ve ever accidentally got lost on holiday in Florida, and driven through Disney’s ‘planned community’ Celebration, USA, this isn’t a surprise.
Sort of the real life Stepford.
Re: Capcom Begins Mega Man's 35th Anniversary Celebrations With Logo Reveal
It's obviously more profitable to do these celebrations and remind people to buy the collections and licenced merch than make a new game.

Things end.
TV series, Film franchises, Book shared universes, Video games. At some point either the audience or the creator gets bored, and things need to stop. Re: Konami Is Bringing Suikoden I & II Back With HD Remasters On Switch Next Year
I'm a bit of a penny scrimper on digital games these days, waiting for discounts, but this I'll buy day one. Both games are absolute masterpieces.
Just have to prepare myself for Soniere prison again....

2023.

Re: Konami Teases New Game In Beloved Series For Tokyo Game Show
Seeing the Switch is a JRPG machine, it would make sense for a beloved long missed game like Suikoden to get a collection or in a miracle a new game.
So I’m guessing a Pachinko Frogger game.
