I’m in the small minority of NL readers that plays Fortnite daily, keeps up with the story and lore, attempts to max out every Battle Pass, and understands the complexities of the new game mechanics. I’ve been playing the game since March of 2020 and it’s the first game I’ve put over 1,000 hours into.
I absolutely love the added complexity. While I usually am bad at shooters, the added systems helped to get me acclimated to the mechanics, and the questlines gave me something to juggle alongside the core gameplay. Be those mechanics Chapter 2’s shakedowns or Chapter 4’s grindrails, I’ve been there for it for three years now. The changes keep things from getting stale.
I’m also a sucker for a good crossover, and boy howdy do Fortnite crossovers tend to be good. Faithful (mostly) adaptations of characters with a silly lore justification — yes PLEASE.
It’s also a great game to play alone or with buddies. Getting a solo victory is never as sweet as a group one, but Epic has managed to make both feel very satisfying.
Here’s to five more years to Fortnite on Switch! I’m excited to see where the game will go from here.
@Fizza While that would be hysterical, @Snatcher is correct — the current Island is even more of a mashup between different areas than previous islands. This jungle biome is probably from a reality where the Autobots had these temples, either that or the Autobot tech got fused with the temple when entering Reality Zero…hooray for convoluted lore!
Also, Dr. Slone looks noticeably younger here, at least in my opinion…not sure what to make of that from a story perspective, but it’s good to have her back regardless. With the IO gone, I’m not sure what role she’ll be playing.
This is your resident Fortnite lore expert signing off! See y’all when the new season drops 😄
Fortnite has been killing it with the Battle Pass crossovers in Chapter 4! Season 1 had Doom Slayer and Geralt, Season 2 has Eren Jaeger, and Season 3 is looking to have Optimus Prime...great picks all around.
I'm at the 20 hour mark! I probably would've played more if I also weren't playing other games and working on other personal projects, but 20 hours for a game that came out 10 days ago is nothing to sneeze at!
@Ryu_Niiyama I've been playing for over three years now and I've amassed so many characters both FN original and crossover. You've got the ones everyone knows about - your Marvels, your DCs, your anime characters, your big name gaming characters like Doom Slayer and Ryu - but my favorite crossovers are the more obscure / crazy ones. Characters like the stickman animation star Gildedguy, the goat from Goat simulator made anthropomorphic, turning the electronic musician Marshmello into a ninja called "Marshinobi" - the wide variety of characters is what makes it interesting, in my eyes.
I also love it when crossovers take elements of Fortnite character design and apply it to themselves. The Batman Zero outfit is the best possible example of this; it takes the asymmetrical battle stylings of early Fortnite design and fashions it into something Batman could believably wear.
Anyways, sorry for rambling. I'm just a really huge fan of this game LOL
@OctoAmbush LOL same! I went to go get cold resistant clothes, saw how expensive they were, and then “went to go get more rupees.” This turned into me forgetting to back and just exploring the map, completing the Water Temple in the process. Oops!
That’s incredible. This game feels so incredibly astounding, and the ways people “exploit” it like this are so fascinating. Absolutely brilliant and hilarious!
@sabreman64 amiibo, especially more recent ones (think 2018 onward), actually have a great deal of quality to them. The comparison to the earlier figures is astounding; more variety in materials, more tasteful bases to hold up complicated character designs, more dynamic posing, better painting on smaller details such as facial features, more complicated and detailed molds, etc. For anyone wanting an inexpensive statue that doesn’t take up a huge chunk of space, amiibo are a better choice now then they’ve ever been.
I do agree that Mega Yarn Yoshi is awesome, though, haha. And I do agree that amiibo unlocks should be more than throwaway cosmetics. I love what the Shovel Knight amiibo unlocked in its home game — a custom moveset builder with unique abilities! That option was never offered outside of amiibo functionality, and it made for a very unique experience.
I went to my GameStop’s midnight (read: 11 PM launch, lol) and it was super fun! We had a huge turnout for the launch itself, and there was an event during the buildup to launch with trivia, free pizza, and a raffle. Everyone was super nice and excited for the game, and I saw a handful of folks I hadn’t seen in a long while. It was a great time!
@Musharna Yeah that does kinda suck though from a business perspective I understand why they did it. Doesn’t make it a good decision LOL — no reason they couldn’t be edit styles — but it’s one that makes sense I suppose.
I’ve been playing this event and it’s SO GOOD. The new Star Wars weapons are really fun, especially when used in combination with the Attack on Titan weapons (which are still in the game, by the by; the ODM Gear into Lightsaber pipeline is real). The animations they cooked up for the weapons are also excellent, and a great deal of the new cosmetics are awesome. Darth Maul looks like the perfect mix of his live action and animated appearances!
My only complaints are with some of the missed opportunities in terms of cosmetics. Why include an Ashoka Clone Trooper but no Ashoka Tano herself? Why include Darth Maul but not an alternate style with his awesome robot legs? That sort of thing. Other than those nitpicks this event is shaping up to be great…this is where the fun begins, as they say!!
I made a preorder for the TP Link in-store at GameStop a while back (an employee friend tipped me off that they'd be available) and I'd totally buy the OoT Link right now if I hadn't just dropped a bunch on other stuff. Glad to see these figures returning for those who missed them!
I absolutely loved Labo and wish that they had done more with the idea, both in future implementation of existing sets and in new sets. Robot Kit to play ARMS would've been so fun... Not to mention that the VR Kit was my first ever VR experience and boy HOWDY do I love it. The Toy-Con Blaster feels so good to use.
...that being, said I'm glad it's over. I was around 15 (!!!) when Labo first dropped and was completely enamored by it, but now that I'm older and have a smaller living space (not to mention that my Switch OLED does not fit most Toy-Con), I have completely lost interest in using them again. This is coming from someone who owned every kit!
Not to mention they were dang expensive; if they wanted to recapture my attention for Labo (for whatever reason) they'd need to drop the price decently. I understand why the price was so high, but it's still a turn off.
Ultimately, it was fun while it lasted and it was a brilliant idea, but I think that ship has sailed for me. So long, Labo, and thanks for all the cardboard.
I won't be able to sit down and play this for a good long while - got finals coming up soon - but I have it preordered and I'm really excited to try these games for the first time!
Went by a store yesterday and can confirm — $5 each. Bought a second Metroid pack just for the heck of it.
I think the reason is that they just have so many of these guys that they couldn’t sell otherwise…every time I go in the store, they have an abundance of these figures, especially the Metroid ones.
EDIT: Just went in again today and they had two Metroid packs left; all the rest (Metroid and Zelda) were behind the desk, reserved for ship-from-store orders. It seems like the deal worked to finally get these figures off the shelves.
…may or may not have impulse bought those last two just because it was really funny. 😅
As a 20 year old with a pretty full 'stache and beard (this profile picture is fairly old LOL), living with his family in a room full of collectibles? I can easily believe that this Mario is in his mid 20's.
All the people getting uptight about this are completely missing the point. The crux of this article is not the idea itself but “because it sounded funny to us,” which is an awesome explanation. I love it when there’s no other reason for thinking up something than “it’d be funny.” It’s quite literally just a joke!
The "Peaches" song to me felt like a really good Teen Titans GO! gag, funny enough. The directors of the SMB film are producers/developers/writers/etc. for TTG!, and I grew up watching that show, so I instantly recognized that style of humor. I think Jack Black's performance of the song worked really well comedically; specifically, it was a really good nonsense gag that was treated as a story beat, which is something the best episodes of TTG! did well.
Would be hilarious if they actually submitted it for an Oscar. Like an industry practical joke.
@Mario500 It’s a crude saying that means they were giving Mario and Luigi a hard time for the fun of it; it’s a similar phrase to “busting your chops.”
I kinda expected "le epic references!!!!1!" to be the best part of the film lol, and all these folks are kinda validating that sentiment. I'm sure the references are good and will be well thought out, but like, c'mon - they're just references.
Hey the polls say 100% right now! Glad to see everyone agrees with me ;P
In seriousness, I’ve already bought an OLED and don’t want this one as a collectible. The controller looks nice though and I might grab it at some point.
This was one of the few games I decided to grab in my last 3DS shopping spree last year. It's a neat little piece of history and a shame that nobody can legally experience it going forward.
I’m not a huge Zelda fan but I loved BotW, so TotK being an iterative sequel of BotW is part of why I’m so excited for it. It’s more of the game I liked so much, but with new twists and turns.

Also if you want to go down that route, apparently Phisnom (FNAF+) and Nikson (TJOC) have both said their fair share of not-so-nice things. Only Fanverse dev not in some form of controversy (to my knowledge, at least) is Emil Macko (FNAC).

Re: WarioWare: Move It! Wiggles Its Way Onto Switch In November
That Wario voice sounds nothing like Martinet; is there any confirmation of his VO?
(I also noticed that Mario seems to have been replaced in SMBW; the “Wowie-Zowie” was a dead giveaway)

Unrelated but the character in the article's thumbnail looks so much like those blue smileys that made the rounds a while back, haha

14/17, not bad! For the ones I didn’t know, I really just tried to guess based on what era the art style felt like it was from.
