Oh sweet! I always enjoy Toby Fox’s catchy melodies so it’s good to hear that one of his recurring leitmotifs, what Toby does best in my opinion, is in the game.
@Yosher I think you’re misunderstanding a bit — Hisuian Voltorb is the only Hisuian Pokémon in GO currently, and now that all PLA Pokémon can be sent to HOME with PLA, they’ve enabled transferring of Hisuian Voltorb from Pokémon GO to Pokémon HOME (which used to be disabled).
All Hisuian Pokémon can be sent from Arceus to HOME; this is just allowing that same accessibility to the weird fringe case that is Hisuian Voltorbs in Pokémon GO. Still confusing I know, but I hope that clears things up a bit.
I’m surprised that it took them this long to think of this, but I’m also dumbfounded by how simply brilliant the idea is. What a cool gimmick. If I was a kid and I got a Ditto card, I’d lose my mind.
@westman98 As much as it sucks the reason no lightsabers are pickaxes is because they like to bring them in-game as weapons every now and then. They're fun to use, but it means we'll never get lightsaber pickaxes.
I really like the loading screen the bundle comes with (they teased a future lore-important skin in it for anyone who cares) but I don't want the skin. I think I'd get it if it were more stylized like the Clone Wars series. Aw man, I hope later they have cell-shaded Clone Wars/Rebels skins, that would be sick.
This is cool for those who want it in the box but yall should really unbox this one. The detailing is ridiculously insane on Min Min, and seeing it firsthand is very cool. For the only ARMS amiibo that will probably ever exist, they pretty much knocked it out of the park.
Biggest launch regret was not only preordering Super Bomberman R but also playing it before I played the other games I got on launch (BOTW and Shovel Knight).
I'll buy it for nostalgia's sake but I'll probably wait for the retail, non-LRG physical edition. I grew up with this game (it came out when I was a kid) and I love the idea of Starkiller so this game being rereleased is cool in my eyes and I'd like to (eventually) support that.
Literally on stream this morning I off-handedly wondered why the Prowler was in the Battle Pass instead of Moon Knight. I guess I have my answer now LOL. (my theory for Prowler is just that they just wanted an excuse to keep Daily Bugle on the map and Prowler makes for a sick skin design)
@PBandSmelly Also worth noting that any crossover characters that go "out of character" are technically covered by the game's lore; their memories are wiped and/or it may be an alternate "snapshot" version of them created by the Loop. So if someone does complain about Moon Knight crankin' 90's with Aquaman and Naruto being out of character, there's a nerdy excuse to justify it
As others have said I’ll just wait for the THQ retail version lol. If things go the same way that the other Star Wars games went, then this’ll be paired with another game on GameStop shelves for $30 USD in some months.
For US folks, I’d recommend Lukie Games to get used 3DS games (and other retro stuff lol). They usually have decently fair prices and everything I’ve ordered from them works. I got Fire Emblem Awakening for around $40 and FE Fates Conquest for around $36 from them and they were both in great condition.
Now with Ubisoft joining Fortnite when can we see Rayman 🙂 I’m only half joking haha. I also think some Brawlhalla characters would make neat Fortnite skins.
Neat little reference; glad it was able to get through. I also like it because it's easy to ignore for those who don't get it but super meaningful for those who do, not the focal point of some giant joke like most references nowadays. Good stuff.
@Ardisan Thankfully it looks like the elemental/stage factors are being carried over (the trailer showed Zetterburn’s fire and Wrastor’s aerial strong moves/gale), and the FAQ on Rivals 2 showed a few new mechanics (such as special move options for get-ups and pummels). So the game is still going to be unique, just not in the way I’d personally like it to be LOL
I have no doubt it’ll be fantastic, but I’ll probably just keep playing the first game more due to the core mechanics being more my style.
I adore Rivals 1, one of my favorite games of all time. This game looks fantastic as well but I’m worried the addition of grabs, shields, and ledges is going to remove part of the offense-first playstyle that made me fall in love with Rivals in the first place. Hopefully Aether Studios can prove me wrong.
What people are forgetting is that getting games like Ice Hockey is very funny.
Is it good for business? No. Will I ever play it? No. Is it frustrating that they add games so slow and those games end up being Ice Hockey for NES? Yes.
Will I laugh every time they add some random scrimblo bimblo (as the kids say) game no one’s ever heard of? Yes. Yes I will.
Reminds me of how the Homestar Runner guys added the years-awaited final level of their Stinkoman game literally less than a month before Adobe Flash officially died, haha; props to this guy and I hope these games are at least a moderate success for him.
I used to be a big preorder guy in high school because that allowed me to save up money over a period of time and continuously pay it off at GameStop; I still do that occasionally. I don't really preorder stuff anymore, only whenever it's something I really want (Miitopia for Switch) or something that I think might potentially be hard to find (the Zelda Game & Watch LOL).
Only preorders I've ever regretted were Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer (fun game, just wish my younger self had the foresight to know it wasn't worth $40) and Super Bomberman R (hype for the Switch's launch made me want another game to go with Zelda and then I realized I actually hate Bomberman games haha).
I love Fortnite and I suck at building so the "no building" stuff has been working out for me.
However I hope that no matter what modes get added/removed, I hope they keep the sprinting and mantling abilities they added. Being able to climb walls and make goofily animated long jumps is too fun, and it's very satisfying to finish out a sprint with a slide (which was also a great mechanic addition).
...they also need to bring back shaking people down, lol.
What’s the point of these “folders” since they don’t even appear on the main menu like with previous systems? I tried making groups and I found myself missing games and having to go back and add them; I just gave up after a while because it wasn’t worth it.
More power to you if you enjoy this implementation, but I think it’s a rather dissatisfying way of putting in folders. I won’t be using them.
@DrRichie Don’t get me wrong I agree — it is a silly comparison from that perspective. However it’s not as simple, in my opinion, as shooter v fighter — I think it’s more of the perspective of “New colorful IP with a twist on a well known genre that has a competitive edge + deeper worldbuilding/lore”.
I love ARMS more than most and I want the best for it/more of it (ARMS is one of my favorite games of all time) but I just think Nintendo views ARMS as a less successful Splatoon repeat because of those stark similarities (hence the comics getting cancelled and the lack of further support of the game itself).
I desperately want more ARMS stuff and I don’t care what form it comes in, but I doubt Nintendo will do anything with the franchise any time soon given that it didn’t repeat Splatoon’s “new-IP-with-genre-twist” breakout success.
One of my favorite things about this site is reading an article and halfway through it thinking "Was this a Kate Gray article?" and scrolling up to find out it is. Your distinct and fresh writing style is always a pleasure, Kate!
Of course, as to be expected with good ‘ol weird and arbitrary Nintendo, you can’t mix and match elements. I can’t use SMO elements with ACNH elements to make my own icon. Which sucks. Unless they add elements for a game I’m just crazy about I don’t see myself using this.
I was wondering why it felt like the reveal had a ton less pomp and circumstance than a gen reveal usually does. It sorta felt like it came with a whimper instead of a bang, especially for the reveal of an open world Pokémon game.
Kinda shocked the comments on the Nintendo news site of all places has such a negative-to-indifferent opinion of the Miis, haha. I think they're cool characters and Miitopia's Switch port proved that they can be uniquely modernized in a meaningful way. They may be "outdated" but they're dated in the same way that Mario is, I think - they just need to reinvent themselves to stay relevant, and I think the Switch Sports avatars are a step in the wrong direction on that front.
Edit: I should mention that I'm not against the avatars, they are growing on me a bit; my main point is that they don't have the same quirky charm that the Miis do, and their designs are such a far cry from Miis that it's jarring.
I forgot about the Denpa Men!! I played all three games in that trilogy growing up and it makes me so, so sad that people won't be able to experience how fun and off-kilter they are.
Eh, I like the old system of (in terms of physical My Nintendo rewards) redeeming points for codes to use in the store. That way I could just sit on the codes 'til I was able to use them all while also ensuring that I get the reward I want.
As I mentioned in a previous comment on another article, this isn’t taking into account the DSiWare games that will also become permanently inaccessible thanks to both the DSi store and the 3DS eShop closing. (it probably wouldn’t change the number much but still)
