Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - Kirby's Pinball Land

MH4

I love this game so much. When I took a STEM class in high school we made cardboard pinball machines, and I themed mine around Kirby’s Pinball Land — to the point where I had my GBA running the actual game for “ambiance” LOL!! This game holds a special place in my heart, so I went with the western box art for nostalgia’s sake.

Re: Poll: What's Your Switch Game Of The Year Of 2024 So Far?

TTYD is my clear favorite so far. Such a charming, well made game.

Someone else (shockingly) mentioned FNAF Into the Pit as looking promising, which I agree with!! It’s awesome that a FNAF game is finally getting a simultaneous release across all platforms, especially one that looks as good as ItP.

Re: Surprise! Shovel Knight's Original Adventure Is Getting The Deluxe Treatment

@Eel Only Nintendo consoles since Custom Knight was an amiibo exclusive feature — so 3DS, Wii U, and Switch all currently have Custom Knight available via amiibo.

I grew up playing Shovel Knight on 3DS in junior high and on Switch in high school, so seeing these features — especially the 3DS-centric ones — return is so fun and nostalgic for me.

Re: Round Up: Every Game From Wholesome Direct 2024 Coming To Switch

@Wordbonder That’s a good point! I think Stardew in particular set a new benchmark for it because a lot of games seem to be (or explicitly state to be) inspired by it specifically.

I don’t think the genre is bad (not my cup of tea but there seems to be a lot of great games there), but it’s becoming oversaturated IMO with Stardew imitators. The genre has always been around as you say, but I’d argue Stardew DID make it “trendy” to the point of becoming stereotype.

The cynical part of me hates games that are actively trying to be “cozy.” How many more UwU soft pastel indie farming management slice of life RPG self-reflective mental health [insert more buzzwords here] games do we need the market flooded with?

I’m sure these games will be fine and that the developers are not maliciously chasing this trend, but it’s such an annoying trend to me. I miss when a game being “wholesome” wasn’t a marketing angle, but was just the natural byproduct of a developer’s vision.

Re: Nintendo Apparently Wanted Samus Aran's Fortnite Skin To Be A Switch Exclusive

I love Fortnite, I love Nintendo, I wish I lived in the world in which this collaboration happened - especially in Fortnite's heyday and not in the current more "corporate" era (yes, more corporate than before).

Donald Mustard was truly the creative soul behind Fortnite; that much is true given the other interview snippets that have come out. I miss his direction, his story, and his passion for the massive crossover toybox he created for himself to play in.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Mario vs. Donkey Kong

It kinda sounds like the perfect game for me — easy to pick up and play between business without thinking about it too hard, combined with the nostalgia factor (though I never did play the original game, I loved the later Mini Mario-focused titles). Looking forward to this one for those reasons!

Re: Fortnite's Dev Really Wants A Crossover With Nintendo But Hasn't Had Any Luck

MH4

As someone in Fortnite’s playerbase, I would lose my mind over this. Positively, mind you. The crossover aspect is one of the most fun parts of the game, so seeing how Epic implements Nintendo elements into the game would be a great opportunity for Nintendo to “surprise and delight,” as they love to do, in an unconventional (for Nintendo) way.

The new modes they’ve been adding provide some great opportunities for this IMO. LEGO Fortnite could get some LEGO Animal Crossing or LEGO Mario content, Rocket Racing could let you drive the Blue Falcon, Fortnite Festival could feature jam tracks of iconic Nintendo music…the potential goes far beyond just character skins and I believe that Nintendo’s IP would add a lot of value to the Fortnite package.

Re: Fortnite Teases LEGO, Rocket Racing And Festival Games, Launching Next Week

MH4

I have a few thoughts on this.

I think Epic is going about this in the best way they possibly could have. The brand synergy they're establishing is impressive (new car parts unlocked in Fortnite are usable in Battle Royale, Rocket Racing, and vanilla Rocket League; the majority of Fortnite outfits already owned by users will have LEGO variants; etc.), the idea of a free-to-play LEGO game integrated into a game I already play is appealing, and the new additions to Battle Royale this season - while overwhelming when compared to the simplicity of Fortnite OG - have been a very fun change. I also think that getting Psyonix on Rocket Racing and Harmonix on FN Festival is promising.

However, one has to wonder how necessary this all is. This feels like Epic's big push to make their idea of the "metaverse" a reality (for example, the idea of cosmetics transferring over from game to game, context to context, reminds me a lot of the elevator pitch for NFTs), but couldn't that have been restricted to the confines of Battle Royale for a much more interesting experience (after all, limitations breed creativity)?

Also, I hope they have more developers working on this. Didn't Epic just have some layoffs? That's worrying from a bugs / game quality perspective and a developer crunch perspective.

Another change I've noticed is that Epic's social media teams for Fortnite accounts have gotten a lot less formal and a lot more transparent in the past few days. That feels like a good change overall.

I suppose all I can do now is watch and wait to see if this idea is as revolutionary as Epic wants it to be. Epic actively supporting four live service titles all under the banner of Fortnite (technically five, rest in peace Save the World) will either be the death of Fortnite or its new beginning - and in some ways, it can be argued that it is both simultaneously.

Re: Geoff Keighley And The Game Awards Are Now In Fortnite

MH4

A shame this isn't a more "proper" or "official" crossover - just a Fortnite creative map that TGA seemingly commissioned a Fortnite creative map dev team to create for them, custom Geoff model and all.

Which is still kinda neat, I suppose, but any 'ol brand could do that. Getting to play as Geoff as a proper skin, collabing with Epic more directly, would've been much more appealing. Like that Among Us tie-in they did a few years back.
