Re: Mini Review: Alien Hominid Invasion - An Explosive, Superior Sequel

MH4

@GOmar Although I did address the difference in opinion (and the author responded to this), my main point was regarding the wording “Newgrounds art style,” which I believe to be objectively incorrect (which the author has also responded to, explaining the understandable reasoning behind the wording).

I understand not everyone will like everything, but since the author was sharing their opinion, I figured I’d share mine too

Re: Mini Review: Alien Hominid Invasion - An Explosive, Superior Sequel

@Tom-Massey I’ll give you that liking the style itself is an opinion thing and we can agree to disagree, but I still think “Newgrounds style” is a bit too blanket. I do understand and acknowledge the limitations of a mini-review, but surely there must have been a better wording that avoids the (in my opinion) negligent overgeneralization.

Ah well though, thank you for explaining your perspective. I’m very passionate about NG so I gotta defend it when the opportunity arises lol; sorry if I came across as rude in my original comment.

Re: Mini Review: Alien Hominid Invasion - An Explosive, Superior Sequel

"but the Newgrounds art style...just turned us off."

Sorry, but there is no "Newgrounds art style." NG is, as their slogan says, everything by everyone, and there is a wide breadth of styles available on the site.

Additionally, while it admittedly is a bit crude by today's standards, I think that the original game's art still holds up. It's still snappily animated, has a clearly defined style, and has a charming look that does bring to mind a bygone era of the internet where Flash dominated. Bringing that up as a negative is bizarre to me.

I agree that the AH Invasion's art style looks objectively better, but dismissing the charm of the original visuals as just the "Newgrounds art style" immediately turned me off from reading the rest of the review. I think that's a gross oversimplification of both what Newgrounds truly represents and of the many, many artists who still post to NG every single day.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Still Making Them, So What amiibo Do You Still Want To See?

MH4

I don’t care particularly what characters should be made, but I do think they should keep doing what they’re doing — making two or three figurines for big new releases and/or popular characters. amiibo have become very high quality, but as we all know that means they’re more expensive. I’m appreciative, in that case, that long gone are the days of massive drops lol.

I guess in terms of characters, I’d love to see them try the obvious Pokémon amiibo cards. Make the TCG compatible, even. Would be a goldmine for everyone involved, I think.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 23rd)

MH4

Haven't really been gaming as much recently. Still love gaming, but most of my game time is relegated to short impromptu bursts (games like Picross, Annalynn, and Fortnite) or dedicated time slots to play games with my friends (we played Ultimate Chicken Horse the other day and it was a blast). College life, y'know!

However, I am making plans with my girlfriend to play Danganronpa with her. She loves it but I've never played it, so it being on sale for $5 recently was a great opportunity haha.

Everyone have a great weekend!

Re: Super Mario Bros. Wonder Had No Deadline During Its Prototype Phase

MH4

Hopefully this information becomes widespread, and the game is successful enough to encourage other dev teams towards more lax development structures (AND not announcing games until they’re ready…). A few impatient gamers does not warrant crunching!

Makes me very happy when games are delayed / not given strict timelines so the devs can reach their full potential (as a Friday Night Funkin’ fan who has been waiting for the next update for over a year and a half now — let them cook LOL). So again, I hope this game is proof that less stress makes for a better game overall.

Re: Denuvo's 'Switch Emulator Protection' Is Now Available Via Nintendo's Official Dev Portal

I feel like a few folks are missing the narrative of the discussion here - this isn't an argument whether piracy is good or bad, this is folks worried that a company infamous for negatively affecting performance of games is going to slow down an already infamously low-powered piece of hardware. Perfectly reasonable worry, I'd argue.

Also good that the DRM services are opt-in, meaning that not all games will include it. (Off-topic but the "DRM come true" tagline was genius; kudos to the author!)

Also while I'm here - remember to support DRM free, open source, donationware, etc. projects whenever and wherever you can

Re: Unlike Metroid Prime, Quake II's Original Dev Team Is Credited On The Switch Remaster

MH4

Why are some people defending the act of not crediting someone for their work? If someone made a remaster of one of my songs, I'd absolutely want credit for writing the original composition. If someone used one of my songs in a YouTube video, I'd want them to link back to the original song.

Credit is just always a good idea in general. Credit your artists, your musicians, your programmers, your inspirations...giving proper credit shows that you respect the people who work alongside you and who inspire you, and in turn it makes you respectable.

Crediting someone isn't hard and it only makes you look good, so seeing so many naysayers in the comments is genuinely disheartening. I'm presuming most of y'all complaining aren't creatives, because if you were, you'd understand that crediting folks is not a suggestion - it's a must.

Additionally, from the headline alone I thought this was a dead-horse-beating article, but after reading I realized that it was about someone who went uncredited in MPR who did get credited in Quake 2's remaster. I'd say that's a fairly relevant reason to bring it back up again, but the headline's wording was pretty darn clickbaity. Guess it worked lol

Re: SpongeBob's Plankton Joins The Battle In Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2

MH4

LOL that's definitely one way to improve the game - giving every character Cloud's Limit Gauge.

This game looks already very polished and fun, especially compared to how the original game launched, but I will reiterate what I've said in previous articles - I'll be waiting for the Gold Version that includes all of the inevitable DLC content.

Re: Poll: Have You Ordered Physical Switch Games That Came With The Cart Missing?

MH4

OH MY WORD THIS HAPPENED TO ME LAST WEEK. I bought Xenoblade 3 (last copy) at Walmart since it was $45, and when I got home I opened the case to an empty cartridge. After battling Walmart for like an hour I got my money back, but it was very confusing and stressful. Some of the employees even said that this was happening with other Switch games as well. Can't help but wonder how widespread of an issue this is.

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Store Your Games Collection?

MH4

For portable systems like Switch or 3DS, I have a dedicated case for those games. For home consoles I have storage bins that are easily accessible, since I don’t play those all the time.

For Wii and GameCube specifically though, I bring those games and a Wii console with me to occasionally record gameplay videos with my best friend, so that junk stays in the “Wii Suitcase” 😂

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 29th)

MH4

Earlier this week one of my buddies had me play Pikmin 1 for the first time and it was enough to have me intrigued. We're eventually going to play all 4 games together

As for the weekend, probably just more Fortnite missions before getting back to the projects I've been working on. Maybe a little Mario Kart 8 Deluxe if I'm feeling spicy.

Everyone have a great weekend!
