Re: Yooka-Replaylee Art Team Highlight Laylee's New Fluffiness In Remaster

John_Deacon

They took a second chance with the Impossible Lair and they nailed it! Just love that game!
Although they're very different games, I'm sure they have seen and heard a lot about Yooka Laylee for the past 7 years and I hope they'll use this knowledge to fix some its flaws to make it more accessible, aka playable now
I really like the way characters look in the screenshots!

@Uncle_Franklin If sales numbers are not available, then it didn't break the million copy threshold. But as this is a relatively "less expensive" kind of game to make, lower numbers don't necessarily mean a bad result, since production cost is lower too. I just can't imagine how much it takes to make a new FZero or Star Fox today with all models designed from scratch

That's basically what I was expecting from this game. Just like the two previous games, which is very good! Although the Japanese voice work is all I'm gonna use, I can't see why there is not an option to switch it to English. At least it is a way for native English speakers to have a little taste of what Portuguese, Spanish, Dutch, German, etc, speakers feel when dubbing in their native language is not available in a game. Anyway, English dubbing just doesn't work for me when it comes to visual novels, but the lack of options in a game that costs this much is just not cool

Re: Video: Marvel vs. Capcom: Fighting Collection 'Marvel Super Heroes' Trailer

John_Deacon

I remember playing it for the first time in 1997, during my first year of high school. Sometimes skipped classes to go to the arcade. My jaw dropped when I saw the awesome animation and the size of some sprites. For years, in the 2000s and even in the early 2010s, Marvel Super Heroes and Street Fighter Zero 2 were the two reasons why I got my old JP Saturn out of the box from time to time

For me, this collection is worth it for MSH and X-men CotA alone! I'm sure it's gonna be an incredible package!

Re: 36 Longest Switch Games Worth Playing To The End

John_Deacon

I decided to play Tears of the Kingdom slowly and enjoy the ride. The result was that when I decided it was time to face Ganondorf, I had a decent number of hearts, reasonable armor sets and still a great deal of things to discover, but my percentage was what really shocked me: around 50%. And by that time I had played it for around 200 hours. And what a joy!

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Ganondorf Figma Scores 2025 Release, Pre-Orders Now Live

John_Deacon

Such a beautiful piece. If you decide to invest that money in it, I doubt you'll regret it!

By the way, I beat Ganondorf again in TotK and once more I had a really hard time getting flurry rushes to work during the 2nd half of Ganondorf's phase two. It works fine and easy in phase one, but not it the 2nd part of phase two, so I spend a helluva time shooting bombs at him. Are FR really hard to work in that part or is it just me?

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (20th July)

John_Deacon

My main game this week has been Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. Returned to it after some time. Exploring the underworld, looking for lightroots and collecting poes to get two sets of armors (Dark and of the Depths). After doing it, I'm going into the final main quest.

I ended up giving in and buying NES World Championship. It's kind of barebones if you don't care about online play, which is my case, but having started my gaming life in the late NES era, I can say it really appeals to me. It's a really good game to play in short bursts and little by little achieve S ratings. And I guess I'm the kind of audience who'll enjoy it. Maybe younger gamers will be put off

Puzzle platformer

  • Mario vs Donkey Kong - keep playing the plus stages in short bursts after beating the main 8 worlds.

Visual novels
Still playing Murder by Numbers, alternating it with Famicom Detective Club - The Missing Heir. Both incredible games!

Platformers (all of them in short bursts)

  • Save Me Mr Tako
  • Super Princess Peach (DS)
  • Densetsu no Starfy (GBA)

Re: Review: Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition (Switch) - Speed-Focused And Slight, But Addictive

John_Deacon

"here there's actually much less in terms of variety with regards to the objectives and ways in which challenges are meted out."

That's really negative in my opinion. If there was a game that did all this one does and much more, what's the point here? It's disappointing to say the least. I'm really sure I'm gonna have fun playing it, but I'm not gonna get it day one. There's a feeling they should have done more to offer some variety at least

  • Save Me Mr Tako - playing it in short bursts
  • Mario vs Donkey Kong - playing the plus stages now after beating the main 8 worlds. I never imagined this game had so much content to offer!
  • Streets of Rage 4 - I'm at the final stage now, playing Blaze, and it always takes me some attempts to beat it (normal mode). It's a great challenge every time.
  • Murder by Numbers - a really nice visual novel. The writing is great! Full of references and jokes
  • Famicom Detective Club - The Missing Heir - the story has really captured me and gets better every time
  • Super Princess Peach (DS) - one of my favorite platformers ever. Such a light game to play with some interesting power ups and excellent stage design. It certainly deserves more love and presence in lists containing the best games for the DS
  • Densetsu no Starfy - started playing it yesterday and it's been so fun so far

Since I'm on vacation, I'm considering getting back to Tears of the Kingdom, too

Re: Switch Is Now Nintendo's Longest-Serving Flagship Home Console

John_Deacon

I thank the universe for being able to enjoy this moment in gaming history. As a Nintendo gamer since the late NES/early SNES days, there has never been a better time than now to enjoy games day one, to be able to buy less popular games that wouldn't be available easily at stores at other times. Having both new releases and a huge retro library in a console that's both a handheld and a TV console is a blessing

Re: Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Was Nintendo's "Best-Selling" Switch Game In May 2024 (US)

John_Deacon

Without any digital sales includes, TTYD might as well be the best selling game of May all systems considered, but we'll never have those numbers to know it for sure

As for hardware sales numbers, I don't think it's expected to remain high 7 years into the system's life. I know there are a lot of aspects to be considered, but as much as the Switch can be considered old, all system sales dropped, so...
