I'm shocked. And there's no denying it's a good surprise. One of the reasons Nintendo redesigned it from square one could have been piracy and the fact that it was so easy so hack/mod/unlock the S1. Now the bucaneers hoisting the jolly roger will also have to start their work from square one.
I'm curious to know what games will not be compatible with the S2
@Koda1000 That's what happens to Mario Kart 8 and Animal Crossing DLCs, which are available through a NSO Expansion pack subscription: when your subscription expires, you automatically lose access to the DLC content
So, if you thought Nintendo had learned a lesson from past situations, you're wrong just like me. They'll never learn. Of course I'm no expert, but I can only here people close to me saying "Sorry, that kind of price is not for me". Maybe one day in the future. That's the same for me: I'll get the console one day in the future, no idea when. It doesn't make sense to buy the system day one and not be able to afford the games you want to play
I feel you! Unfortunately I'll be in the middle of a morning full of work, probably with a full bladder. But of course I'll have some screen with the direct on
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is the first name that comes to my mind, but that's not the case of mere lack of power. Frame rates are bad but they're not the sole cause of the disastrous big picture
Apart from that, many games that struggle in terms of fps could benefit from more power. We've been playing great games at 30fps since Switch was launched. If they could run at 60fps, it'd be a better experience. I'm not the type of player who cares about high fps, but stable rates are essential for a good experience, whether they're 30, 60 or whatever.
But I'm not paying one extra buck for any enhanced editions of games I've already paid for
I don't like it. It's one more thing they're taking away from us. Although I understand it from a business perspective, once again they are imposing on us a way to play the games we've paid for within our homes.
I've had multiple Switches at home so that my ex-wife and I could play games simultaneously. We played our whole campaings of Pokemon Arceus independently sitting next to each other on two Switches. All we had to do was turn off the internet connection on the seconday console. If the online check becomes mandatory now, that will become impossible. Or worse, the lending/borrowing system will automatically enable or prevent you from booting a game since it will only be authorized on one console at a time
Considering the genre they focus on, I'm not sure what "selling well" means from their point of view. Maybe the number they're expecting is not so high and the game is a success. I hope it is
I don't know how much of the games they collaborated in was developed by them, but they are solid games. At least, I enjoy them
Well, surprise us, Nintendo! There are tons of players still interested in new games for Switch 1. And as S1 games will be playable on Switch 2, a Direct would be warmly welcome
As much as I love 3d platforming and exploration, The Impossible Lair is much more my cup of tea. I absolutely love it! Based on the hints they're giving us, this is gonna be on S2, so I'll take things really slowly about this one
Waiting for April 2nd has been hard enough. I just don't need a fake release date to worry about. I'll concentrate my anxiety on the 2nd. Reeeeeally looking forward to it
A question from someone who knows pretty much nothing about coding, game performance, etc: if this game runs on Switch 2 (no tweaks, the same software running on a new, more powerful system), is it gonna run automatically better? Or is additional coding required for improved performance on S2?
@MSaturn And you're not alone man. Most people's budgets are tighter than they've been in a long time. $400, which is the least the so-called experts are predicting, is already significant for most
Wonderful! I'll easily play this one for over 100 hours, like I did with other Picross games (especially the licensed ones) on Switch. That's great news!
Love the concept, the graphics, the metroidvanian approach and the revival of another classic, but I hate the adverb (brutally). I hope it's "feasible"
My older cousin rented the Terminator 2 VHS and borrowed his friend's VCR to copy the movie. It was in December 1992. I can't say how many times we watched T2 in December/January that summer! Love that movie up to this day
@BananaMetallurgica I'm not sure if you're referring to all the tracks on the app or all the tracks of a game. In the case of all the tracks of a specific game, it took me some time to learn that you have to click the name of the game, them scroll down a little and then click "all tracks". Otherwise, the app keeps sending you from incomplete playlist to incomplete playlist
@LadyCharlie People have different takes. I have friends who have a Switch Online subscription because they enjoy playing the retro library on the Switch. I guess they're not the only ones
My only focus Pokemon-wise is ZA Legends. I just love Arceus and I really hope this one is as good as Arceus. What worries me is the ridiculous performance we saw in SV, which was not clear until near release. This aspect was a major turn off for me and I can't stand the game for this reason, although I recognize it would have been a superb Pokemon game if performance had been decent. Let's wait and hope
It must have been really "weird" to receive that kind of criticism after delivering a great game and totally living up to the expectations posed by the success of Kingdom Battle. I don't know what Ubisoft was expecting, to be honest
Kingdom battles sells 2 million copies.
Ubisoft likes this number and gives the green light to a second game.
Sparks of Hope reviews very well and ends up selling 3 million.
Ubisoft gets disappointed by this figure and criticizes it publicly.
Go figure!
Both are great games, and if Ubisoft frowns on them, it tells us more about Ubisoft than about the games
This game makes Mario Kart seem like a slow methodical racer.
Hmmm... I hope they fix this is order to make it "playable". I like chaotic games, but when it comes to racing games, there should be a limit to the chaos. MK8D delivers the perfect balance
That's awesome news! Variety is everything a beat them up needs to have an extended life. If you add these additions to the great gameplay available at launch, that's some serious improvement. And all of that around two months after launch. Excellent!
After no more Nintendo Selects, now no more these discounts/incentives. For me, at least, it directly means buying fewer games around launch. Waiting for sales (both physical and digital) will be the way to go
To think that we had go through the mid-to-late-90s graphics and cover artworks.... I understand the importance of the birth of 3d graphics back then, after all I lived that time, enjoyed the games... but looking back, games feel cranky and ugly, cover arts look odd. But that's the price you have to pay if you wanna develop technology and improve knowledge. That being said, although there's some nostalgia in the the US cover art, it's incredibly dull. The JP one shows the characters and that adds more life to it
DKC Tropical Freeze - still advancing (slowly) towards 100%
Castlevania - Order of Ecclesia - after beating the GBA trilogy and the first two DS games, I'm starting Ecclesia. I've always consider this one a difficult game. Let's see how things go this time.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - playing 150cc aiming at three-star trophies for all cups. No wonder this game is still selling like hot cakes. There's endless content and there are all levels of challenge for all players.
Just a confession here: I clicked this article just to see where Battle League was on this list and it's one more disappointment in addition to the money I paid for it and the (little) time I could stand it. A full-priced "AAA" Nintendo game is supposed to offer much more than this shallow piece. 2 years and a half after its release, I still feel it's been a complete rip-off

No, they're not. Your text captured my feeling with perfect precision!!!
