@RupeeClock I was initially wondering if I was being cynical in thinking this, that the real reason what they put forward was so off the wall was because they never intended it to go through in the first place... but now they get to make concessions and go back to what they wanted from the start... but from what I've heard about Unitys CEO these past few days I'm thinking it's not cynicism at all...
Yeah I think people will think twice about supporting Unity now. At the very least I'd imagine indie devs won't want to spend years making a game in an engine beholden to the (clearly shaky and unpredictable) whims of the company who owns it.
I thought it was a strong direct overall, the best one I've seen in recent memory for sure.
The Princess Peach game looks fun, there's a remaster of Another Code coming along with a remaster of TTYD. Both of them look really exciting. There were some other interesting games too.
I don't really care about the F-Zero game but it seems like it'll be fun for people who love that series.
Gee Mario RPGs getting all the love right now. I had been thinking about replaying the first two Paper Mario games but maybe I'll pick this up instead.
Pretty strong direct overall, strongest in a long time.
I've always thought of it as primarily a video game company. I'm definitely not unaware of all the other things going on but it's still always felt like a video game company at its core.
I think I like the Japan one slightly more overall. The EU one is also very nice but I feel like the moon overwhelms the cover somewhat, it feels hard to look at the characters because the moon demands your attention.
I think it's possible that we might get a gen 5 remake made by Ilco....(they have to be working on something right?)
I feel like a legends style game might be kept for the Pokemon direct in February of next year.
As for the dlc, I think there's no way that we won't have a concrete release date for The Teal Mask after tomorrow. Aside from a congo line of mobile tiles and Detective Pikachu coverage that's the thing I feel most confident in.
I might try out the demo and see if it hooks me. Tbh I never finished the first game so I'm not sure if I have much of an appetite for this second game.
I'd probably pick Partitio based on artwork and description.
Also, it's funny how you remember how games looked because when they said featuring high resolution graphics I was kind of like "but it doesn't look any different..."
Then I went back to look at a video of the original game.....I don't remember the visuals looking that jaggy. XD
I'm not sure if I've ever bought a HD remaster of a game I've already played before (don't really see the point) but this could seriously get me to finally do it.
I never finished Three Houses so probably not. That this game has less focus on the characters and story doesn't make me have high hopes that I'd finish this one either.
Besides I haven't picked up Xenoblade 3 yet either, if I picked up a switch game right now it would be more likely that.
I've been having a lot of fun playing the game despite the issues. (which personally haven't been affecting me too badly) I'd give it an 8/10, it would be a 9 if not for all the technical issues though. In a lot of ways I feel like this is a Pokemon game people have been asking for, it's just a shame it has so many issues that are hiding that.
Would bump it up another .5 if character customization wasn't limited to the school uniform and if there was more to do in towns/cities. The game is fun but there really is next to nothing to do in cities aside from head to the gym.
@RupeeClock I don't see why that would be the case, each pokemon already has a unique sprite as part of the team menu. It would be a waste not to use them for the mini map as well.
@Jeronan Maybe it's changed since the last time, but here in Ireland I once asked a Gamestop clerk for a code for a Pokemon promotion they were supposed to be doing and they looked at me like I had two heads.
I guess I'll add my own top 8, I've been playing since the first gen but tbh I don't look back super fondly on many Kanto Pokemon outside of a handful of them. (like Gengar, Starmie, Lapras etc) I think also because there's 151 of them there's just a lot of them I don't have much of an opinion on which kind of drags the dex down a fair bit. It also took me a long time to warm up to Sinnohs Pokemon too.
I haven't played much Metroid, I think Fusion might have been the first one I tried. (whichever was the one they gave away on the 3DS Ambassador program) Although I didn't play it for very long.
My first introduction to Metroid was probably when I played Smsah Bros Melee, although I'm sure I had at least heard of the series before then.
I think Samus Aran is a super cool character (and I think she really stands out in Nintendos lineup) however the Metroid games aren't really my thing.
I'll probably wait for a sale. I bought Cybersleuth recently for about €8 on Humble so I'd guess this game will probably get a good discount eventually.
Persona 5 Royal, Blanc and the Mega Man Battle Network Collection stood out for me the most.
Overall I thought the direct was pretty good. Honestly I'd probably have had a more neutral opinion if it wasn't for the Persona 5 Royal announcement though.
I always just assume when this much effort is put in, anything that wasn't changed just wasn't able to be changed. Maybe it's something that's hardcoded in?
Like how in Smash Bros Mods they're never able to change the artwork or the names for the character.
Freeride, Fall of Porcupine and Kulebra and the Souls of Limbo stood out to me the most.
It's kind of baffling how some people are surprised that these games have an audience. Were they living under a rock when Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley sold millions of copies?
Sad to see him leave Game Freak. He designed a number of Pokemon I really loved. Golurk, Trevenant, Centiskorch, Polteageist and Mandibuzz in particular.
The ghost type will be worse off for it!
I guess it's still possible that he designed Pokemon for Scarlet/Violet, presuming this new studio is a somewhat recent development.
My mind goes to either Jimmy Neutron or maybe Jenny Wakeman (her mum has a lab I think...and I didn't watch the show but I assume Jenny was created in that lab)
I usually pick based on a mix of what the first stage and final stage is like, mostly the final stage. Whichever design I like most.
I don't have any loyalty to a type, although so far I've picked water 4 times and grass/fire 2 times each. (I'll probably be going with Fuecoco or Quaxly this time around, leaning towards Fuecoco)
The Legends catching mechanic did make things more streamlined, but I don't know if that was the best thing...it made catching feel more trivial.
Maybe if pokedex research doesn't return it won't even be that important anyway, since you won't have to catch 20+ of a particular Pokemon so you'll be catching less Pokemon anyway.
Honestly I like the idea of being able to throw our own Pokemon out more than the empty pokeballs.
@FireRabbit There's no way it's just an announcement of an announcement. 14 minutes is plenty of time for some trailers.
or in the case of a gen 9 announcement, a brief "look at the history of Pokemon" intro and a trailer or two showing off the game. (the gen 8 reveal was under 8 minutes after all)
Not that I think we're definitely getting gen 9 announcements, just that the length of this direct doesn't rule anything out by itself.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Super Mario Bros. Wonder?
I'd probably give it a 7/10 so far.
Although I've never been a big fan of 2d platformers so that probably factors into the score somewhat.
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Professor Layton And The Unwound Future
Europe is my favourite overall.
I like America/Japan too except the bottom banners are taking up far too much real estate.
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Yoshi's Cookie
I like how the cookies are falling on the Japanese cover, plus the cookie box is a nice touch. (so I voted for Japan)
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Kirby & The Amazing Mirror
I kinda prefer the Europe/Japan one, although there's not that much difference. The NA one feels more cluttered to me.
Re: Unity Apologies For Its 'Runtime Fee' Policy, Promises To Make 'Changes'

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The Nintendo Direct, Then?
I thought it was a strong direct overall, the best one I've seen in recent memory for sure.
The Princess Peach game looks fun, there's a remaster of Another Code coming along with a remaster of TTYD. Both of them look really exciting. There were some other interesting games too.
I don't really care about the F-Zero game but it seems like it'll be fun for people who love that series.
Re: Another Code: Recollection Remakes Two Cult Classics On Switch in January 2024
Another Code is probably the DS game I feel the most nostalgia for, so this is a great surprise!
Cool that it includes both games in the series too.
Re: GameCube Classic Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Is Heading To Switch
Gee Mario RPGs getting all the love right now. I had been thinking about replaying the first two Paper Mario games but maybe I'll pick this up instead.
Pretty strong direct overall, strongest in a long time.
Re: Nintendo Direct September 2023: Time, Where To Watch, Our Predictions
@LadyCharlie I'm not interested in it myself but
I'm super excited to see people lose their minds over a new F-Zero game.
Re: Poll: Will You Be Getting Pokémon Scarlet And Violet's DLC?
I'll probably get it eventually but I'm not in a rush.
To be honest I didn't really like the format of the dlc for Sword/Shield and this seems like it's more of the same.
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: New Super Mario Bros.
They're pretty close, I'll say I'm not really a fan of the big mario so I voted for the EU one.
Re: Poll: Who Will You Be Playing As In Super Mario Bros. Wonder?
I'd probably pick Daisy or Luigi.
Although I'd probably go with Yoshi if they weren't easy mode.
Re: Poll: Hasn't Nintendo Always Been An 'Entertainment' Company?
I've always thought of it as primarily a video game company. I'm definitely not unaware of all the other things going on but it's still always felt like a video game company at its core.
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Sea Of Stars
I think I like the Japan one slightly more overall. The EU one is also very nice but I feel like the moon overwhelms the cover somewhat, it feels hard to look at the characters because the moon demands your attention.
Re: What Year Is It? A Brand New Rugrats Game Has Been Announced
Looks cool although I was never really into the Rugrats side scrollers.
Now a remake of Search For Reptar I'd be all for.
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Excitebike 64
The Japanese one feels like it's aged very well. The western one by comparison feels very dated. Easy pick for Japan for me.
Re: Talking Point: Should The Pokémon Company Stick To Just One Pokémon Presents A Year?
I was just thinking earlier that The Pokemon Company do a really good job of making Pokémon seem boring in these directs.
I don't mind two directs a year but I'd definitely prefer if they cut the size of them in half if they're not going to have much interesting in them.
Re: Pokémon Presents August 2023: Time, Where To Watch, Our Predictions
I think it's possible that we might get a gen 5 remake made by Ilco....(they have to be working on something right?)
I feel like a legends style game might be kept for the Pokemon direct in February of next year.

Re: Poll: Is This The Very End Of The Road For E3?
I could see them attempting to do some kind of digital only event next year.
But yeah, in general E3 is not looking healthy.
Re: Poll: Octopath Traveler II Is Out Now, Which Character Will You Start With?
I might try out the demo and see if it hooks me. Tbh I never finished the first game so I'm not sure if I have much of an appetite for this second game.
I'd probably pick Partitio based on artwork and description.
Re: Gallery: Mario Characters' Movie Vs. Game Designs - Which Do You Prefer?
@solarwolf07 I feel like it's the teeth that makes Toad look weird, I don't think we've ever seen them with teeth in the games.
Re: Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective Gets Resurrected On Switch This Summer
Also, it's funny how you remember how games looked because when they said featuring high resolution graphics I was kind of like "but it doesn't look any different..."

Re: Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective Gets Resurrected On Switch This Summer
I'm not sure if I've ever bought a HD remaster of a game I've already played before (don't really see the point) but this could seriously get me to finally do it.
I hope it sells well!
Re: Poll: Fire Emblem Engage Is Out On Switch This Week, Are You Getting It?
I never finished Three Houses so probably not. That this game has less focus on the characters and story doesn't make me have high hopes that I'd finish this one either.

Re: Random: NASCAR Driver Stuns To Qualify For Championship With GameCube Move
@blindsquarel I think this guy actually came 5th, but it was still enough to qualify.
From comments I've read apparently he knocked his rival out of the competition with this move (they came 6th)
Re: In-Game Map For Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Hints At Multiple New Species
@RupeeClock I don't see why that would be the case, each pokemon already has a unique sprite as part of the team menu. It would be a waste not to use them for the mini map as well.
Re: Poll: So, What Do You Think Of Mario's New Look?
He looks kind of off. Not terrible but there's definitely a "somethings not right here" vibe to it.
Re: Poll: So, How Are You Pronouncing Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?
Tears (as in crying) of the Kingdom sounds a lot more elegant.
Tears (as in torn) of the Kingdom feels a lot more clunky in comparison.
Thankfully I'm pretty confident that it's the former and not the latter.
Re: New Limited-Time Pokémon Sword And Shield Distribution Announced For Europe
@Jeronan Maybe it's changed since the last time, but here in Ireland I once asked a Gamestop clerk for a code for a Pokemon promotion they were supposed to be doing and they looked at me like I had two heads.
Re: Poll: Is It Just Us, Or Was That Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Trailer A Little Confusing?
It seemed straightforward to me. What was there not to get?
Re: Feature: Which Region Has The Best Pokédex? Every Pokédex, Ranked From Best To Worst
I guess I'll add my own top 8, I've been playing since the first gen but tbh I don't look back super fondly on many Kanto Pokemon outside of a handful of them. 8. Kanto
7. Sinnoh
6. Johto
5. Kalos
4. Alola
3. Hoenn
2. Unova
1. Galar

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - Castlevania: Circle Of The Moon
Voted for US/Europe mainly because the Japanese one looks cluttered and my eye doesn't know where to look.

I'll probably wait for a sale. I bought Cybersleuth recently for about €8 on Humble so I'd guess this game will probably get a good discount eventually.
Re: Soapbox: 20 Years Later, Super Mario Sunshine Is Still The Best 3D Mario
Mario Sunshine was my favourite 3D Mario until Odyssey came along.
Galaxy was fine but it never really hooked me in the same way the above games did.
Re: DS Cult Favourite 'Touch Detective' To Get "Funghi Case Files" Collection On Switch In Japan
I have vague memories of this....I never actually played it though. Maybe now will be the time!
Re: Round Up: Every Game And Trailer From The Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase June 2022
Persona 5 Royal, Blanc and the Mega Man Battle Network Collection stood out for me the most.
Overall I thought the direct was pretty good. Honestly I'd probably have had a more neutral opinion if it wasn't for the Persona 5 Royal announcement though.
Re: Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, And Persona 5 Royal Are Coming To Switch
I had been planning on getting Persona 5 Royal for PC but now I'll definitely be picking it up on Switch instead.
Maybe if we support this release we'll get Persona 6 on a Nintendo console faster.
Re: NieR: Automata Switch Rumours Surface Online Ahead Of Nintendo Direct Mini
Persona on Switch?
So that's what that pig flying outside my window was about.

Re: Box Art Brawl: Duel #97 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Back From The Sewers
I think the poses on the Japanese box art are more dynamic and interesting. The western poses look a bit stiff.

My mind goes to either Jimmy Neutron or maybe Jenny Wakeman (her mum has a lab I think...and I didn't watch the show but I assume Jenny was created in that lab)
Re: Random: Jealous Husband Sells Wife's Harvest Moon Collection To Stop Her "Marrying Virtual Men"
He sounds like a keeper.
Notice that my comment is dripping in sarcasm.
Re: Feature: 7 Reasons For Picking Starter Pokémon, But How Do You Pick Yours?
I usually pick based on a mix of what the first stage and final stage is like, mostly the final stage. Whichever design I like most.
I don't have any loyalty to a type, although so far I've picked water 4 times and grass/fire 2 times each. (I'll probably be going with Fuecoco or Quaxly this time around, leaning towards Fuecoco)
Re: Poll: Do You Think Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Have Eye Issues?
I didn't really notice Sprigatito before...I can see it now but it's not a massive deal to me.
The trainer eyes I really don't care about, they look fine.
Re: Some Trainers Are Worried About Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Returning To "Traditional" Catching Mechanics
I'm not really fussed about it.
The Legends catching mechanic did make things more streamlined, but I don't know if that was the best thing...it made catching feel more trivial.
