Figured they'd be announced in this after the Xbox port, lot of companies like to announce Nintendo stuff on their time. Will definitely pick them all up but dunno if I'll get Royal at launch, mostly since I already have it on PS4 and Atlus games tend to drop in price quickly.

BTW, after the epic levels of whining for years for the P5 port, y'all had better put your money where your mouth is and buy it.

@rustedtin P5R is easily the best game on that list. VASTLY better dungeon design than the PS2 games, and the added storyline in Royal is one of the best story arcs I've seen in any Atlus game.

Getting really anxious for a bit, there. I traded in my copy of Persona 5 a few days ago in anticipation.

I'm happy to see Persona 3 (which I also own digitally), but if I'm not mistaken, the 'portable' edition does away with the explorable world (I heard it replaces the locales with a menu), and that's a bit disappointing...

The impact of this would’ve been so much greater if it launched years ago to coincide with Joker being released in Smash, but better late than never, I guess.

The website linked in the article has info about which are getting physical editions, look at the asterisk on the chart at the bottom of the page.

It looks like Persona 5 Royal is getting a physical release on all platforms, while the others are only getting digital releases. It doesn't give more details than that, but hopefully this means no code-in-a-box.

Chill. I personally have it pre-ordered on Steam. Though it doesn't really hurt to tell Atlus we want it on a different platform especially the last survey they had. There's a difference between, "this should be on Switch!!!111!!" versus "I also want this on Switch!".

@rustedtin Every game is better in every way than the one that precedes it, especially on the QoL front. So if you’re certain you’re going to play only one, go for P5R. If you think there’s a chance in the long run you’re going for the trilogy, go in order.

Really happy about this. I've been playing Persona 4 Golden on my PSVita and PS2 (original) for years. Now I get to have them on the go on a better handheld (imo).

I'll be double dipping on both PS and Switch for sure. Hope there's physical versions coming. Here's hoping SMT will break it's shackles into multiplatform next.

Now knowing that these ports are on all platforms just makes the Xbox embargo look scummy to try and get some attention. Even though the news would have surfaced it's very manipulative.

P5R is really good. There is an initial what the heck is going on phase but then things start moving with pace and if you like good story telling/plot it pulls you in as you count down the days each month. Fingers crossed the Switch port is good.

I must confess, ever so slightly disappointed this happened as after many hopes I decided to start Royal on the PS4 a few weeks back. Now 50 hrs in as being my 3rd attempt at Persona 5 (I’d say around 100 hrs combined so far) I’m not stopping to restart yet again.

Honestly Royal should have been on Switch from Day 1. The Switch’s hybrid nature just fits so well with my day to day life and desire for JRPGs.

I bought and completed P5R in Dec 2020 because I thought it wouldn’t come to switch (P5S was announced and destroyed the last hopes).

Maybe i buy it again in a sale. I’ve enough to play with XC3, P3P and P4G

This is outstanding news! Currently playing through P5 Royal on PS5, but from my time playing P4G on Vita think this is a series that works so well on portable systems and the more people that can play these utterly exceptional games the better! Day 1 purchase without a doubt.

I've played all the persona games and can definitely say you are all in for a treat, some of the best jrpgs ever and miles better than the shin megami games Nintendo fans are used to

Also I might replay 3 and 4 again on the switch due to portability but I won't be playing 5 again, already played it twice with over 200 hours put into it

Finally. Just a pity that will be most likely waiting until 2023 to get these (except P5R), but at least it is finally happening. I am kind of hoping for physical releases, but if not, so be it.

I'm happy these are finally coming to the Switch. I'll probably just get P4G though. The pacing of the OG P5 really turned me off, plus I found none of the characters nearly as likable as those from the past titles. As for P3P, it looks... rough. I still have my PS2 and P4FES, so if anything I'll just hook that up again

I actually love Persona 4 Dancing. It's my favorite rhythm game of all time. 3 and 5 suck, but 4 is amazing. But I wasn't referring to spinoffs.

Whining is always aggravating. But for Persona it was warranted I think. ATLUS was being idiots putting Joker in Smash, even releasing Persona 5 Strikers, but not giving Switch gamers the main series.

People asked them for years to bring these games over. And a lot of ppl took pleasure in lording the games over us, telling us how it'll never happen, it's too important to Sony, it can't run, yada yada.

Then when they were announced for Xbox, Steam and PS but not Switch, it almost felt targeted. Like ATLUS was purposely trying to piss off Switch owners. Especially after Soul Hackers 2 coming to everything but Switch.

The poor preorder numbers of Soul Hackers 2 compare to SMTV though, I think that's showing ATLUS their mistake. And the multiplatform release of Persona brings with it a new era, without all these games locked down on PS. Seeing Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core announced multiplat, and FFVIIR finally coming to Steam, gives me hope. We're trending in the right direction.

This is definitely something to talk about. I honestly thought that one day Atlus would announce a Switch version of Persona 5 but only if SMTV also came to PS4. Basically a game 'what's yours is mine and mine is yours'. Fair for the Playstation players right? Well considering there are a lot of big third-party PS5 exclusives
coming, maybe this isn't so much of a hassle.
People may have already enjoyed this on PS4 but I can at least play it hands on. Like a companion to the PS4 version if you already own it, this one is portable at last!

You might think there's no relationship between Persona and Elden Ring. But in my calendar, and according to my backlog management sheet, there is.

if persona 3 and 4 are only digital only that is a massive disappointment...

@rustedtin 5 is the most streamlined and game and has the best dungeons all things considered just by default of actually having non randomized dungeons. 4 has probably the best characters. That's a little controversial, but they definitely have more depth and the individual character stories are a little darker and more risky in 3 and 4. 3 probably has the best social links but it's the worst game of the 3, 4 probably has the best characters but the lightest toned story and the gameplay is just good enough, 5 royal has definitely the one of the best turn based battle system ever and the story is good enough, but the characters are kinda bleh and the team feels less like a team than the other games. In 5 half the team just kinda gets sidelined narratively.

The p3p release is for sure a good call and even p4 golden if for some reason someone didn't have a PC and wanted to play it, but I'm sure most people interested in p5R have played it by now. I mean, I bought p5 twice now so thats all the double dipping atlus is getting from me. I might by p4 golden again for the portability and I haven't play p3 in 15 years so I'll probably get those.

@NintendoWife persona itself is technically a spin off of another series, but persona is more popular than the main series anyway. These are the mainline persona games anyone really cares about. Persona 2 was had a great story but that game is a slog.

To be honest I saw this coming ever since it was announced that Golden and Portable was getting a re-release on PS4 and that Royal was getting a digital version. A few days later it was announced that the XBOX 360 and S was also getting a port of those titles. I figured that it was a matter of time before it would happen on the Switch.

I'll probably pick 5 Royal to see how it fares in comparison with proper SMT, but 3 and 4 being digital only means that even if I end up liking 5, the other two will have to wait for some deep discounts.
Hopefully Switch finally getting Persona means more old SMT-related titles in the future.

Yayyy! I've been asking for a Persona 4 Golden port for years. Sadly, if it's coming next year I'll most likely get my new PC long before then and just purchase it on Steam.

@westman98 I wonder how much of that was determined by Nintendo, rather than AtluSega. I realize that Ubisoft and others have announced forthcoming games on their own time, but I feel like there is some implied value in a Nintendo Direct that some companies may be considering.

Alternatively, Nintendo could have asked Atlus to reserve this particular part of the announcement. It would certainly be revealing to find out which way it generally goes!

I was responding to another individual who made the claim that they were "tired of all the whining for this game on Switch".

In my response, in order to build rapport, I conceded that could indeed be aggravating, but then went on to point out why people had been wanting these games so badly.

So I never really brought it up, I only made a passing comment about it in response to someone else accusing ppl of "whining"

That being said, I do think gamers have a tendency to whine about things. What constitutes "whining" imo? I'd say repeatedly making complaints over and over again at any given opportunity. Saying something once should suffice. Repeating it ad nauseum does constitute whining imo.

However, I don't think it's fair to accuse most of this with regard to Persona. People just really wanted it, and you're supposed to voice your demand for things if you want it. So all the people nagging Atlus on Twitter about it, I say good for them. That's exactly what they should be doing. A closed mouth doesn't get fed. If ppl don't like hearing it, they can block those users and that's the end of it.

Most of the actual, legitimate whining I've observed, is in forums and fan site comment sections, where people complain about something even when it's off topic, and they repeat those complaints at every opportunity. Like with $60 games. I'd see people make the same comment 7 different times on 7 different articles about a game leading up to its release. Once is fine, but by the 7th article it's like dude... respectfully, shut it already. We're sick of hearing it. If the game isn't worth $60 to you, then don't buy it. Or wait for a sale. That is a clear cut case of whining in my view.

Voicing demand to a developer/publisher, on the other hand, is necessary. Many use derogatory terms such as "port begging" to dissuade people from doing it, but the motive behind it is usually, in my experience, console warring fanboys who secretly fear its going to work, and they want their special game to stay exclusive so they can continue lording it over others to boost their fragile egos.

If you really only want to play one of the games, i would suggest 5.
Each of the games has it's own strengths, but 5 is probably best to get into, mainly because of QoL and gameplay, which is the strongest point of P5, compared to the other games.

That being said, each of the games has some big basic improvements over its predecessor. That makes it potentially hard to go back, once you played one of the later games.

I think everyone assumed that E3 wouldn't have been cancelled this year, which meant that Nintendo would have hosted their E3 Direct just a few days after Microsoft's E3 presentation. In that case, the Persona games would have been announced for Xbox/Windows and Switch just a few days apart rather than 3+ weeks apart.

It sounds like timed exclusivity deals with Sony. Atlus just chooses not to speak up about them, which is really stupid. I think Persona 6 would likely be a Sony exclusive at launch, before it hits other platforms. The same idea goes for Shin Megami Tensei V and future games on Nintendo consoles. Atlus just needs to talk.

@ShadowofTwilight22 It won't stop. That kinda thing is best to just ignore. Let the mods worry about that and less hair-pulling on your end. As long as the discussion is still civil I don't see any problem people "asking" for a port. IMO it only turns into "begging" when one is being quite aggressive about it.

@ModdedInkling This is going on for years though. I'm already thinking even before Atlus even starts developing a Persona sequel Sony's already sending checks to them for the exclusivity.

I'm perfectly fine having timed exclusivity, but like...Atlus really needs to be transparent about it.

Looks like I was a bit confused. I was thinking number 5 was a totally new upcoming game, but it is the most recent game, the one with Joker. Still very good news though that it finally hits Switch. Might check it out in the future.
