"I realize that some people who “play to have fun” and who currently form the majority of players"
There's something so funny about this line to me....like he's hopeful that one day most people won't play games to have fun.
"I see this as one reason that there haven’t been as many major game-changing content that were user generated as one would expect."
I mean...isn't the reason because they don't support people modding console games? There are plenty of PC games that have massive modding scenes with an endless amount of user generated content.
I never set my expectation super high with the indie world showcase (since often I've heard of the games before) but this one was pretty good, it had a few games that caught my eye.
Probably an odd combo....but I've been playing Shin Megami Tensei V and a Nancy Drew game. (they're selling for less than 3 euros on Steam in the sale right now) They're surprisingly charming and have interesting stories. Although you have to be able to deal with the awkward visuals and interface.
For the price I'd say they're worth having a look at though if you have a craving for a mystery solver/puzzle game.
@Mauzuri I don't remember people hating ORAS though.
At the very least I enjoyed them. I don't see how they "changed too much".
I think maybe you're treating the "they changed too much" and the "they didn't change enough" people as if they were the same people. Any group of people are going to have different opinions. If you just treat them like the one person, of course they're going to sound like hypocrites.
@Mauzuri If peoples expectations were set by anything, it was likely by HGSS and ORAS. I don't think peoples expectations were too high.
I think the biggest issue for me with these remakes, is that it doesn't feel like they were trying to add new life to the games like they did with the previous remakes.
I'm not a fan of the chibi style but I think how unambitious these games are is a far greater flaw.
I guess for me personally I'm just more interested into remasters that add some new wrinkles to the existing game. Like how they added the DexNav to ORAS....or the flying over Hoenn mechanic.
As it stands these games are not that interesting to me. The underground areas where you can catch new Pokemon are neat, but it's not really enough on its own. (for me anyway)
A large part of how I feel about the Apollo Justice game is tied to the final case. It didn't really make sense to me and felt like a very unsatisfying way to end a game.
It doesn't really help that it also only had 4 cases (I guess at the time it wasn''t a big deal but in hindsight when games usually have 5/6 cases these days it's noticeable)...and it's not really a case of quality over quantity because the cases overall aren't much better or worse than other games.
I actually kinda prefer Apollo to Phoenix, but that doesn't really sway my opinion of the game he debuted in.
It's still a great game, just one of my least favourites looking back. (the musics brilliant though!)
It's not on the list, but the second Investigations game is probably my favourite Ace Attorney game outside of the main trilogy.
Although The Great Ace Attorney would be in my top five now too.
Ranking:
01. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
02. Justice For All
03. Trials and Tribulations
04. Miles Edgeworth Investigations 2
05. The Great Ace Attorney
06. Layton VS Wright
07. Spirit of Justice
08. Dual Destinies
09. Miles Edgeworth Investigations
10. Apollo Justice
I'm really glad that there seems to be some concept of trainers in this game, even if they don't use pokeballs.
That was the main thing I was still worried about.
My first thought when I saw Kleavor was that it reminded me of Scyther....and it turns it actually evolves from Scyther in the Hisui region. I'm not super crazy about it, it's ok. (I prefer Scizor)
Space Land and Horror Land are probably the two most nostalgic Mario Party boards for me....so they're definitely doing everything in their power to get me on board.
It's called "best visual novels" though. A visual novel just requires images and text to be considered a visual novel.
Also House in Fata Morgana has choices and multiple endings, so it's not much different from some other games on this list. (such as Arcade Spirits)
It seems kinda weird they would miss House in Fata Morgana considering they're literally doing (or they were doing) an article series on their playthrough of it.
One thing I don't really understand...is that I don't remember drift ever being an issue (at least not for me) before this generation. It feels like analog stick technology has gone backwards or something....
For people who don't live in Ireland, there are some areas in Ireland known as the Gaeltacht where Irish is recognized as the predominant language. I've never been to them but I remember hearing about some people going to school there for a period of time in order to learn the language. Kids who were sent to the gaeltacht would have to speak irish all the time (both at school and with the family they were staying with)
I always wish I had a better grasp of the Irish language. I didn't really have a great introduction to it growing up, in primary school I had a teacher who taught the class almost entirely in Irish, so if you were already having difficulty with learning the language it was very easy to get lost. I'm not sure if I learned anything from his class.
It is annoying how quickly people are to jump on the idea of a game being dead or going through development hell. There are a lot of indie games I follow, and if there's even the slightest hiccup in development or if their personal lives get in the way you have people shouting that the project is dead.
People need to relax. (I feel like that could be the tagline for the internet though )
If I hadn't already played these games I'd be jumping on this straight away. Great series. (If you love games like Ace Attorney or Zero Escape it's really a no brainer to pick it up)
I think the only games I've replayed are the Ace Attorney games, just to experience the story again...
Although Ace Attorney is my favourite game series of all time so I think it's a special case. Usually I don't replay games unless they're specifically made for replayability. (like Smash Bros)
I wonder if maybe Legends: Arceus is coming out earlier than expected because the 9th generation is coming in late 2022? It would probably be around the time for it...(based on previous patterns)
I saw over on Rockpapershotgun, leaked documents detailing how much Epic Games paid for some of the free games they gave away on PC. It's super interesting. (It also includes how many new users they got with each of the free games)
Alpha Sapphire is working fine for me. If it was an issue with 3ds carts wouldn't we have heard about this sooner? It's not like ORAS was among the first 3DS games.
At least you'd expect X & Y to start going bye bye first.
Every couple of years I remember Neopets and think about rejoining but I lost my password and I don't really want to set up a new account. (I mean it's bad enough that I've left my neopets to starve, but replace them on top of that?)
I remember being completely invested in my own shop selling items back when I first played it.
I don't think I've ever felt as offended on behalf of an imaginary being as I was when I discovered that Doshin the Giant doesn't have a smash bros ultimate spirit.

Re: February 27th Is Pokémon Day, And We're Getting Announcements Every Day This Week
@Fizza That or a code for some special Pokemon.
I can't imagine Sword/Shield getting anything big.
Re: Atlus Is Teasing Something On A New Soul Hackers Countdown Website
I was wondering if they might release a port of the Soul Hackers game, since it'll be harder to obtain on 3DS when the eShop closes down.
Re: Pendula Swing Will Combine The 1920s Jazz Age With A Fantasy Cast
I got this in the itch.io racial justice bundle a few years ago.
Interesting game, I haven't played anything like it. 1920s urban fantasy definitely isn't something you see very often.
Re: Random: Remember Those AI-Generated Pokémon? Now You Can Catch One Of Your Own
I got Mawkino, it kinda looks like a baby snowman head fused with a melting Manaphy.

Re: Video: We Forced A Bot To Create Switch Games That Don't Exist, And Now We Wish They Did
I feel like a loss of freedom and eternally submitting to our robot overlords is a small price to pay for a Doshin the Giant sequel.
Re: Round Up: Every Switch Game Announced In Nintendo's Indie World Showcase - December 2021
I never set my expectation super high with the indie world showcase (since often I've heard of the games before) but this one was pretty good, it had a few games that caught my eye.
Loco Motive in particular looks fun.
Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate Nintendo's 2021?
Overall I ranked it a 6/10. New Pokemon Snap was the main game from Nintendo that excited me this year.
If I was a big Metroid fan I'd probably have given the year a higher score though.
(If I was ranking third party games, which this poll isn't about....I'd probably bump it up to a 7/10 thanks to SMT IV)
Re: Feature: How One Small Company Is Making The Switch Joy-Con You Always Dreamed Of
@DevinRex I actually thought that was what they meant from the headline and then I was kinda sad when they started talking about colours.

Re: Negative Nancy Is A Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Game Where You Can Only Say 'No'
@PessitheMystic
It's not plagiarism. I played a more basic version of Negative Nancy a few years ago, before I heard anything about "Say No More".
Look here, someone plays a version of this game on Youtube 2 years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IgW38kmsF0
Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons: Everything We Know About The Happy Home Paradise DLC
I love that they've brought back some more of the older villagers.
I remember looking at Roswells design a while back (he was a Japan only character) and thought it looked really cool.
Overall it seems like they're making some very big additions to the game.

Re: New PEGI Gambling Criteria Means Old Pokémon Games Would Now Be Rated 18+
It's bonkers to me that they've decided to place a 18+ rating on simulated gambling...
but apparently gambling through lootboxes (i.e actual gambling) is still rated 3+ under these rules.
Re: Did You Know That Zelda: Phantom Hourglass Borrows Its Most Ingenious Puzzle From Another Game?

Re: Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl Is A "Smash Bros-Alike" Fighting Its Way To Switch This Fall

It's probably the same reason we have Nigel and not Eliza.

Neither of them are very good, but I voted for Japan just because they also have Geno and Mallow on the box.

Personally I would have preferred if the diamond/pearl remakes had looked like the legends game.
Re: Introducing Pokémon Legends: Arceus, An Open-World Prequel To Diamond And Pearl
Excited for this. I also really like how they went with a different mix of starters, I'd like to see more of that for other spinoff games like this.
I'm hoping that this is a sign that they're really trying to push outside of their comfort zone.
