Okay, let's see if we can get through this one without a single 'wonder' pun...
Last week, Super Mario Bros. Wonder launched to almost universal acclaim from critics and players alike. Sure, you'll find a dissenting voice or two in the crowd if you go hunting for them, but the vast majority of Mario fans have been in their element spending the last few days exploring the Flower Kingdom and delighting at the strange effects elicited by the game's namesake seeds.
It's currently sitting with a Metascore of 93, and will certainly be cropping up in many a GOTY conversation a couple of months from now. You might say, Well, obviously..., but especially given the huge number of quality games that have launched in 2023, it certainly wasn't a foregone conclusion.
Personally, we think it's a triumph. PJ called it "quite simply, the best 2D Mario game since Super Mario World" and awarded it a 9/10 in our review:
