Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Super Mario Bros. Wonder?

I'm only Upto the 2nd world so far but it's very very good

I'm torn between collecting every wonder seed and purple coin as I go, or do I just blitz through the game and then go back for the things I missed.

I'm curious to hear which way other people are doing it

Of course someone has to vote for '1 - Abysmal'. I mean, really? Do you really think it's that bad? Even if Mario isn't your thing, there's no denying its a well polished and well made game! 🤷‍♂️

Only on world 3, but it's basically perfect so far. Easily the best 2D Mario since SMW (I count Yoshi's Island as separate). If not for Zelda it would be an easy GOTY imo.

100% the game, and its great! For me though, there are just a good handful of small downsides that drags down the overall experience a little (e.g. the boss fights, or not being incentivised to use any badges beyond the parachute cap outside of self-inflicted challenges), but it was a brilliant time through and through. I only wish that at its core you had more actions available to you - as it stands you just have a jump, crouch and ground pound. Having at least a dive move would make the game feel a bit more interactive at a base level, plus would provide more interactions between various level elements and the power ups. Just imagine blowing a bubble, jumping onto it, blowing another, then diving onto that one for large gap skips. The game just feels very railroaded in a sense, but thats not entirely a bad thing at all. Just glad to finally see 2D mario being not dull for the first time in over a decade.

9/10 for me. Making Yoshi invincible with no toggle was a weird choice.

Currently, I would probably give the game close to a 9 since I haven't made it far enough to experience the whole game yet. That may change once the credits roll!

Very positively surprised. I did not such a great game, possibly because the 2D mario games were often bland and not super inspired.

10/10 for me so far. Way too much fun that in fact, I ignored playing Ace Attorney and Danganronpa THH because I am having way too much fun with Super Mario Wonder.

I've never enjoyed 2d Mario games. I always end up getting stuck fairly early and giving up.

It's not that I don't like hard games, completed Hollow Knight. It's just I never seem to want to play the same level time and time again.

Are there any non Mario fans on here that got converted or is it more of the same.

Easy 10/10 for me. Hands down the best 2D Mario since Mario World and up there with the best Mario games(including 3D ones too).

But really enjoying Mario Wonder it just seems a bit different to the others I haven’t got on with before.

@Member_the_game I am on World 2 as well and trying to get everything before I move on. I also think that hte game is GREAT - so fun and addictive. I enjoyed the NSMB series, but this one feels a little extra special.

If you play video games at all I can't see how you could score this anything less than 8/10.
If you play video games as a serious hobby or are a Nintendophile, I feel like it's really hard to score it less than 9. It's EASILY the better than every single game in the "New" series, even if it lacks the challenge that some of them had. This game perfectly ushers in Mario and friends into modern 2D platforming and is a perfect introduction to newcomers. Every detail they've added to animations, expressions, and simple movements makes this game "click" better than any 2D Mario has since Super Mario World.
Digital Foundry's review of the game is almost beat by beat how I would describe this game, and it's an instant 9/10 upon starting the game up, and by the time you're done, you'll get to the 10.

It's a 10 for me. It feels like a game I will remember fondly 10 or 20 years from now.

I give it a 10 out of 10. I’m currently on World 5. My attention is divided between SMBW and Fire Emblem Engage (which I’m also really enjoying). So I haven’t beat it yet.

How anyone can say 10/10 outstanding is beyond me. It’s great but nothing amazing.

Enjoying it so far, but something just isn’t resonating with me. Maybe it’s the overly cute design (not vibing with the overall art direction) or the simplicity in some of the levels. Also I really want to ride Yoshi…
I’ve only just got through the first castle, so probably too early to give a full sentiment. Right now, 8/10.

the game oozes creativity, it's got something to show at every corner, and the level design is impeccable. Difficulty level is spot on

@ear_wig I’m finding the sound effects really annoying. Jump sound boing is grating on me like it’s never done before in any other Mario game. It’s a fantastic game but to say 10/10 perfect I just can’t agree with that.

I'm surprised about all the positive comments, I thought the game was way too easy.

Off topic but somewhat similarly I don't like TOTK, perhaps I'm just out of tune with what is going on in gaming right now...

I've already 100% it 😅 9.5/10, only complaint is lack of boss variety. Otherwise, wonderful level design, truly a joy to play.

The game is still good fun and I don't regret it at the end of the day, but there are some things I wasn't a fan of or wish it could've been better:

The bosses are absolutely pathetic as there are only a short amount of them in variety and scope. I would say that the final boss "made up for it", but that's because it was the only boss in the game I actually enjoyed in contrast.

The Wonder Flowers were neat ideas, but they also budged with the pacing and focus of the levels for me; I actually preferred the "structured" design of the previous 2D Mario games because they were very focused and gave me "everything" I needed for me and my own skills to succeed in, something in which SMBW's Wonder Effects just couldn't provide me with.

The Badge system felt way underdeveloped (especially compared to the Play Tonics system in Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair) in that not only can you only equip one of them and only being allowed to swap them between deaths in levels, but most of the badges that weren't Add ! Blocks and Coin Magnet were seemingly useless to me.

Overall, I wish Super Mario Bros Wonder could've been much better, despite having decent fun with it, and the only genuine least thing I can say about this game is that I'd still play it over Super Mario Run, which I thought was "meh" even for a (Nintendo) mobile game.

7/10 is where I’m right now leaning. Some levels have a very strange focal-point that feel unearned by the time you finish them. Also, Co-Op does not feel great for this game and its the mode I really wanted to see them get right, having beaten some of the recent 3D Mario games exclusively in co-op.

I’m about 70% through it. So good. A few stages had me beaming with genuine surprise—like to the point of laughing out loud—which is unheard of for me.

Only qualm is challenge. Even the special stages so far are fairly tame. Oh, and there’s no real motivation to experiment with badges. The R button has basically been locked to the cap ability for me.

The only thing I’d ding it on is soundtrack. It’s just a slight disappointment. Oh, and the English flower voice actor is intensely annoying to me. Other than that, it’s a 10 for me.

I need to play more of it, but I will say this is the first 2D Mario game in a long time that I’ve been excited and curious about within the first couple stages! Elephant Mario and it’s abilities bring back that super fresh feeling that SMW, Mario 64, and Mario Galaxy gave. So far, easily the best 2D Mario since SMW. NSMB on DS with the Golden Flower and Giant Mushroom were the closest power ups in recent memory to tickle that Mario Excitement, but still not as much as the aforementioned games, and Wonder.

It is Not the best 2d Mario since world. It’s the best 2d Mario ever by a long shot. I’ve played every single Mario platformer to death and world is my least favorite, maybe its tied with the lost levels for Mario games I don’t really care for. The first time I played sonic three I was Mindblown. How did they get this in a video game? The graphics are amazing. I’ve never once felt that about Mario world. It was always the game I settled for because my cousin only has a Super Nintendo.

9/10. A really solid 2D Mario game that's a breath of fresh air after the creatively stagnant line of New Super Mario Bros. games. As others have rightfully complained about on Twitter (although not so much here that I can see from skimming the comments), the boss fights are a major strike against what would otherwise be a nearly perfect 2D platformer.

Spoiler warning, I guess, for anyone who doesn't want to be spoiled by what ISN'T there, but there are no unique boss fights beyond Bowser Jr. and the final showdown with Bowser. You fight Bowser Jr. like four times. But wait, you ask, doesn't the game have 7 worlds in total? Yeah, some of them just straight up don't end with a castle level and a boss fight. I mean... credit where credit is due, I guess, they certainly subverted my expectations in breaking from the traditional Mario formula, but c'mon. King Boo even shows up in one of the commercials, so I thought for sure he'd be a boss, but no. No secret unlockable characters, either.

I was also hoping for more callbacks to the classics in terms of returning power-ups or levels based off the NES/SNES games or something, but there's not really any of that here. Some nostalgic music cues to be on the lookout for, though. As for the new music, there's certainly a couple standout tracks like the swamp theme that's genuinely quite melancholic, but on the whole the soundtrack is just...okay.

I know I'm complaining a lot about things I wish were there, but what the game does have is nothing short of fantastic. The amount of variety that was constantly on display made it difficult for me to put the game down, which I haven't felt from a mainline Mario game since Galaxy 2. Pretty much every level has some new mechanic to throw at you, but they aren't throwaway gimmicks; they add a lot to the overall experience and kept me from getting bored--as did the character selection. I didn't think I would ever use Yoshi due to not wanting an easy-mode character, but he made it much less tedious having to replay levels to find secrets and grab the top of the flagpole.

It goes without saying, but the detailed animations were an absolute treat. I do think adding a little depth-of-field like Donkey Kong games do would have gone a long way in making the game look even more impressive, but the vibrant color palette is so inviting. Having already 100% completed the game over the weekend, I can't help but wish it was a little longer, though. I would love to see this game supported with new kingdoms as DLC; I don't think it's too unlikely, considering the last two NSMB games also had DLC. Fingers crossed.

I think it's safe to say the Mario mandates are officially dead. A golden age is upon us.

It’s an Nine for me. Everything’s nicely done, the courses are fun, and the frame rate and graphics are good-but there are a few hiccups, including the boss fights, game length, and bugs.

8/10 for me so far - it's very polished and good clean fun. Feel they repeat wonder seed ideas too often across levels though and its geared towards kids with difficulty. Still, nice to see a change in art style and make 2D mario weird in a good way again!

I've only played the first 2 worlds so far, and already the level design is the best in 2D Mario history.

I look up games on how long to beat to get an idea of how long they are, but for games like this, Tears of the Kingdom, Breath of the Wild, and the Kingdom games (Kingdom New Lands, Kingdom Two Crowns, etc) I need a website like "how long to enjoy" or something. Mario Wonder is easily a perfect score game for me. I've only played about 5 to 10 hours so far, but the music, graphics, level design, sound design (little instruments get added to a song when you WALK!), multi-player (they found a way to make the Mario Maker 2 races not have lag and suck!), extremely cute and interesting animations, and the rich, queenly quality of the whole game make it one for the ages. Amazing how it brings back the joy of Yoshi's Island, Mario 3, and many others. I've been playing Sonic Superstars and had about 15 minutes trying to beat one level (7 or 8 minutes on the not fun boss). There isn't 5 seconds that isn't fun in Mario Wonder! I had to play some of the 4 and 5 star levels many times, but it was a fun challenge, not like work (in some Sonic Superstars levels I feel obligated to complete a boss fight even though part of me wants to quit and turn off the game without completing the level and thereby saving my progress). In Mario Wonder I'm reluctant to progress! I don't want it to end!

I can't give it a fair rating... at least not yet, as I only started playing last night. I will say this though, from what little I have played, I'm definitely enjoying the game.

Awesome game, easily a 9.5. My only complaint is the flying airship boss takes 1 hit. I mean I wish it was a bit more challenging. Super fantastic absolutely fun game to play with the kids! Doesn't dissapoint😀

Honestly, I won't know until I beat Super Mario Bros. Wonder, but this feels like 2017 all over again. Breath of the Wild was my favorite game that year, until Odyssey released and it became my GOTY, it'll be interesting to see how things go in 2023, with both TOTK and Wonder.

Nope. I really enjoyed botw, but struggled with totk. Just too convoluted with all the mechanics and clunky ultrahand etc. Found the game boring to be honest, as I do most modern games. Even playing mario wonder, it's good, but don't see it as being great.
For me, the snes, n64 and gamecube era was the best of nintendo gaming.

For me it’s a 9. I’m 43 and my first Mario game was Mario Bros at the arcade when I was like 4.

It does not give me that sense of awe and wonder that Super Mario World did when it came out, but it’s very very solid and I’ve greatly enjoyed it.

I wish you could ride Yoshi in single player and/or different colored Yoshi’s had different abilities.

I love the online element and get a lot of fun from helping people not die when they are ghosts.

And exactly as expected, after I searched for the "challenge" word within the comments all of them were negative and complaining about the lack of it. I really find no fun when there is no difficulty at all in games so this is sadly not for me. I was really waiting for it

9.5 (so by process of rounding for the poll... it's a 10). When a game can make me almost wet myself with laughter (even when I die) I know it's winner.

I'm really happy to see Nintendo take the 2D Mario games seriously again with this level of creativity. Normally this would be reserved for the 3D series, or feel slightly out of place in 2D/3D hybrid style titles like Galaxy 2 / 3D World (by which I mean the "one hit wonder" idea approach). It works so much better in the 2D format IMO.

I've seen multiple reviews cite this as the best thing or "true sequel" to Super Mario World - and in terms of evolving the series in the right direction... I'd have to agree. Mario has never looked or been quite as expressive as in this game. The talking flowers are this cherry on top of the Wonder effects. Well done Nintendo.

@Baler because it's a poll and everyone will have a different opinion... Just because you don't think it's 10/10 (same as me) others will think it is. I also agree that the jump slam sound needed changing. It doesn't suit the game at all.

They should have allowed any character to be an invincible mode, and still got the power ups. My 4 year old wants to be Peach but can't handle the stress. She also feels left out cause she can't be an elephant like Mom and Dad

@NinjaNicky yeah I know some people will think 10. It’s just an opinion after all. But when I think about how awesome super Mario world was and still is I think wonder doesn’t quite get there. I wanted to be blown away from the start like world did back in the day but the first couple of worlds haven’t done that for me. I mean the music isn’t even grabbing my attention like those catchy super Mario world themes did. Oh well maybe I’m just getting old 😝

I'm giving it a 9/10, it's up there with the best games released this year. This, Fire Emblem Engage, Metroid Prime Remastered, Kirby Return to Dreamland, Detective Pikachu Returns, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 DLC, Zelda TOTK and Pikmin 4 make this the best Switch year so far, and there's still Mario RPG and DQ Monsters to come 😬.

Loving it so far, i see a lot of people saying the difficulty isn’t there but i’m finding some of the levels hard to complete 100%. Maybe i’m just not that good at platformers, either way i’m having a blast

@fox_mattcloud People can score it whatever they want. Personally I haven't played the game but if someone thinks a game deserves a 1/10, regardless of anyone else's opinion they should be able to express that.

10/10 for me. A few minor complaints but nothing that greatly detracts from the game, though it is stuff that if Nintendo continues to build off this game (which I hope it does, 2D and 3D Mario can co-exist), I want to see fixed.

It's a perfect 10 for me. It literally reminded me why I like to play video games in the first place ...and I haven't gotten that feeling since maybe Odyssey but most likely even further back. Absolutely phenomenal and definitely one of my favourite games of all time after my very first playthrough. Already replaying it and the game just gets better and better. I've never enjoyed a game quite as much as this one, honestly, judging from the dumb smiles and laughter that just keep coming no matter how many times I replay a stage. Sure, the difficulty is not too high, but I prefer Mario to be relaxing and just ...fun. The Special World (and especially the very last level) were enough of a moderate challenge to make up for it in my opinion. Then again, I just prefer games that aren't too difficult.

It looks amazing, the controls are perfect and snappy and the entire game is pure quality and just feels like concentrated love, creativity and passion from every developer involved with no hints of rushing, budget limitations or deadlines, polished to a perfect sheen over many years. Hope for sequels that just build on this even further ...

...and for playable Wario and Waluigi lol

I haven’t played Wonder yet, but heard that there is a way to get hints. I like games that have built-in hint systems for the times when you are stuck on something. Knowing this, I may play casually and then return later to clean things up.

I never grew up with Super Mario World or Yoshi's Island, but I feel Super Mario Bros. Wonder is this generation's version of those. I do understand if people who played a lot of the older 2D Mario games will find this one an absolute breeze, so of course it's far from perfect in that regard. To me, though, with my first 2D Mario being NSMB on the DS, the difficulty was just what I want out of Mario games.

Also, sure, the music isn't up there with the classics, but I still liked it. Certainly better quality than the New series in my opinion.

Played it through with a friend. It's your average mario game. Bread and butter. Can't remember any of the soundtrack and not many levels stood out of the rest. A lot of gimmicks and stylistic choices have been done on other games before. The game was laughably easy. Only few stages in the special world gave some challenge and most of them were super short. Nothing special but pretty good for killing time.

I gave it an 8 out of 10, its an amazing but I personally liked the 3D world / land template way more than this one. And why is the Duff beer song in the soundtrack?

It’s a fantastic game, honestly it hard to find faults. The game is exceedingly more fun when playing co-op and to my surprise, without spoilers, there are some seriously difficult levels. I’m not sure if the reviewer missed these levels or it’s because co-op increases the challenge.

For context, on one level (5 star difficulty), my friend and I spent 80 lives (40 x2) approximately to beat said level.

I don’t believe any game is perfect. I do think this has potential to be one of the best 2D Mario games but to reflect on other Mario games, like Odyssey, Galaxy, or 64, it doesn’t seem to push the innovation in such a significant capacity for me to give it a 10.

It’s a highly successful evolution of the series, but it doesn’t push boundaries in a way that now raises the expectations of the series going forward. It’s not a revolution. It's an excellent 2D Mario, it goes back to really tight controls, bombastic music, great level design, it’s creative, colourful, and I am having a fantastic time enjoying every moment of it.

It’s just that it feels like it’s resting on the laurels of past games more so than take on significant risks. So that’s really the only reason I don’t believe it is a 10.

Im only about 6-7 hrs and maybe I need to try online but I’m sitting at a 9 and that’s still very impressive in a year of many great games.

It’s a 10 for me. Wonder has the same effect that BOTW had for me years ago. Just a fun and imaginative experience. I feel like a kid again.

I've only played a small handful of levels so far, so I can't really give it a score right now. I mean, it feels no different than previous 2D Mario games, but the gameplay is solid.

It is 10/10 easily. In a world of broken triple A games and middlingly redundant indie titles, this game shows Nintendo has more creativity, inventiveness, and magic in their little finger than any other studio has in their entire body. Death and ruin to anyone who thinks otherwise.

Okay, I don't have the game yet but after knowing the clarification about No Time limit and easy to farm 1-Ups in the game, I revised my personal reception from 5 - 6 / 10 to 7 / 10.
I saw something improved.

So much of this game looks tawdry, charmless, and off brand to me.

I can readily believe that the gameplay is good, but if I can't get on board with the presentation I won't give a game a try; I feel much the same way about the Mario and Rabbids games. And the Broodals nearly ruined Odyssey for me.

My buddy bought it day one and nearly has 100% in a little over 6hrs.. I can’t see paying for a 6-7 hour game for $60…

I am loving the game, but I don't feel like it reaches the heights of donkey kong tropical freeze. It's a great game, and I love the diversity of the wonder effects. I just wish the game was a bit longer or perhaps some stages that were like the overworld. Adding something unique or whatnot.

Has been a fantastic game.

9.5/10 from me (though I opted to round down when voting instead of following standard conventions). The game is mostly excellent, but I have some gripes with some of the writing and stages, the bosses could've been much better, the music doesn't meet the same quality level as 3D World and Odyssey, and I had a serious glitch tarnish the final boss for me. Never binged a game the way I did with Wonder, though not all of that was due to being hooked on the gameplay. Definitely another strong addition to the Switch lineup.

I haven't played it but if you can beat the entire game in 6 or 7 hours its hard for me to believe it's a 10/10 game.

@Matl I’m kindve with you on this. So far I’ve had a great time with this and do appreciate the variety in stages on hand. I do wish there were a few more moves to perform like a dive or backflip(which I never used) but something does seem to be missing for me when you compare this to new super Mario bros. I like this game better I think but it just seems like there is less in your repertoire from moves and power ups. The elephant power was pretty lackluster but the others are pretty good. I’d personally like some more returning like the frog suit or something. Also the music just doesn’t stick with me for the first time ever in a Mario game. That’s very strange.

I'll give it an 8. Love the creativity and personality but it's a bit barebones on content and on the short side. What's there is fantastic, I was just hoping for more unlockables and a meatier postgame.

I'm only a couple zones in and easily one of the best 2D

As of writing I have played every level up to shining falls. My impressions of it now is that it is very good, which puts it at a 7 on my scale (for reference a mediocre game is a 5, good games go in the 6 and 7 scale, 8 is great, and a 9 is a masterpiece).
I'd say it has potential for an 8 but so far the wonder seeds, while charming and inventive, haven't been all too mechanically engaging. A lot of them sum up to "Yep, that was certainly 20 seconds of something wacky" then just proceed through the level as normal.
I predict it will ramp up pretty soon and I'm now able to play the remaining worlds in whatever order I want, which is awesome. But if the levels stay as simple as they are now I don't see it cracking 8 for me, and Mario World & SMB3 will probably still reign above it. Though It is a game I'd certainly recommend to anyone.

@SirMiki Agree! That my favourite character, Yoshi, can't be played like a normal character, is a disappointment.

Generally speaking, there's not a great deal of innovation or majorly new in the core gameplay in SMB Wonder, and it's too easy, so that keeps it at a 9/10 for me.

I am at a point where I can progress into World 3. Wonder is no less than a 9 for me, but I do have concerns/issues. Knowing how many have already 100% the game, including my little brother, I'm concerned about long term incentives. I imagine I'll get answers to that once I beat the game. Then there are the boss battles so far...They haven't mechanically been a problem, but I'm baffled by the lack of originality in that aspect considering the game's overall creative direction. It's too early for me to say if Wonder is better than NSMB, SML2 or NSMB2, which are my current Top 3 for 2D Mario.

I probably won't get it. Seems great but too short. If rated it for how short I hear it is, it'd be a 2/10. But without time to beat being a factor, I'd guess I'd like it 8 or 9.

I am in world 1 still but it's good. I gave it a 7 cause it just feels like more of the same 2 d romp. I am sometimes reminded of Rayman while playing.

8.5 to a 9 for me. It's not a perfect game due to a couple of weird decisions (forced easy mode characters, boss fights, and some world ending abruptly without a boss fight), but it's absolutely a thrill to go through.

I also feel like this could've been a great game to have some wacky fun with the Koopalings for once without them feeling like they'd be overstaying their welcome. What we got instead does feel a bit lame on an otherwise wonderful game.

I can't fault it that much so a 10 it is for me. I actually agree with the minor negatives ppl have that drag it down to a (still outstanding) 9, but they are microscopic for me. In context of other games that are given 10s by me and by NL, this is a 10 all the way.

for nice little surprise a 10/10.. do found the multiplayer not really satisfying until now..

It is a great 8. 100% finished. It does a few things different but I think in the end, it is around the same level, as New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, which is also a great game.

Nintendo still has to top Tropical Freeze, which is an easy 10 for me. Pure perfection.

I'd probably give it a 7/10 so far.

100 percented. And I think it's amazing, but not perfect. The boss battles are a snooze, and that's super unfortunate - especially with how inventive the levels themselves are.

It feels so great to simply move about in this game.

I´d give it a 8 or 9 at the time of writing (currently on w-2).

Growing up with Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World as my favorite games, I recognize how perfectly Wonder slots into that legacy. But personal tastes have shifted over the last 20 years. It´s miles better than the New Super Mario Bros-games (which never really grabbed me), but the purity and simplicity of a classic Mario 2D-platformer aren´t really what I come to videogames for anymore.

I miss the Koopalings as mid-bosses, and the original Toad as a playable character. Yellow and Blue toad just don´t have his sass.

10 for me not really sure what more you could want from a 2D platformer.

I gave it a 9, although it IS a 10 I would have preferred amiibo use to be implemented. Perhaps make Yoshi a 'regular' character unless you scan his amiibo which makes him invincible? It would be good to play as him on regular setting. I would scan amiibo but I know others may not. But it is a brilliant fun game

A Great game… but falls short from a 10/10
Because:
-lack of challenge, extremely easy
-Cooperative play isnt great
-badges not encouraged
-lacks variety of bosses
-Silliest story yet.. and that was a low bar for a Mario gane!

Because Nintendo games are generally overrated (looking at you, Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey and Tears of the Kingdom), I'm enjoying reading this comments section. The comparison with Rayman Legends is interesting. Everyone should play that game. It's the best modern platformer. Please, play it if you haven't!

@TruthisRare I agree completely. SNES, N64 and GC was the best era of Nintendo.

@Baler @Ade117 Same here. Super Mario World still amazes me, but that particular song is touching without pretending.

I went with an 8. While its a great game a few nagging issues keep me from loving it. I wish on co-op you could individually choose badges. We tend to argue which badge to equip as I prefer the vertical wall jump to the parachute cap. Also, the lack of zooming out that was prevalent in NSMBU makes navigating when you dont have the crown a total chore. Constantly getting bubbled and having to catch up.

I changed my mind after I played a few levels of New Super Mario Bros. Deluxe. It is kinda lifeless compared to the new one. Even Mario's wahu sounds like he is sad or something.

Then I played a few level in Wonder and realised how fun and alive it is. The sound effects of the last badge made me giggle and smile.

Yes Wonder is a 10! Keep going Nintendo!

I think this is legitimately the first 10/10 platformer for me since Super Mario World. Wonder has put that stupid smile on my face that I had when playing All-Stars and World growing up. The platforming action is extremely enjoyable and well polished, even putting in some nice challenges for old vets like myself. I love the unorthodox effects of the Wonder seeds as well, which made way for some interesting innovations. The power ups in this game are a blast as well. Didn't know I was gonna enjoy being an elephant, but here I am!

I'd say the closest in recent years for platforming games I've played that are 9/10 on the border of being 10/10 for me were Super Mario Odyssey and Celeste. I can't decide if they're 10/10 or not, but Wonder there is no doubt it gets a perfect score in my book.

I haven't had this much fun in a video game since Mario Odyssey came out. For me its absolutely a 10/10 Im playing this game with a big ***** smile on my face the whole way through.

-.3- boss fights were meh, they couldve really went all out with this game especially.
-.3- i really wish each character had their own ability (peach/daisy float, luigi high jump, Toad speed)

Other than that i think the game is fantastic and easily the best 2D multiplayer to have ever released.

I'm currently on world 5 and I gotta say, I just can't help but find it funny that so many people were so insistent in the lead up to release that this wasn't going to be yet another New Super Mario Bros. lol. That Wonder was somehow going to be a completely different game. And while it is largely the same, I do have to say that this is definitely the best New Super Mario Bros. game that I've played. While the artsyle may be similar, the characters and objects inhabiting the world are much more expressive. Making the game feel less "sterile". And the wonderflower, while not groundbreaking, does add a certain level of flavor to the game that the traditional "New" series was lacking

It may not be the bold new direction for 2D Mario that many were hoping for, but its still a fun step in the right direction nonetheless

100% the game yesterday and I would say I give it a 9/10. It is easily, without question, the best 2D Mario game since Mario World and arguably one of the most creative Mario entries yet. However, there are a few hiccups that prevent it from being bona certified modern masterpiece in my eyes:

1) Like basically everyone on this comment thread and Twitter have stated numerous times, the boss fights are complete dogsh*t. So few and only the final boss fight evolves past "slightly more complex Boom Boom boss fight". How all the levels are oozing with creativity but the ball was dropped so hard for the boss fights complete escapes me.

2) I'm not a difficulty junky like lots of people on the internet are, but the game for the most part is incredibly easy which removes some of that catharsis I felt when beating a really challenging level in any of the past 2D Mario games. Only the final two secret levels rise about moderately difficult.

3) Potentially a controversial opinion since I've seen few people mention it but I personally found the OST very underwhelming which is something I considered a crime for a Mario game. I can only remember a small handful of tracks and while you can chalk this up to to the game still being brand new and they haven't had the time to burrow into my subconscious, I never experienced that problem with 3D World and Odyssey (hot-take within a hot-take but Odyssey had a really good OST, the problem with that games music quality is that it came after Galaxy 1, Galaxy 2 and 3D World which all had legendary soundtracks so by default it would appear extremely underwhelming).

If those three issues were fixed, this would have been a 10/10 in my eyes and easily my GOTY alongside Pikmin 4.

8/10 for me, solid enough but not perfect. Totally agree about the boss fights or lack of...
