Well, after a long wait it's finally here - no, we're not talking about Xenoblade Chronicles 3, the focus here is instead on Bandai Namco's new Digimon Survive game.
After a lengthy development cycle and multiple delays, the game has now been released across multiple systems including the Nintendo Switch. At this point in time, there doesn't really seem to be any reviews for the game online - with a lot of outlets only receiving codes now.
Our own Nintendo Life review is currently in the works, so expect to see it at some point in the near future.
Now, with that out of the way - let us know if you'll be checking out Digimon Survive this weekend. Vote in our poll and feel free to elaborate in the comments below.

I don’t play any of the 'Mons' I’m afraid, so I picked the last option.
Haven't gotten my order yet, it's likely gonna be the next major game I'm gonna play now that I'm done with the Live a Live remaster, probably gonna play something more action oriented in between to clean the palette a bit.
Given that it's been in Development Hell for years and nobody's got a review code, surely caution is the only sensible option? I like me some Digimon, but I'll be waiting for reviews with trepidation.
Plus, y'know. 150+ hours of Xenoblade 3 to work through.
Shame it’s taken so many years to dev and it’s 70% visual novel. I pre ordered but got told it’s out of stock, but my pre order is £30 and it looks like it’s gone up to £50 on eBay so if reviews are good I’ll keep it.
Aren’t you going to review the game so your readers could decide wether they will purchase it ? Go on, tell us.
@Friscobay Doesn’t seem like there are any reviews anywhere. I don’t think anyone got a copy so I guess their reviewers need to play it? Damn, never thought I’d stick up for Nintendolife. 😂😂😂
I am interested to pick this up at a later date. Xenoblade comes first and I do want to prioritise time for Live a Live afterwards. Unfortunately this seems like the type of game if you don't buy early the physical will go super rare so may need to dish out some money early.
Don't know if I will enjoy it more than the Cyber Sleuth double pack however.
Don't care about Digimon, never have, so that's a no. Very weird there's no "not interested" option on this poll, even though that'd probably be like 30% people's reaction.
No, not at all. It's a tedious visual novel.
I want a new World game.
@Moonsorrow999 oh so paid content isn’t there to create the demand ? My bad. I love optimized capitalism. I suppose it is readers « fault » we are getting 20+ xenoblade related articles per week yet should testify our interest when in comes to review something else…
@HenHiro Don't we all? Would love me a new world 😭
Eventually. I think it looks interesting and I am looking forward to your review. Being able to make decisions is a cool gameplay choice and I was told it effects the digitation of your Digimon.
I preordered and got it at launch because Bandai Namco physical copies don't always have the best availability. Won't be playing it till after Xenoblade at the very earliest though and there's a few others I'm quite keen to play too.
3 battles in 3 hours sorry im out. id be as well going read an actual book
Waiting for my pre-order. Wanting to get it after Cyber Sleuth.
@Friscobay It came out yesterday. They can’t buy it before it comes out. 😂
What on earth has become of all the reviews? None at all, like seriously?
Suspicious indeed.
Would love to give it a spin, but not if it is a big steamy poop of a game.
First I'm not fan of strategy and grind based movement where any Character or Digimon can permantly die. Second if I buy I buy on PC below 10€ including service fee. Third Digimon RPG Online (in 2010-2013 it was known as Digimon Battle Online) went Global again at 2022-07-23 15:30 (3:30 PM) UTC+3, so will be playing that one.
@Friscobay i mean, if you read the article, they clearly say:
“At this point in time, there doesn't really seem to be any reviews for the game online - with a lot of outlets only receiving codes now.”
Seems like the game might be a tad dodgy if critics are just now receiving their review codes (never a good sign). You surely can’t expect NLife to review a game that they haven’t had the chance to play yet? I feel you’re looking into motives too much when all the answers are in the body of the text and pretty cut and dry
Got it yesterday on launch day. A few hours in so far and seems decent.
Bandai didn't release a physical version here in france, available in amazon from other country but it won't be here before I leave on holiday next satuday, may be I'll found a physical version in portugal. If I don't found a physical, I'll wait for an eshop sale.
The questionable development cycle coupled with the lack of reviews makes me very hesitant to dive into this one. Then there is Xenoblade Chronicles 3 to get aswell once I make some dent into my backlog ... there's just too many games to play for me right now unfortunately
I was interested however after hearing that the game is majority a visual novel and less about game play I don't quite fancy it which is a shame
I'd like to get this - I've liked Digimon ALMOST as much as Pokemon since childhood - but the lack of reviews + the troubled dev cycle give me pause. I don't mind the VN/strategy combination, but I need to know about serious bugs and other issues. Supposedly there's some crashing going on with the Steam version, though users do have a fix.
Besides, XC3 will occupy my time for the next while...when it finally arrives.
@moodycat - This is about how I feel right now. Xeno 3 is going to be around for some time but I am already having trouble finding Digimon Survive in stores.
@Moonsorrow999 highly likely there's a review embargo, meaning reviewers can't publish reviews until a date specified by the publisher. Even metacritic seems to have no reviews yet - generally not a good sign when embargoes are set so late, but hopefully it's good!
Started early Friday and admittedly it's not what I was expecting. I've played many Visual Novel games before but they always had an even ratio of gameplay vs Visual Novel. Based on what I've played so far there is a LOT of dialogue. Still though I'm willing to give this game a chance however that being said I do feel the way they advertised this game was very misleading.
I'll probably wait for a sale. I bought Cybersleuth recently for about €8 on Humble so I'd guess this game will probably get a good discount eventually.
I really want it to be good. I’m currently playing SMT Devil Survivor Overclocked and it looks similar with its mix of VN and tactics gameplay. Apparently you also answer questions when you recruit Digimon. Sounds like SMT demon negotiation to me.
I’m trying to await reviews but if it comes back in stock I might get tempted.
I will get it, but on Xbox.
I would've but my preorder was sold. Now GameStop has to fix what they did.
@Moonsorrow999 review copies are provided before the official release date.
@MajorasLapdog This is why some selected games are getting first impressions, previews etc. Pretty cut and dry if you ask me. Also I’m talking about the differences in treatment of promotional content here. Cheers
wasn't there supposed to be a demo of this?
I wish they would make a new Digimon World that was more like the first game where they follow you around and battles happen in mostly real time haha.
I haven't played or watched anything Digimon related since I was a kid. It seems interesting though. But with Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Fire Emblem Three Hopes still occupying my free time I'll wait until this is on sale.
I’m actually more of a Digimon than Pokémon guy, so most likely
Well since they are releasing against XC3 and also are challenged by not having any games in stock to ship to retailers right now AND didnt supply anyone with review units before the release, is like a trios of failure for a game that could have had a chance in the market.
Digimon World on PlayStation One is still the nonplusultra. Also, its a Visual Novel. I dont understand why I should buy it if I could just watch someone click through it for me.
it's on the back burner for now to many games to get to first..
No. Not really interested in a Digimon VN with the occasional fight
XB3 is here too.
I preordered this game a while back and forgot about it but I will try it out. My eldest son is excited for it though so worse comes to worst I will give it to him, if I don't like it. I don't mind VN or strategy games (big FE fan).
Bandai: we have a new digimon game! Me: ooo sign me up! Bandai:it's a visual novel! Me: ....and I'm out!
Mine came mad early for some reason. I've been enjoying it
Wait, so this is a darker, more sinister take on Digimon..? Let this be a lesson to Pokemon how this ends up panning out.
It's a shame that xenoblade is overshadowing this game.
What if we take a monster catcher game and centralize it around the subpar story and with what little gameplay we do have make it a lazy shadow of what the genre should be?
-Bamco Probably
@Ulysses If you are interested in sinister dark Digimon, you should watch the new Season Ghost Game. Its pretty great.
I am getting it on steam but going to wait for my steam deck to arrive in the next couple of weeks.
@Poecifer It's not a subpar story and the gameplay is part of visual novel elements. You might not like it, but I for one love it as a Digimon and visual novel fan.
Already got it, playing it, and loving every moment of it. I'm not gonna let others spoil this game for me.
If it had English dub I would buy it now
If there was English dubs then ya but I get really really get annoyed that all the Digimon games only have jap voice, why not release eng dub as a free add on at least? Also annoyed me so much when they said Machine-Dray-Mon instead of Machine-Dra-Mon. Drove me bat crap crazy, when doing english dubs it’s best for it to be done like the tv show.
Interested it in later down the line. Just way too many games coming out now and in the near future to think about it. Xenoblade 3 made me almost forget about this game entirely.
Cyber Sleuth goes on sale for as low as $15-20, so waiting on a sale for Survive wouldn't be a bad move at all.
After learning it's a lot more VN than gameplay, I'll be waiting for a big price cut. Fortunately it's a lot easier to avoid Digimon spoilers than Pokémon - 1 minute after a leak or datamine and that stuff is plastered everywhere in your face to ruin the whole experience.
Was interested until I saw it's mostly just a read read game with tiny bits of battle thrown in.
Insta-buy for me! I'm loving the new unique 60/40 story/gameplay style. It's not just yet another turn-based grind 'em all battle strat 'mon clone, this really is something else. Great and inspiring story - we don't see enough of this, well done Bandai Namco, I'm lovin' it and wouldn't wanna miss out on this gem. Nevermind reviews, get it and make your own mind up about it, it's not what you might expect but it's a pleasant surprise.
I bought it (mainly out of fear that it will be a very limited) but haven’t played it yet.
I only care about the Digimon Story series.
Love the Digimon story: Cyber Sleuth game.
Hard no. Graphics look cheap asf
Digimon is more popular than I realized. I've never been interested personally, probably due to being an adult by the time the first game released
got this, i like the battles, hate the 20 min long cutscenes , they definitely rushed to bring anything out and it shows. but hopefully now that the base has been made we can get more grid fighters with less cutscenes
Love Digimon but this game's genre is not for me. I like Digimon to be action oriented, dynamic, fluid and animated. This game feels so... still, static, lifeless.
Deep price cut and I'll get it. Liked the Cyber Sleuth games a lot, but I'm not a visual novel guy at all.
