After drip-feeding us Pokemon Scarlet and Violet reveals for the past few months, today saw the release of the newest ScarVi trailer (yes, that's what we're calling it, sometimes in our best pirate voice), which promised to be packed full of new information to get us pumped and ready to explore Paldea.
While it certainly stuffed a lot in, we couldn't help but feel a bit like we were watching a person speak with their mouth full for three minutes. We finished the trailer feeling a little less AH! and a little more EH?
We think it's fair to say that a lot of this came down to how the trailer was edited. Come on, whose idea was it to put those cantered dialogue boxes so large and on the screen and for such a short time? Even the fastest readers among us struggled to keep up with what felt like a barrage of info.
That conveniently segues into the second editing issue we had regarding the amount of information being given to us without the opportunity to savour it. The three-path structure of Scarlet and Violet looked very interesting indeed, however, keeping these new ideas in our heads became difficult when the trailer was keen to move on to the next point.
Short and snappy is better than bloated and boring, sure, but we would have appreciated a little more time to absorb the information here. Our thought process, desperate to keep up with all the new details, became frazzled by the speed at which it was delivered. Ooo, storylines! Ok, Victory Road is still here. Wait, who's that big crab boy? You can send your Pokémon away now? Ok, really big crab boy. Baddy team on cars. Mega Man? Was that a whip on his belt? Ooo shiny diamonds!
To be clear, we're not saying that these features don't look good — there's a lot to be excited about here — but it has taken a good amount of extra research to get to a place where we now feel like we have a grip on what is going on. Doesn't that defeat the point of the trailer a little, though?
But hey, don't just take it from us. Maybe we got too distracted by the big crab boy. Perhaps the novelty of riding your Pokémon still hasn't worn off on us. What did you make of the games' newest trailer? A great round-up or a tad too rapid(ash) for your liking? Cast your vote in the poll below and let's find out whether that trailer really was confusing or if it's just us!
Once you've cast your vote, why not take to the comments with your thoughts on the new trailer? What are you excited for, what passed you by? Let it all out below.

Nah, it's just you..
I thought it was fine....but I also wasn't too invested
Seemed rather clear to me.
I didn’t feel any confusion while watching it myself. 🤷♂️
I thought it was for switch but it looks like it’s for gamecube, it was confusing indeed
It was definitely a case of things going by really, REALLY quickly, but it did make going back through it again to see what tiny things I missed feel pretty good. For example, TROPIUS IS BACK.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
It was very frantic. Almost like the trailer cutting speed was trying to compensate for the slow speed of the game.
@Cero Go back and look at Colosseum and Gale of Darkness, then come back here and correct your silly comment.
I mean it's not like the point of the trailer was to go over the nitty gritty details of the game. It was just presenting broad strokes, and in that regard, it was perfectly fine.
It was a bit fast paced, but it was pretty clear to me. It also helps that I usually check the Pokemon website right after the trailer to get more information, and made that a habit ever since Pokemon Sun and Moon.
I think that was on purpose, since they were trying to cover up tha they we revealing only three new Pokémon.
For me it was a normal trailer.
Well a lot of the detailed aspects listed above didn't come up in the trailer directly. Honestly I think it was quite a bit improved from the past few since they didn't spend a quarter of the time just on describing a single pokemon. Plus, it's a story trailer for an open-world game. Of course it's going to be a bit jarring at times.
@Fizza good catch!
Eh, it’s a trailer, and we have gotten so many at this point, it’s just extra syrup on my vanilla ice cream!
I can't really comment about the trailer, since I'm trying my best to avoid any and all promotional materials before release (aside from most things related to version exclusives).
I just can't get excited for this generation. Which is weird because Legends Arceus left me at an all-time high with Pokemon. Maybe I should just leave the main franchise on a high note.
It was quick, but it's not like they were showing off any major new elements. Street punk evil organizations, weird gym minigames, and random extra-large pokemon have all been more or less the norm since Sun/Moon.
I haven't been keeping up with the Pokemon games... I'm more into the cards
@Bret you’re right, for the hardware they were running on they were quite good compared to this
The trailer is definitely not for an old millennial like me. Too many headache-inducing quick cuts. It was like watching "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen." Killed brain cells.
Playing Temtem right now and I’m losing some steam on ScarVi. Refreshing to play a Pokémon game with some good ideas.
I personally didn't really excited after watching the trailer.
It was like watching the same things in Pokemon games all over the time.
It's because there's no voice acting, which makes everything seem weirdly quiet.
My hype for this game decreases with each trailer. I just want to see at least the second evolution of the starters.
@Bret "No no. He's got a point."
I didnt even know there was a trailer, I thought previous trailers have showed plenty about the game, enough to convince me not to buy it that is
Not invested at all. This looks horrible and those god awful bikes. Just wow
It seemed straightforward to me. What was there not to get?
The editing was bad, that's for sure. At least the three different story paths were easy to understand.
I understood everything perfectly. The stuff you couldn't read wasn't all that important. Just characters dialogue from the game. I think they were just getting authentic ingame footage so we have an idea of what to expect in the games storylines. But clearly that wasnt where they wanted your focus to be.
The trailer itself wasn't confusing. The only part I'm confused about was the part they didn't really show that well in the trailer, about Let's Go and Auto Battle mode. But I'm not even sure a trailer could do that justice, we need to see a live gameplay demo to really clear that up (why didn't they show that at PAX West again? They were there, and no SV demo).
I am only confused about Splatoon 3 having what seems more media attention than a new Pokemon.
Most successful franchise in the world and they can't implement voice acting. I spent my whole childhood reading through rpgs, it's 2022 Nintendo, hire some VAs!
@ChickenJoe well splatoon 3 releases in 2 days, maybe that's the reason
I mean in comparison of their gameplay trailers, or other similar things, but maybe it's my search results influenced by liking Splatoon and Pokemon, idk.
I had no idea what I was looking at most of the time. It needed to be a direct with play by play break down like the reveal.
I had to watch it several times over to find out what I was seeing, and I still didn’t understand everything until I watched a breakdown video. They didn’t even bother explaining the Let’s Go mechanic.😂
This continues to look very ugly and lazy. For a company that is swimming in millions of dollars a year, this is just unacceptable. But sadly, it's Pokémon, so it's going to sell more than it deserves and will get overrated reviews from mainstream game outlets.
All I got from that trailer is a growing rage everytime I see Koraidon running without using its wheels. Why even have wheels then?!
All the close-ups of text boxes were annoying. The text is big enough for us to read at its normal viewing distance, thanks.
Part of me feels they edited it in a way to avoid dwelling on the poor performance of the game in places. I hope not, though.
All I get from this trailer is Team Star is another red herring evil team and the true villain is someone else and I have a feeling it's that Geeta girl.
They just became so predictable with the games now.
Oh and I also noticed sections running at 10 fps again.

@Bret Chill. They don't look like gamecube games. They look like a weird hybrid between gamecube and modern games. The worlds and such present themselves as gamecube games, with long drawn-out and/or blurry textures and bland geometry for quite a few locations.
The character designs (human and pokemon) are on par with how they've been for the last 7 years or so, which is to say very good and in some cases just straight up unnecessarily detailed to the point of detriment to the game.
I'll happily admit that these new games look like a step forward, but when you look at other open world or even just large scale world games released through the lifespan of the switch, you would think we could expect a little more from Pokemon, yaknow?
Anyways, on the topic of the actual post... This might've been confusing if you're trying to analyze every little thing. As for me, I just kinda watched it with my pokemon expectation lens, laughed at megaman and moved on. If I end up buying the game, I'll just play it without trying to know literally everything beforehand

But aren't trailers are supposed to tease the viewer? ^^;
The fact that a lot of people are unsure or curious about what was actually going on, means the trailer did as it was intended to do.
Roll on November 18th. ^_^
