Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is less than two weeks from launch in the West, exciting news after well over a year of build-up. Nintendo, of course, will be unleashing a sizeable marketing campaign to push sales for the portable version, no doubt hoping it'll prompt some to also go for the HD version upon its release on Wii U.
Part of that marketing will be TV commercials, of course, and Nintendo of America has continued its strong recent run of fun adverts with its range of "Settle it in Smash!" videos. You can see three of these below — we have a group fighting over pizza, a huge muscular man flipping out to impersonate Donkey Kong, and an office-working dad summoning Little Mac to take on his kids.
We quite like these light-hearted efforts. Check them out below and let us know what you think.

Haha awesome
Those are the most awesome commercials for a Nintendo game I've ever seen.
I liked the first advert. Though, I assume by the time those four had booted up their 3DS's, started Smash Bros and played against each other, that slice of pizza would be cold. Shame really.
third one was best
Those are so hilarious. I love them.
Real life Doc Louis sealed the third one.
These are so good, well 2 and 3...
...Still doesn't beat 64's.
What the hell commercials are ye watching? I think these ads are awful.
Well, If that's how it works, then nobody will eat pizza ever again except for me... Anyway, the second and third are pretty funny ^^
Those are impressive commercials.....I have to think the 3 boys would be fighting each other to give her the slice of pizza and offering to go buy her more in hopes that she might talk to them some more
Awesome, now I hope that the Wii U commercials will be just as memorable and gets people wanting to buy a Smash Bros On Wii U and buy a Wii U to play ot if they don't own one already...
I went in sceptical came out a believer.
@Gerbwmu
That doesn't make any sense.
The commercials are alright. Scenarios like that don't really happen, but I get the idea.
@KodyDawg
It didn't make me want a sequel, but it did make me think of Photo Dojo.
Was I the only one who flinched when the girl snapped that 3DS shut in the last bit of that first commercial?
I was expecting facepalm-inducing stuff but those were actually pretty cool. Oh yes, when the time comes; my friends and I will definitely settle things in Smash!
Plot twist in the second commercial!
All I've seen here is a generic "fight using Nintendo characters" ad.
@Sadodi
You should see the smash 64 commercial.
Hm. I am not sure what to think. Kind of funny in a chessey way, which I'm usually fine with but I guess it's just that these are obviously aimed at kids. I don't really see this catching most 30 some year olds eyes. Instead it just comes across as a kids toy commercial almost..
Not a big fan of these childish commercials. <.< They make Smash look like a childrens game.. which children can by all means have fun and play it.. but I feel that many look down upon Nintendo because of these types of commercials. The first time I saw the one with the pizza, I was like, "okay." Now, looking back, I really do not like them. :u I just hope more children are influenced by the commercial to purchase Smash for 3DS so Nintendo can further increase their success from E3 and Mario Kart 8.
@Nintendo6400 The 64 one was quite funny. xD I remember seeing it when I was younger..
Best. Commercials. Ever.
I like that they have 3 different commercials, they must be planning on running them alot. And the "first time ever on handheld" line was a nice promotional emphasis.
As for the 1st ad being worse than the other 2 - Bring on the Nubiles! (I was going to link it but the lyrics aren't exactly family friendly.)
@TeeJay You're not alone.
I like these commercials except for the first one. The voice is almost as good as Nintendo's old commercials, wich is great.
Settle it in Smash!!!!!!!!!!!! good one Nintendo!
Nintendo UK made an ad too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPgupxx3ay4
I quite liked those
@Nintendo6400 I already have.
The third one is definently the one to see on TV the most.
Even the first commercial pointed out this game marks the series' handheld debut. Nintendo themselves realized how long overdue this is. And frankly, the fact Smash didn't debut on the DS five years ago is still beyond me, and keeps making no sense. Alas.
NEVERMIND, THIS IS FINALLY HAPPENING AT LAST
Eurgh too cheesy! I like the UK commercial better!
HAPPY 125TH NINTENDO!!!!
@SCAR392 - I'm not sure what doesn't make sense? It was a joke....maybe a bad one, but an attractive female talking to 3 teenage boys......the one in red actually gets caught in the commercial checking her out.
Can't wait to get the game on my blue 3DS XL!
The manly scream was awesome! Great ads
@AlexSora89 Unless they used sprites, the DS wouldn't even BEGIN to be able to handle a Smash game. The 3DS is being pushed to its limits as it is. Not sure what there is to not understand.
I really liked these ads. They were fun.
Feels like they would fit right at home on the TV even here where I live as well. Which is a plus. (Not that there will ever be any commercials for smash on TV here(not that i really watch normal television anymore anyway))
Love those ads! And @TeeJay no, you ain't alone. I mean...
Nintendo UK released an ad, and that one's cool and obviously more straight forward. SETTLE IT IN SMASH!
Terrify the people sitting next to you on the bus with a TORNADO UPPERCUT!
Wow, I actually like a Nintendo commercial for once. Glad I can say that!
Nintendo does some of the best ads.
Someone needs to make that manly scream in the bus commercial into a gif.
Also, "Settle it in Smash!" is gonna be a meme. I'm really feeling it.
I love those ads. I wonder how I'd feel if Little Mac's trainer was following me around...
I like 'em, but I have a feeling people will think these ads are cheesy, making them think smash is cheesy...
The only good part was the cute girl at the start of the first one. It was like watching an ad for Power Rangers toys otherwise
@Link506 Smash can be pretty cheesy.
First one is best because it has Mega Man.
I like the black analog sticks on the 3DS' in these trailers.
@Gerbwmu - I just thought the comment was kind of out of place. The boy that says no is probably supposed to be related to the girl. A better "joke" would be if their dog took the pizza while they were playing, then the girl runs after the dog for the pizza. That's what I think, anyway.
Wow fantastic advertising by nintendo...did we just go back in time to 1998? Seriously, these commericials are hyping and bring awareness of their product very well, but they should have included pacman, zelda, sonic and pikachu too due to their name recognition.
The are so 90s and kind of reflects the style of quirky Japanese advertising.
These are going to be effective.
These commercials are awesome and funny.
When Smash Club starts, I'll SETTLE IT IN SMASH! /shot
Wow.. At last it is more eye-catching than the one over here.
Just a mix of character trailers and ingame scenes, with the main theme playing in the background. I hope they change that again, like they did with MK8. First boring ads then more exciting ones. lol
Glad that this one is better than the Brawl commercial, but nothing can match up with 64
I love the homage to Doc and Little Mac in the third one!
Awesome!
Oh my god these commercials are freaking hilarious,better than having a family having fake smiles on their faces while playing a game they know nothing about.
Actually...that does sound like a pretty good way to settle arguments! Provided everybody has a 3DS and the game...
And was that guy at the beginning of the third one playing in an office? Yeah, that's not a bad idea at all...
I've gotta say, the thought of him yelling "TORNADO UPPERCUT!" at the top of his lungs with those old guys sitting around reading newspapers is pretty funny!
@WalupeachyTime
Cold pizza is pretty f'ing awesome. Specially if you won it over a round of smash.
@Gerbwmu I'm pretty sure they're supposed to be siblings...
@Nintendo6400 What's so good about that one, exactly?
This is how I settle everything with my friends
I saw the last two on Mtv earlier today and I was so confused. I think they were hilarious but they definitely caught me off-guard =p
The silliness of these commercials is everything that was right about video games in the 1990s and everything that gaming today is missing. It's silly, it's fun, and it's more than just "grit" and varying shades of grey and brown. Screw Call of Duty; let's settle it in Smash.
Loved the third one. These are well planned out.
"Settle it in Smash" is catchy and a great way to advertize this!! Great job Ninty
The only thing running through my mind watching that first as was how greasy those 3DSs must've gotten after they all touched that pizza. That's what I always keep my eating and gaming completely separate...
Question: WHY THE HELL AREN'T ANY OF THE OTHER US NINTENDO COMMERCIALS THIS GOOD!? Seriously, these commercials are just awesome! The only other US commercial related to Nintendo in recent times that I thought was good was the Kirby Triple Deluxe one
The third one was actually funny.
These are pretty funny, and I like how it shows adults playing too. Hopefully this will boost sales.
Also, that real life Doc Louis was the best part.
Granted they all were a bit cheesy, I did lose it when guy sitting in the bus started shrieking.
We need to do this for all conflicts. Arguing with your wife? SETTLE IN SMASH!!!! Someone took your spot in line? SETTLE IN SMASH!!!!! World War 3? SETTLE IN SMASH!!!!!!!
1: If this was how life worked then top tier competitive smash players would be Presidents
2: I can't be the only one who was hoping for a nod to the Smash 64 commercial
I love these commercials! XD the first and last are the best, IMO.
If you have a problem with my opinion... We'll settle it in Smash.
These are great commercials!
The kids and the pizza one works the best. The bus one seems a little too scripted with the "HEY YOU STOLE MY SEAT"
Overall though, very creative. I love fun Nintendo ads. These remind me of the GameCube years~
@Iggly
The First Rule of Smash Club...
"Something's gone wrong in the happy-go-lucky world of Nintendo!"
This commercial?
@Olaf No items, Final Destination, Fox only.
THIS is still the best Smash Bros ad...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u589Li2o-zA
I don't want that pizza anymore after all three of those kids GRIPPED that slice! Greasy 3DS's.
The catchphrase is catchy but the commercials, not so much.
1. Chick - "SETTLE IT IN SMASH!!"
Black Kid - "Wut...?"
2. My freggin eyes!!
3. HHhaahahaahahhhaa!
4. I have to congratulate you on making 3 amazing Smash comercials, then I have to say... "WHAT THE HELL WAS GOING THROUGH YOUR MINDS!!??"
Has Nintendo learned how to advertise now finally, the last ad was hilarious
Great commercials! I have to say if this had been out on gameboy I would have used smash to settle arguments with friends rather than pokemon as a kid.
Not bad. I rather like that third one, though I have no idea who that character is with the sword that gets punched away at 8 seconds in.
Either way, that one is the best of the three.
The best one is the one featuring Lil Mac
@AlexSora89
Smash on the DS would have just been Smash Lite. It would be surprising if it could do everything that Melee did. And Ice Climber AI issues aside, Sakurai doesn't like to step backwards.
Those are hilarious ahahha. I love that they still make these original commercials somewhere. In my country they only show some gameplay and trailers...
Punch-Out!! commercial FTW!
@123akis Not as good though
The third one wins, hands down...
@Whopper744 These ads are mostly playing on Comedy Central, MTV, and TBS, and I think even Adult Swim.
Doc Louis. All the way.
@Iggly that ain't Falco..
@B3ND3R You're right, I meant to say Wolf! /shot
THE PIZZA GIRL.
SHE'S FROM GOOD LUCK CHARLIE, ISN'T SHE?!
@Xiao_Pai I keep hoping that with the return of the series to its naming roots that Nintendo will make an updated version of the original commercial for the WiiU game. I would love to see Mario crack Pikachu in the face with a gamepad.
Every kind of argument or disagreement big and small should be settled with Smash Bros. matches. Survival of the fittest baby.
I love that guys' scream in the second commercial.
I approve of these commercials. Lighthearted and fun without be cringe (which given the nature of the commercials, you'd think they actually would induce cringe, but it walks that fine line beautifully and never makes you feel it at all). Even still, nothing will ever compare to the original N64 Happy Together ad, I still watch that one on youtube every once in a while.
@Iggly every time I see you post I want to go watch an episode of Nichijou..
@B3ND3R Lol same, it's pretty hard to resist.
@TeeJay
Yes.
Weak!
Haha and the girl wins as Kirby.
