Nintendo of America has been a little later than normal with its download update, but it's finally here. There are retro options on both Wii U and 3DS, free DLC and some additional new options on the portable's store; bizarrely, a couple of older titles have also been included. Throw in some substantial Ubisoft discounts and even a DSiWare comeback, and there are some decent choices. (Update: My Style Studio: Hair Salon is also now on Wii U eShop, not 3DS eShop as originally stated below.)
Missed the European download news earlier in the week? Put down that panic sign and check them out right here.
Wii U eShop
My Style Studio: Hair Salon (Cypronia, $4.99) — This was released last year on 3DS, but has now arrived on the Wii U. We'll take a look, and in the meantime you can read our 3DS eShop My Style Studio: Hair Salon review.
Wii U Virtual Console
Dr. Mario (Nintendo, $4.99) — The classic NES version of the puzzle game lands on the Wii U, bringing some retro "vitamin capsule" colour matching to the latest home console. It's the first appearance of this version on the Virtual Console (in North America), with WiiWare getting a fresh release and the Game Boy iteration landing on the 3DS; we felt it was a tough sell in our Dr. Mario review.
Wii U DLC
Sonic Lost World (Sega, free) — Following previous Yoshi-themed free DLC, owners of this Wii U version can now download The Legend of Zelda Zone at no cost. It promises Sonic in a Link outfit, cameo appearances from Link and a more open-world approach to level design. Did we say it was free? Yes, yes we did.
3DS eShop
Skater Cat (Teyon, $4.99) — If you like happy looking cats, this may be a game for you. Developed by FUN UNIT, this looks like a side-scrolling runner with 25 levels to take on; you can also exchange and race Ghost times through StreetPass and SpotPass, as well as race with your Mii. We'll see if it leaves us feline good (apologies) in our review.
I am an Air Traffic Controller Airport Hero Hawaii (Sonic Powered Co., $19.99) — There's a proper game title for you, seizing the crown as possibly the longest on the 3DS eShop. As it explains, you are an air traffic controller, and a hero, in Hawaii. We'll get to work in this air traffic sim for a review.
Cube Tactics (Teyon, $4.99) — Only Nintendo knows why it's listed this title again after its initial release two weeks ago, but we will too. We rather enjoyed it in our Cube Tactics review.
3DS Virtual Console
Clu Clu Land (Nintendo, $4.99) — This is an action puzzle game from the early days of the NES, in which you manoeuvre bubbles by throwing them around the stage. This can also be played with a friend, but the fiddly controls contribute to an underwhelming impact, as explained in our Wii U Virtual Console Clu Clu Land review.
3DS eShop Demo
I am an Air Traffic Controller Airport Hero Hawaii (Sonic Powered Co., Free)
Ubisoft eShop Discounts
Ubisoft has discounted 18 titles on both Wii U and 3DS until 31st March, check out all of the details here.
DSiWare
I am in the Movie (Moragami, 200 Points) — This looks like a rather fun app to make use of your DSi camera (or 3DS in 2D), in which you film yourself and then filter the footage with a variety of iconic movie effects. We'll practice our Oscar acceptance speech and work on a review.

Sonic DLC for days.
I love Clu Clu Land.
Commenting while the Sonic DLC is at 100%. Haha. That's my easy choice this week as well.
All the waiting for this? I thought real surprises were coming..Back to MH3U..on3ds and U..major time sink..
I'm playing Lost World right now for that DLC. Looks epic on epic levels.
This was an 'alright' week. Downloaded Splinter Cell 3D and got to try out Conception 2.
well.. April is coming soon
Why did it take longer than usual for the update to be announced today?
Nothing for me this week, but I am interested in the Movie DSiWare game. I'll await a review.
Just the free Sonic Lost World DLC for me I'm saving my money for next week when the Wii U gets GBA games.
Didn't Cube Tactics already come out two weeks ago?
@Luigifan141 I wish I knew.
@HeroOfCybertron Yes, I say that in the article
Wow. Can we please get something new for Wii U? At least next week we'll have some GBA games.. but I really needed something to tide me over.
Getting the Sonic DLC, its free so might as well.
Woof Nintendo. Just woof.
Going to pick up Cloudberry Kingdom since it's on sale for $7. Otherwise, big pass again this week.
I really hope April is better. I know Nintendo claims we are going to get GBA games, but when you see release weeks like this, it's hard to believe them.
I was hoping NA would of got Super Mario Kart like I think EU got this week
Probably nothing for me this week. May just get something off my wishlist or a game that's on sale.
Nothing for me this week. Advance Wars next week and a whole lot more for April / May means that I should save the money while I can.
Free DLC for me! Can't wait for the GBA games next week!
Dr. Mario??? How many more lame NES games are there?
Oh, also I might go for Skater Cat!
I wonder why Nintendo refuses to place demos on the Wii U? The are fairly plentiful on the 3DS.
I want skater cat, it looks like Bike rider DX and I love that game.
Airport Hero could be VERY fun, considering it's from the same series as Air Traffic Chaos for the DS. Definetly getting the demo today.
Sonilc Lost World Zelda DLC.... If Sega drops the game price.
Sonic DLC and Skater Cat. I will get the demo for that Hawaii game.
Sonic as Link! Awesome!
Wow... When was the last time we got new DSi Ware?
I've already been rockin' that sweet Lost World DLC. Legend of Sanic FTW!
I might get Clu Clu Land eventually. It's a nice little diversion and a part of NES history.
Hey - NINTENDO! Yeah You!!!
You want me to buy more from e-shop? Than keep the commitment to allow my Nintendo ID to be used between machines. You are pushing me to disks, which while slightly less convenient, are FAR more less costly .... and don't prevent me from having two Wii U's in my home.
I'm REALLY TIRED OF WAITING!
I need Sonic Lost World now.
I watched the I am in the Movie video on the eShop, and it actually looks really cool. Might get it, especially since it's only 200 points. The only problem is in the description it says you export images to your SD card, but it doesn't say anything about saving movies.
Nothing for me this week but I'll be all over Advance Wars next week! And some Superstar Saga. :3
Nintendo hates money and doesn't want yours, please understand.
I used to think our American cousins had it much better when it came to VC releases but not any more I don't. If EU gets the NTSC Super Mario Kart before the NTSC region then something is wrong. What is Reggie playing at?
Sanic and Zerda FTW
Oh goodie. As you guys FINALLY get a date for SMB3, now you'll be wondering "WHERE THE HELL IS SMK?!?" from now on....
@Angelic_Lapras_King
gasp No! Don't get them started! I'm actually liking the silence.
So what can a air traffic controller in hawaii do for me.
I already DLed Sonic's Zelda DLC. I want to DL I am in the movies, and a couple of Ubisoft titles before the sale ends.
Man, such a sucky week for the 3ds e-shop x-x
Nintendo, we 3DS users don't want worthless NES titles on our Virtual Console.
Please, try to release some more worthless GB/C games instead.
Excited about the Zelda DLC on Sonic Lost World! Will be getting that when I get off work!
I don't own Sonic Lost World and I already have Dr. Luigi. So, there's nothing interesting for me as of now. Can't wait for the GBA titles to come next week.
Sonic DLC only for me. Its a good excuse to pick up the game again. I've been avoiding it because of its overall mediocrity.
@ThomasBW84 I believe the Hair Salon update is because we now have the Wii U version. FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nothing. As usual.
Got the Sonic DLC. Very cute but real short and easy. This might be the worst week yet — nothing for either Wii U or 3DS.
@XCWarrior Good man. Anyone bemoaning this week who doesn't have Cloudberry Kingdom should jump at it while it's $7.
Well, that's it for March. The eShop Avalanche continues to be delayed. There were about 7 or 8 original eShop games I was looking forward to that were supposed to come out in February and March. It's a shame that all these games keep getting delayed. They were supposed to tide us over until Mario Kart 8 comes out. At this rate, Mario Kart will be out around the same time or even before they will, and then nobody will pay any attention to the little indie games. I appreciate that they're taking their time to make sure they release a polished product, it's just a shame they couldn't have come out sooner.
Maybe we'll have something next week to go along with the GBA games.
Hopefully this is the last lousy week for a while. With a strong April, along with a certain to happen nintendo direct, I bet we won't have to deal with this crap anymore or at least for a few months.
If I had sonic lost world, I'd certainly buy the dlc though.
Sonic DLC looks awesome.
Totally voted for Cube tactics...I got the game days ago, but it is good enough to deserve the extra mention.
@Everly
They can't put demos if there are no games. And no, I am not talking in the "NO GAEMZ" kind of way, really just check the release calendar in the past months, the wii u eshop is barely getting original games right now, and those kind of indie and small games are precisely the ones that populate the demo section in the 3DS eshop. When the indie promised avalanche of games finally gets released then maybe some demos start to pour.
@Everly Depends on the game. If it's a 3rd party, then that developer makes the demo, not Nintendo
Just bought Cloudberry Kingdom earlier. If you're into platformers I highly recommend it!
Europe gets 3 VC games and we still just get...1 Not cool NoA. Back to the PS3..
Clu Clu Land was a nice surprise(grabbed it), but I was hoping for Devil World.
Y'know, I think I'm gonna get I am in the movie. I've got a couple bucks just sitting in the eShop, and I'm already thinking up a bunch of cheezy video ideas. This will give me an excuse to get those aviator sunglasses I won back out!
'I am in a movie' sounds like drunk fun.
Maybe I'll pick up Cube Tactics, kinda iffy on it.
Um...you forgot about the hair salon game for the Wii U eshop
Um...not that I would ever download it
Anyone who gets Dr. Mario will be a fool when they realize that Warioware Inc has a Dr. Mario game with it, when it releases in April.
Sonic all the way for me. Love the concept, and nice to see it a reality for once.
@Shy_Guy Most of which we already had here. Point is a bit moot
@Kyloctopus Then there's also Dr. Luigi and Dr. Mario Online Rx...
I have to say, it's good to see a game with the name Mario in it for the VC this week. It's mostly been mediocre old sports games.... Though this is Dr Mario.... Oh we'll. GBA coming soon. I wish I had Sonic for the Wii U...
Won't be buying the GBA VC games until:
A) GBA VC comes to 3DS
OR
B) Cross-buy is implemented for each NNID so that I could buy the games now on the Wii U and then play it later on my 3DS.
Nothing for me.
[patiently waits for GBA VC to hit the eShop]
@Obito_Tennyson
See you next gen.
Well I can't say that this weeks update is not to bad at least for the 3DS. However Wii U is a bit of a different story. Since there is a bit of a drought for Wii U I went ahead and bought Darksiders 2 for just $20. The game is great. Now I will wait till next week for Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga.
@Zach You're absolutely right. I've updated the article, it serves me right for trying to multitask earlier.
Nothing for me money has already been for next month. :3
Lately these updates really are more on the depressing side than on the exciting one =(
@Ralek85 I suggest you really want to look forward to next week. :3
Has anyone else picked up I am in the Movie? I can't get myself to buy until I get a few more details, like how long you can record, how many effects there are, how well it works, how easy it is to use, etc.
That Sonic DLC finally convinced me to buy Lost World. Amazon tells me it'll be at my house sometime tomorrow. Let's see if it's as bad as the reviews say it is...
After seeing what the Playstation store offers every week compared to this garbage, well, this is garbage. Oooooh My hair style salon or whatever. 30 years of great titles and every week Nintendo mocks our loyalty with yes, more garbage.
how is rayman origins i was thinking about getting it i dont know if i should get it or wait for a rayman legends steam sale
@Ryno
theres more where that came from. at least we get to read all the funny comments every thursday!
April come on come already. I wonder how long it will take to get gamecube games hahahh. ( probably never ), bit we got gba on wiiu somebody better pinch me
Air Traffic Controller. Considering that I was probably the only person who bought the DS version.
How many weeks in a row does nintendo want me to say "nothing for me this week"? At least GBA releases are coming as well as child of light in april . Well , back to MH3U .
The calm before the storm.
Someone on this site suggested that Nintendo had basically written off fiscal year 2013, and that once the new fiscal year kicked in after March 31st, 2014 Nintendo would start bringing the noise. An interesting notion, and after reading the announcement of GBA games bombarding the system beginning April 3rd (only 3 days into the new fiscal year) and following every week after, I'm beginning to think he was right.
Nice timing on Air Traffic Controller Airport Hero. The Malaysian government practice with it.
@Nintenjoe64 Hey now! Europe needs some pampering too now and then Let us have this one!
@FeedingTheWheel Love your avatar dood! (Sakata Gintoki ftw!!!)
Free Sonic DLC - Because Sega does what M$/Sony don't!
@1337man1233 Definitely get the Wii U version of Rayman Legends, it's the definitive (and original) version of a fantastic game
Meh
Only took 37 comments until the SMB ones! Can't you add that as an option to the poll now! - thank yoU! Sincerely, those of us stuck with Reggie
@JaxonH I've read that in previous weeks, too, and have even repeated it a time or two. Kind of sad, huh? That 2013 seems to be treated as a wash regardless of what diehard, loyal fans experience.
After downloading the worst driving game I've ever played in my life (Race to the Line) it might be a while before I download another game again. however that Air Traffic Control game looks neat. I will wait and get some player reviews on that.
@sleepinglion
Well, I could certainly understand their reasoning if that turns out to be what is happening. I mean, it makes sense financially. Imo, 2013 "fiscal year" was fantastic though, as a gamer. I played so many great games I can't even count. So many favorites- in fact, I'm playing Zelda Link Between Worlds right now (got it in sleep mode while I type), and wow... seriously that game is WOW. And such an appropriate game to follow up my playthrough of DKC Tropical Freeze.
Now that Nintendo's finally bringing some goodies to VC, I hereby lift my embargo. Just went and grabbed Metroid, Kid Icarus, Kirby's Dreamland 3 and Kirby Super Star on Wii U, and grabbed all 6 3D Classics on 3DS, plus Super Mario 2 and Lost Levels. Still, I won't be fully satisfied until I have the SNES DKC trilogy on VC. Then, and only then, will I be fully satisfied. Although DS and Gamecube would really make my day...
According to the poll results, there's no love for the Hair Salon. My vote didn't even push it above 0%.
@Dreamz Nothing else to vote for, I gotcha back on this one there's that good ole 1% it deserves!
Just the Zelda Zone DLC for me. Free is the best price.
@JaxonH Right on! The 3DS Sega 3D classics are AMAZINGLY well done. I hope other companies were taking notes. You're right, there were some very stellar titles this year. I tend to focus too much on the VC because I love the oldies I grew up with. I see Nintendo's VC releases on each system as a way to preserve them, keep them going, and pass them along to the next generation of gamers. If I have grandchildren, I don't want them experiencing Chrono Trigger as a rom on their (whatever replaces the smartphone someday). I even have modded SNES, Genesis and NES controllers with Wiimote connectivity for VC usage. Having grown up with these titles the tactile experience is surprisingly effective. The new VC release schedule shows promise, if for nothing else than there actually BEING a release schedule =)
@Ryno we are going to continue to get the NES games for the NES Remix 2 at least until it comes out. Then hopefully we'll see something other than NES for a while.
@Yorumi They will give us good GBA games, once a month anyway. Quality will be there, but not quantity. But if it's not the genre you want, quality or not, you will be waiting a month for another game.
@XCWarrior
I'm hoping that's not the case. We know that (at least for the month of April) we'll be getting GBA games every week, and multiple releases per week at that. I remember Ninty saying they finally got the hang of converting games to Wii U VC, so I'm hoping this is the first fruits of their more efficient development...
@whodatninja oh sorry i should have specified. i was talking about steam for legends. i dont have a wii u i do have 3ds though
@1337man1233 In that case I would just get Rayman Legends, it's basically the first game but with more and improved content!
