I tried playing Legend of Mana on Switch (big fan of Secret & Trials of Mana as well as Evermore) and it’s the first JRPG in a while that I decided to give up on. Way too obtuse, directionless, disjointed & aimless as a game for me- but nonetheless it has a visually gorgeous art direction. This artbook, if anything, will almost surely be a looker.
The only thing I’d probably care about here is maybe the cosmetic changes to the Viola bike. But I def won’t be getting an amiibo to do it. Hopefully there’s still an option/unlock in-game somehow.
Seeing this art style just makes me want a new 3D Dot Game Heroes entry. That game was such a good top-down Zelda-like that had its own charm too. They should remaster/port it for Switch (2).
I always wrestle with starting with older games in a series (sometimes games were great in their time, but don’t age well) or playing the most modern or acclaimed entry first. Doing the latter with Dragon Quest XI S helped get me into the series and now I’m going back and working my way through some of the older entries too. But with series with extensive long-running connected lore, it becomes even a bit more tricky if you’re trying to keep up with all the story.
So yea I appreciate the guidance! I’ll definitely consider trying that entry and approach with the Trails series then once I clear more of my backlog!
Always heard about the Y’s & Trails series, but there’s so many games now I wouldn’t know where to start if I decided to jump in. This interview referencing 20 years of games & lore did not help in allaying those sentiments, but I enjoyed skimming it (to avoid spoilers just in case) nonetheless!
Guess I’ll continue to mainly stick with Square Enix, Atlus, Bandai Namco, Monolith Soft, Intelligent Systems, Konami etc. for my JRPG fixes. Cudos to Nihon Falcom too though.
Mario Party Jamboree’s base game is already amazing, but think I’ll pass on the separate mostly motion-controlled and additional peripheral focused Switch 2 DLC.
A differently focused Update/DLC would’ve been more appealing to me. Wish there were more Bonus Star Options/Criteria like in previous MP’s (Most Coins at One Time, Most Minigame Wins, Most ___ Spaces etc.). And while it’s nice they tell you what the Bonus Star will be at the beginning, I kind of wish there were like 2 more Bonus Stars who’s criteria remains hidden & random at the end of the game. Would make the finale still interesting whereas in Jamboree, you kind of already usually know who is going to win already before it even ends because of all the “knowns”.
Also, the 1-3 Dice Item is too nerfed if any other dice boost item can not only cancel it out, but also still retain its full boost value. Think those items should only cancel it, but then you just have a normal dice roll.
Also also, definitely need more non-motion Party Mode minigames. While the motion games can be cool, I still prefer playing with a pro controller- and it seems so does most of the online community going by how much easier it is to load an online match if you turn motion games off vs. keeping them on- but again then you sacrifice some variety potentially smh.
On a somewhat separate note, I also sometimes prefer the 1 v 3 or 2 v 2 minigames though, just because they actually have true losers. The 4 Player games reward too many losers with coins still… especially with so many coin games (with no real losers at all). Altogether I think everyone gets too rich too easily in MP with no real merit associated with said coin luxury in most cases.
How can you strategically stop someone from being able to afford stars or items if every minigame they still get a decent sum of coins pretty much even if they “lose” the game? Either change the payouts or up the prices in the game. Everything is too cheap and easily afforded tbh… not to mention items being handed out almost every turn in one form or another through lucky/item spaces anyways. Also, let me bet whatever I want in the 1 v 1 Duels in every mode/play style. Basically let’s raise the stakes, no soft coddling!
Overall though, great entry! Obv still wish for a couple more boards, party minigames & unlockables/achievements, but all the other modes kind of make up for it. I do worry about the long term viability of the online though with so many segmented online modes & options. Party Mode should always be the main focus imo. There are also too many minigames exclusive to non-Party Modes- which limits the variety a bit in the main mode.
Mario Baseball games are severely underrated. Still hoping for a new Mario Superstar Sluggers entry on Switch 2. After Tennis, I think Baseball might be the most fun Mario Sport series thus far.
More Mario Sports games or compilations are welcome in general (with deeper and more extensive content/modes/options than most of the current Mario Sports titles on Switch) i.e. Basketball (3-on-3 Hoops), American Football (it’s time!), Hockey (also time for a full game), Sports Mix … Punch-Out (w/ Mario Refereeing again) etc.
Recently got a bunch of the Mega Man & X collections on sale (they’re frequently discounted on the eshop) as I had an itch to play some throwback Blue Bomber and had a blast.
Mega Man is a strange “pillar” IP for Capcom in a similar vein of Metroid for Nintendo in that they’re each staples for their companies, the games are usually well-received.. but yet they don’t sell as much as you’d think or hope they should. Glad this entry keeps selling as 11 was an amazing good time!
Along with others here, I still adore Mega Man and would like to see:
Mega Man Legends (New Entry and/or Remaster/Remake/Collection)
Really hope they make a comprehensive, “Ultimate” version sequel- Clubhouse 102 Worldwide Games- with more & deeper Card/Strategy games, rule variations and match customization/randomization. There’s a lot of potential to deepen & flesh out the game even more. This is still my comfort game for quick bite-sized play sessions and it’s amounted to a ton of hours of play time for me now (it’s amongst my most played Switch titles all time).
Strategically, the game vouchers are only at max value when using them on 2 new full AAA price games as with older games- you might as well just wait for a 30% off sale. There won’t be as many new Switch 1 Nintendo games going forward with Switch 2 out and the vouchers are not applicable there… so with that in mind, they were bound to lose their value & utility on Switch 1 by default.
Like others I hope some sort of similar programs or replacements happen for the game vouchers & gold points on Switch 2, but I doubt anything will for quite some time.
Reminds me I need to finish Puzzle Bobble Everybubble! still (the art style, menus & aesthetic for this game all look almost identical to it). PBE is a fun game, but def has some challenging levels, especially if you’re trying to 3 star every one.
I’ll keep an eye on this, but contrary to some other comments here- Puzzle Bobble / Bust-A-Move > Bubble Bobble for me.
For better or worse, the world has been going digital for entertainment for a while now. This seems like a stop-gap measure, but don’t be surprised if physical completely goes away for games soon.
Personally I don’t mind much (as I’ve gone digital for quite a while now), but obv for consumers as a whole it’s always best to have more options.
Seems like my type of vibe and def my kind of art style. Still waiting for a new Blue Fire (super underrated). Looks like it needs some more time in oven, but will keep a watchful eye on this!
Wth is this? That trailer looked really horrible… and the screenshots too- The Raptors mascot looks like a red Barney the Dinosaur smh (Raps fans already have dealt with enough Barney jokes irl). Why is it so hard still to get a decent arcade-style basketball game on Switch (NBA Playgrounds games are subpar imo too)? It’s been almost a decade now and still nothing substantial released in this genre on the platform yet.
Basketball doesn’t deserve this… Can we please just get a new:
Mario 3 on 3 Hoops (from Nintendo and/or Square)
NBA Showtime/Hangtime (from a Midway successor)
NBA Give N Go (from Konami)
NBA Street (from EA [Big?])
NBA The Life / The Inside (from Sony)
Tecmo NBA Basketball (from a Tecmo successor)
Backyard Basketball (from Atari SA)
… quick fast and in a hurry please? Cuz this ain’t it.
Seems like a sleek & decent case functionally, however way too expensive for my liking. I’ll probably just get a cheaper Amazon equivalent eventually.
Also… I don’t see myself taking the dock anywhere unless I had a spare at some point.
Also also… curious if in lieu of the dock, the Switch 2 camera could fit in there.. not that I plan to buy it, but still just curious. I’m sure there will be other future peripherals of interest (Foldable Light Gun?, Vitality Sensor?, DS 2nd Screen Attachment?) that hopefully could also still fit down the line for that premium “all-in-one” price.
Briefly tried this once and I think I’m just over motion controls as a primary input method. Would prefer a new more traditional yet modern Punch Out! game in which I don’t feel like I’m “not playing as intended” while using a pro controller. I’m just not a fan of joycons overall really.
Square/Squaresoft/Enix/Square Enix/Squeenix is among my favourite game developers/publishers of all time and I love their return to supporting Nintendo with the Switch almost like they did in the SNES era.
Remasters and Remakes are cool, but I'd also like new games too. That being said it's nice that people who missed out or long to play modernized versions of classics on more easily accessible current platforms get a chance to play these gems.
As for my Wishlist of Square Remasters/Remakes and/or even better, New Entries? on Switch:
Threads of Fate
Vagrant Story
Brave Fencer Musashi
Super Mario RPG (new entry)
Xenogears
Final Fantasy XIII Collection
Bahamut Lagoon
Final Fantasy Tactics
Dragon Quest 1 - 10 (not the crappy mobile ports)
Mario 3-On-3 Hoops
Mario Sports Mix
Chrono Trigger/Cross/Break
Secret of Evermore
Ehrgeiz
Fortune Street
GO Games (i.e. Tomb Raider/Hit-Man GO)
Hopefully Square can keep up their current output (it's been pretty impressive tbh) whilst maintaining decent levels of quality (with maybe some even becoming new classics like their old titles of yore).. all while also satisfying their usual astronomical internal sales projections.
... yeaaa guess my head is in a Mallow Nimbus Cloud unfortunately with these wishes.
Ngl initially my morning brain fog read the article title as “Nintendo Appoints Doll as Company Executive”… and was just like, hmmm interesting move Nintie. Guess I need my herbal tea to wake up today.
It’s always interesting to see people argue about ‘value’, when the term is inherently subjective especially when it comes to evaluating entertainment products.
Personally, I primarily play games for fun & my enjoyment foremost- not necessarily just because of ‘how much stuff’ is packed into one game or another.
Does the BOTW total count the Wii U version’s sales too? Curious how many units of that version were sold.
Also, the large gap (~10 Million Units) between BOTW & TOTK sales is interesting. I know TOTK hasn’t been out as long and wasn’t the big phenomenon BOTW was at the time (and TOTK also costs 10 bucks more), but it’s still intriguing if that many people passed up on its sequel if they liked the first game.
Curious why is Daemon X Machina Titanic Scion always left out of these lists so far? I didn’t care for the first game much, but the sequel had one of the better & more interesting trailers in the Direct imo.
Ngl… as much as I love Square supporting Nintendo platforms with their AAA offerings again… these are the types of games I would play on the more powerful platforms rather than a Switch 1 or 2.
Nintendo, please give us proper new entries in some of your more neglected IP’s:
Punch Out
F-Zero
Star Fox
Kid Icarus
Wario Land/World
Pilotwings
Yoshi’s Island
Diddy Kong Racing
Mario Sluggers
Mario 3-On-3 Hoops
Mario Sports Mix (with more obscure sports)
Super Mario RPG
MOTHER/Earthbound
Golden Sun
Eternal Darkness
Fortune Street
... I'd also settle for a Clubhouse 102 Worldwide Game (with more & deeper Card/Strategy games, rule variations and match customization/randomization).
Tbh I’m sure I’ll love it whenever the next 3D Mario arrives, but I’d prefer a new big 3D Revamp of Yoshi’s Island, F-Zero, Star Fox or another Nintendo IP that has yet to have a big new 3D Open Wolrd game lately like they have done with Zelda, Mario, Kirby and now Metroid & Donkey Kong (finally).
We have had plenty of Mario games already this gen. Maybe time to give some other neglected IP’s some new life.
Nintendo ‘members things? Does this mean they also ‘member Punch Out!, Star Fox, Pilotwings, Kid Icarus, Golden Sun, Mother, Yoshi’s Island, Eternal Darkness, Captain Rainbow etc. too?
I’ve only played 2 Fire Emblem games, and while I think Three Houses was the overall better game… Engage’s OST is far more memorable and well… fire imo (special shoutout to all the Solm Battle Music). Really enjoyed it and was wondering if/when they’d add it to the Nintendo Music App. Nice!
An all-time great racing game. But also not at all easy iirc. F-Zero GX would benefit from rewind especially for the single player challenge & story modes. Wonder if rewind will eventually come to NSO Game Cube like how they’re adding it to the N64 app much later.
Also, Nintendo should let Sega make a new F-Zero or even F-Zero Adventures (like Star Fox) for a new twist and narrative/character/lore/world expansion.
First game I’ve preordered in a decade. Have so much nostalgic love for Power Stone & Project Justice. Kind of unfortunate they mixed Adventure Mode for Power Stone & no Rival Schools included, but that’s not enough to stop me from supporting these two Capcom series (in hopes we also get new entries soon).
Can we not do the Console Wars this gen? It got old 3 generations ago. Buy and play whatever you feel like and let others do the same. Happy Gaming everyone.
I’m just sad that this game existing (and likely not selling well) probably means we’re not getting a new Mario 3-On-3 Hoops anytime soon… Which is unfortunate as it’s one of my most wanted Mario Sport titles (along with baseball- Mario Superstar Sluggers) and the Switch doesn't have many arcade style basketball games smh.
As for this, while it seems like a cool concept- I’m over motion-control only games for the most part. Also agree the art style could use more colour and variety.
@Chocobo_Shepherd While I don’t find them visually too terrible, I too wish the Street Fighter art styles were more appealing as they were in their 2D Sprites days.
Think I’ll just wait for the inevitable Ultra Super Championship Arcade Tournament Edition that hopefully drops with everything maybe 3 years from now.
So over how most modern fighting games paywall large chunks of their rosters in general- even more so when they do it with known characters generally accepted as series staples.
I have faith this will be a great game. I just hope they also still have some traditional DK environments too (i.e. jungles, aquatics, snowy areas, mine carts etc.) to explore in 3D despite the story taking place underground. I’m also hoping the breaking of different rocks doesn’t become repetitively mundane after a while.
But will the reverse work too? Will Switch 2 controllers like the Pro Controller 2 work on Switch 1? I’m thinking of getting another pro controller and would rather just get the newest version if it will work with both systems.
C Today Button confirmed. This button will simply open the new Nintendo Today App on your console too.
All jokes aside I have low expectations for this button’s actual functionality despite all the hype & intrigue it’s been generating for some reason. Think it will be something pretty mundane or that I have little interest in, in actuality.

Nice!
Re: Video: Nintendo Today Gives Us Another Look At F-Zero GX For Switch Online
An all-time great racing game. But also not at all easy iirc. F-Zero GX would benefit from rewind especially for the single player challenge & story modes. Wonder if rewind will eventually come to NSO Game Cube like how they’re adding it to the N64 app much later.
Also, Nintendo should let Sega make a new F-Zero or even F-Zero Adventures (like Star Fox) for a new twist and narrative/character/lore/world expansion.
Re: Hands On: Capcom Fighting Collection 2 - Come For The Power Stone, Stay For The Project Justice
Re: PS5 Digital Edition Now More Expensive Than Switch 2 In UK & Europe
Can we not do the Console Wars this gen? It got old 3 generations ago. Buy and play whatever you feel like and let others do the same. Happy Gaming everyone.
Re: Round Up: The First Impressions Of 'Drag x Drive' For Switch 2 Are In
I’m just sad that this game existing (and likely not selling well) probably means we’re not getting a new Mario 3-On-3 Hoops anytime soon… Which is unfortunate as it’s one of my most wanted Mario Sport titles (along with baseball- Mario Superstar Sluggers) and the Switch doesn't have many arcade style basketball games smh.
As for this, while it seems like a cool concept- I’m over motion-control only games for the most part. Also agree the art style could use more colour and variety.
Re: Street Fighter 6 Releasing Final 'Year 2' Fighter Alongside Switch 2 Game Launch
@Chocobo_Shepherd While I don’t find them visually too terrible, I too wish the Street Fighter art styles were more appealing as they were in their 2D Sprites days.
Re: Street Fighter 6 Releasing Final 'Year 2' Fighter Alongside Switch 2 Game Launch
Re: Here's Why Switch 2 Joy-Con And Pro Controllers Don't Have Analogue Triggers
Team Analogue triggers over here. Wish they’d bring them back, especially for the Pro Controller. Not the end of the world, but still disappointing.
Re: Round Up: The First Impressions Of Donkey Kong Bananza Are In
I have faith this will be a great game. I just hope they also still have some traditional DK environments too (i.e. jungles, aquatics, snowy areas, mine carts etc.) to explore in 3D despite the story taking place underground. I’m also hoping the breaking of different rocks doesn’t become repetitively mundane after a while.
Re: Nintendo Confirms Switch Controllers Are Compatible With "Switch 2 Exclusive Games"
But will the reverse work too? Will Switch 2 controllers like the Pro Controller 2 work on Switch 1? I’m thinking of getting another pro controller and would rather just get the newest version if it will work with both systems.
Re: Nintendo Drops Teaser Video For The Switch 2's 'C' Button
C Today Button confirmed. This button will simply open the new Nintendo Today App on your console too.
All jokes aside I have low expectations for this button’s actual functionality despite all the hype & intrigue it’s been generating for some reason. Think it will be something pretty mundane or that I have little interest in, in actuality.
