I got 1, Ganondorf, just to have one for random Amiibo functions in games. Glad I haven't bought more as the functionality seems usually pretty trivial, unless you get the game specific ones. I do kinda want a Metroid one still though if I ever perhaps catch one out in the wild... indulge? Maybe I may.
I recently bit the bullet and upgraded to the Expansion Pack tier since my base NSO membership was renewing anyway. I gotta say I've been underwhelmed. For some reason I thought they added way more N64 games in the year since they launched that app. Also the NSO App emulator features have been subpar to begin with, but now there's no rewind on N64 either? Smh. And I have no interest in Genesis games, especially seeing as so many have been on every platform in multiple ways for generations now- would've made more sense if they asked Sega for Saturn or Dreamcast games since they're way less easily available.
I have been enjoying being able to play Pilotwings 64, Kirby 64 & Yoshi's Story for my first time though. And the couple DLC's are a nice touch even if most of the games I don't have or care much for (wish they'd add all the Smash DLC to the tier). But they need to do a lot more for me to renew at this tier next year. Game Boy line and/or Game Cube games would be a good start, but again it all comes down to there being more frequent & voluminous drops for each system and improving the emulators & features themselves.
"Konami Arcade Classics" for me would be their licensed beat 'em ups (X-Men, Simpsons, Bucky O'Hare etc.) and sports games (Give & Go / Run & Gun). They should bring those and/or new entries to Switch.
I do enjoy Mario Strikers somewhat as the core gameplay is pretty tight, but I definitely agree with many sentiments that it is very light on content. Especially moreso if you want more offline, single player content- without online the game is pretty much tragic as there’s not much variety or things to do/unlock/achieve. I mean even the slim stadium upgrades are locked to the online battle league silver coin payments and use which is silly. And you have to rebuy what you unlocked again if you switch to something else... such an archaic, puzzling, frustrating pseudo-unlockables system. Hopefully they add more modes, characters, stages, cosmetics, customization etc. very soon and not drip-feed content longterm.
Online matches being the main portion of the game can get pretty grueling as there are a lot of hardcore advanced players on there as I feel many casual players have dropped the game by now or don't participate nearly as much. Also, we need Pom Pom or the Kremling Kritter back as a goalie option cuz Boom Boom be letting me down constantly smh. Either that or an option to play/switch to a manual goalie as well. That could also go well for a penalty kick mode too.
Still waiting and hopeful for a new Mario 3-On-3 Hoops, Mario Superstar Sluggers & Mario Sports Mix on Switch that are more expansive & comprehensive than the previous Mario Sports offerings this far.
I'm with you kinda lol. But I like stories like these even if I may not quite understand how it all comes together technically. I respect the craft, creativity and ingenuity to make the most of something within limited constraints. Makes for some great, unique gaming experiences a lot of times.
sigh… Listen Ninty (Navi Voice), I would literally gladly pay $100/year for a comprehensive & extensive Nintendo Virtual Console Online Subscription Service (basically like every other popular streaming/subscription service currently) if Nintie would just give us all the platforms + catalogues we want on competent legal proprietary emulators i.e. with rewind, fast-forward, turbo, more save states, downloadable/uploadable/transferrable community shared saves, cheats, scanned game manuals, multiple suspend play, custom button-mapping, online netplay with crosschat, lobbies, invites, filters, borders/themes and/or widescreen adaptation etc... most of which is already included in some notable free emulators out in the wild for some time now. It would be better if this was all contained in one giant categorized “Nintendo Switch Online Archives/Virtual Console App” as well, rather than segmented with separate apps for each platform.
Nintendo has such a beloved and cherished archive of gaming history... yet they either neglect it, withhold it or give it little TLC. C'mon pick it up and get it together with the NSO service quick, fast and in a hurry please Nintendo!
What's old can be new again though for some and in some cases brand new for others. Great experiences shouldn't be lost to time especially if they can be easily preserved and improved upon for whomever chooses to indulge whenever they so choose. I personally would've missed out on so many classic games that came out before my time or I could afford or appreciate them fully. Ultimately those experiences drove me to be interested in similar titles in the future so idk if I wholly agree with Miyamoto's/Nintendo's sentiment or approach in this regard. Get everything officially digitally preserved Ninty, you only have to update it every so often.
Sooo now how about making Sonic Adventure 3 then? I really want to play as Knuckles & Rouge in those exploratory stages with awesome jazzy/ambient/rap music again!
@timwright42 Cool good to know. I'm still excited to give Inscryption a try regardless!
And nope, I haven't played nor heard of Monster Train until you just brought it to my attention. I've never really been into card deckbuilding games- I just happened to try Slay The Spire long ago when I had PS Now and it got added. I got hooked instantly and ended up getting it on Switch on a nice sale. Can't see myself taking the same plunge on Monster Train currently at $40 CDN tbh however. Maybe if I see it on a significant sale sometime. Appreciate the suggestion though!
Golf Story was decent fun. Already having it as my golf game (as well as golf in Clubhouse Games), albeit admittedly minimalist in terms 'golf games', is what kept me from getting Mario Golf Super Rush when it came out... and I'm glad I stuck with that reasoning- since Mario Golf was minimalist and lite on content itself. I’ll keep my eye on this one for an impulse sale buy most likely as I have enough in my backlog atm.
Been waiting quite a while for Rogue Legacy 2 to come to Switch. The first game was one of my first entries into the Roguelite genre and I was hooked. Looking forward to trying this out once I clear some more of my backlog!
Blue Fire is awesome (it’s like a 3D platforming Hollow Knight lite). The base game in and of itself was more than enough, but then the free “Void of Sorrows” DLC that dropped around this time last year was an amazing bonus treat I had fun returning to.
Now this too! I’ll check out this “Void Maker” DLC randomly at some point (to play levels, I’m not a level creator myself in games usually), but I’m honestly just as ready for another game as well. Seriously one of my fave indies of recent past and I’m happy for more of a good thing. Would love to see what the developers make next.
Well a new job has been kicking my butt and taking up most of my time lately, so I haven't gotten around to playing as much as I'd like, however I've been getting into Pilotwings 64 and Mario Party's 1 & 2 on the N64 NSO App for some good quick fun.
As for full games I've finished Tales of Vesperia DE, including all
the sidequests and 1 of the 2 postgame dungeons now, and I'm wondering if it's worth doing the last EX dungeon- the "Necropolis of Nostalgia" which is basically 60 repetitive floors of the same environment or about 6 hours or so of game time with limited savepoints from what I hear/read. I may just be done with this JRPG at this point and move on, it was a good run and fun time.
For the next while, it's looking like short bursts of N64 NSO (Pilotwings 64, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, Yoshi's Story- my first time playing each), GRIS then Ender Lilies and eventually Xenoblade DE are up next for me. Happy Gaming y'all!
I’m fine with either or.. I trust Nintendo to be captivating, innovative and inventive enough to make 3D Mario great as they have so many times consistently in the past already.
But tbh what I really want is a true New Super Mario RPG. Could even perhaps be a story prequel or sequel to the movie if they must to tie it all together and could boost each other financially.
These Game Trials are way to short & infrequent. By the time I find out about them, they’re usually almost already over. Anyhow this looks mildly intriguing.. I’ve always thought I’d be kind of interested in a 3D Among Us type of asymmetric gameplay.
Soul Calibur II was 🔥. IMO, it was one of the first major fighting game series to do the IP crossover fighters that are now so commonplace in the genre and generated a lot of interest by doing most of them well/justice. I haven't played much of the series since.. so HD Remaster or new entry on Switch please!
I need my own fully equipped and capable Mario Kart to use items such as the "Bullet Bill" and/or "Starman" to escape/zoom past daily dreadful, annoying, life-sucking traffic congestions expeditiously.
I've never played any of this Quintet series (so many great RPG's in the Super Nintendo era that I missed these), but I've heard/seen a lot of praise and clamoring for Terranigma, especially of late. Would be cool to get an HD-2D Remake and/or a Remastered Collection for Switch..
..or you could just throw them as-is onto the NSO SNES App. I mean it's not like Nintendo has been bombarding the service with titles in quantity, quality nor frequency smh.
Like others already mentioned, I think it would be nice to get some new classes and a better connective story. I also thought (again to mix things up) they'd switch the naming of the characters to coincide with "Traveler" for the sequel.. seeing as that also has 8 letters. Overall though I'm still super excited this is coming and so soon!
Btw, there still could be new/more classes. Octopath 1 had a bunch of secret classes later in the game that really spruced things up imo.
Nah remember the Kinect and Kinect Sports? I never had one but 'I 'member'.
Btw Pawapuro/Power Pros and also the Backyard Sports series > this.
Sidenote: I actually think the Kinect technology in gaming was underrated and should come back moreso for it's voice commands and gesture recognition. Could lead to some innovative gaming experiences.
What is art and what makes art 'art' lol. This is some sci-fi Ex Machina, Blade Runner, Ghosts in the Shell etc. (some of my favourite movies/series) themed/philosophy type of discussions. It leads to and goes along the lines of larger scientific opinions, debates and conversations..
What is a soul, What makes humans 'human' or unique, Is memory just like any other 'data', What is real, Can AI advance and learn to become indistinguishable from a homo sapien, Will humans merge with AI completely, Do we want that, Is it in our best interests, Is it safe/smart, What about inherent programmer biases (both conscious & unconscious), Should we limit AI advancement & utility, Is it inevitable progress etc.?
I have no definitive opinion either way, but I like observing the debates. Just hope the future is bright for all of us.
Only physical MyNintendo Reward I've ever ordered with my Platinum Points were the keychains. Was well worth paying for the shipping. Still have my Mario Kart & Star Fox on my car keys.
Useful, cool, stylish, unique cosmetic rewards are the best. Wish they did more like in the Club Nintendo days.
Well deserved. Honestly the game was great and at the perfect price point imo and that's what also led to it's success. If they charged any more I probably would've waited for a sale then likely just forgot about it and got the Cowabunga Collection on sale instead.
Hopefully this success inspires a resurgence & renaissance of cool, fun, licensed arcade brawlers updated and coming to Switch with modern features (X-Men, Simpsons, Bucky O'Hare, Die Hard Arcade, Battletoads)... basically call some license holders/devs/publishers to get some more ish made!
Welp, I finally rolled credits on Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition. Thought I'd be done with it, but now there's 2 post-game dungeons to peruse.
So I'll do that then likely take a short JRPG break (my next will be, at last, the massive mammoth that is Xenoblade Chronicles DE), probably starting Ender Lilies & GRIS as my next games. Definitely not getting to all of that this weekend alone though lol no way. Happy Gaming y'all.
.. just a truly a phenomenal soundtrack that really compliments the look & feel of the game (It's one of the few in constant rotation on my Apple Music). Love when games have a smooth, funky, jazzy, chill vibe to them and yearn for more.
Well the first entry was a delightful surprise of a once thought strange crossover. I got the Gold Edition on a heavy discount wayback and finished the base game... but didn't go back to play the DK DLC until the Pandemic which was a nice treat as well- although much easier than some parts of the main game. I really enjoyed the experience (and I'm not even really into SRPG's or RTS's).
That game had great polish and it's own charming vibe. Maybe this will inspire Nintendo to lend out more of their cherished (perhaps more neglected) IPs to capable developers, especially if they're not doing much with them or their plates are full with other things.
However just like I did with the first game, I can wait for one of those significant Ubisoft sales to pick up this second entry up in the coming months!
This gives me many Sparks of Hope! And as we know..
She made her own decision, the company made their's... what does that have to do with everyone else's individual personal decisions? Is she gonna boycott every industry/service/product for every underpaid, disgruntled employee out there? Better yet, what about all the employees who worked hard and were perhaps happy with their work at Platinum? Should they not be supported? Also, boycott so an IP fans like doesn't perform well which in turn potentially affects the future of said franchise? Not sure if that's a prudent approach.
More power to her to try to get paid more, but unfortunately in a capitalist system this comes with it. She was not forced to do anything from what I understand. She had the freedom to walk away from what she deemed was a lowball offer, just as Platinum was not obligated to oblige her wishes and decided to move on.
I hope she gets the pay she feels she deserves though somewhere else eventually even after all this hoopla!
Persona 5 base game on PS4 was my first and only foray into the series and it was an unquestionable joyous pleasure. As it seems is the case with a lot of other Atlus offerings the game is split between two genres, this time- JRPG & Life Sim. Also the case with many Atlus games, Persona 5 just oozes endless style, flare, polish and pizazz. The visuals, music & content are all phenomenal.
My only small issues were really the amount on missable content due to the calendar and limited time for events as well as some unnecessarily repetitive & long dialogue and/or conversations about obvious story beats (even though it's well acted)- as I often just found myself wanting to get back to playing more. However, nevertheless and needless to say I loved it. Definitely one of, if not the, best of modern JRPG's and deserving of the perfect score imo.
I shan't get this version, but I can't wait to finally be able to play Persona's 3 & 4 on Switch in a couple months!
I don't know what to make of this in totality without more information and hearing from all involved parties in more detail, but her claiming the new voice actress has "no right" to claim Bayonetta as her character now too is where she lost me a bit. Everyone can make their own personal decisions for themselves independent of other involved parties situations.
Other than that, I'm all for companies paying working people more. Living/Reasonable wages are getting further and further out of reach as time goes on and living costs increase along with inflation. I understand that affects corporations bottom lines and costs too, but amidst enormous profits, luxury & excess at the top of the financial hierarchy... the wage & wealth gaps could do with some shrinking.
Btw there's also already been a few pretty decent Nintendo animations before:
Star Fox Zero - The Battle Begins
Kid Icarus: Uprising Anime Shorts
F-Zero: GP Legend
Kirby: Right Back At Ya!
Super Mario World
The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3
Donkey Kong Country
Captain N: The Game Master
Pokémon
.. just to name a few. Nintendo could really also just do it themselves as a lot of their games have short-form top notch animation/CGI clips for their properties already.
I prefer more anime animation studios mostly- Production IG, Wit Studio, Madhouse, Studio Bones, Sunrise, Studio Pierrot, TMS Entertainment, Ellipsanime, Fortiche etc.
But let's be honest... as a gaming company whole, Square Enix's music catalogue is above all others. Now that would be a real challenge to pick the best track. Long live original gaming music pieces!
These are some of the most random selections, but all I know is the Wii Sports Theme is basically the "National Anthem for Gamers"... all rise! It defined a whole gaming generation and still slaps to this day!
*Either that or the Wii Shop Channel music.
P.S. Please bring some jazzy tunes to the Switch Eshop Nintendo.
Best demos on Switch in my experience so far have been:
WarioWare: Get It Together
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity (wish they had one for the original too)
Octopath Traveler
Trials Of Mana
Clubhouse Games- Guest Pass
*Honourable Mention: the Game Trial for Captain Toad Treasure Tracker (I was actually able to finish that game in a week, just before the trial expired by committing to doing 5 or so levels a night)
.. Hope Nintendo and others continue to put out substantial demos of AAA games where progress carries over into the actual release.
@GuyProsciutto Haha no worries. I could see how it might get a bit tiresome for some, but tbh it's not that deep for me. It's all in good gaming fun. I was actually inspired by @BloodNinja 's "NINJA APPROVED" tagline wayback when I joined this site- cudos to you Ninja! I think signatures are a nice personal signoff. In any case, I'd just ignore it if I were you to avoid feeling such feelings.
... Wun can only hope... that's not too bothersome of a tactic for you. 🙃
@blindsquarel Agreed and appreciate it!
@Tandy255 Good to know! I might just pick it up! I've actually been playing more puzzle-esque games on Switch as of late (i.e. Manifold Garden, Portal Collection, Part-Time UFO, Gorogoa- all of which I'd also recommend). Thanks!
That was absolutely lovely and absolutely a labour of love. I could see @Ziondood bound to be warmed by this tribute!
Also I was today years old when I finally learned what these amazing captivating technical contraptions were actually called- Goldberg Machines. Thanks!
I wonder how long and how many attempts it took to create just this short clip. Would be great if they could do more series!
Metroid Dread wasn't bad, but it was pretty meh & uninspired imo given how many Metroidvania's there are now and the numerous interesting takes there have been in the genre since 2D Metroid was the flagbearer. Hollow Knight, Cave Story, Ori, Rogue Legacy and heck even Dandara (among others) were more interesting to me than Dread. About to start Ender Lillies soon too.
That being said I can't wait for the return of 3D Metroid with Prime 4 and still hope Metroid Fusion & Zero come to Switch in a Game Boy NSO App soon.
Wario & Waluigi are not gonna like giving up some of their precious coins, but good win for the employee up against an intimidating corporate behemoth like Nintendo with crazy resources. Do better Nintie.

Re: My Nintendo Japan Adds Themed N64 Merch - Shirts, Mugs & More
Only physical MyNintendo Reward I've ever ordered with my Platinum Points were the keychains. Was well worth paying for the shipping. Still have my Mario Kart & Star Fox on my car keys.
Useful, cool, stylish, unique cosmetic rewards are the best. Wish they did more like in the Club Nintendo days.

Re: Pilotwings 64's 'Birdman' Stage Is Significantly More Stressful On Switch
Nothing is stressful anymore with these older games when you have save states.
The N64 NSO App really should have rewind like the other apps too though (along with numerous other popular emulator features to say the least).

Re: TMNT: Shredder's Revenge Helped Publisher Dotemu Net A Bodacious $22 Million In Revenue

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 22nd)

Re: Here Are The Top Five Persona 5 Royal Music Tracks According To Atlus
Beneath the Mask is the standout of standouts for me- especially the Rain version. Overall my Top 5 Persona 5 tracks would be:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zolprSYbAik&ab_channel=BrandonBlack
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjEj0suAz7o&ab_channel=Pollux
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GBciQVf_PI&ab_channel=AbsurdOrpheus
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnKgd7Mw9S8&ab_channel=Call_Me_Makoto
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDw6xxIErK4&ab_channel=ZappahVideo
.. just a truly a phenomenal soundtrack that really compliments the look & feel of the game (It's one of the few in constant rotation on my Apple Music). Love when games have a smooth, funky, jazzy, chill vibe to them and yearn for more.

Re: Review: Mario + Rabbids Sparks Of Hope - Creativity Trumps Challenge In This Delightful, Divergent Sequel

Re: Talking Point: Given The Voice Artist Controversy, Will You Be Boycotting Bayonetta 3?

Re: Review: Persona 5 Royal - Finally On Switch, This Is The Very Definition Of Essential

Re: Bayonetta's OG Voice Actor Asks Fans To "Boycott" Third Game After PlatinumGames Wage Fallout
Caught in 4K.

Re: Games Like Zelda - What To Play After You've Finished Breath Of The Wild
Okami is in my Top 10 games of all-time, so yes play it.
Top great Zelda-likes imo:
.. I still have to play Blossom Tales 2 & Tunic, which I will at some point.
Also the best, most Zelda-like to me is 3D Dot Game Heroes by far and away, but it's not on Switch (and it needs another entry!).

Re: Talking Point: Which Animation Studios Should Tackle Nintendo's Other Franchises?
Btw there's also already been a few pretty decent Nintendo animations before:
.. just to name a few. Nintendo could really also just do it themselves as a lot of their games have short-form top notch animation/CGI clips for their properties already.
... Wun can only hope.
Re: Talking Point: Which Animation Studios Should Tackle Nintendo's Other Franchises?
I prefer more anime animation studios mostly- Production IG, Wit Studio, Madhouse, Studio Bones, Sunrise, Studio Pierrot, TMS Entertainment, Ellipsanime, Fortiche etc.
Also series > movies.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Piece Of Music In A Nintendo Game?
Also there's not enough Game Boy representation on this list for me. 2 songs that always pop in my head randomly are:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20mS5CcZGQU&ab_channel=AlbirdVampPrinceMK2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGqRaAZdEuY&ab_channel=wildfremd
But let's be honest... as a gaming company whole, Square Enix's music catalogue is above all others. Now that would be a real challenge to pick the best track. Long live original gaming music pieces!

Re: Poll: What's The Best Piece Of Music In A Nintendo Game?
These are some of the most random selections, but all I know is the Wii Sports Theme is basically the "National Anthem for Gamers"... all rise! It defined a whole gaming generation and still slaps to this day!
*Either that or the Wii Shop Channel music.
P.S. Please bring some jazzy tunes to the Switch Eshop Nintendo.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Demos - Try Before You Buy On Switch eShop
Best demos on Switch in my experience so far have been:
*Honourable Mention: the Game Trial for Captain Toad Treasure Tracker (I was actually able to finish that game in a week, just before the trial expired by committing to doing 5 or so levels a night)
.. Hope Nintendo and others continue to put out substantial demos of AAA games where progress carries over into the actual release.
... Wun can only hope.
Re: 'Try Before You Buy' eShop Sale Offers Biggest Discount Yet On Metroid Dread (North America)
@blindsquarel Agreed and appreciate it!
@Tandy255 Good to know! I might just pick it up! I've actually been playing more puzzle-esque games on Switch as of late (i.e. Manifold Garden, Portal Collection, Part-Time UFO, Gorogoa- all of which I'd also recommend). Thanks!
Re: Random: This EarthBound-Themed Rube Goldberg Machine Is Packed With References

Re: 'Try Before You Buy' eShop Sale Offers Biggest Discount Yet On Metroid Dread (North America)
Would anyone recommend Box Boy + Girl? I'm on the fence if I'm interested or not.
Re: 'Try Before You Buy' eShop Sale Offers Biggest Discount Yet On Metroid Dread (North America)
