Re: Talking Point: Is The Golden Age Of Licensed Music In Games Over?

wuntyme8

Licensed music can be cool, but anything licensed is usually just for the moment or a certain time period contractually (which expires after some time)- this often makes this part of re-releases, remasters or remakes troublesome legally down the line (i.e. GTA Remasters, Sonic Origins etc.).

That being said I don’t think it’s going anywhere. Gaming is huge while still growing and the music industry crossovers or contracted work is only becoming more of a staple (i.e. Fortnite in-game concerts, Streaming, GTA, Sports Games Soundtracks, TMNT Shredder’s Revenge- Wu-Tang Final Boss theme, Pokémon Promo- Ed Sheeran, Post Malone, Katy Perry all making Poké songs etc.). Basically there’s business & marketing to be done and benefited from on both sides in a lot of instances so it will continue.

Honestly though, I’m more than fine with predominantly new and/or original works in games or anything that is owned by the publisher or developer indefinitely to prevent these potential hurdles and preserve games as they were as much as possible for future re-use.

Re: Community: Found A Great Switch Game We Didn't Review? We Want To Know

wuntyme8

Rogue Heroes: Ruins of Tasos got some coverage, but I'd like to mention I really enjoyed that game as a Zelda-like rogue-lite.

There's a bunch of titles I've come across in the Eshop that are intriguing, based on box art & limited screenshots (reminds me of back in the days before the internet when box art made or broke a potential game sale sometimes- due to more limited or hard to get information then).

I'm interested in learning more about Skycadia for one. Looks like a SNES Star Fox type-like.

Re: Critically Acclaimed 'Inscryption' Gets Rated For Switch

wuntyme8

Great news. Yet another title finally off the list of Switch port wishfuls.

Admittedly it’s a reach, but I’m still hoping for more info and/or announcements on or of the following coming to Switch in a another Partner Direct:

  • Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters Bundle
  • Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis
  • Echoes of Mana
  • Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent
  • Rogue Legacy 2
  • Sable
  • Rollerdrome
  • Bomb Rush CyberFunk
  • Mina the Hollower
  • WrestleQuest
  • Oddventure
  • Stray
  • Season: A letter to the future
  • Restless Soul
  • Unsighted
  • Alterium Shift

.. Granted some of these may or may not be considered “Indies” per se, but they’re mostly partner digital offerings.

… Wun can only hope!

Re: Community: 24 Switch Games We Missed, As Recommended By You

wuntyme8

I really like when you guys highlight some hidden gems as the Switch Eshop is overloaded and horrible/tedious to browse and sift through the swath of titles on there.

Of these the selections that intrigued we were:

  • Anodyne 2: Return To Dust
  • Super Sami Roll
  • Goblin Sword
Honourable Mention: Petal Crash (Not the game, but that trailer music was my type of trancey funky Sonic R vibe)

I'll probably wishlist these and perhaps pickup on sale sometime to add to the never fully addressed backlog.

... Wun can only hope.

Re: Random: Hideki Kamiya Echoes Every Nintendo Fan's Wishes For The Switch Successor

wuntyme8

I think we can rest assured the Super Switch will also be a hybrid console. As for his comments, I primarily by a longshot play docked on a TV, whether in bed or on a couch. So I have no problem sitting or lying down playing Switch.

Honestly, I hope the next Switch really is just an upgraded dock that enhances the capabilities of the console unit- similar to an Expansion Pak ironically. I'm happy with the Switch and wouldn't mind extending it's shelf life many more years. I don't really care to get a whole new console at this current time or near future.

Re: Random: Persona Composer Would 'Love' To Write Music For The Legend Of Zelda

wuntyme8

Persona 5's soundtrack is so goated that it's one of the few actually in full rotation in my Apple Music library.

However, I'd like to hear more of those type of funky jazzy vibes in a new Mario, Sonic Adventure, Street Fighter, MvC, Mega Man X Command Mission, Jet Grind Radio, Robotech: Battlecry, Trauma Centre and/or Catherine games though over Zelda.

... Wun can only hope.

Re: Backlog Club: Portal 2 Made Me Feel Clever, Despite My Minor Case Of Serious Brain Damage

wuntyme8

Finally played both Portals with the Switch release and I gotta say Portal 1 is amazing. It’s a much more clear, concise & focused experience imo. Portal 2 is good, but not as great as the original due to the somewhat cumbersome non-chamber exploration parts for me- however it does a great job of expanding the narrative. I’d absolutely love a 3rd entry in this series.

As for my personal backlog- once I finish Tales of Vesperia DE it’s on to Xenoblade Chronicles DE finally… with a side of GRIS.

Re: Best Paper Mario-Likes On Switch - Games To Play If You're Pining For Old-School Paper Mario

wuntyme8

Chicory is still in my backlog. Feels like a game I'll get to while traveling sometime as I think it might be better suited in handheld mode- perhaps painting using the touchscreen rather than docked with a pro controller as I primarily play.

A good "Paper Mario-like" (in gameplay, not art style) would be a new Super Mario RPG, Mario & Luigi or Super Princess Peach though tbh.

Edit: I'd also add Restless Soul to this list in terms of that 'Paper' look

Re: Talking Point: What's The Worst Game That You Still Love For Some Reason?

wuntyme8

Hmm it's tough to differentiate whether to name games I've seemingly enjoyed more than most, or games that are objectively considered 'bad', but I still enjoyed above how they were generally received. In both cases wouldn't they just be considered subjectively "underrated"?

Meh, without overthinking it further I'd say...

  • Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles
  • Dragon Ball Z: Idainaru Dragon Ball Densetsu (DBZ Legends)
  • Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes
  • Battletoads
  • Wu Tang: Shaolin Style
.. lots of good memories with these games and hopefully more to come.

Re: Toree 3D Developer Brings Super Kiwi 64 To Switch eShop This December

wuntyme8

Between Super Kiwi 64 and Frogun, I'm really loving the resurgence of the nostalgic N64-PS1 blocky art style & aesthetic (or "Rareware" as some have colloquially aforementioned... is this becoming a new genre? Certainly hope so.)! I’m intrigued so I’ll keep an eye on this one for a sale to potentially check it out.

I'll only add that I wish these games had a little more appealing/captivating character designs.. that would help raise my interest a lot more.

Tbh though, the homage to this 3D chunky polygonal era just makes me want a new:

  • Mega Man 64/Legends
  • Brave Fencer Musashi
  • Threads of Fate
  • Street Fighter EX
    .. games on Switch though.

... Wun can only hope.

Re: Review: Tunic - Old-School Adventuring With Nods To Zelda, Unforgiving And Ingenious

wuntyme8

I'm super pleased this made it's way to Switch as I was hoping. Seems like a nice fit. Unfortunate to hear about the visual downgrade & performance hiccups, but I don't think it will deter me getting it (also perhaps there are patches coming). Definite a pickup once on sale for me.

I still have much in by backlog to pace through and I don't feel super inclined to rush to get this game as I played Death's Door not too long ago and get similar vibes from this. A little more time away will make Tunic more alluring & enjoyable for me I feel.

Hopefully more 'originally released on Xbox' titles continue to make their way to Switch (I'm looking at you Sable!).

Re: Review: Manifold Garden - A Remarkable Spectacle Undermined By Benign Puzzles

wuntyme8

@williamchyr
Thank you for this labour of love. I got this game randomly on sale after being intrigued after seeing a preview and can say it's a solid 9/10 for me. I don't even usually purchase puzzle/physics games like this, but the artistic design, colour, vibrancy, tone and aesthetics were just too alluring to pass up. This game was overall an amazing & beautiful experience.

I know it took quite some time and effort to bring Manifold Garden to fruition, but I'd absolutely love if you made another or similar artistic title for Switch! Thank you again!

... Wun can only hope.

Re: Nintendo's Huge 'Blockbuster' Sale Ends This Weekend, Up To 85% Off Switch Games And DLC (North America)

wuntyme8

There's no guarantee for when and how significant sales will happen, so even though I have enough in my backlog already to hold me for the rest of the year at the very least... I still used some Gold Coins and picked up some puzzle games on sale- Lumines Remastered & Gorogoa for cheap. Hopefully when the time comes, I'll have some extra funds/coins for potential significant Black Friday & Holiday sales splurging.

... Wun can only hope.

Re: Random: Wii Music Walked So 'Trombone Champ' Could Run, And We Need A Switch Port

wuntyme8

I know I'm often in comments listing personal requests for new games in certain series... but another Wii Music is definitely NOT one of them. Choosing the various GameCube startup jingles are a better music game than that travesty.

However, if we’re talking Music Games, it's time to make a new:

  • Rhythm Heaven
  • Elite Beat Agents
  • Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix
  • Donkey Kong Jungle Beat
  • Samba De Amigo
    Honourable Mention: Mario Paint

… Wun can only hope.

Re: Review: Easy Come Easy Golf - Everybody's Golf Spiritual Successor Scores A Birdie On Switch

wuntyme8

Definitely seems like a mobile game that's been ported and cleaned up for console play. I still have Everybody's Golf on PS4 and Golf Story on Switch though so I'm okay passing on golf entries for awhile.

I'd love to see Clap Hanz try making some other arcade takes on sports games though like Boxing, Dodgeball, Basketball, Tennis, Hockey or even Croquet.

... Wun can only hope.
