I can't believe I only now realised the Japanese name for Super Mario Bros 2 was Super Mario USA! 😅 (I knew about the 2/Lost Levels naming, so obviously it couldn't be called the same but... i just knew the Doki Doki Panic origin and never looked up the "rerelease" name in Japan before!)
@Filthy Same! Can't decide if to be happy and support this game or ignore and move on with my life I loved the first game so much, but not sure I'd enjoy it half as much today, especially not in this art style 🤔 Would be interesting to try this though or go back to the original to see how it's held up
@jeronmoore Thanks for the insight. Sad to hear however that devkits are still locked behind a selection process - it's not just that they are expensive? Guess they're having a shortage then (and if some other reasons... not sure I'd like those ). Crossing fingers you'll get access/support sooner rather than later on that front!
I pick Metroidvania because I don't have to explain it to anyone (I don't object with your point though and do like Metvania 😁)
@DarkFighter, wow, strong endorsement! Glad you enjoy it so thoroughly. Sonicka's contrasting view drives home the point for me however that this game will be loved by those who liked/love HK, but won't change anyone else's mind. (But, that must have been expected from most.) Looking forward to getting to this in 2026 when current games are played through!
The commenters on X didn't go easy on him hehe. Some comments on here sound similar enough so guess a few of you cross-post.
Anyway, post #1 above = preferred way of doing it I think! A bit tricky to secure that the digital dl is only playable by the card owner but they could find a way if they wanted to I believe. (E.g. only allow a digital download on 1 console and make the card owner able to switch, thus leaving someone selling the card not able to count on keeping the dl.)
I had the same question about life sims - how many can we need 😂 Is it just me or did all of them kind of look like a ripped off mix of Animal Crossing and Minecraft? (Edit: scrolling through the rest of the news from the past day my eyes landed on this: "NEWS Pokémon Pokopia Looks Like An Adorable Mix Of Minecraft And Animal Crossing" 😂 Apparently I'm not alone lol, though I do think also Dinkum or smth and the mii life sim also looked samey...)
I liked the Direct overall but it had such weird content and flow I thought: why so many dime a dozen games shown off. Also, where's Elden Ring? I wonder if it's getting its own airtime soon or if there is something more worrying about its no-show like a delay.
Lastly, I might have lived under a rock but Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined took me off guard in all the right ways: day one for me!
Everyone up top already stated how I feel regarding this trailer so I won't go into detail. In short: motorcycles don't do it for me in this game (that goes even more for Zelda though ). But more worrying is if they felt this was what they wanted to show off the most. Art direction, that empty wasteland, low poly enemies (yeah yeah bet they're not polygons anymore ).... Not feeling the space hunter alone in space vibe here.
Also I'm biased against Prime 2, and the color scheme in this one somehow resembles that one. Maybe it's the purple? 😁 Not sure, but I might (gasp) wait a bit before biting on this one.
I really, really though hope for this to be aced in the end; for you guys here and all other Samus fans, for the devs who have been through a rollercoaster on this one, and for the IP's future. Crossing fingers.
No need to wait for any patches for this one; it was stellar out of the box, both performance and content wise. What you're seeing here are small improvements you likely won't ever notice or care much about, since there isn't much to improve. In short, great game, and if you want it at least don't let future patches be the reason for waiting.
Wow, the vote has a new 3D Mario up top by a landslide. Well, you did ask what we were hoping to see, not what we expect to see 😁. Would be glad to be proven wrong, but with the main 3D Mario team having just wrapped up Bananza I really can't see how that would happen outside of a totally new direction by another team - like as if they felt, "we've done all we can with this line of Mario after Odyssey". Doubt it, but would he cool and very unexpected. The one thing letting me keep that sliver of (naive?) hope as well is the 40th anniversary.
As for me, I hope to see a stellar performance Elden Ring! While I have no doubt it'll be on display, the performance that's been reported is worrying... once again, key phrase here is hope - hoping it'll do a Star Wars Outlaws 180 ;D
@Friendly seems we feel the same way on digital regarding the convenience thing. Must admit I never thought about the performance aspect previously, though of course you get that with game key cards too. (Btw, looking at your post also made me happy because of the best Fire Emblem character as your profile pic )
This was nowhere on my radar and now I want to play it. Any clarification on Switch 2 / Switch 1 compatibility would be super appreciated, as others suggested too. Cheers for review!
Just finished filling out the survey, saw your profile and realised I've been a reader here for so long and never really reflected on you founding it and never got a chance to say thanks so...
Anthony — thanks for founding Nintendo Life and steering it all these years. I used to bounce around outlets like IGN, Nintendojo, Nintendoexpress and others when looking for news, and even wrote for a few of those back in the day. But for a long time now, Nintendo Life has simply been the place I come back to — easily the most likable and enjoyable Nintendo site for me.
Of course there are occasional pieces that don’t hit my taste (the recent Star Wars back-and-forth on quality issues comes to mind), but overall the coverage is consistently excellent, balanced, and passionate. It shows that the site is built by people who genuinely care.
So yeah, wanted to take this opportunity to give some proper thanks. Keep up the great work, which goes for the full team as well — it’s very much appreciated!
Maybe write Nintendo too, no? Doesn't sound good. For several of my fav games I have both a physical and a digital version; the digital one for the convenience of always having the game ready.
This is a game I'd like to play down the line for sure, glad to see it got some of the redemption it seemingly deserves after the earlier miscrediting.
@PJOReilly really appreciate you responding to the Qs in the comment section 🙏 (and good Q pillowpants)
That said, am I the only one kind of happy when some games half on your radar don't get top scores? I'm grateful to not pile more onto my current or future backlog for now - sorry devs
@RenanKJ agree with you and Ulysses - more balance to this news piece would be beneficial. But kudos to NL for checking the comments and inserting an "update" section into the piece.
These kind of articles worry me since they may give a game an undeservedly bad rep based basically on hearsay (unless it's a trusted source - I missed that bit if so). Judging by Switch 2 videos online I can't really see any issues with the game, rather the opposite. I'll take the people above's advice and wait for some reviews to come in!
Crossing fingers big time for this one! I was such a massive fan of Goldeneye back when, then I got sidetracked for what, 25+ years? But now I feel ready to return to the Bond universe ;p
This is the first I heard Star Wars Outlaws is not running well, which makes me sad/apprehensive - I was kinda excited to see what that was like but if it tanks in reviews it'll be a no go... Apart from that, I'm already backlogged so most games this month will be a "revisit later down the line" type of thing, including Silksong.
This will be a silly comment but... For some reason FPS news like this about Borderlands or Apex etc only keep reminding me I miss a new Goldeneye fix 😂 i.e. bring on the next Bond game
I'm very glad the devs support the Switch 2 however!
@Rainz I feel the same way! I loved Harvest Moon btw growing up, but in my adult years for some reason the pacing of it / the time sink has made me steer clear (thus far). Really curious about exploring this world one day
Okay, read the news plus the old linked news, and all of it including the comment section so far all fail to mention what kind of game it is haha. Well, to be fair, I guess there's Google or an AI client of choice. Still found it funny 😂
At least I now know it pioneered cel-shaded visuals
"In case you haven't heard of the game before, Fear Effect is a 2000 PS1 game that pioneered cel-shaded visuals and looping FMV backgrounds."
I'm very curious to try this grip out somehow; I get tired by holding the S2 for extended amounts of time, especially lying on my back, and maybe this would help 🤔 A bit skeptical regarding adding weight though since I find that is the biggest issue compared to the S1 with regards to ergonomics...
Wonder if I should try this out again. Must admit I haven't touched it since its release year 🙈 I was obviously nowhere close hitting that level cap hehe, but sounds like a good change.
I loved playing through Hollow Knight back when, but for some reason I'm not excited about this. Maybe tastes have switched in the many years since or I've simply had my fill for awhile - maybe I will get back in the mood in a few years. I'm still oddly satisfied it seems to be great though for everyone that has waited for this ✨
Haha yeah that was weird, though I must say it's been running like a charm. Either I'm not that picky or they wanted to highlight that fun trumps millimeter performance at every turn (but for fun to be had also they surely realise there's a hygiene level you must achieve at the very minimum)
This was not in my knowledge bank at all - thanks for the review! Backlog is already piling up once more, otherwise I would've tried this out for sure! I'm still in the "loved Octopath Traveller so much, whenever will I get to play my dled OT II??" mode (sidetracked by Cyberpunk and others...)

See above - with how it came across to me I think it warranted a lifted eyebrow 😁
(especially coming from a Switch 1 era where 30 locked was often the best we got 😅)
Also, to be frank, I've mostly seen "No buy unless 60 FPS" comments everywhere here the past year, so yeah I got a bit frustrated to now see that spread to 120 Again, that was before knowing that's not feature parity which makes it fair game to call out obviously

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (13th September)
Got into New Star GP thanks to recommendations on this forum - cheers mates!
The DK drop made me try the Bananza DLC, but while I found the island very nice as a location, I'm not a fan of the Emerald mode.
And as always, some Sky: Children of the Light 😁
Re: How Well Do You Know Mario?
Thought I knew my Mario but got tripped up by Mario vs Luigi of all things, confusing it with the Mario & Luigi games lol
Thanks for a fun quiz
