Corona is messing up the business echosystem as we know it, airlines going bankrupt, tourist shops everywhere not surviving and impacting whole societies, sports events and now gaming events cancelled, and probably just the beginning. And this with a not very lethal virus, imagine the impact of a resident evil type virus. In this case, the virus is not the biggest problem but the side effects are. Didn't think about all these side effects until this outbreak.
On a sidenote: I wonder if the beer brand Corona is benefiting or not from the association.
And regarding emotional impact of E3 being cancelled for me (and probably some more): it's like removing birthdays or Christmas and saying you'll get a gift "sometime" instead. Maybe an exaggeration but trying to get the sense of the feeling across.
Pleasantly surprised by reading this. I still haven't played Oxenfree however even if sitting dled on my Switch, so not sure I'll ever get to this. Kudos to dev team for making this game though; I like the concept.
Good perspective. I, of course, was head over heels for the purple lunch box but can see why it's not necessary to be a current-gen Nintendo gamer to land a marketing job. He had skills for the job and at least a more than fleeting interest for gaming, with a fresh take on why people weren't buying the Cube. They could have done worse.
For the record, I also owned a PS2 & Xbox, hell even an Ngage But for some reason my heart has always been with Nintendo. (Maybe due to NES being my first console? Either Zelda on NES or Super Mario World on SNES made me a fan I guess, and SM64 cemented it.)
Insightful and agreed. It does put Nintendo on the spot. Seems Platinum would like to bully Nintendo into letting them publish by showing an "it's not us, it's them" attitude to the general crowd. Not a nice move, disappointed. They should negotiate with their publisher before making such statements. (I'm personally fine with the games being multiplatform, but I lost some respect for Platinum if they indeed haven't run this by Nintendo first.)
That's an insane amount of money for added content in a mobile game, I think maximum 2.99€ would have been "fair" (I'd still never buy it). But as several of you mentioned above, many will probably pay
Crazy Taxi, Sega Rally 2, Jet Set Radio, Space Channel 5 and Gitaroo Man would be my dream revivals. Oh right, Gitaroo Man was Inis/Koei... but I just really want Gitaroo Man
Judging by certain video segments this has straight up ripped segments/copied them straight over - even how enemies look/act, how/when events are triggered, art of certain locations & items etc.
BK's overall experience seems to have more similarities to Mario but without crossing the line to straight out copying 1:1 (I owned & played through all of BK). So, BK overall will probably be a much closer experience to Mario than this to Zelda (except in certain segments where this has shamelessly just stolen bits and pieces).
In other words, this is less of a clone and more going from part its own style to part copy paste segments and then I mean copy paste in a way I've never seen allowed to be released. I have no strong feelings about it, just observing.
I liked the overall Mii focus and how many games supported your own Miis in different ways. Also the crowds showing which games were popular at the moment was a nice touch that I miss. I can't say I used the forums too much though due to the clumsiness of the interface, but OK if coupled with a mobile app.
I can't remember how Raymand Legends used it, but I think that game had a good implementation. At least I loved and somehow followed the weekly (?) challenges at launch.
Anyway, I think the overall Mii focus created a personalisation aspect of the console and its games that I cared for. I'm for bringing Miiverse back as well, could always avoid it if not for you.
Super interesting! Thanks for tip, this will be instant dl when I get back to my Switch.
I have no issues with short games as long as they're priced reasonably - sometimes I even prefer short so I can get the full experience. Longer games run the risk of life coming in between and me getting disconnected, happened a few hours into the Witcher (PS4) and now it's been so long that I will have to start over and who knows when that'll happen. The biggest problem with growing up, working and raising a family
You didn't watch the beta video above I guess. Look around 10 minutes in for example, it's a carbon copy of the Zelda bokoblins and their "skull caves" with both the same enemies, weapons, a chest unlocking after killing them all, even a mushroom to pick up looking exactly the same. I'm a bit weirded out! Intrigued, but also a bit repulsed by the complete ripoff of assets and ideas. I'm fine with "inspired by", but this... wow. I would've thought this could easily be a lawsuit. I might still play it if good, if really allowed to be released.
In some moments I liked this simplistic dungeon crawling take on final fantasy, but was mostly disappointed. I invested in 4 GBA SPs for this with all the cabling, was OKish but not worth the price of admission back then. Not sure it would be now either. Hope many will enjoy it however!
I would have killed for this 15 years ago when my then girlfriend loved playing the GameCube version "with" me, leaving small notes on the town board. Nowadays I'm not sure what I feel. I'd probably like it but feel like a time sink, I think I either prefer short bursts of play or a gripping story/adventure. I've probably grown old and boring. Will buy this to see if that's true
Make it happen already... This was a downer to hear, had thought that the 2020 legacy news would make them want to swoop in and show how it's done. Too small team? No possibility to outsource or too worried about quality then?
You might be on to something. What if he actually ISN'T fully aware of the huge discrepancy between products on different systems. Or is told, "we've done them as best as it is possible on all consoles" and he actually believes his product lead - who was in charge of the decision to cut corners on Switch and internally tries to save face.
Shudder If that's the kind of culture the company has fostered, somehow I don't envy the people there.
Damn, how did I miss that sale!?? Have been waiting for a big drop in price on NBA since last year and this was HUGE Well, no basketball for me... (is not a popular sport here but I enjoy the odd match = not worth the full or even half the price of admission for me)
Not my type of fighting mechanics, but the game looks better and better in the graphical department. Terrific! Probably a pass for me at launch but will be tempted if there's a sale.
I've never played or watched cricket. The review says the in-game tutorial is solid, would this hold true also for a complete beginner - any owner that could comment?
This looks great. I think the characters themselves are a bit too "harshly" cel-shaded if that makes sense, but otherwise it looks both beautiful & interesting.
Feels a bit unfair to compare sales of a collection to individual releases that - albeit remastered - are very old games. Now, each game on its own is most often a "maybe" that'll turn into a "not now" once realising how many other great new games are still in backlog.
@deadpixels thanks a lot for that input. (and thanks Fidget!)
I never quite fell in love with Fusion. Can't remember why, but probably due to the physics/steering of the crafts that yeah, they nailed in 2097. Intrigued, but hope they'll have a demo of this one.
The video actually sounded even more positive about the Switch version than the loose transcription. Difference is basically resolution and lighting, but not drastically so in any way. So yeah, impressive they got the Switch version out at the same time in such a great condition - tempted (though I haven't played MK since MK2 & don't really play fighting games ).
I feel like a bore; I was maybe too old when introduced, but I've never cared an ounce for achievements in that sense. If I'm getting all platinum in Blast Corps or getting all stars in SMW that's enough for me, I don't need a text somewhere telling me I've achieved it or something random like "smashed 3311 buildings". If something I'm challenged to do unlocks new gear or levels, fine, but if it's just a graphical text or trophy I couldn't care less.
That review read like a love letter through and through. This game better be awesome since I'm dl:ing it now just based on the clear infatuation of the writer
Wipeout 2097 on PSX is still my favorite "hover racer" due to the control and physics of the hover crafts. I just really dug the heaviness of the vehicles and the drift mechanics and how it was more about nailing the turns than reacting the fastest at blinding speeds. (I liked how it started with slow speeds forcing me to learn steadily up to phantom class.)
To those who have played this game, will I like it?
Apart from more onboard storage memory I don't see the need for a revision already. But sure, a budget model for kids (no detachable stuff etc) makes sense, even though it's not interesting for me personally.
@Heavyarms55 Fair point! I think exceptional game design doesn't even need difficulty levels since different difficulty is built into the game. For example, in Super Mario World (SNES) you can either stroll through the levels, use real skills to find secrets & do tricky flying, or get quite a challenge in the later star world. I find that kind of difficulty built into the game design extremely satisfactory. Plus, when a game tells me to select normal or hard, I'm always torn between the options (since I like playing relaxed at times as well) so prefer not having to choose
Just got myself a 3DS and playing A Link Between Worlds. (Will have beaten it by tonight.) The used system also had Bravely Default on it, and since I loved Octopath Traveler I have high hopes for that.
Also playing some Steamworld Heist while considering pulling the trigger on Rico.
Thanks for response and clearing things up! I heard Activision's license rights expired though so naively hope against hope that maybe Microsoft (with Rare) & Nintendo (copyright expired?) could pay EON/MGM for the rights and deliver the following into my grubby hands
The review of this game was quite spot on. As for the DF analysis: must say I never noticed any framerate dips & the game feels very smooth, so don't know what anyone would possibly complain about in that department. Not my type of game, but definitely not a failure when it comes to how it runs on the platform.
I agree about irresponsible reporting. If I hadn't tried the demo I would have thought it was crap based on this "news piece". Populistic evening newspaper style reporting on my favourite Nintendo website will soon turn this into a clickbaity "avoid" site instead. Please, NL, stop it!
I played through the whole demo and with 30 years of gaming under my belt on every console, I could find zero fault with smoothness of framerate. In fact, silky smooth on handheld mode for me (didn't try on tv).
Yeah, the first level looks like crap, but the tutorial that comes directly after looks very nice with no "fog/sandstorm" and the rest of the levels much better as well. It's really night and day compared to how this news piece makes it seem.
With that said, this is not my type of game. My favorite part was the tutorial... I prefer my racing realistic when it comes to tracks while semi-realistic in physics - so not simulation but also definitely not over the top. And I felt the tracks in this is definitely over the top for me (while physics almost a bit too fiddly). For reference, Excitebike 64 is still my favorite in the genre, hah, especially the stadium tracks. (Yeah I feel old.) This game made me feel the ache for a new version.
Not sure if I misremember, but shouldn't Goldeneye be a far-fetched possibility if Microsoft & Nintendo both used their respective rights to the IP? Would play a Goldeneye remastered to bits
Solid direct. It was objectively probably a very good direct, for me personally it was "OK". Would have liked a show of stronger third-party support from big studios. No interest in Mario Maker - which looked really solid - and my most anticipated game Fire Emblem came across a bit meh. I have faith it'll still be terrific, though.
Daemon X demo was a bit underwhelming with hard to spot enemies due to design direction. The setup itself seems kinda cool but doesn't seem like my type of game. Nice surprise with a demo already however. The Yoshi demo was better than anticipated but it's not the type of game I buy - unless under $20. Really glad to have Assassin's Creed back but III is one of the few ACs I didn't enjoy much. Might buy due to bonus game.
Intrigued by Hellblade, and was really glad to see a new seemingly quality IP in Astral Chain. Probably not my type of game but really glad for that type of announcements. Dragon Quest: will buy. It'll be my first Dragon Quest.
Zelda... when I first saw the waves I was hyped & hoped against hope for a new take on Wind Waker, but I'll still purchase this Zelda day one. Not a fan of the graphical direction but you can't please everyone & I'm starting to get old
Good underrated game, but can't believe they still support it with the initial sales it had Not sure if I should be impressed or just confused. I kinda wish they would focus their efforts on a new improved game rather than prolong something that I'm done with. But of course that requires very different levels of effort/time/resources.
@oceano Me too I had some troubles with final boss a few days ago, but then picked it up yesterday and got it on my first try. I felt I was done with it though, but then I read this - had no idea more dlc was planned I got 106%, no interest in Godmaster content really, but this sounds like a bit more story content which could draw me back in.
Well, he was quite right with Nintendo being "only one hardware away" from probably striking gold again. And according to the new interviews it seems he surely did find the sexy hardware he was looking for with the Switch. He's been a bit hit and miss with his games but has some shining examples under his belt so Kudos for that Mr M.
Why is the fact that you have to switch cards good news? I preferred the assumption that both games would be on one card. I feel stupid since I don't get it - enlighten me please The only reason I can think of is if you only like one of the games and plan to sell the other.

He's been a bit hit and miss with his games but has some shining examples under his belt so Kudos for that Mr M.
Re: Import Copies Of Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster Include Two Game Cards
Why is the fact that you have to switch cards good news? I preferred the assumption that both games would be on one card. I feel stupid since I don't get it - enlighten me please The only reason I can think of is if you only like one of the games and plan to sell the other.
