Re: Feature: Memorable Games of 2017 - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

@SimplyCinnamon53 Return to the original formula is exactly what they did with BotW (Go try the original LoZ.) I for one am glad they did! Not the most replayable Zelda, but for me the best experience ever the first time through. Like was the case for someone else as well, it rekindled my love for games and I can't be thankful enough for that.

I guess the story can be great or not depending on how you play. I'm curious and want to explore so I looked for all the story locations and got to experience all the background story, which was a cool & immersive way of telling the story I thought without being in your face. It gave some weight to the fact that most things took place 100 years ago and made it feel more like a "legend", plus tied in well with the desolate Hyrule and Link recovering his memory. I can see why some didn't particularly like the delivery, however.

That said, I really grew tired of the base enemies, Bokoblins and Lizalfos in particular - they're everywhere! And instead of just upping the health of enemies when growing in power it'd have been much preferred with smarter enemies or new tougher enemies showing up. I think there could've been a better variety in short, didn't need to go 8-bit style enemy wise...

Also, wanted the world to have more interactive cities, like the one in Majora's Mask, but mainly more cool battle locations like Hyrule Castle and cooler more animal or human like bosses. I'm not a big fan of mechs/robots, and those bosses and dungeons were not "organic" enough for me.

Despite these shortcomings, game of the year for me... Mario Odyssey grew on me while getting 100%, but Zelda felt more magical. (Now I'll go play some old backlog games like Witcher 3 )

@gatorboi352 I also care a lot about graphics, but if you're passing on the Switch for that reason alone you're missing out; Odyssey looks glorious even on a big 4k screen as do a few other releases. Granted, most games do look well below PS4 graphics, which is a given with such a small console, but for me it's the perfect compromise. I love continuing playing my games on the go. (For games with nice graphics / impressive presentation I prefer playing on TV but combine with playing short spurts on trains / flights. For other games such as Golf Story etc I use the Switch mostly as a handheld.)

Re: Feature: 20 Games That Aren't On The SNES Classic Mini, But Really Should Be

molkom

@skywake Totally agree. Super Tennis and Chrono Trigger are the ones that could hold the "classic" pedigree I think, the others are either compilations, obscure titles for the mainstream, or follow-ups where already the most essential are included (e.g. the first Donkey Kong Country).

Personally, I'd love for ISS to be on there, but I understand why it's not just like with most games on this list.

Re: Video: Here's How FIFA 18 On Switch Compares To The PlayStation 4 Version

molkom

@DESS-M-8 Animations are clearly not the same, as can be seen in the video. Apart from being really jealous of those, I am impressed with the Switch version. I stayed up all night playing Zlatan in career mode even though I hate FIFA (I’m a PES fan but what to do when that game is not on the platform.)

I’ve played all Fifa’s up until FIFA 16 and actually consider this Switch version the most fun. Well done. Became slightly curious about FIFA 18 on PS4 though after this video to see if it can compare to the mighty gameplay of PES16-18 (PES went [removed] after PES6 but recently returned to form).

Re: Review: Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle (Switch)

Recently bought this. Finished it yesterday along with the ultimate challenges and must say I was both hooked and pleasantly surprised throughout. What a great game. Usually I like short games, but for this I would gladly have had double the amount of worlds to explore just because it's so fun. Only fault I can find with the game: the awkward intros and outros of cutscenes; man are they cutting them off abruptly haha. Oh, and the end credits were choppy/stuttering/lagging

@mariophd @redmagelanakyn

Curious about where you'll be residing instead. Nintendolife is my only Nintendo source nowadays, and while I keep reading here I'd really like a second opinion site with good non-populistic writers who are in it for their love of good games. Tips welcome.

As for NBA2k, another reviewer states that some of the issues don't appear if hard rebooting after installing. So NL might wanna try that. (Anyway, gameplay is paramount to me so can stand shoddy cutscenes )

He did leave a score, in the comment section. He'd most likely grade it an 8 without the tech issues... Even better would be if everyone did like you and read the review to get a feel for the game (though no mention of the microtransactions make me wonder how many hours have been put in).

The only valid reason I see for wanting a score promptly is to make a statement to the publisher that it's not acceptable to release a game in this state. I've heard, however, that some issues disappear if you reboot your Switch after installing (not sleep mode, hard reboot). Worth a shot...?

Personally I'm not sure if leeway should be given or not to any games upon release. Some sites write "advanced previews" and just don't call it reviews and seem to get away with this kind of thing (stating they need more playtime or such, which may or may not be true). I guess calling it a review sets the expectation for a score much higher though. Not sure what I'd have done... probably have two scores on "my" site, one gameplay score and one overall score and short one-line explanations. For NBA 2k18 the score could be 9 for gameplay and 3 overall.
