Re: Mario Kart World Devs Perfected Its Controls By Skating And Riding During Their Lunch Breaks

molkom

@Baker1000

Like others mentioned, it's very different.

Personally, I'm in the "oh my gd what did they do to my fav karter of all times" camp 😅 I so wish they had kept the mechanics, kept the tighter tracks that required perfecting turn/drift techniques and didn't have long stretches of nothing happening on super wide straights.

The new techniques aren't that interesting to me since I've always been more in the pure racing camp over what I see as gimmicks of a sort. While seamlessly implemented, they are nothing compared to perfecting cornering (again, to me).

For that crowd, there is always Beetle Adventure Racing and the likes (And I kind of kid with that one, so don't hang me NL gang )

I do think a lot in the game were good progressions, like free roam, knockout tour, etc, but the tracks and how to most efficiently get through them seem to be far removed from my preferred cup of tea so to speak...

Re: Nintendo Will Discontinue Switch Game Vouchers Entirely In 2026

molkom

I actually think it could be a stupid business move; I estimate these vouchers have made me purchase at least 7-10 titles I would never have bought otherwise.

Me: Oh, I am gonna buy this game..
Oh, it's voucher eligible!
I'm sure I'm gonna buy some other game within the year so might as well get the discount. Purchases vouchers
Some game is released that I'm not quite willing to pay up for.
Oh, I have a voucher left. Hmm, this doesn't sting really, there's nothing else I want either.. hmm.. click Sold.

Well done, Nintendo. But why don't you wanna continue tricking me to buy more games? "Play less" isn't what I thought you were about

Re: Techland Skips Dying Light 'Retouched' Upgrade For Switch, Says There Are No Plans For A Switch 2 Version

Whirlwound, the bots part was mainly made as a joke to make a point about how different the posts in this section are, and from so many different posters. I get your worry, but I think it's way too early to say. As some mentioned, how would you support something you don't yet have devkits for (why the rampup of devkits is this slow each generation is another question however that I don't have the answer to, but seems a recurring pattern for launches).

@Keman

"the difference will be much greater between PS6 - Switch 2 compared with PS5 - Switch" - is this from a source and if so which or your own speculation?

@Rosona a voice of reason in this oddly negatively dramatic comment section, thank you 😅 We're just starting out. I mean, most launches on all platforms are usually way weaker for way longer.

@cedarhyped I take it you're being ironic vs all the negativity

Overall, this comment section started to make me think about fake AI bots posting, hope that's just me being overly dramatic instead

Re: Opinion: I Never Felt True Nostalgia Until I Played GameCube On Switch 2

molkom

GameCube will always have a special place in my heart; it was the first console I attended a pre-launch event for (travelled to the UK/London for The Nintendo Show) with my at the time new gamer girlfriend (who couldn't attend since not press though) and it was kinda magical. Being surprised by Luigi's Mansion, exploring space in Star Wars and riding the waves in Wave Race in a dark night-club like atmosphere and getting kitted with a nice Nintendo bag and press kit, while at the same time signing my first international gaming job, that trip will forever stay with me. Thank you for the memories little lunch box.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Have A New Go-To Racer In Mario Kart World?

molkom

Wow, Daisy in the lead was unexpected (to me)! My main was myself as a Mii character, both for the looks but if I recall correctly also for it having the right mix of heavy and speed? I mixed it with racing tires and a golden kart.

Seeing no Mii support (yet?) unless I've missed it makes me sad 😅 So I've stuck to Mario so far, but I'm not "feeling it" so open for mixing it up...

Re: Nintendo Reminds Mario Kart Players They Can Toggle Auto And Smart Controls

molkom

I'm with everyone saying there should be a prompt asking if to have assist on or off. I only noticed this by having played MK8 so recognised the antennas on user select screen = could turn off before my first race. Feels like surprisingly dumb UX or is Nintendo knowing something I don't, e.g. over 50% preferring these options on? 😁

Re: Review: Mario Kart World (Switch 2) - The Perfect Introduction To A New Console Generation

molkom

Judging by the review and comments I need to give this game a better chance. I played a few Grand Prix and Knockout Tours plus freeroam, and then haven't touched it. Instead I played through welcome tour - good game! - and now on Cyberpunk and Ori; The driving felt just slightly off to me, compared to MK8 which I think nailed the cornering which is a key element for my racing enjoyment. I feel like such a snob saying so though seeing how much effort is put into this game 😅

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For The Nintendo Switch 2

molkom

I love it as a piece of tech. Still awaiting some marquee games like Mario (DK?) or Zelda but still impressed so far apart from the battery. Some say the screen is worse than Switch OLED? This makes me feel old and blind; I find the Switch 2 screen infinitely clearer and punchier and couldn't be much happier 😁

Re: Review: Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller - A New Benchmark In Comfort And Design

molkom

So, the only negative from the review is the lack of analogue triggers as I read it.

Only one day in obviously but I really dig this controller.

As for launch day controllers go, I was intrigued by the N64 one and blown away by the GameCube one (that one with a proper right analogue stick would maybe still be my fav), but this is very slick and the upgrade over the Pro controller seems in line with how the Switch 2 has improved over the Switch.

Re: Codemasters Says It Will Look At Switch 2 And See If It's A "Good Fit" For F1 Games

molkom

I can't see any viable reason not every company would like to put every game possible - input methods play a part here - on the Switch 2. Yes yes, installed base and such but conversion ratios are much higher on average early on and I doubt many people think S2 will not sell.

So if S2 had analogue triggers I can't see why not all racing sims would be all over this already. Issue with relying on third party accessories is obviously that that decreases the addressable target audience and creates a barrier. Up/down analogue stick would have to be supported then, but not sure racing fans deem that good enough? If that's the case, I get why they might hold off. Sad if so, since I think I'd enjoy a solid F1 game. Keeping fingers crossed still!

Re: Talking Point: Are You Ghosting Switch 1 To Save Yourself For Switch 2?

molkom

Getting into some of my backlog and enjoying myself, playing Nier Automata for the first time right now as well as Xenoblade (the definitive edition). Looks like those two risk not being done in time for Switch 2 however, but will try since worried I won't get to them again if abandoning them mid-game. (Have two Switch 2 incoming.)

Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 20.0.0 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

molkom

@jco83

Funnily enough, even though Kirby Clash is a free game, this is still a problem I noticed yesterday. We could no longer start the game on one console, the Switch stating the virtual game card was loaded on the other console.

Deleting the game and trying to redownload it as a "separate console" game was prohibited as well, since the eShop referred me to the Game Card section on my Switch to redownload the game. Doing that just looped the issue 🙈 (still only able to have the virtual game card in one Switch)

Observe that I "have" toggled the use online licenses.

Anyway, so this pain in the a$$ issue could be worked around by me setting up a new user, link that user to a new Nintendo account, delete the game, then log onto eShop with that user to download the game anew. Tada, gameplay reassumed...

Funny with this limitation even for free games heh. However, I realise this logic will block me from even purchasing multiple paid copies on different Switches (e.g. MKW) without setting up different user accounts & linking them to new Nintendo accounts 😅

Likely not a big issue for many, but slightly bothersome since needing to set up extra email accounts, passwords, remember/store those, just for the sake of this. Hopefully I'm missing something 😁
