I like the idea of playing RDR1 on Switch but the pricing is too high for a straight port.

@jamesthemagi I agree, an announcement at Gamescom is an even weirder play than just doing their own independent live show

I think it's going to depend on

-when the Switch 2 is announced.
-if Switch 2 is BC.
-any new Switch models announced (Lite OLED?).
-any permanent discounts.

Worse case for future Switch sales: Nintendo announces Switch 2 at gamescon with full BC and no new Switch models, no discount on Switch till after Switch 2 launch.

I'm expecting some sort of great change for the next one.

If Sakurai is still involved then it could be something like all characters getting new move lists.

If its someone else it could be more an reinvention of gameplay itself. An absolutely massive risk, something like making it 3D

Don't get me wrong I loved Mania but it was basically a remix of the pixel Sonic games, which I say as a compliment, another remix would be hard to justify itself. (Basically the same reason I am desperate for Xenoverse 3 to do something new).

The biggest issue with the sensor bar was its relative size to your TV.

When I used it on my dads small "portable TV" it was basically 1:1 and felt great, when I got my 42inch plasma it was harder

I'm not entirely sure just how different a 2D Mario can be. It's Mario.

Short of replacing the models and voices with the movie ones there isn't anything they can do to make a 2D Mario that much different. It's all presentation.

For a "we just dropped one of our biggest games" Direct. It was really good.

As a "not e3" showcase it was one of the better ones this year. Some tease for 2024 but a lot of 2023 games.

Two thoughts
1) that's some very... animated animation
2) I'm surprised Daisy is playable.

My daughters have been after for a new Peach game, pretty much forever (Super Princess Peach came out before they was born)

I look forward to playing it, though I'm a little disappointed the models are squished like the OG sprites.

I may "eventually" do this so I can buy many, many arrows and kill the various Ghidorahs.

Illumination is famous for its phobia of exposition and lore, Zelda is objectively the worse fit for that style.

I prefer this concept to those split pads that make the switch massive.

I'm 3 temples down and the Ghidorah/hyrda's still mess me up. Buy I'm clearly playing it wrong, I have barely any arrows or money to buy arrows.

The rental price makes sense when your a family.

There's 5 of us the rental price is nothing compared to the total cost of a cinema trip and my kids have 48 hours to watch it as many times as they like.

Preordered a physical copy thanks to the discount currys offered.

My format choice was entirely driven by pricing.

However for funsies my Switch broke and needed to be sent off for repair, so for me the race is between my Switch and my copy arriving.

My money is on the game, "direct" collection was supposed to be faster but it sat at the courier depo for 4 days before getting to the repair shop yesterday,.

It dose seem to be standard practice for cgi films to have some sort of short for the home release (unless your Disney the you attach it to a film you need boosting) I think all of my kids illumination DVDs have a related short

@StarPoint depends on the company. Xbox treats gamescon like E3 with announcements and demos, Nintendo usually uses it to push games they annouced at E3 but since it's not happening this year (after everyone pulled out) we don't know what Nintendo will do

We can assume nothing, remember that year where they had a direct right before E3 and then had basically nothing to annouce during their E3 Direct.

Not going to lie, when I read "64" battles my brain went right to "ahh a battle mode based on Bomberman 64" and not "64 players" so I'm a little sad now.

I do think the sheer amount Easter eggs that show that a Mario less Nintendo exists in their world disputes the idea Nintendo is building one shared cinematic universe.

Which to be honest I'd prefer they didn't. I'd rather they have a bunch of different universes so we get a bunch of films that exist within that Mario/DK (and seemingly punch out) universe, one for Zelda, and one for Metroid/starfox/f-zero.

Don't get me wrong I'd love a Smash movie but it doesn't need all the characters coexisting in the same universe at the same time.

Said it before, Illumination (with Nintendo watching) is a good fit for Mario and DK, and anything that doesn't take itself too seriously (Splatoon and kirby could work with them) but they need to team up with different universal studios for different franchises. The How to Train Your Dragon team at Dreamworks would be fantastic for Zelda

Enjoyed the hell out of it. It was a good sign to me and my daughter laughed at different times.

It's certainly doing the job Nintendo wanted, she spent they day and half since playing every Mario game we own.

It does feel weird that people are expecting a lot of plot from a Mario movie. Don't get me wrong, pretty much any other Nintendo IP I get it but this is Mario, X needs rescuing is pretty much the only plot they have.

To me "spectacle over story" seems like the cinema version of "gameplay over story"

With Peach's role in the film and the ending of Odyessy A DLC/Standalone Peach spin-off or making her playable in a sequel makes a lot of sense.

I had Metal Gear it was a lot of fun, it really did nail the Metal Gear experience in its own GB way.

@SwagaliciousJohnson I did see some article for another site that claimed it was coming in someform and that the video saying pokemon wont be transferable disappeared.

Though it seemed to be hinting at "Pokemon Stadium + RBY" being a thing, so the GB pokemon games would be played in the N64 game not part of GB NSO.

@CaptChaos I thought that but there are a couple of details that sink that, even ignoring the "meta" things like the website, the woman is clearly using a smartphone. I think the visual and audio effects are "low budget" not "old"

@uptownsoul Smash is in the exact same place too. The next game will have a tiny roster in comparison. It seems like the best time to try something new with the two series to help deal with the "shrinkage" like giving smash characters all new movesets.

This is harder to swallow than other prise raises.
This isn't the tail end of a transition between generations resulting in higher costs, the switch is well established.

Sure the current cost of living I hitting everything and everyone with pricing to reflect that, and the switch tax has been a thing for some time but this isn't an all new project. Sure its a much larger project than their "major's mask" (or ac Brotherhood FC new dawn) style sequel.

I would wager the odds of Switch beating PS2 sales lies on if the next machine is backward compatible or not.

We saw the 3DS limp on for years thanks to it's massive library of good games, I can see the Switch doing the same if the next machine doesn't play Switch games natively. Limping over the PS2 sales before it stops being made.

If it's a "Switch 2" with full BC (or even a different machine that also plays Switch games) then I imagine sales would dry up much quicker.

This certainly fits the "Engage is just a hold over game" theory knocking about.

@Zimon the common thread among other engage players I've spoken to is that the "reducing the socialising" hasn't resulted equal improvement in the combat or story.

I'm not sure about playing CoD MP crossplay via switch, the resolution and frame rate difference is bound to cause problems.

I'd gladly pay for some sort of collection. Like have a MW collection, Waw/BO collection. Have them work like the Master Cheif collection collect the campaigns then have some sort of universal MP
