Re: Is This Our Best Look Yet At 'Switch 2'?

abe_hikura

So what are the odds here?

Version 1: this whole thing has been some weird promo tool for Genki that's exposed them as a Company that will fake another companies hardware at a trade show.
Version 2: the company lawyer burst into their office "What are doing!?!? They will destroy your company."

Re: Talking Point: Everyone Else Is Busy Revealing Switch 2 - What Gives, Nintendo?

"That's what you get with an iterative update with a sensible name and a sound business plan to make as many units as possible before launch"

I suspect the sheer "normal and sensible"-ness of that is why Nintendo has been doing weird stuff like Alarmo, they have to "get the weird out".

-I do think we are at the edge of anti-climax. Take the "mouse" thing, if that's true then that's a big twist spoiled, and if it's not real then disappointment.

Re: 'Switch 2' Ergonomic Grip Case Surfaces On Amazon

@Dev1024 I wouldn't be surprised Nintendo is going red in the face trying to not call it something like Super Nintendo Switch but is too burned from the Wii U confusion and complaints about "new 3ds" exclusives to risk it again.

No confusion with "Switch 2" though I imagine internally its spoken with the same tone as a small child being forced to apologise.

Re: Bayonetta Star Jennifer Hale On The SAG-AFTRA Strikes: "AI Is Coming For Us All"

abe_hikura

I'm caught right in the middle of this.

On the one hand, Voice Actors deserve every ounce of respect and pay they can get. Without them, many of our iconic game characters simply wouldn't be the same. I absolutely do not want them to lose money or work because of AI. That's a read line

But on the other hand, we will need AI if we're ever going to have NPC that react to our actual actions and methods, for the games to allow us to go "off script" and adapt on the fly.

The only workable middle I see is the VA is paid to do the usual work and for an AI to be trained on their performance for THAT CHARACTER for use in THAT ONE GAME. The AI can't be used for another character, can't be used in DLC, and can't be used in the sequel without the VA returning and being paid accordingly. The idea is that the AI is then able to "fill the gaps" whenever the game doesn't have a prepared recorded line but VA still does the same amount of work they do now.

I'm sure there would have to be a tone of additional protections for the VA, because corps gonna corp, but I don't see a better middle ground other than VAs owning the licence to any AI trained on their voice.

Re: Yakuza Kiwami Brings The Dragon Of Dojima To Switch For The First Time

abe_hikura

It's weird they are doing Kiwami 1 without Zero, I sure hope they don't try charging something silly for it.

It reminds me of them sending Yakuza out on the Wii to basically die (as they shortly announced Zero and it wont come to Wii U, then a remake of 1 after that) then blaming the low sales for not porting any Yakuza games to Nintendo platform.

Re: Hands On: SteamWorld Heist II Expands On A Beloved 3DS Title, But Is It What Fans Really Want?

abe_hikura

I love the genre switching. Build was just weaker.

I love Bulid's "city builder up top, keeper below) My problem with Bulid was there wasn't any reason to replay it beyond cosmetic differences between the levels.

No unique challenges or limitations to keep it interesting, no new strategies to try. I finished it faster than other Steamworld, builder, and management games.

Re: EA Apparently Exploring The Idea Of In-Game Ads In Traditional AAA Titles

abe_hikura

On paper, in theory, I wouldn't mind adverts included in a non-distracting, non-immersion breaking fashion if it meant studios stop trying to make live-services stick. Like as part of a in universe radio or what not.

In reality, I wouldn't trust EA or those who want to sell their products via in game adds to be able to do that. They would want full screen, impossible to ignore nonsense like 2k did. It requires far more humour than those types of people can muster.
