Following the reveal of the final trailer for the Super Mario Bros. movie, Illumination has updated the promotional 'Mario Bros. Plumbing' website. Visit Super Mario Bros. Plumbing
Original story [Mon 13th Feb, 2023 04:05 GMT]:
Nintendo and Illumination have launched a new Super Mario Bros. Movie 30-second commercial recreating the Super Mario Bros. Super Show! cartoon theme song dating back to 1989.
You can watch Mario & Luigi rap and even visit a themed Super Mario Bros. Plumbing website, where you can learn more about their "family-owned and operated" business serving Brooklyn and Queens. There's an "About Us" section on the website as well and some classic references thrown in the customer testimonials. Opening the manhole cover on the main page will unlock a free wallpaper, too.
"About Us: Welcome to Super Mario Bros. Plumbing! We are brothers and yes, we are super. My little (but taller) brother, Luigi, and I were tired of dealing with spiky bosses, so we jumped at the opportunity to take on Brooklyn’s plumbing problems all by ourselves. Family-owned and operated, we aim to one-up the competition with our expert white-glove service. Thanks for checking us out! Mario & Luigi"
There's also a page that gives you an 'Error 404' filled with warp pipes and a career page seeking a dispatcher, bookkeeper, marketing manager, and driver. And last but not least the website is encouraging US fans to "call or text" the following number: 929-55-MARIO.
You'll hear a voice message from Luigi (played by Charlie Day in the film) if you call, and will be linked to a community page if you text, where you can sign up to stay in the loop with exclusive updates.

THEY BROUGHT BACK THE SUPER SHOW THEME!!! I love this so much
Yeah I saw that. Nice to see a nod to the old and still very enjoyable cartoon.
0 stars. Super Mario Bros Plumbing did NOT show up at within the designated window of time. My bank account was drained, my house was foreclosed, and my toilet is still broken. Terrible service. Would not recommend.
“The only thing you haven’t drained is my bank account”
Was that intentional? lol
I love how “cheap” this commercial is. The actress reading the cue cards like she just walked in… the car not landing in Queens. Cheap green screen effects. Spike review bombing their website. The website being intentionally broken. This is great marketing.
I cackled at the jump.man testimonial
That is so awesome.
So glad you mentioned the voice message and calling, I have a feeling some won't call and miss out on that little fun bit. I was like "is this a real number," and called. Kind of made my night!
@Ryu_Niiyama I really loved that charm of it, it just gave me local TV ad vibes.
@Sunsy they spent all the money on the song and cleaning up that kitchen they flooded. The actress was their next door neighbor (being credited as Jeannie Elias, the voice actress for Princess Toadstool in the cartoon).
All that effort and they went with "fixing pipes," and not "laying pipe."
...I guess this is why I will never work at Nintendo.
Nintendo has acknowledged the Super Show... which means it is now canonically part of the Mario Multiverse. Awesome!
The day Nintendo acknowledges Super Show in one of the games is the day I can officially die happy
If you click the manhole cover you get a bowser wallpaper 🙌🏻
okay, I can only be so cynical... this is a pretty impressive piece'a marketing.
Using the Super Show theme hit me just right. I know it’s blatant nostalgia bait, but c’mon, man, that’s so awesome. I can still perform the rap from memory (it’s burned into my brain) and hearing it anew made my day.
It’s also super neat that the phone number actually works. Awesome stuff.
Wowwwww, this was legendary! Brought back so much of my childhood.
This is so much fun! And J love a big interactive website! I really miss those!
What really puts it over for me is that it's Peach's Super Show actress.
Ok now THAT is awesome.
@Lizuka wait REALLY?!?
Is the whole Brooklyn plumbers thing going to be in the actual movie? I can't really tell (but Mario definitely seems to be arriving from outside the Mushroom Kingdom, so.. maybe?). That whole thing was never really relevant to many Mario fans from outside the US (and perhaps both people who saw the live action movie) but as long as the film works, I'm happy.
I loved this, especially the use of the SMB Super Show theme, that show holds a special place in my childhood memories, and the website is great.
@N00BiSH Took the words right out of my mouth.
@hashkey I think so, everything about the movie points towards Mario & Luigi being transported to the Mushroom Kingdom for the first time.
But lol I think it's quite literally going to be the same as the Super Mario Bros Supershow backstory and they'll get sucked into the Mushroom Kingdom via war pipe while doing plumbing.
Is it just me or do the wing mirrors on the van look like an NES?
I love this marketing. Love the site, love the phone message—I’m so hooked on the Brothers now! Speaking of the website, click on the red Call & Text Us Now! icon at the top right, and you’ll hear another easter egg… beyond the NES era!
Looks like the film is set in the late 80’s and 90’s which is delightful, going by the boxy car they pull up behind and the aesthetic to their ad.
Also the kitchen decor and so on! I was wondering that, as the Mushroom Kingdom is somewhat completely unaffected by time.
I recently watched Turning Red by Pixar and had no idea it was set in the very early 2000’s but made for a lot of great gags and nostalgia so hoping for much of the same here before they swiftly transport to the mushroom kingdom.
@SmileMan64
Oh crikey.
How she says 'Bros.' bothers me.
This is probably a clip from the movie before Mario gets into the Mushroom Kindgom. It's a fast way to show what they did for a living.
@PinderSchloss Depends what you talk about. If you say the plumbing pun in-universe, yes.
If you mean how actual Super Mario Bros./Nintendo drain our bank accounts, I don't think so.
SMBP left my house an absolute MESS! I would have given them only 1 star, but my sweet angel of a dog absolutely loved them. He just wouldn’t leave them alone!
Downright amazing, this is marketing done right!
This is amazing!
@CaptChaos I thought that but there are a couple of details that sink that, even ignoring the "meta" things like the website, the woman is clearly using a smartphone. I think the visual and audio effects are "low budget" not "old"
This movie looks like it's going to be alot of fun for old fans and young. Just wonder if Nintendo will change the design of the games on the switch successor to match this movie.
If the Mario Bros are plumbers, then Universal must be carpenters because they nailed that!
@CaptChaos @abe_hikura Yeah that's the one thing that bothers me about this vid. They've definitely gone for an 80s/90s style but the woman is clearly holding a smart-phone.
"Low-budget" videos of the modern day don't have that look to them.
@abe_hikura hello, oh I completely missed the smartphone! Apologies.
@Buizel hello, oh damn I completely missed the Smartphone! D’oh.
I wonder if their experience in the Mushroom Kingdom gives the Brothers their experience and valued reputation they have in the Super Show's Live Action Segments. One would like to think so.
Appliances and video quality kept 80s style, but she still has a smart phone. ^^
Certified Super!
I gotta admit, I had little interest in this movie from the time it was announced and didn't bother watching the trailers; I generally think video game movies are stupid. But I saw this video on Twitter and now I kind of want to see it... I have an attachment to the Super Show lol
I always felt that Chris Pratt’s Mario was channeling the old Mario cartoons and now it’s so cool to see it confirmed. It’s interesting that they really are going for the Mario Bros. being from New York City rather than New Donk City. It’s not really surprising that they used to work for Foreman Spike before quitting and starting their own plumbing business but that confirms that Wrecking Crew predates Mario Bros. Maybe the events of Donkey Kong took place in Wrecking Crew’s setting since Mario was in construction in both games?
Anyway, major props to Nintendo and Illumination referencing the cartoon at all.
Here's some nice easter eggs in that:
The woman in the commercial is voiced by the actress for Princess Toadstool in Super Show.
The website mentions "spiky bosses" and has a 1-star review from "SpikeIsCool" – reference to Foreman Spike, Mario Bros' evil boss from Wrecking Crew.
Is no one talking about the fact that the website acknowledges Mario & Luigi's mom in one of the reviews???
Man, Nintendo and Illumination really do a great job in marketing this film.
friendly reminder that theres a bathroom track coming to mario kart probably
Gaming sites are foaming at the mouth for more Nintendoomed thumbnails and they'll probably get a lot of them just out of this movie. Lol
I have no words...
Okay, I didn't catch the trailer during the game and I don't often seek them out, but I gave this a click..."We're the Mario Bros. and plumbing's our game....!" Whhhaaaaat? That's so awesome! I really loved that show as a kid. It tells me that the people making this movie CARE about it, and I like that. I am super excited!
@Twilite9 All we need is one from their Aunt Luigeena.
I liked the fact that the Super Mario Bros. Super Show Theme was used. It kinda makes me think that Nintendo wants to host a Nintendo Direct with Discotek Media, focusing on their releasing of SD-BDs of the following:
When the commercial is better than anything from the actual movie.....
interesting they went in this direction, as in every other way they've tried to avoid any similarities with the original movie.
@CaptChaos “Looks like the film is set in the late 80’s and 90’s which is delightful, going by the boxy car they pull up behind and the aesthetic to their ad.”
Iphones didn’t exist in the 80’s and 90’s, just huge @$$ PDAs 😂
This is just brilliant. Great marketing for this movie, it's going to be huge! This film is showing so much love for the source material, it'll be really hard to mess it up.
I love everything they've shown of this movie. I just hope it's at least as good as Detective Pikachu... I thought Sonic was awful.
Here we go! (Go)
It's the Mario Brothers and plumbing's their game
Found the secret warp zone while working on the drain
Lend the princess a hand in the mushroom land
Join the action with the plumbers, you'll be hooked on the brothers!
Now...
Evil Koopa and his Troopas are up to misbehavin'
They kidnapped the princess, Mushroom Land needs savin'
Abusin' and confusin', everybody discovers
They can't help but be hooked on the brothers, uh!
@Ryu_Niiyama That's a really cool thing to know. Definitely going to tell my two friends, they love voice acting trivia like that. Thanks!
This is very Epic, Love it!!!! Can't wait for the movie
Aw this is sick! If they're putting all this effort & love into what's basically just an ad, then I have high hopes for this movie.
Also in the thumbnail I thought Luigi had angel wings.
Super Mario Bros Plumbing Van from Hot Wheels — when?
@KingMike Nice job, now how about at the end...
DO THE MARIO!
Swing your arms from side-to-side
Come on, it's time to go do the Mario
Take one step and then again
Let's do the Mario - all together now!
Ha ha, I am loving this!
Captian Lou Albano and Danny Wells would be proud.
@Savage_Joe ‘Ello, ah I know I completely missed the iPhone. I was just taking the website with a pinch of salt too for PR. I’m a tad disappointed it’s not set back then to be honest.
I was blinded by desire haha.
The attention to detail is insane, so much so that I can't help wondering if Spike saying "SUBPAR" in his review is a reference to his appearance in Mobile Golf !
If you click on the pipes, a warp pipe sound will play, and if you get lucky, a remix of the ground theme will play too!
@CaptChaos Honestly, I think it is just set in a "timeless" fictional setting, where it just isn't analagous to the real world - think of Batman The Animated Series where everything looks like it's from the 1930's/40's but they still have computers and laser guns. They are just leaning into a certain aesthetic that is heavily associated with NYC where a lot of older buildings will have fittings/appliances like that anyway.
This is some pretty impressive marketing!
@BrianJL cheers for the reply, yeah good point regarding it existing in its own unique world in which it can just pull from all sources of inspiration unrelated to time periods. Keeps the doors open for ‘anything goes’.
Have a good day.
And again, they NAILED every part of the trailer. Well done, really hyped about this movie.
EVERYONEs loving the smbss rap. This made my day
For some reason it's now started redirecting me to the German version of the site every time I visit it?
@Dogorilla Not sure why, in my case it does redirect me, but to the Italian version which makes sense since I'm from Italy.
@JohnnyMind Hmm, maybe the site is somehow misinterpreting my location as Germany then. It wasn't doing that before this update so I'm not sure why it would do that or how to change it.
