Re: Feature: 22 Games With 'Secret' Performance Bumps You Should Revisit On Switch 2

Civ6 loads so much faster on Switch 2. I really loved playing it hotseat but the load times started bad and got worse as the game went on, as did the CPU turns (I ended up buying the complete edition on Xbox because of the slowness) but on Switch 2, they are drastically cut down.

Hyrule Warriors 1 seems to run flawlessly and the resolution seems better (i believe it was dynamic before, so that makes sense)

I've yet to test it myself but my friend says Monster Hunter Rise is improved and improved loading is "fantastic".

Mechanically and conceptually, I really like this. That price is very nice.

Problem 1: I'm not super into online anymore.
Problem 2: This seems like a game that's way more fun with friends, mine don't have Switch 2's yet.
Problem 3: It seems so devoid of charm. Splatoon sold me basically on vibes, this is the exact oppersite.

I really like the design. They could have just done what they normally do and just make her squatter and call it a day but she's got new hair, freckles, a new outfit that both harkens to her "future" design whilst being different and in keeping with this game's feel.

Re: Nintendo Updates Switch 2 Backwards Compatibility List

@SpacedDuck There's a whole lot of "depends".

Any game with unlocked framerates or using a dynamic resolution should run better/more consistently than on Switch 1 because the dips are caused by it running out of resources (or spending them elsewhere), which the Switch 2 has more of.

If memory serves, DOOM Eternal has an unlocked FPS with a target of 30FPS, and has dynamic resolution that starts at 720p and drops to something like 500 when things get busy. On Switch 2 that should consistently hit its 720p/30fps targets without a patch.

Digital games should also load much faster (as the old SD/Storage speeds were a reported bottleneck on S1).

@donv2135 I have been repeating that every time the Game Keys pop up. If you want the game but don't want Game Keys, buy it digitally.

I get the desire to boycott those game entirely but we saw this with the Wii U and the "gimped ports" one, if people aren't buying games on Switch 2, then publisher wont look for reasons they will just stop supporting it.

Re: Xbox's Latest Multiplatform Release Has Been Announced

I wouldn't be suprised if Xbox is just waiting for the Switch 2 install base to build up a little. The whole point of this initiative is to earn them more money and at launch Switch 2 users aren't going to be enough to cover porting. Once the Switch 2 gets established I expect we'll see lots of X1 ports.

Re: Talking Point: Will You Be Buying Any Game-Key Card Switch 2 Games?

abe_hikura

It's going to depend very much on the game, based on the current listings Game-Keys will be the same price as their digital versions.

Whilst I prefer them to Code in a Box, I will be trying to avoid them generally. However, there are three types of games I can see myself getting Game-Keys for.

1. Games that are constantly updated, like Street Fighter 6, a "proper card" is going to be out of date anyway.
2. Games I know my kids are going to want to steal when they have their own Switch 2 (probably Lites), the new virtual card system is good, but this does the same without requiring me or my device to do it.
3. Games I'm not confident I'm going to enjoy, being able to resell it if I don't like it is a nice advantage vs digital (I can always sell it when the digital version is cheap).

And of course, the universal 0 rule, if I see a bargain!

Re: Sonic X Shadow Generations Is Confirmed As A Launch Title For Switch 2

I think third parties are going to be the big test for Switch 2 updates. Like I can't imagine this is going to be doing much more than just running better, and I could see some hefty push back at the idea that this is a paid upgrade vs something like Pokemon doing the same thing for "free" Like I don't like the idea that CIV7 is basically charging for mouse support (beyond the usual improvements) but it is something

*I understand the packaged Switch 2 edition comes with the DLC so that makes some sense.
