@electrolite77 agreee one of the big things when I got my Series X was discovering that a bunch of little hangs ups was 100% loading related. Like 76's crafting menus was slow and clunky on X1X I thought it was the games online nature but on series X the appeared instantly.
I bought the first Switch game pretty much to play in tabletop with my brother in the car whilst we waited for school pick up, I think I'll pick this up for the sake of the nostalgia.
@WhiteTrashGuy I honestly don't get the level of hate the Key-Cards are getting. Like it's an infinitely better solution than those "code in a box" games and certainly better than not having any physical version at all. I mean they are even priced differently to games that are "all on the card".
As I've said elsewhere, I would be shocked if physical pricing doesn't get lower as time goes on, eventually matching the digital price (as RRP). The Switch Tax basically disappeared once the cards got cheap enough to make, I'm sure once most of the manufacturing moves to Switch 2, the Switch 2 tax will do the same shrivelling.
"It wows when you go back to the old Switch" To be fair I had a very similar experience with Series X. Everything just felt the same. Basically, the same controller, same UI, and mostly the same games that just looked better and loaded faster but going back to the X1X to set it up for my daughter brought all the improvements into sharp focus and now you'll have to pry Quick Resume out of my cold dead hands.
@IronMan30 It is worth noting both Bravely and SF6 are both "key card" games. I wouldn't be surprised if those aren't actually Switch 2 card (which are supposedly bigger/faster) and are just S1 Cards thus making it cheaper.
I keep seeing people being very angry about the digital price, maybe it's a US thing but here in the UK Mario Kart World is £67 digital, Assassin's Creed Shadows on Xbox store is £69.99. God Of War Ragnorok on the PS Store is £69.99. The "expensive" Switch 2 game is below the price of AAA games on other consoles.
Physically MKW seem to be £5 higher than PS5/Xbox retail (think Indy Jones on PS5 is £69.99 at argos) which reminds me of the "Switch Tax" on the original Switch, I wouldn't be surprised if the physical prices end up being the same as digital once they get those Switch 2 cards flowing.
Don't get me wrong, it would be nice if the full game was on the card but I do prefer this to a code in a box, as this at least seems to let me lend the actual thing and the game will work for them.
I hope this one fits better, age of Calamity went all alt timeline on us which was so frustrating these setting don't need any nonsense to make them extra relevant, just tell the story.
If memory serves, only Halo 1-4 were included in the original release, ODST and Reach were added later as DLC (or free as part of Gamepass), so I'm guessing that's what they mean here (and probably by extension the PS5 port)
If they had said connects to an app on your phone I'd find it easier to believe but an old gen console? Something that has more games use the feature the harder it'll be to get hold of.
That being said might make sense if they have some sort of Switch equivalent to the N2DSXL
I want to be interested but how many times have we see this story "original X game developer is now indie and making a spiritual sequel to X" and then the game is either poor (Mighty 9) or fine but not as good as the games that spawned it (don't get me wrong no small part of that is rose tinted).
I do remain slightly sceptical that "mouse mode" is actually a mouse mode. Don't get me wrong that would be amazing and that patent sure looked like using one Joycon for movement and another as a mouse BUT knowing Nintendo is just as likely it's not actually a "mouse mode" and instead limited to just emulating touch screen whilst the console is docked
@Slobbert Probably is but considering how much less my money stretches year on year the "better screen and larger battery(compared to day1)" just wasn't enough to justify it vs using those funds elsewhere.
This made me realise this is the first Nintendo "handheld" I didn't replace or upgrade.
GB-Pocket-Color GBA-GBA SP DS-DSLite
Well done my day 1 Switch, you have served me well... No idea what's going to come of you, I fear trapped in the Labo fishing game that my daughter loves (and is upset doesn't "work" with the lite) 3DS-N3DS
I don't see a decent way of playing 3DS games on Switch, even putting the console in "tate" would work well (though would for DS) so I'd prefer "native" ports, basically replacing the Wii U ports from the Switch 1.
@nomither6 I am almost certain the Switch 2's colour is intended to help make it look different to Switch 1 (avoiding a Wii U situation), and it'll either come in other colours at launch (like the Switch 1 was launched in grey/Red and Blue) but the "black" one being the "face" or will appear for Christmas.
I think for me the bigger red flag is the vouchers not ending outright, just for Switch 2 exclusives. Again get the reason (particularly if the standard RRP is higher) but it could imply that the Switch 2 will have a separate eShop and that means we have to worry about that shutting down in 5 years
This sort of thing always happens when a new generation rolls around. Not saying it's "good" just expected.
I remember Xbox and Sony not offering new-gen games with their monthly sub at launch, only adding them later when sales of launch title sales had completely stalled out and the new-gen exclusive library had gotten bigger.
I expect some new rewards program to roll around a year or so down the line.
Played CIV6 alot on Switch for a good while before the loading drove us to the brink of madness and a well timed mega sale on Xbox ended it.
It looks like it's running a lot faster, I really want this one Switch but I do feel like I need to know what the "deal" is going to be with Switch 2. Will there be S2 natvie port, will there be a next gen update, or will it just run better by virtue of the better hardware.
It is the traditional next gen issue. You need exclusive content to sell you new platform but you can't ignore that existing user base (in this case 160 million) of paying customers.
My only worry is here's us thinking mouse as control input and then theres Nintendo only thinking about it as a way of using the touch screen even when its docked.
I was playing around with the joycons earlier and tried using it as a mouse, not once did I put my thumb on the stick in doing so.
Obviously, the Switch 2 joycons are different size/shape and that "foot" is going to have some effect but having your thumb that far down seems, unstable.
@Anachronism To be fair I don't think theres ever been a Direct announced that far ahead, normally its a few days maybe a week.
Wait.... Wasn't there a random Direct dropped right before an E3 Direct once?(think it was the puppet one) And everyone was surprised because the E3 Direct was rather light and could have done with the content from the Direct.
I do really like the idea of a Switch having a final Direct. The console gets it's last sprint to the finish line, and they give it some celebration, look back at the games that came out for it, look at all the special editions and end with some tease for the April event.
I do think it would be a good time to revive Nintendo Selects for Switch games (excluding games that get Switch 2 upgrades, assuming that's a thing)
@HeadPirate Thats a different kind of VR tracking and now not how inside-out tracking works on devices like the Quest. It uses multiple cameras to track IR LED hidden in the controllers and combines that with data from the accelerometers.
The base stations method is more accurate but expensive and requires extra hardware, inside out tacking just needs IR capable cameras and IR LEDs.
Atelier is always one of those seires that seems interesting that I just never have time to get into but this looks like it might scratch some specific itchs I've been having so I might have to pick it up.
At this point I have assume they want to get shut down for the publicity because I refuse to believe anyone who has put that much effort in has somehow missed how protctive Nintendo is of its content.
Coming soon to a crowd funding site: their completely original "spiritual successor" movie that they can fully monetise.
I think the leaks were more impactful this time, last time we had rough drawings of the "NX" whereas here we saw the actual Switch 2 controller, complete with the inverted colour scheme.
If the reveal was more than a teaser it wouldn't have mattered as much, but the fact we "knew" the name, the size, the colour, the logo, the dock, meant the tease didn't tease, it confirmed
Between the apparent player bump and the apparent scale of that road, I wouldn't be surprised if they keep the graphics "current gen" to allow those other two bits.
All the character designs invoke some sort of SNES era nostalgia I can't quite place. For example Peach's silhouette kinda "boxy" like it was in the SNES games
For what it was, a teaser, it was great and I loved the whimsy of it. It didn't feel like it was doing anything but having fun.
Within the larger context, after all the leaks and how long we have to wait for the direct, it was underwhelming. Even the reverse "colour on the inside" had been spoiled long before we saw the trailer
@johnvboy Indeed as much as I like the idea of the "Super Nintendo Switch" so I can say SNS like SNES, this is for the best after the Wii U and "new" 3DS game confusions.
See I wouldn't be surprised if the thinking by Nintendo was 'this way games can "use the touchscreen" even when docked', and Nintendo is caught off guard with us going "year mouse aiming FPS" and "yeah we can play proper RTS"
