This is the right call, the only reason they've been able to keep their annual release it because it wasn't actually one game releasing every year its was 4 different games taking turns.
MW3 should have already killed this idea of back to back releases.
@MojoMonkey98 From what someone else said the Switch 2 version is a separate thing from the anniversary edition, which was an add-on to the original release. So in theory... MAYBE, buying the Anniversary DLC should give us access to the digital Switch 2 version, but it very much needs testing to confirm. It might be like Hogwarts, where you had to access the store via the physical game to see the offer.
How much can it be disassembled? I wonder how hard it would be to redo the artwork yourself.
EDIT: The Amazon page seems to show the separate parts, wouldn't be difficult to replace the top and side artwork, but it looks like the fight stick is fully integrated with the front, so you'd have to work around that.
hmmm.. I purposely avoiding buying this on Xbox because of Switch 2 mouse mode... so now I'm not sure. Being portable is certainly a big win but so is the better performance.
I guess its a race between the devs confirming mouse mode and an Xbox sale
Like many I really like the gameplay, both the battling and the "cozy stuff" but the city isn't grabbing me. Most of the "Wild Zones" are just bits of the city that has more pokemon and not interesting places to explore/visit. (I do like it is acknowledged in game that its not a great idea)
Seems to be what I was expecting. The city setting is weak, but the combat is strong.
I still don't understand why they made this subseries that made its name being A) in the past and B) about exploration, and shoved it in a city in the modern day.
I was annoyed because this is the sort of thing I prefer to play on Switch, but it wasn't, so I bought it (on sale) on Xbox, and then it got announced for Switch.
I'm glad we're starting to see some more experimental Trek games (bbeen way too many mobile nonsense). We have that Voyager rouge-like, a VR survival horror
@Shepdawg1 same sort of thing here. given a straigth choice between a GK and Digital game I will probably pick the digital unless its a game that my kids will want to play too (woo lending) or one I'm not too sold on (woo resale), but I will not turn my nose up at saving money (GKs go on sale with some frequency, and stuff like Street Fighter you save money picking up the GK even at full RRP)
What I don't understand is the folks who want Code in a Box instead. Like, I get the argument it's pure digital, so they don't have to carry the card around just to access the digital version... but the pure digital copies haven't gone anywhere, they can still pick that up.
Art wise that looks fantastic but a lot of these AC "inspired" games fail at emulating how AC deals out its content over time and you end up seeing all they have to offer you on a week or so.
@Whirlwound "A second Kirby Air Riders Direct? That’s just greedy, Sakurai-kun."
That was my thought. That first direct sure felt... extensive. Just what is there left to talk about? It's... just going to be Sakurai making jokes isn't it?
I was 100% sure this was a bit like they was going to reveal an 3D screen add-on to play VB games and then go "since we have a 3D screen, might aswell have some 3DS games" or something.
Whilst most of these I'm not that interested in I do like they came back with this sort of stuff and not promising to bolt even more AAs on reboots of ancient IP.
Granted, part of that is that all their IP got sold, but still.
I'm not expecting anything like Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, or a major Mario title for this year or early next.
These are system-selling games, and right now Nintendo can't keep up with the demand for it being "new" and this Christmas is going to be the gift, no point in dropping those hype nukes yet.
Based on my play time in the test, I think the controls just don't matter; you could give this the most amazing regular controls ever devised, and it wouldn't do a thing.*
The game is just completely devoid of any personality, style, or charm, and it's particularly off-putting for the house of Mario and Splatoon to release something with such devoid of visual creativity.
@MTMike87 It is such a weird move. Get the prequel game, give it an english dub using the cast from the latest entries to make it an easier entry point... then just don't for Yakuza 1 and 2?
Perticaully wild since Kiwami version of 1 feels like a part 2 to zero.
@Suketoudara oh certainly, which I'm guessing was their point of telling their shareholders to calm down. Animal Crossing has always done well, but the Switch one did insane numbers that just aren't likely to happen whenever the sequel comes out on Switch 2.
I still remember the likes of Amazon and Netflix almost cackling during the COVID boom, they were so convinced they just locked in millions of new customers forever, and then you had Nintendo (and a few others) going "this is a blip, we should expect things to drop back down later".
Kinda suprised we're getting another direct after the Indie and Partner shows.
I have never played the original, not even sure I've seen more than a couple of screenshots. It's been interesting watching the new one, prompting one of two responses "What game was that? Oh that thing", and "hell yeah! can't believe we're getting a sequel, give it to me now!."
I plan on getting this but I suspect it wont be till Christmas at this point, I have Grand Bazare on the way, and still have Yakuza 0 and Bravely Default to finish from launch.
I think this might be proof that DKB made me actively like DK because before I wouldn't have looked at this twice, now... I'm working out how many prints this would take on my printer.
*For clarification, I've played and enjoyed most of the other DK games.
I had high hopes of this being the defiantive way for me to play my insane little universe modes without hogging the TV and boring the family, but not being able to access the community creations that use custom uploads is crippling.
Sounds great for everyone else, but the community creations thing is huge for a lot of the player base, throw in it being full price when heavily discounted on other platforms, and arriving long after the other versions, and I suspect we might not see more WWE.
Don't get me wrong, that's all very cool and I do love 8Bitdo's pads (currently using their adapter to use my Wii U pro pad on Switch 2, Yakuza 0 felt a little dicey on the joycons.) but their prices sure have been creeping up and up over the years. I used to recommend their pads as "almost as good as official pads but much cheaper"
Obviously, some games just can't work without their online component. Still, there are plenty of these online-only games that could work offline, and conveniently enough, Nintendo has set a precedent on mobile for what to do when a free-to-play title ends with Animal Crossing Pocket Camp.

Re: CRKD Announces The 'Nitro Deck 2', Compatible With Switch And Switch 2
Cool but I'll least for there to be more colours. I liked the gamecube one for S1.

Re: Ongoing MicroSD Shortages Could Have A Knock-On Effect For Switch 2 Storage Availability
Man, the prices on tech is getting so screwy, first GPUs went up, then RAM went insane, and now SDs are following suit.

Re: Surprise! Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Is Available Now On Switch & Switch 2
I like that they are doing stacking discounts.
buy on launch, 10%off
have the 1-3 Remaster, another 10% off
have the 4-6 remaster, another 10% off.
Re: Pokémon Pokopia Is Seemingly Nintendo's First Game-Key Card Release
I guess this comes down to the fact that Nintendo isn't publishing it everywhere; it makes sense that PKK Company cuts a corner.

Re: Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition Brings The Apocalypse To Switch 2 In 2026
@Daimando With how far out 5 is, I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't being saved for later. Either dropping the originals or remasters
Re: Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition Brings The Apocalypse To Switch 2 In 2026
Will likely pick this up, wonder if it has mod support since it evidently based on the latest version of it.
I really enjoyed playing Skyrim Anniversary Edition with all the creation content integrated in, would love to do the same with Fallout on Switch 2.
Though I think that "150" number might be misleading, as the dog breeds and weapon/armour paints are available separately and together.

Not sure if it's been noted, but the other versions are also shutting down then. So it's not about the Switch version specifically.

@AstroTheGamosian, that made me remember its far, far, far less successful cousin, Innocent Life: a Futuristic Harvest Moon
Re: No Switch 2 "Upgrade Path" For Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined Planned
I wonder what SE has against the upgrade path?
I'm guessing it's so we don't buy the S1 version for our collections and then get the upgrade leaving the S2 version on the store shelf.

@IOI I'm guessing they aren't going to talk about Mario Kart World before Air Riders launches.
Re: Dragon Quest VII Gets Reimagined For Switch And Switch 2 In Early 2026
II don't know why, but I kinda hate that it looks like that.
I get it's honouring the original artsyle, but we already had a remake doing that on the 3DS.
I also hate that I'm still going to be playing it again.
Re: Virtual Boy Is Being Added To Nintendo Switch Online
Additional: I kinda wish this wasn't a NSO thing. Like you bought the accessory and you hot the games on a card.
Like I understand the NSO controllers are best used in their NSO apps, you can still use them on other games. This is only useful with the NSO app.
Re: Virtual Boy Is Being Added To Nintendo Switch Online

Re: Random: Donkey Kong Bananza's Idle Animations Are Outrageously Cute
Its the same with the dance sequences, at the start she's actively scared DK's going to crush her, by the end of the game she's synced up with him.
I ended up really enjoying their dynamic.
