The tactical RPG series Fire Emblem is returning early next year on the Switch with the new game Fire Emblem Engage.
In the lead-up to its release, Intelligent Systems and Nintendo have been slowly sharing more footage and information about the characters and gameplay in this new entry. The latest news drop focuses on the new monk character Framme - Clan's younger twin sister.
Here's the translation (via the Fire Emblem fan website Serenes Forest), including a look at her in battle:
"Framme (Sayaka Senbongi) is a 33rd generation Dragon Guardian, protecting the Divine Dragon at the Land of Lythos. She’s Clan’s younger twin sister and more determined and lively compared to her brother."
And in case you missed it, here is a bit about the mage Clan, who was revealed last week. Serene Forest explains how the final name of this character hasn't been locked in just yet. 'Cramme' is this site's own translation:
"For the record, we don’t know what his English name is. In the Japanese version, his name is Kuran (Clan etc.). But considering his sister was renamed from Furan (Fran) to Framme, I tried to do something similar."
And here's the character's description:
"Clan (Kōhei Amasaki) is a 33rd generation Dragon Guardian, protecting the Divine Dragon at the Land of Lythos, alongside Vander. He is Framme’s older twin brother and was by Alear’s side when they awoke. A gentle priest who serves–and is also a fan of–Alear."
These characters follow on from the reveal of a high-ranking knight/paladin named Vander and the game's protagonist Alear. Marth and Celica are returning, too. You can learn a bit more about these other characters in our previous coverage here on Nintendo Life:

I wonder if that's just pronounced "Fram" and "Cram" or if it's "Fram-Ay" and "Cram-Ay" or "Frame" and "Crame."
I member when characters used to look cool
Both characters looks like girl to me.
Just because the main characters doesn’t look the best doesn’t mean everyone else is just automatically going to suck. They look fine, I personally like there designs.
Don't need to see much else. I'm ready for day 1.
Holy cow those effects look so much better than Three Houses! Honestly their character designs don’t bother me at all
I’ll get day 1. Like how the gameplay looks in motion more then 3H did.
I was looking forward to having a home console FIre Emblem that I would enjoy after loving Path of Radiance, but Three Houses didn't do it for me and Fire Emblem: Greatest Hits isn't doing it for me either. Shame.
I'm just not feeling some of these character designs...and I usually never have a problem with Fire Emblem art styles
@Vil You must of completely forgot about Mario Strikers, Mario Kart 8 DLC and Mario+Rabbids. It funny how you complain about the lack of Mario related content but we gotten 3 things this year with Mario so I don't understand the issue with that at all. I do agree they other franchises need to come back but hey you can't always get everything in life.
@Vil
Xenoblade only has three games on Switch and Fire Emblem only has two--four if you count the Warriors spin-offs.
Meanwhile for Mario alone there's...
Super Mario Odyssey
Super Mario Maker 2
Super Mario Party
Mario Party Superstars
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Mario Tennis Aces
Mario Golf Super Rush
New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe
Super Mario 3D All Stars
Paper Mario: The Origami King
I get it if you don't like Fire Emblem, but please don't act as if there aren't plenty of other games to play on Switch. No one's forcing you to buy FE games.
@JR150 It seems I strung a nerve with my comment. Sorry about that, but please calm down, we're all friends here. I totally understand where you're coming from and I should've clarified that I meant the mainline series and not ports or spinoffs. If you only count those, then it's pretty much only Breath of the Wild and Odyssey. I also never said I didn't like Fire Emblem nor that anyone is forcing me to do anything, but if that's what was implied, I apologize.
@Vil Other 1st-party games since Three Houses came out in July 2019 that you've overlooked:
It's fine if you don't like Fire Emblem, Xenoblade, or Pokémon, but it takes a mighty selective memory to think that Nintendo hasn't published other "absolute bangers".
@ZZalapski I get it. I went too far.
Was definitely a bit bitter today, so I think I'll remove my comments actually. I'm really sorry, everyone.
Well, this sure was a new experience for me. I do like to be open and express my own views and opinions, but I do agree I definitely went too far over the line this time. Has never happened before and won't happen again. Sorry, folks. I don't want to spread hate for things you love ...
I'm liking the character designs so far. Day 1 buy for me.
@Vil No offense taken on my part, and I'm sorry that you had a rough day. I don't think people meant to pile on you personally, it's just that it was suboptimal phrasing that was easy to counter.
@ZZalapski Yup. I kind of dove in to the shark tank with this one ...I do like these games on occasion and I don't want to hate on anyone who loves them. There is too much hate in the world and sometimes you get caught up in it when you're not the right state of mind. That's what happened here today, but I take it as a very valuable learning experience ...So it's all good, if all the others could forgive my trespassing.
I haven't followed the info about this game closely. Can someone tell me why the subtitle is "Meet Framme and her twin brother" instead of something like "Meet Framme and Cramme"?
Day 1 buy day 1 buy he's too adorable.
Pre-ordered. Yeah, the character design does nothing for me (don't like or dislike it tbf) but I want it for the strategy, not the playing with dolls.
Minus the protagonist the art style isn't putting me off. Even if I prefer three house's take I do like how this one looks visually.
The character design is totally fine. I am starting to really look forward to this game.
@Liam_Doolan Would it have really been so hard to put Cramme's name in the title description too? This is just pure misandry. Ninendo's description is sexist enough as it is. Furthermore, no twin wants to be known simply as "their twin's brother".
@Chocobo_Shepherd Sexism.
@Chocobo_Shepherd @ThePizzaCheese According to Serenes Forest, the twin brother's name is tentative. So that's why the name was left out of the tagline. I've updated the post to reflect this.
https://serenesforest.net/2022/09/23/fire-emblem-engage-cramme-tidbits-via-twitter/
I've also seen the official FE account and other websites referring to him as 'Clan' (source: Perfectly-Nintendo). We might just have to wait for an official western reveal at this stage to find out the final name. Localisation might also mean it's different.
@Liam_Doolan Ah okay, that makes a bit more sense. I appreciate you updating the article, but it still seems a bit unclear that's the reason his name was left out of the subtitle.
And as a twin myself, I can tell you it's super annoying to be referred to that way. Maybe it would be better simply not included either of their names in the subtitle at all?
Also, both Cramme and Clan are probably just two different ways to translate the Japanese name. R and L are used to translate the same Japanese character, as are M and N. So I doubt the name is tentative and is more of a localization thing, like you said.
EDIT: Looks much better now, thank you, I really appreciate that.
i see this is another hit "completely normal article has bizarrely volatile comments" moment
The combat and animations look really smooth. It feels a bit as if they went back to what worked in the 3DS instalments. Really looking forward to this new game. This will be a day 1 buy for me, one of the few. Hoping I can get my hands on a Limited Edition!
I really wish I knew why I'm not feeling this. I love Fire Emblem and bought all the games since we started getting them again, but for some reason, this just leaves me completely cold.
@Vil I didn't see your initial comment, but don't be so hard on yourself. You can't please everyone, and if the worst thing you do is trigger a handful of people over a gaming opinion, I think you're doing pretty well for yourself. I've been mobbed way worse plenty of times on the internet, lol. But at the end of the day, if my intentions weren't to deliberately provoke people, I've tried to learn to accept the inevitability that someone will get upset at me for what I have to say, no matter how carefully I phrase it. It doesn't make you a bad person.
@ThePizzaCheese it was clear to me when I read it but I don’t have a twin so I’m less sensitive on the subject.
Got to say though, I feel like an apology to Liam is in order. Calling him sexist and a misandrist based on your misreading of the article was a bit much.
@Vil What @Not_Soos said, please don’t be to hard on yourself, wile I too didn’t see the comment, You sound like a nice guy gal person, so please don’t be to hard on yourself.
@Kid_Sickarus
Yeah, to be fair you don't need to be a twin to be identified as just someone else's sibling, but for some reason it happens a lot with twins. People seem to always think of twins as a unit for some reason, and not as individuals. If I'm being honest, even "meet the twins" is still a little irritating, but given the circumstances it makes sense. Plus I've already made enough fuss about it already and Liam has been very accommodating.
Also, the article was much less clear before, it didn't say anything about his name not being official yet. But you're right, he wasn't intending to be sexist and I apologies. Sorry @Liam_Doolan.
@ThePizzaCheese I can imagine it must be very frustrating to not always be seen as an individual.
I have three younger sisters- 2 are doctors and 1 is a CEO, I get the comparison bit but at least I can be a disappointment on my own terms >_<
It's mostly just the Colgate man that I don't dig. The rest of the cast I have no problem with. Super pumped though! Bring on January!
@somebread People are allowed to have differing opinions. You shouldn't discredit or shame people for not having the same opinion as you.
@abe_hikura Probably because it doesn't have the same grandiose style or "matured" art style of Three Houses. It's very clean, very bright/colorful and leans a bit more into "anime" territory. Also it's kinda gimmicky (with the calling of past heros stuff) and the name is kinda "mobile gamish".
That said the visuals of the character models and effects have definitely improved. Personally I'll have to wait for reviews for this one
I'm not feeling these designs. If someone told me these were from Xenoblades Chronicles or Genshin Impact I would believe them. It's too anime for my taste. I prefer the more down to earth style from Shadows of Valentia.
@Liam_Doolan Thanks very much for the clarification. ^_^ I was really confused!
PS - also good of you to update the subtitle.
@Vil I like your response, mate. It was the mature thing to say, even if it was mostly misunderstanding.
I see what you mean though. I wonder when they will announce the next Mario game, eh?
FE Connect... I’m going to try and buy it 2nd hand. It looks really solid, but the tone and design are offensive to my senses.
This comment section went sideways for a second.
For whatever reason I never felt the urge to get Three Houses, but this game seems to speak to me in a way that one didn't & I'm seriously thinking about picking it up.
While the main character looks a bit silly, so far I don't have a problem with anyone else (& even then I think the female version of the MC pulls off the look better than the male version).
I suggest everyone go back and rewatch the reveal trailer for Three Houses and then immediately watch the reveal trailer for this one and perhaps you can see why some of us were 😞 with this one's particular reveal
https://youtu.be/rkux5h0PeXo
I personally think Framme is kawaii. Her brother is definitely super unfortunately feminine looking so my condolences to him. 🤣
@Bizzyb That might have just pinged something, that this game reads like it's connected to the mobile game. Not narratively or anything but like how Lets go Pikachu/Eevee was their attempt at converting Go players to Switch players.
@abe_hikura Ever since they merged their Handheld and Console Development teams into one release pipeline, they have been "geniuses" at filling their gaps with Switch game launches 😅
and I'll just leave it at that
Basically doujinshi bait characters. Well it's worked wonders for Genshin Impact.
@N8tiveT3ch Define "cool."
The more footage I see of the game, the more excited I get. There is no strategy RPG bar Shining Force that can hold a candle to FE for me. The cutesy aesthetic of the character design still isn't my taste, but the game looks like an absolute blast. It looks like it has unlockable outfits too, and that's a big sell for me in any game.
They look like Atelier characters but I don't mind.
@Bizzyb think you may have misinterpreted my comment here, referring to the first ~28 comments consisting of accusations and apologies :V
@xjulianvel The older I get the definition changes and I tend to be wrong most of the time.
They look kinda meh (though most characters look great minus the MC) but damn I am really liking the camera work for crits. This looks amazing.
I just don't understand why this game looks like a mobile game
There's just something about Engage that I really like. I haven't been this excited for FE since Awakening!
@somebread If so, my bad. I'm still hoping the game will be great, just not getting that initial hype/excitement I got with Three Houses.
