It definitely seems like a lot of people are overlooking some genuinely interesting games. A new game from the creator of the stanley parable, Cairn looks great and so did Neva, the Alan wake DLC looked gorgeous. Day of the devs had many good announcements too, such as Pheonix Springs
Played the original on a game trial, the co-op was an absolute blast. I didnt finish the story and I see the criticisms of it but from what I played I kind of liked how cheesy and over the top it was. I'm interested in this one, depending on the price
I think the problem for me is that often the more free approach leads to bosses just being damage sponges that rarely have much spectacle unless you put in the time to make an elaborate trap or set up (thats normally outclassed in every way by simply having a better weapon and whacking them whenever). A set strategy can lead to difficulty, whilst still maintaining that spectacle such as most older zeldas or hollow knight
@The_Dragons_Mouth From what I can tell, splatoon seems to be mostly played by 11-17 year olds, with it resonating with later teens especially. The audience is more than old enough for a question like this, 'the end of the world' has been done in countless kids movies before
@Yoshif3 If you take his word for fact, he also mentioned how zelda was as important to his childhood as star wars, noting how he was a major fan of both. I really think that the director being a fan is the one thing we dont have to worry about.
@Yoshif3 Given that he was tweeting about wanting to do a zelda movie 10 years ago I very much doubt hes a new fan regardless of whether TotK is his favourite or not.
This was a lovely read. Its interesting how different genres of video games create a different feel within everybody, a different internal meaning to a menial task. In the same way you found racing and many people use cosy games, plenty will find refuge in rising to the top of games like Street Fighter or Smash Bros or find themselves immersed in narrative tales that resonate with them like Life Is Strange. For me, the ever whimsical and over the top worlds of games like Professor Layton or Katamari Damacy let me forget about real life logic and sink into eccentricity, and it feels nice. Things dont need to make sense in games like that. Thank you for writing this article, video games are a wonderful thing.
Whether the movie will be good or not is something we cant know yet, everything the director has said does make me confident. At the least its someone who seems to have a heavy respect for the games
I absolutely adored the studios last game Going Under, and will absolutely be picking this one up when i have more time in a few weeks. Very talented dev studio and from their response on the discord they seem to be very on top of the bugs/performance situation. Cannot wait to play.
@Diogmites There are 6 main series Layton games (4 on DS, 2 on 3DS) and 3 major spinoffs of which only one has been released on switch, being Katrielle Layton and the Millionaire's Conspiracy. As of yet no collections have been released on switch, despite the original trilogy having HD remasters on mobile in recent years. We can hope for a switch release still, but otherwise we are getting the first new mainline game in a decade next year!
@AJWolfTill Thats exactly what I was thinking when reading it, and I couldn't find any record of said interview view online... Just didnt want to cause offence to the original commenter. But 1 year for development? Absolutely ridiculous, although gave me and a friend of mine a good laugh
@JohnnyMind No problem! Their previous game ('Going Under' - a roguelite) was also fairly difficult but had a similar range of options and was excellently polished and designed in my opinion. I'm looking forward to seeing what they create here!
For anyone interested, as stated this is a soulslike so by default is difficult but the devs have a genuinely excellent options menu to decrease the challenge to your preferred method of play. Including just straight up giving the crab a gun that one shots anything for people particularly struggling.
@rjejr Roguelites/likes are generally designed with the knowledge they'll be replayed. I wouldn't pass it off as repetitive before the full review is even out, as more often than not they design several tricks, surprises and interesting boss fights and ideas to prevent it from becoming stale.
@bluemage1989 Its as purely simple as it seems, just fun. For people who make cosplays its an incredibly creative and rewarding process both just to see yourself as the character and see others reaction to your work. For others, it can be amazing to see the characters youve fallen in love with on screen come to life through the incredible skill and effort of someone with a true love for the franchise. Its just beautiful dedication through and through, made for fun rather than money and one that brings joy to others around you at Comic Cons.
I really underestimated how fast they would go out of stock, first amiibo im trying to buy. Anyone know if they'll continuously restock for a few days or is there not really any point in trying anymore?
Weirdly enough, this actually makes more sense to me. We've seen sheikah use disappearance multiple times before, what with monks at the end of shrines disappearing and their entire ability to teleport or disappear entirely in combat. I hadnt considered the idea of just 'disappearance' but i can imagine the tech turning into little blue sparks and floating away
Im surprised there was no mention of the story here, because while minimal I've been very pleasantly surprised by it. Its genuinely interesting and adds a good reason for the characters designs.
@Ryu_Niiyama I'll have you know I am very much dying to play something like this, despite having no experience/nostalgia for JSR. I think this looks absolutely brilliant
I wouldn't be surprised if they announce DLC when this game wins Game of the Year this november. I personally think i will absolutely be picking up that zelda amiibo as my first one, looks stunning
