@Res462 The analogy is still the same. They bought a series of ton of studios and subsidiary brands within the entertainment industry. It’s the same Microsoft is trying to do with Activision-Blizzard. Technically we don’t know if it would’ve been illegal for Disney to acquire Fox News/Business… they just chose to pick the path of least resistance and not buy that part. It would have been illegal to acquire the prime time network known as Fox, so that is still very much in the hands of News Corp/Rupert Murdoch since the FCC actually has regulations against any of the big 4 OTA networks merging. Disney still produces a vast majority of the content on the network, it’s just not their network.
If we use Fox/Disney as precedent, then spin Infinity Ward back into its own entity with sole rights to Call of Duty since that is the entire point of contention.
Juicy Switch 2 leaks in-bound. On a more serious note…This entire investigation is a joke. No one batted an eyelash when Disney bought Fox giving them effective control over 2 major local networks in the US.
@Ryu_Niiyama I wouldn’t worry too much. Inafune is Level-5’s chief communications officer, not a developer (anymore… by title at least). He likely has minimal oversight in the development/design teams while he focuses on his day to day and this was just a shower thought that a dev enjoyed.
@Anti-Matter F2P games have their issues, but in general they are not a scam. You’re paying for an experience of using specific skins or heroes, which Paladins has generally one of the best F2P options since it never once forced players to pay to unlock better skills and sold strictly skins. Very rarely do people actually keep playing games after 4-5 years, which Paladins had a very good life on Switch. F2P games unfortunately represent a more literal moving on from games than traditional gaming.
@Alopex He’s done a wonderful job, and indeed worked on the franchise since day one as an ADR and script adapter for 4Kids as well, but the verbiage used is still spinning the truth a bit too far since it devalues the contributions the original crew made to the series.
@Cashews I like both equally. They bring different sets of charm to the character. Initially the change was shocking, but Cartwright grew into the role over the first few years and it became more natural for me.
@Fuecoco I don’t know if the contributing writers are students or not - that is irrelevant to their role. While they contribute to Nintendo Life they are journalists, and degrading them as “just students” diminishes their journalistic integrity and the quality of the work. Fact checking is something that every news source goes through, and they make adjustments accordingly. In the past, those adjustments would be printed, now a days it’s usually a sentence at the end noting the correction.
Someone’s agent neglected to fact check this. Eric Stuart was the primary voice actor from 1998 to 2005 for the first 8 seasons. Cartwright took over in 2005 after the Pokémon Company took over dubbing responsibilities.
Well… this went from a day one buy to a wait for sale 3 months later really fast. I can handle live service, Battlepass, and in-game purchases, but physical was the one thing that my purchases was contingent on.
@Anti-Matter While there are issues with the F2P model, game developers have become more conscious about building fair transaction models than were available 15 years ago. Many games are now using F2P as a means to support players with new skins, which is what Hi-Rez does with Paladins and Rogue Company. It’s no where near as egregious as Gunz Online or Combat Arms where the premium purchases quite literally dealt 10-15% more damage than the free ones.
@Anti-Matter That’s a really weird reason to get rid of a game, but it probably will since they appear to reusing a lot of assets and game code - including the battle royale from a few years ago.
@dringosa I almost picked it up a few years ago, but I’ve drifted away from playing games on PC a while ago. While my rig is fine, my setup is not ideal so it takes a good 20 minutes to pull everything out for a PC gaming session.
I preferred the Magical Quest series over the Illusion series. Though between the two I’m not seeing the similarities or homages to the new title. It looks like a generic puzzle platform game.
@Anti-Matter Look at this game as Nintendo’s take on the military sim genre. It simplifies and streamlines many of the complex mechanics while making it turn based like a board game. You progress through various missions until you’re chosen leader “wins” the war.
The production value of this video is simply superb. I can’t recall watching a video from Nintendo Life that is so existential as this one. Makes me miss getting hits at conventions. I hope they re-implement it in the next handheld console.
@Cashews The problem with that is so few people are playing that there are rarely enough people to do raids unless you organize a raid group to specifically play the game. Any information gathered that way though is irrelevant because it’s not an accurate portrayal of daily or weekly movements.
The Etrian series isn’t my cup of tea, but I greatly appreciate that they ported these games. Maybe an Etrian Mystery Dungeon port is in the works next? If so… then it’s on like Donkey Kong.
I don’t remember when I uninstalled this, but this is wild… discouraging remote raids, few people are still playing irl. How is this still operating while Harry Potter was dumped?
E3 was always like the Forza Horizon Festival for games. Big celebrations, big announcements… there was a time that I’d take off from work just to throw viewing parties. It’s disappointing to see if go away.
Apparently I am the only person who chose 2018. I think I enjoyed Pokémon Go Pikachu a bit too much. In all seriousness though… that’s the year Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate and Warframe launched on the Switch - two games that have consistently been on my most played games in my Nintendo year end review.
@antisumo I agree. Sometimes I have serious predictions and wildly unrealistic. I don’t see Rush or Ranger coming back anytime soon since they would’ve come back already if there were plans.
Since predictions are a trend… I predict a new Pokémon Rush, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, and Pokémon Ranger. At least one will be a mobile exclusive and will shutdown within 2 years.
No game is worth $70. Nintendo has not justified the price increase and to add insult has made sufficient money over the lifespan of the console to the point that this is a blatant cash grab designed to appease investors following their failed last quarter results.
I was wondering what the follow up would be. It’s a little disappointing that it’s currently exclusive to the Sony lineup though because it was fun chasing the Mario Kart around the house.
Tin foil hat time… Nintendo will be hosting their own Nintencon in Wahoo, Nebraska that is to be focused on first party titles that will be released exclusively on the NES. The apex of which will be the giant wooden statue of Reggie that they set ablaze to celebrate the closing ceremony while drones form the image of Miyamoto in the sky.
I really wanna get back into Monster Hunter, but I’ve been so scared of the Sunbreak monsters. Got curb stomped on the forth quest and been terrified ever since.
Honestly, I just want a new Mystery Dungeon game. It’s been almost three years since the last MD game, and 8 years since the last original non-remake launched in the west (2015... 2017 saw Etrian MD2, but that was a Japan exclusive).
This game terrified the daylights out of me. Last game to do that was Zombi U, though I feel like that game relies too heavily on the jump scares. I’d probably hate to try a modern Resident Evil game.
Person 3 should really include the FES content and be a complete collection. Persona 4 Golden is a wonderful game with a great soundtrack. In many ways, both games show their age through dated gameplay, but are full serviceable if for no other reason than nostalgia.
I just want to know if there will be more Divine Editions made available. I’ve been trying to get a collectors edition of any Fire Emblem game since Awakening and have missed out every time.
I’ve never been a big fan of repeating gameplay to get the full picture. While Three Houses has attracted a wider audience, I feel like Awakening had a stronger, more concise story, which helped breathe life into the franchise In the west.
I bought two Mario Karts. One has a battery acid leak after a couple months. The other had a battery acid leak upon opening the first time. That toy is a danger and a disappointment - it should not be on store shelves. Jakks has not responded to my inquiries so I refuse to buy any more of their merchandise no matter how appealing it may be.
In speculating anything, I’d compare their current finances to previous years to determine their raw materials. Two years ago, they had an unusually high volume of raw materials on hand, which would indicate that they are gearing up for a major line of production, but the question is when. If that inventory has decreased any, then we can assume that they’ve begun production on various components and should see an announcement or release this year. If they are still stockpiling then I’d look out for next year. If following averages alone, we should see a next gen unit released this year since Nintendo typically gives products a 7-year life cycle.
It’s so disappointing that they shut down their North American branch. Their releases have been kind of hit or miss over the years, but I was looking forward to that mecha game that went F2P last year. Fantasy Life was a stand out for me. I’m happy that we somehow got the mobile adaptation. I’d like to see a Fantasy Life 2 someday… It’s like a more casual Monster Hunter for when I don’t feel like grueling battles.
At this point I think the Switch Pro may just be a Switch 2. I strongly believe Nintendo should’ve taken an iterative approach similar to the iPad that way transitioning between generational gaps would be easier. By waiting such a long time between consoles it introduces problems like what happened with the Wii to Wii U, and nearly repeated by the DS to 3DS.
