Re: Puzzle & Dragons Returns To Nintendo Switch This Week

@BooJoh It may be physical error. I have since discarded my copy, but it was giving me a version error, which seemed like others had the same issue on Reddit with no fix. My 3DS is unmodded and since then I have tested other physical games and they work fine. I may pickup a digital copy because I have been disappointed that I couldn’t finish the Mario game.

Re: Some Trainers Have Already Finished Pokémon Legends: Arceus, And It's Not Out Until Later This Week

@Thoughts Nintendo has every right to enforce their copyrights. There are technically no laws protecting streamers because the individual right holders have the final say on how their creations are portrayed. Nintendo publishes their creator guidelines and actively enforces them. The specific violation is “You are only permitted to use Nintendo Game Content that has been officially released” - so until 1/28 content creation is strictly off limits per Nintendo’s content guidelines. What Nintendo technically couldn’t do in this case is censor a content creator who “leaks” the Pokédex by reading the entire PLA Pokédex with no gameplay or images - though I suspect that Nintendo might try to copyright claim that anyways.

@QueenKittenWrite Cloth masks that are 3-layers, properly fitted, and worn correctly have an efficacy of about 76% according to lab studies. These numbers are variable because most masks don’t create a proper seal. Two people wearing masks are more efficient than one. Is it perfect, no - Neither is the flu vaccine, which has a similar infection rate (60-70% efficiency depending on the year). None of this diminishes their impact overall - any percentage of protection is better than none.

Re: Capcom Is Already Preparing For Monster Hunter's 20th Anniversary

Wilforce

@Westman98 Technically it was leaked as Monster Hunter 6 with no titles or consoles attached. The leak was suspicious because we already have MH6 with Rise, which would imply either World or Rise isn’t a mainline entry unless both are considered to 5 internally and by 6 they mean the 6th generation.

Re: The 'Panda' GameCube Controller Kickstarter Has Been Cancelled

@EVIL-C This is a fallacy. Just because workers are unionized doesn’t inherently mean a higher price, which unions have actively campaigned for years to disprove this. The real problem isn’t the union, it’s the lack of infrastructure. Our production cycle is different than China’s and in many instances we don’t have the equipment necessary to successfully compete, which quite frankly has nothing to do with our safety laws.

Take for example a bow tie. You can mass-produce a quality bow ties in China for around $2 per bow tie each. This price doesn’t take into account freight or duties.

A bow tie made in the US would cost about the same because the US doesn’t believe in a living wage and in many states could get away with $8 an hour. A fair hourly wage would probably be closer to $16, which would push the price of production to $4 per bow tie. In the US example I didn’t even touch on the cost of materials because it’s literally pennies (around 0.25 if you just buy fabric off the shelf). Markup going to retail would sit around $10-$12 per bow tie with MSRP around $20-$24.

This is an over simplified example. In the case of electronics, you’re going to have a harder time sourcing components without importing from China. There aren’t any mass production board manufacturers in the US that could undertake this project. Also chip manufacturing generally isn’t profitable due to the need to continuously upgrade equipment. That’s one of the reasons I’ve never purchased shares of TSMC - despite their massive expansion they output billions annually to keep up with evolving tech. They have plans to construct a factory in the US though, and that would be a good litmus for local sourced vs Chinese sourced components once completed.

Re: Nintendo's Boss Shuntaro Furukawa Warns Of Switch Supply Issues In 2022

It was a matter of time before they burned through their stockpile of chips, impressive that it lasted this long. Considering chip demand they’d probably be better off looking at moving on from the Switch instead of producing a high quantity of outdated chips. Last thing they need is a bunch of outdated Tegra processors in a warehouse like THQ ended up with their tablet uDraw. I wouldn’t be half surprised if they quietly swap out the current Tegra with a newer version and don’t tell anyone other than file a few docs with the FCC. Wait… didn’t they file some documents with the FCC a few months ago?

I wasn’t prepared for this. They’re the only corporate sponsored vlog that I consistently watch, and their videos have steered me toward gifts for people the past few years. I’d guess it’s because they’re finding it harder and harder to find unique conversation points since the past two years have taken a toll on production due to the pandemic. I’ll miss them… hopefully they’re not off the air too long and can pickup on something new.

Re: Random: These Bot-Generated Pokémon Might Be Better Than The Real Thing

Wilforce

@VoidofLight Studios employ people for niche specialties all the time - Lucas Film employed someone last year because they made an amazing deepfake of Harrison Ford on the Solo trailer. I have little reason to believe that Game Freak has someone on staff knowledgeable about AI. As you rightly pointed out, on their own the generated images aren’t perfect; however, many of them serve as a solid base for creating new Pokémon. Honestly, he wouldn’t be hired by Game Freak because they wouldn’t want to experiment with that sort of tech, but I could see Ubisoft, EA or Activision being more interested in experimenting with AI design since they tend to be a bit more cutting edge.

Re: Analogue Pocket Will Be Available To Order Again Next Week, But There's A Catch

Wilforce

@MysticX I don’t find it silly. I wish Sony and Microsoft took this approach. I feel like I’ve been stuck in limbo for next gen gaming the past year since getting a console is officially a bot war - by the time anyone is able to realistically buy a PS5 or Xbox Series X it’ll be the 10th generation of console gaming. At least Analogue is ensuring people have a realistic timeline.
