DLC while exciting should be supplemental in nature and not the crux for future title releases. Imagine if Bethesda hinged their decision to make Skyrim on the sales of their $15 warhorse DLC. I understand that they’re a small team, but perhaps if they’re throwing their weight behind DLC to determine the future on a game that’s nearly a year old that they may need to reassess their priorities.
I love Wonder and still go back to play it. It’s such a magical experience going in and helping guide new players through levels that I’ve already beaten or simply to putz around to beat the stage with others. It’s a little disappointing that the player count on a game like this declines because it’s fun just for the co-experience. I wish Nintendo had integrated a “quick play” option to just join another level where players are playing. I feel like it’ll be difficult to top this one though because Piranhas on Parade was such a memorable experience.
I don’t have a problem with the kits, but what essentially ruined the experience for me is that there’s no respawn on stone resources resulting in having to venture further and further out to get materials as the ones nearby base become exhausted. I just don’t want to have to travel that much.
I just received them yesterday and they’re awesome. They perfectly capture the essence of building your own island since they’re modular like the Mario sets. I hope we get seasonally themed sets in the future - Julian’s Birthday is an entirely different grass and may be a hint for what’s to come in future sets.
I ordered them all first thing this morning. Lego VIPs in the US also get the exclusive Maple’s Pumpkin Garden (30662) for spending $50 or more. My local stores didn’t have them available so I gotta wait until next week unless some how I receive them tomorrow.
I’m totally elated about this announcement. While the originals intrigued me, the shared experience this one promises has me head over heals… this is absolutely a day one buy.
I never really got into the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG, but the Dungeon Dice Monsters was amazing. I know that marketing that was a nightmare because of the many toys and generally unprofitable nature of it, but I wish they’d reboot that as a modern console game cause the Gameboy Game was fire.
@silberbauer15 “They” is a non-gender identifying pronoun used to identify a 3rd party whose gender is unknown. Nintendo Life now has an option to pay for various benefits like ad-free browsing and a little blue checkmark. My attempt at humor was about as dry as the wine in my laundry room.
@NCChris They’re hit or miss with the Nintendo Life crowd since they’re former Nintendo PR. They’re mostly milking their former glory for on-going success. I think they’re interesting in short bursts, but I have a hard time getting through their full podcast.
I have nothing against AI when it is used as a tool in tandem with professional artists. Work smarter, not harder. The problem is when Square-Enix decides to start cutting employees because the AI is more proficient in an effort to inflate profits.
Ubisoft needs to be comfortable with me not giving them another dime after that hot take. I have nothing against live service games… some of my favorite games are live service games, but I will always prefer to own the games I play than rely upon a digital first model.
Gotta claim all bases… roman, italics, bold, and any known combination. Team Rocket better watch out… it’s not gonna be Ash coming for them this year, it’ll be good old trademark trolling in the form of Rockstar games.
@Ridley Really begs the question… who is this game for? It wasn’t well received, shadow dropped, and only available for 10 months. It’s almost as if they wanted it to fail.
They are not your average rooted mushroom. If I’m to believe that animals move and have eyes - these are clearly animals. Simply calling something a name, doesn’t define something as a vegetable - if we did that then cows would be suitable for pescatarians - after all they’re just land manatees. Also, did we even consider the fact that perhaps the mushrooms are simply baby toads that haven’t sprouted yet? Mario is a certifiable monster.
@Anti-Matter Of the list there, the only one I’d recommend giving a chance is Crazy Taxi. If it’s anything like its predecessors then it’s an A to B taxi driving game. Maybe Shinobi since it looks to be a side scroller (controls haven’t been too difficult to grasp in previous games), but maybe not though if it is too violent. The rest you’re probably right about being too edgy or having questionable content.
This is a really weird statistic to announce today… the Xbox 360 sold 85 million units while the Wii sold 101 million. The Switch would’ve surpassed the Xbox 360 before the Wii. Only about 20 million more units until the Switch surpasses the PS2 and DS.
@vio It has a very active playerbase. Switch version has seen some graphical improvements and improved frame rate since launch, but still gets sluggish during higher tier content. Even before crossplay was added, the Switch version still had a relatively healthy population, despite being no where near as active as the other consoles.
The thing that stands out most to me is the change in scenery. Possibly centered around seasonal changes and the unpredictable nature of weather to affect change. Would be the first in the series to take that approach since Portable 3rd if I remember correctly.
While exciting and day one buy, this isn’t the 20th anniversary title I was hoping for. Definitely next gen, but for 20th anniversary was hoping for something closer to Generations with level scaling similar to Rise.
@Spider-Kev Strategic reasons and other consoles undecided… must mean to coincide with the Switch 2 launch and it’ll be revealed to also be on Switch 2 at a later date. Thank you very much… I’ll put my tin foil hat back on.
@GrailUK I’ve gotta take that tin foil hat off too… strategic reasons sounds like late summer launch for Switch 2 may be in the works and they plan to coincide with the launch.
The Wii U is a magical console that I don’t believe any console will EVER be able to capture again. The dual screen HD concept resulted in some amazing gaming experiences like Nintendoland, ZombiU, and Xenoblade Chronicles X.
@KayFiOS Obviously not for users… developers would be more responsible, and I don’t think Nintendo would legitimately allow overclocking, rather pushing the processor speed slightly above what has previously been used while docked or handheld. The processor is already running below spec so there is room to work with.
@Sisilly_G I think a good approach for DLC in a kids game like this would be the Sesame Street Kinect game. That was superbly done. I think a “seasonal” approach like that could be reasonable so long as it’s not a blatant money grab like CoD or Fortnite. At that point though, the devs may be more inclined to release a new game entirely so as to not confuse or overwhelm parents.
I really want to enjoy Fae Farm, but I got hung up on the tutorial. I really want to get out and explore like in Stardew Valley, but the tutorial is unskippable.
I wish they wouldn’t do full version numbers for minor updates. We’ve seen 17 major versions in a fraction of the time of the iPhone, which is on the same update now. Full versions should be reserved for major functionality improvements… unlocking or expanding Bluetooth features, adding new overclocking elements for developers, adding custom themes, etc. A censorship adjustment doesn’t necessitate a full version.
I know it sounds crazy, but the name of this game really bothers me. Crazy Castle with Bugs Bunny was one of my favorite games growing up. While this game looks fun, the name really throws me off because it makes me think that it’s somehow tied to the Crazy Castle franchise.
@Serpenterror This seems like the most probable explanation. It’s not the first time a game was announced for everything except Switch then got announced in an indie direct.
I’m reading this to mean that Fae Farm is a better choice this year. A bit unfortunate as I Kickstarted Sandrock, but it is what it is - I didn’t know Portia was so poorly received on Switch. You live and learn.
I have mixed feelings about this approach. As much as I loved the 3DS, I am perfectly content with one screen. Maybe if this is optional like the Kinect was on Xbox 360.
That was truly a brilliant trailer and really helped step up the expectations from the Wii U while differentiating itself from the competition. The rooftop sequence is what snagged me. I would frequently lug my PS2 to friends’ homes to play DDR, and that moment tugged on my heart strings a bit. I wish Nintendo had made a more portable dock though so that we didn’t need to rely on 3rd party docks. The Splatoon sequence was just a bit too optimistic though - while Nintendo has a few tournaments, nothing has quite been on the competitive scale of Arena of Valor, Call of Duty, or Overwatch.
Something intrinsically tied to high school and college football are the drum lines. While you’re not asking for feedback on your game idea, I would recommend somehow tying this element into your game. Ouendan may be a good jumping point for how to handle drum lines from a musical standpoint using whistles and drums.
I’m shocked that it’s over. Though I’m happy that I got to continue the journey for so long and even share some of it with my little one, but it’s sad that just as my LO is old enough to just get into the series that it’s coming to an end. My favorite seasons were the first, Battle Frontier, and the most recent few… the series was really at its best when it got to do its own thing and not worry about mirroring the games.
