Re: 75% Of Public Comments On Microsoft's Acquisition Of Activision Were Positive

Wilforce

As they should be. Activision-Blizzard is a toxic company and needs reform, which is something that I believe Microsoft can offer. Is Microsoft perfect? No company is perfect, but Microsoft has generally displayed a hands off approach to game development allowing dev teams to continue operating as is. Many cross platform titles have been released by their various studios, and fears that CoD will leave any platform are unfounded. Even if it does, there are other equally great cross platform franchises.

@PateloDim Fifteen years in the future Luffy mysteriously falls overboard from a military vessel and his children set out on an adventure of their own believing he’s still alive. Luffy is revealed to be alive at the end of season one, and he’s wielding Zoro’s swords while wearing Sogeking’s attire. Luffy bids a warning to his children: “My treasure? It's yours if you want it. Find it! I left all the world has there!” Sogeluffy points toward the grand line.

Re: Monster Hunter Rise Is No Longer A Nintendo Switch Console Exclusive

Wilforce

@Would_you_kindly Nintendo more likely paid for temporary exclusivity. It’s also possible that Nintendo paid nothing and it was designed with the Switch in mind to appeal to the traditional Vita/PSP crowd. During the development and post-launch of MH World, Capcom acknowledged interest in continuing the mainline entries with World being a separate entity. It’s interesting that they’re launch it on other consoles without incorporating crossplay… I’ve never been a fan of market fragmentation in gaming,

Re: Smash World Tour Announces Cancellation After Notice From Nintendo

@CammyUnofficial The game is their’s, which they released to the wild. As an owner of the product, I should be able to use it as I want so long as I’m not breaking the law. Imagine the outrage if FIFA found a way to ban all non-FIFA soccer leagues all together… though PGA is pretty well on track to do just that for golf.

An interesting read on the subject may be found called “Pausing the Game” - its an academic journal entry that elaborates on the issues with various legal claims against organizers that should not apply while at the same time proposing the legalization of esports licensing, similar to how music licensing is standardized.

Re: Review: Cobra Kai 2: Dojos Rising - A Good Idea Very Poorly Executed

Wilforce

@Westlondonmist The first sentence literally calls it garbage while relating it to a game that justifiably is a dumpster fire in its own right. The series has committed actors who understand the source material and actively engage with one another in character, well choreographed fight scenes, and meaningful progression from season-to-season (which is more than I can say about some other dramas on various streaming services and prime time).

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Sonic Frontiers?

Wilforce

One of the things I appreciated when I first started reading Nintendo Life was that your scoring policy was made public and established very specific criteria to receive specific scores. The NL review of Sonic is highly biased and fails to meet the standards that your team has set forth for reviewing games. Based on your public scoring philosophy, Sonic should be at least a 6?

Re: Best Licensed Games On Nintendo Switch

@marktornits I was under the impression that they didn’t know if they could and were looking into it. If I remember correctly, the Remaster is basically a rebuild of late development builds, and they had a hard time finding a near final build of the multiplayer component.

Re: Best Licensed Games On Nintendo Switch

I would take Xenoverse 2 over FighterZ. FighterZ is the first traditional fighting game I played in years, but Xenoverse was a lot more fun in my opinion.

Gotta admit that I’ve now bought Ghostbusters on three different consoles, and haven’t played it… Xbox 360 (original), PC, and Switch. I really want to find time to play it though because the team put so much love into the development.

Re: Super Mario Bros. Movie Composer Gives Fans Sneak Peek At 'Mario Suite Part 3'

@SlowPokemon It’s the main theme. If you look at the top it’s extra flourishes for a flute and oboe, but the under that the notes follow the standard theme. Though there is a shift in tone on the bottom half of the page.

It starts out high D-D-D-A-E, then shifts to E#-E#-E#-D-A. The underground theme is 3 neighboring notes like E-E-C#-C#-D-D in quick succession.

To come to this conclusion, I’m assuming the song is in the key of C with a temporary deviation to D on the bottom half of the page. However, even some minor keys would still work to give it a sinister twist on the main theme. I’m pretty confident this isn’t the underground theme unless it transitions later in the song.

Re: Bayonetta 3's New Voice Actor Asks Everyone To "Just Be Good To Each Other"

Wilforce

So Taylor lied about her rate. $3000 per 4 hour session is a little over twice SAG rates, while she was leading people to believe she was getting paid that as one lump sum. It’s rough enough for voice actors who are legitimately pushing for a living wage… this is an insult to everyone in the industry whether it’s union or non-union work. I’ll take some solid advise… going back to bed till a real voice actor needs support.

Re: Bayonetta's New Voice Actor Jennifer Hale Issues Statement About Bayonetta 3

Wilforce

@GameOtaku Union dues are $201 annually, they take roughly 1.27% cut per gig for the first $500k annually. At minimum SAG rates, that’s $4.15 per hour, which that’s still more than your made up number of $250.

Yes, actors take under the table, non-union roles using alternate stage names. However, the do so at a serious risk of being blacklisted. Only non-serious and unknown actors can really get away with that.

Re: Bayonetta's New Voice Actor Jennifer Hale Issues Statement About Bayonetta 3

Wilforce

@Wexter I’m quoting an approximate on the SAG-AFTRA Union minimum rates. That’s the screen actors guild minimum for union work. I double checked and union rate is $327 so I’m not sure where you’re getting $250 from because accepting below union rates will get you booted out of the union and blacklisted.

I’m not saying others wouldn’t take $4000 either. There are a lot of hungry actors who would take that in a heartbeat. She has a value to her voice and is standing by it. Good on her and others, but that’s why actors like Frank Welker are getting replaced by imitators for Optimus Prime.

Re: Bayonetta's New Voice Actor Jennifer Hale Issues Statement About Bayonetta 3

Wilforce

@GameOtaku It’s not just a job where you sit “reading” lines. It’s a job where you captivate audiences with enticing dialogue and convincing emotions. You drive to 100 auditions a month just hoping to score one role for a single payment at union wages and maybe residuals if you’re lucky. Depending on the audition notice, some of those jobs can receive over 100 auditions. The talent pool is large and opportunities are small.

It’s not like working for McDonalds where you’re guaranteed a paycheck every month. She has to hustle for her money, and clearly she has a higher value for her talents than P* was willing to offer - THAT I’m open to debate because criticism for her wanting more money may be fair, but even on that end of the debate there are a lot of unknowns. We don’t know what her time commitment would’ve been had she taken the role. If she was getting paid $4000 at SAG rates that’s about $350 an hour. $4000 sounds nice, but that’s one job, which in her profession may be her only job for the next 3 months.

The voice over industry is a revolving door of talent as a lot of talent washout in the first couple years because they can’t make a living wage because of the lack of job security. So while we sit here enjoying our stable jobs, thousands of voice actors are out there hustling to make as much as your or I do.

Re: Bayonetta's New Voice Actor Jennifer Hale Issues Statement About Bayonetta 3

Wilforce

@Kryhme You’re taking union rates out of context. Yes, the rates are high, but most actors aren’t making union rates on a regular basis. Most of their time will be spent auditioning for the next gig. Scoring one gig just means you keep the lights on for a month, but once that gig is done you’re back to the audition grind. If you score a major role in a show like My Hero Academia, which doesn’t pay union rates, then you’re underpaid, but… there’s job security in those roles since it’s a popular, long-running series. However, most people aren’t that lucky and need to stick to the daily grind.

Re: Bravely Default Developer Team Asano Asks Fans If They Want A New Entry

@PapaGarv Thanks for filling in the gaps for me. I never noticed the difference that you pointed out and loved both the originals and BD2. Both of those make complete sense though since in retrospect they do change the original combat dramatically. Having an extended time between the original games and sequel likely made me a bit more forgiving on the changes to combat. I personally focus a lot on the overall atmosphere, and that’s one of the things that captivates me.
