Re: Opinion: The Best Tony Hawk Game Is Grinding Back, And I Can Only Hold My Breath

WhiteTrashGuy

If I remember correctly, THPS3 was my third GCN game I bought after ROGUE SQUANDRON and LUIGI'S MANSION. I believe I picked it up with NBA STREET. Adding the revert opened up so many amazing lines. And unlockable Wolverine!?!?!? That's the one thing I miss with these remasters as we got Spidey in 2, Wolvie in 3, and 'Ol Shell Head in 4 thanks to Activision's deal with MARVEL at the time (and of course that Neversoft developed the SPIDER-MAN PS1/N64/DC WITH the Tony Hawk engine, no less!). The only detractor for 3 on GCN was that darn super tiny D-Pad as it was my preferred input choice. The first game on N64 will always hold a special place in my heart, but MAN did I sink a lot of hours into THPS3. Can't wait to roll the Airport again this Summer to some Motorhead!

Re: Talking Point: What We Expect From The Switch 2 Direct

WhiteTrashGuy

Man, I'm boring! Realized with this poll the thing I am most excited for is backwards compatibility with the OG Switch. I mean, playing PS4 games on PS5 for the first time blew me away as I could see what a PS4 Pro had offered. I hope Switch 2 can provide some sort of upscaling through patches.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (1st March)

MK8LX with the family. Maybe some GOLDENEYE as well (my kids prefer it to PD!). TBH, I picked up some PS5 games on sale. ROBOCOP: ROGUE CITY had been on my wishlist for a while so I grabbed that. But a game called WANTED: DEAD popped up in an "Underated Hack 'N Slash" video I was watching. Did some research and it's basically DEVIL'S THIRD 2 (DEVIL'S FOURTH?)! Now, I recognize how janky the aiming is in that game, but I loved everything else. I also discovered that Itagaki supervised the making of SAMURAI JACK: BATTLE THROUGH TIME. I slept on that one and now it's delisted with copies running $100.00 USD+ used. So I bought WANTED:DEAD. It feels like the Valhalla team's attempt at a SUDA 51 game. I like it!

Re: Turok Receives A New Update For Nintendo Switch, Here's What's Included

@sketchturner, @EVIL-C
I remember reading about SEEDS OF EVIL for months. So blown away by the first game (my third N64 game, my first $80.00 USD game, and the game that forced me to buy a memory pak), that I couldn't help but be excited. So I stood there, in Target, looking back and forth at SEEDS OF EVIL and ROGUE SQUADRON. I wanted a game that took full advantage of my new Expansion Pak. I chose SEEDS OF EVIL, despite my loyalty to that galaxy far, far away. While I loved the music, levels, and animation, the flow felt off. I rented ROGUE SQUADRON a few days later and realized my fatal mistake. I ended up selling SEEDS OF EVIL a few weeks later, for far less than I paid. I never bought ROGUE SQUADRON. It still haunts me to this day. I have all three TUROK games on the Switch. However, I have physical copies of 1 and 3... 2 only digitally. That certainly says something. (BTW, TUROK 3 is amazingly fun. Like a crazy sci-fi action movie with nice call-backs to the first game.)

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Doesn't Need To Worry About Steam Deck Sales

WhiteTrashGuy

I have friends who have been trying to convince me to buy a Steam Deck over the past few years. I bought a Playstation Portal instead. Between my PS5 and Switch (and the fact that I usually take my DS or 3DS when flying) I don't really have a need for it. 90% of the indie titles I want to play come to Switch (DEAD CELLS took too long and come ON The Rogue Prince of Persia!) The Big AAA titles are usually on my PS5. Switch2 will be a day-one. No need for a Steam Deck.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (22nd February)

Finally grabbed KILL KNIGHT on sale. Been wanting to play it since it launched. Such a great action game. Wish there was more variety in the stages and enemies, but I do enjoy a good twin-stick shooter. The management of your abilities and how you kill to gain resources gives me serious DOOM ETERNAL vibes. Once you get into it a bit everything just clicks.

Re: Nintendo Will "Likely" Price The Switch 2 At $399, Says Analyst

WhiteTrashGuy

It's hard for me. Nintendo obviously uses older tech for the Switch consoles to cut down on production costs. However, there has never been any official price drops over the last 8 years; a first for Nintendo. Riding on the sustained popularity and sales of the Switch, there has been no need. It's a fine line with consumers at this point. In a perfect world the Switch Lite would drop to $130 USD, the OG Switch would drop to $200 USD, and the OLED would drop to $250.00 USD. Leaving the Switch2 to launch at $300-$350 USD. I feel that this would be the best price point to entice new users and early adopters. That being said, Nintendo sees people in the Apple ecosystem regularly upgrading products for premium prices. And since the "value proposition" of the original Switch has not wavered, I can see them keeping prices where they are and dropping the Switch2 at a solid $400-$450 USD. This may keep families away for awhile, but the Nintendo faithful will snatch it up. Any higher, and I think many people will hold off for a bit. Of course, that new killer 3D Mario will definitely drive sales. They are probably hoping MARIO KART 9 will do the same for families. It will be interesting to see their strategy moving forward. At the end of the day $399.00 USD is the sweet spot.

Re: Random: Takaya Imamura Wants To See Star Fox: Assault On Switch 2

WhiteTrashGuy

I've actually been thinking about this a lot lately. I pulled out STAR FOX ZERO and ran through it to scratch the itch (the controls are actually perfect after years of using both sticks and gyro-aiming in Switch shooters). I feel like I wrongly judged STAR FOX ASSAULT upon release because I hated the third-person sections. I really want this remastered and I have actually been thinking about playing some two-player STEEL DIVER with the kids (BATTLESHIP on STEROIDS!!!), so I literally want all of this!

Re: Talking Point: What Do We Actually Want From 'Mario Kart 9'?

WhiteTrashGuy

I've always thought the next logical jump would be to add a single-player story mode with an hub-world like DKR and the latest MARIO GOLF. Include planes and speed-boats as well; new vehicles = fresh mechanics/physics. Finally, this trailer screams cross-country relay-style races to me. I would be down with a 24-Player online/local mode where you are driving across the Mushroom Kingdom! (Still think Mario 3D should be the launch title, though...)

Re: Review: Ninja Five-O (GBA)

WhiteTrashGuy

Just got my Limited Run copy on Switch this week! It takes some time to get used to the flow of the game, but the level design and gameplay is solid! So glad I have a physical copy that only cost $30.00 USD.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (25th January)

WhiteTrashGuy

This has been a crazy week in gaming for me and it's nice to see new games and old favorites be brought up. I received my Limited-Run Games order of NINJA FIVE-O/COP and BG&E 20TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION. Ninja Cop has been a wonderful surprise as I never played it on GBA. It will also be nice to go back to Hylis. I introduced BG&E to my future wife when we first started dating so we really wanted this 20th Anniversary Edition in a physical cartridge. Also, the X-BOX Developer Direct got me super-hyped on Thursday. So I started rotating in NINJA GAIDEN MASTER COLLECTION and DOOM: ETERNAL. I am so excited for NINJA GAIDEN 4 (it's about time!) and NINJA GAIDEN 2: BLACK (even though NG: BLACK FTW, that's the one that needs a remaster). And DOOM: THE DARK AGES looks wonderful. #TankStrafingMeleeAction. I do hope one or both of these are announced for Switch 2. The folks at id Software did great with both DOOM games on Switch. Everyone keeps talking about WITCHER 3 being THE impossible Switch port. Man, DOOM 2016 was the first Switch port of a PS4 game that really blew me away! It runs better than WITCHER 3 IMO. Okay, I'll stop ranting. HAPPY GAMING, EVERYONE!!!

Re: Opinion: My Daughter Made Me Realise That Mario Wonder's Difficulty Options Need Work

WhiteTrashGuy

I was pretty disappointed with SMB: WONDER. I really liked the art style and feel, but it was way too easy. The harder areas are good, but I was never really excited by any of the courses until the last world. New SMB 1 and WiiU offered a far better ramp-up in difficulty. To be frank, SONIC SUPERSTARS was the better return-to-form out of the two mascot offerings in fall of 2023. SUPERSTARS nailed it and I feel bad it was overshadowed by the plumbers.

Re: Review: Donkey Kong Country Returns HD (Switch) - Aping A Retro Classic

WhiteTrashGuy

It's just really weird that Nintendo priced this at twice the cost of METROID PRIME: REMASTERED. All I can think is that they believe DK has a broader appeal across the Switch's install base and so they can convince people that it's a "new" experience for their Switch. Seriously, though, I can't believe this is $60.00 USD. I really thought it would have been $40 to $50, tops. Of course, PRINCESS PEACH: SHOWTIME launched at $60, so maybe I don't just understand, lol.

Re: Rumour: 'Switch 2' Will Reportedly Be Officially Revealed This Thursday

WhiteTrashGuy

If true, this follows what we all assumed would happen. A teaser trailer in January showing off the system and then a larger presentation in February/March closer to the system's late Spring launch. The only thing that surprises me is the possibility of Mario Kart 9 being the launch title with Mario shipping for the holidays. I would have thought they would launch with a new 3D Mario title to get the hardcore gamers out there to buy on day one and Mario Kart 9 being the big holiday release for the families (watch it just be Mario Kart 8 Ultimate with all of the DLC included, lol).

Re: Rumour: 'Switch 2' Will Reportedly Be Officially Revealed This Thursday

WhiteTrashGuy

@Vivianeat
I'm hoping for backwards compatibility with upscale via patches. Obviously (if it is even possible) this would be up to the developers to patch the games. But the jump from a base PS4 to PS5 enhanced 60 fps on titles like GoW and GHOSTS OF TSUSHIMA was so amazing I am hoping for something similar for the Switch. That would be a great incentive for me to upgrade as I am still using my launch system.

Re: Anniversary: Resident Evil 4, One Of The Greatest Games Ever Made, Turns 20

WhiteTrashGuy

I remember pre-ordering this in December of 2004 and GameStop provided a demo disc. It was the opening of the game through the village sequence where the bell rings and the game starts proper. My friends and I would do runs over and over every night until the release. The Gannados moved so realistically for the time and reacted to your actions. Every run felt unique. When we picked up the game it came with a 'Making Of' DVD that I still have to this day. After we beat the game, MERCENARIES runs took over our existence for the next two years. A seminal game and truly 2005's GOTY. I own it on GCN, Wii, WiiU Digital, Switch Digital, Meta Quest 2, and of course the REmake on PS5 (which met all of my expectations).
