Re: Talking Point: Do You Play Zelda Games For The Story?

WhiteTrashGuy

Maybe it's a generational thing. I remember being blown away by the cut scenes in Ninja Gaiden II on the NES. It was so cinematic and set an amazing tone. At that time if you wanted story you played a point-and-click adventure or RPG. Most games were extensions of motifs started in arcades. It was all about gameplay; the graphics and, more importantly for me, the music set the tone. CONTRA and the aforementioned Ninja Gaiden series are a perfect example of this. I am playing through PRAGMATA right now and some of the reviews I read lament the lack of a more surprising story. To me it has the perfect amount of character interaction and little details told through logs and emails. It's something that adds to the experience; it's not the driving force. In the late 90s this started to, not necessarily shift, but the gamut of experiences definitely widened. The larger storage space of CDs mixed with graphical leaps provided the ability to offer more cinematic experiences. There were less of these when I was growing up; and the majority were in the PC space to boot.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Pragmata?

I'm several hours in and it's a 9 for me. Looks great, plays wonderfully, and I dig the setting. It's just a solid game. No open world stuff-age. No needless RPG elements shoehorned in. Just a solid action game. Gives me the old-school feels. CAPCOM continues to be firing on all cylinders. I bought it digitally, and I hardly ever do that at launch. I wanted to support them.

Re: Talking Point: Star Fox Zero Is 10 Years Old - Have You Actually Played It?

WhiteTrashGuy

I actually just ran through it again a few months ago. I wish it wasn't just another rehash of SF64, but I really liked the motion controls. I would switch between first and third person views using the minus button and felt it worked really well to target specific target areas. I am not a fan of the "art style" as a whole as it seems very plain, but it is pretty.

Re: Talking Point: What Would You Want From A New Star Fox Game?

WhiteTrashGuy

I really liked what STARFIELD offered. That being said my favorite SF, besides 64, is COMMAND. I loved the story beats and strategy elements. A SF64 with a grand story, strategic elements and RPG elements would be fantastic. Let me give orders to the team! I really hope this is not just a multiplayer focused entry.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Pragmata For Switch 2?

WhiteTrashGuy

I loved the demo. I was already intrigued when they finally showed off the combat system and the demo completely sold it for me. I have a PS5, but would rather play on the Switch 2. However, the GKC thing still bugs me. Have yet to buy one. I am thinking this, RE9, and 007 will be the three I cave on.

Re: 007 First Light Shaken By Delay On Switch 2, Now Releasing After Other Consoles

WhiteTrashGuy

It bums me out because it seemed like IO had Switch 2 development kits early enough. This game was announced for Switch 2 a bit ago. All versions should have been delayed at this point. I have a PS5, but prefer to play on the Switch since 90% of the time I dont have access to the TV. I have a Portal, but I really wanted to play Indy, The Dark Ages, and Bond on my S2. Have been waiting patiently. Guess I will roll Indy for the time being, hope DOOM: TDA gets announced over Summer Games Fest, and try to be optimistic about 007.

Re: He-Man's Arcade-Style Retro Brawler Locks In A Release Date For Switch

@NeonPizza
Its completely for physical preservation for me. CONTRA ANNIVERSARY, CASTLEVANIA ADVANCE COLLECTION, TUROK, and JAWS are so far the ones I have double-dipped on. If a digital copy drops to $5 and I already have it physical, I will sometimes get it just to have the convenience of digital. But MARVEL MAXIMUM, I will probably double dip on. I ALMOST did with the CASTLEVANIA DOMINOUS COLLECTION and the JURASSIC PARK COLLECTION from LRG, but I held out and waited for my physical copies to arrive.

Re: 'Can You Use Labo VR Goggles For Virtual Boy Games On Switch?' & Other Nintendo Classics VB Questions Answered

WhiteTrashGuy

Got my cardboard VB yesterday. I'm actually surprised by the build quality. Very sturdy. Played RED ALARM and WARIOLAND so far. I imagine the "red filter" included with the replica model makes it that much more authentic, and I miss it. I remember playing the system at launch and a buddy of mine has two of them that he pulls out on occasion. Wish there was a way to simulate this. Nintendo needs to add a 2D single screen option down the line. The 3D effect is not super pronounced, but no headaches for me which is a surprise. Also, the rubber on the $100.00 USD model probably helps with the light filtering in. My glasses fit nicely, though, into the cardboard model, which is definitely a plus.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows 'Claws Of Awaji' Expansion Lands Switch 2 Release Date

WhiteTrashGuy

A manual jump button! That's the stuff! I wish these games just had thr PoP: SoT series control scheme. Since it seems we will not be getting any 3D PoP in the near future. Almost bought this on sale this weekend, but JAWS: RETRO EDITION and ABSOLUM were calling, lol. Once it hits $30.00 USD I will probably take the plunge as it looks like a fun world to mess around in. I love the GHOST games on PS, so it would be cool to have a fuedal Japanese open-world on my S2.

Re: Capcom's New IP Is Off To A Promising Start As Demo Hits One Million "Combined Downloads"

WhiteTrashGuy

I really hope we can get more recent / same-day titles at least for the next couple of years. I have played the demo around 8 or 9 times now. The simplicity of the controls and promise of layered abilities / multiple hack modifiers has me very intrigued. It has the possibility of keeping hacking fresh and strategic throughout the campaign. The combat / exploration loop is right up my alley. With RE9, Indy, 007, and this, my plate is looking mighty full.
