@FishyS Not the review score, but overall perception. I guess I’m just comparing it to other Pokemon spinoffs from the past. The original Trozei was released as a full price game back in the day, as an example. But yeah, there’s definitely a “pokemon tax” for any spinoffs Gamefreak puts out. They don’t make cheap spinoffs lol

I don’t blame anyone for not wanting Friends and the dlc at that price. But personally I prefer a one time purchase to get everything. Im not a fan of all the “free” pokemon apps that constantly restrict what you can do or push you to spend on a premium currency. But by making the game free on app stores, gamefreak set it up to be viewed as a free app rather than as a mid-priced puzzle/minigame collection. I think people would balk less at a $20-$30 puzzle game than a “free” game with $30 of dlc. Just my take on it at least.

I think if they simply released this as a $30 game, people would have a better opinion of it.

I ended up buying it for Switch with the dlc. It definitely has more of a niche appeal, but for me I’ll get a lot of hours out of it. I like minigames and little puzzles, so it’s fun to play for a bit every day. Almost reminds me of brain age in that way.

The plush aspect and decorating rooms is a bonus too. What pokemon fan doesn’t enjoy collecting things, right? I’m having fun making different rooms themed around certain types and filling them with plushes.

$30-ish bucks for all the content of a puzzle game is worth it for me. It won’t be for everyone, but I’m glad they went this route instead of filling it with ads or a paid currency.

Just finished the story of DK bananza yesterday (can’t believe that ending wasn’t spoiled for me!). This weekend I’ll be working on the postgame and hunting bananas. This is definitely a game I want to 100%!

Since I don’t have a camera yet, the value isn’t there. I like the game, but I’m content with the content I already have.

Suppose I’m not surprised. Some of the transformations are definitely better than others. The ostrich in particular is pretty OP for skipping over things.

Bananza is definitely my number 1 and I love all the old DK games. It’s just that good.

Not surprised by this, honestly. It’s anecdotal for sure, but I have not seen any Switch 2’s in stock at stores in my area. Games are fairly picked over too. Just goes to show online spaces and discourse don’t always represent reality, because clearly a lot of people don’t have any issues with the price point, specs, game lineup, etc.

I need to see data for the “digital versus physical” claim. Otherwise this is all just speculation. It’s undeniably a different gaming environment today compared to when Odyssey came out.

It truly is the rare 10/10 for me. I honestly have no complaints about it.

@Mgalens very true. I had to get better at moderation. Avoid certain sites or limit how much time I spend in certain online spaces. Once you’re a tad removed from the online discourse, everything is much more peaceful haha

Glad you guys switched from “we” to “I.” Using “we” is a bit dated now, so the more personal “I” more accurately represents the reviews anyway.

As for online discourse… it’s not for everyone. If you find your mood gets impacted by online comments, time to unplug. Personally I spent the Switch 2 launch week mostly with my Switch 2 and didn’t let the online noise taint my experience. Much, much more enjoyable way to live.

I buy amiibo purely for the figure itself. That’s the value, to display it and collect. Whatever in-game thing it does is a bonus.

“Adulting” is no joke. I bought 3 games at launch, MK World, Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, and Yakuza 0. I still have plenty to do in all 3 of them. So yes, staggering releases is definitely ok with my schedule lol

It does seem likely there will be another one once DK comes out, but it also feels like some “insider” is always claiming there’s a direct coming soon lol. Definitely the “cried wolf” of Nintendo news.

Seemed pretty obvious they were headed in this direction considering how much time they gave DK in the Mario movie.

Actually excited for this haha. The original was a pretty great Picross game (and I actually haven’t even finished all the puzzles yet)

Once the holidays and more games roll around, the sales are going to be insane.

Haven’t had a problem myself and I’d say it’s slightly faster than Switch 1. Definitely feels like any download issues are with a person’s internet and not the system.

More costumes would be amazing. Idk why, but I love them so much haha.

Also, 3 lap gps seem like a no brainer. I guess Nintendo was just very proud of the “World” aspect, but a “classic” gp mode couldn’t hurt. They could’ve made it unlockable by completing the other gps so you at least had to play those first.

Definitely think this will be interpreted in a variety of ways. But I get what he’s saying. It’s like any entertainment product. Yes, at their core are elements of art, but they are also a product for consumers. Most movies, shows, books, etc. go through some revision to fit the audience and be marketable. Games are no different.

This has been my first Rune Factory game and I’m addicted. It’s a lot of fun, couldn’t agree more with this review

@Truegamer79 You’re probably missing all the Kamek characters. You need to be transformed into them when someone uses the item, then they unlock. These are characters like Swoop, Spike, the dolphin. You can look up a list of them, but good luck. It’s a lot of RNG.

So many Mario games hanging in there. He really is the gaming GOAT, huh?

Remakes are nice, but I’m not sure this one is really needed or should be a priority. I’d rather Square focus on the final VII remake and a new installment. Unless I’m just ignorant about how resources are allotted and it wouldn’t really impact other FF projects.

It’s dissapointing how they’ve let Mega Man flounder. I’m glad we’ve gotten so many retro collections and Mega Man inspired items/costumes in other Capcom games, but he needs his own title. They can’t keep using him as a Capcom mascot if younger generations develop no connection to him.

Definitely been satisfied with mine so far. I picked up 3 games at launch (MK World, Yakuza 0, and Guardians of Azuma). Still chipping away at them, but definitely feeling ready for that DK release!
