Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds

Waluigi451

I don’t know what I’m missing, but my impression after the demo wasn’t as favorable as these reviews. It’s a decent kart racer for sure, but it didn’t feel like a dramatic improvement over the old Sonic racing games. The flying and boat portions were particularly disappointing. Maybe I just didn’t grasp the jump mechanic yet, but the boat sections were really cumbersome.

I also just don’t think there’s enough on offer here for the price. Not a lot of single player content, which is what I typically go for.

Ultimately, the demo didn’t leave me hungry for more. I’m sure I’ll get it down the line, but it’s not worth the price at launch for the game and dlc. This is why I’m glad games have demos though, because the reviews are making this sound like some massive leap in racing games when to me it just feels like more of the same.

Re: Review: Donkey Kong Bananza: DK Island & Emerald Rush (Switch 2) - DLC That's Ripe With Fun, But Could've Been More

Waluigi451

I got this simply because I wanted more Donkey Kong, and while I don’t necessarily regret it, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

$20 is too much for what you get. That said, with the reward system, I’ll definitely get a good chunk of additional hours out of the DLC. So it isn’t a total waste (I’ve certainly paid $20 or more for games that I played a lot less lol). But at the end of the day, it’s one new area and a lot of reuse.

Ultimately, I’m left feeling underwhelmed. I’ll certainly keep playing it, but it’s hard not to feel shortchanged. After this, I’ll be much more hesitant to buy Nintendo dlc in the future.

Re: Review: Drag x Drive (Switch 2) - A Real Baller With Friends, But Is There Enough To Do?

Waluigi451

Sounds like a pass for me because of the lack of options and content. One of the biggest Switch disappointments for me was Mario Strikers: Battle League. The gameplay was solid enough, but there simply wasn’t enough to do. And as someone who primarily enjoys playing games in single player, it was as barebones as could be. Now Drag x Drive sounds a tad better with the challenges, but still sounds lacking in content to be a worthwhile experience for me.

Re: Review: Pokémon Friends (Switch) – Pretty Plushies, Puzzling Pricing

Waluigi451

@FishyS Not the review score, but overall perception. I guess I’m just comparing it to other Pokemon spinoffs from the past. The original Trozei was released as a full price game back in the day, as an example. But yeah, there’s definitely a “pokemon tax” for any spinoffs Gamefreak puts out. They don’t make cheap spinoffs lol

I don’t blame anyone for not wanting Friends and the dlc at that price. But personally I prefer a one time purchase to get everything. Im not a fan of all the “free” pokemon apps that constantly restrict what you can do or push you to spend on a premium currency. But by making the game free on app stores, gamefreak set it up to be viewed as a free app rather than as a mid-priced puzzle/minigame collection. I think people would balk less at a $20-$30 puzzle game than a “free” game with $30 of dlc. Just my take on it at least.

Re: Poll: So, Have You Tried Out Pokémon Friends On Switch Or Mobile Yet?

I ended up buying it for Switch with the dlc. It definitely has more of a niche appeal, but for me I’ll get a lot of hours out of it. I like minigames and little puzzles, so it’s fun to play for a bit every day. Almost reminds me of brain age in that way.

The plush aspect and decorating rooms is a bonus too. What pokemon fan doesn’t enjoy collecting things, right? I’m having fun making different rooms themed around certain types and filling them with plushes.

$30-ish bucks for all the content of a puzzle game is worth it for me. It won’t be for everyone, but I’m glad they went this route instead of filling it with ads or a paid currency.
