@Nao120 I agree with you. I lost interest in Air Riders pretty fast. I keep meaning to get back to it, but it’s sitting in the backlog. Meanwhile Mario Kart World is frequently a go-to when I need a racing fix.

I mean I get his stance, but I’m also sitting here trying to remember what Mega Man even sounded like in 11. I think you’d have more leverage trying to do this when voicing a character that actually has dialogue and is harder to replace.

I’m neutral on the flower. I don’t love it but they don’t bother me. I don’t feel like the commentary in Tennis Fever was prevalent enough to be annoying. That said, if the flowers disappeared, I wouldn’t care either lol

@Metazoxan Agreed, once you start getting a lot of mons, it’s hard to find them. I just leave the habitat in place until I move them.

I said 8. I wavered between a 9 but I do think, while there is certainly a lot of content here, it doesn’t reinvent the wheel. Not like a cozy game has to be completely new and innovative, necessarily. I also played it all weekend to unlock every area and I’m starting to feel burnt out. Which may be a me problem lol. Anyway, if I’m still hooked on this a few weeks from now, I’ll reevaluate the score.

Like many, I’m sure, I’ll be playing Pokopia. I’ve also been getting back into Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut, specifically the Red Light Raid mode. I’m trying to beat each level and it’s actually a lot of fun to just beat people up lol

You say it yourself, you willingly pass over the new mons. Nothing is preventing you from experimenting. If that’s fun for you, give yourself a rule that you can only use new mons. You shouldn’t need the game to force you to experiment.

24/25. Missed Wishiwashi out of all of them. For whatever reason, that one just wasn’t clocking. Got all the tricky ones like Voltorb, though!

Personally, I’ve never seen the appeal of using a “naughty” name and I don’t find it funny at all. BUT since there isn’t an online component to this, I don’t see the harm. If people want to call themselves (censored) in a game they paid for, and there isn't a chance for random kids to see it or whatever, that’s their choice.

For the switch 2, another weekend of Mario Tennis Fever for me.

I always pick based on final evolution since that’s what you’ll be spending most the game with. So who I’m picking remains to be seen

New 3DS XL was the peak both in terms of performance and size. It’s the obvious choice.

@MamaSymphonia I agree with you. This never got its hooks into me like it did with others. I played for a day or two and lost interest after I “beat” it once. It never does get more interesting. There are different variations they throw at you, sure, but fundamentally it’s just poker over and over again. I wish there was a little more to it to keep it engaging, but evidently I’m in the minority there.

I hadn’t even heard of this one until the shutting down news. The market for live service multiplayer games is just too saturated these days. Seems like Fortnite has such a dominating hold on the market too. If a new live service game isn’t attached to a major IP, like Marvel Rivals for example, then it just doesn’t seem to have a chance to break out and find an audience.

These days, it’s a bit underwhelming to only include one entry in the series. A more robust collection with at least Rayman 2 would’ve been a more fitting celebration, imo.

I miss badge arcade so much. I loved being able to decorate the Home Screen of the 3DS and especially liked being able to put themed badges on folders for organization. The bland system the Switch 2 has for folders just doesn’t hit the same.

@the_beaver I’m loving it. I think it’s better than Aces. There’s more content, bigger roster, and more modes. The gameplay is solid and the fever rackets are a decently fun gimmick.

I kind of hope the Pokemon release does well enough that they reconsider this. Personally I like being able to buy the older games I want and have access to them even if I’m not paying for a subscription

I’m also still enjoying Yakuza Kiwami 3. I should be able to wrap up the main story here soon and then I’ll start Dark Ties!

Probably the best Mario Tennis game I’ve played in years. The gameplay is addicting and I’m loving Adventure and all the different modes. The roster is top-tier too and I’m glad there’s so much to unlock.

@WiltonRoots You are so right. When news about these things is on major gaming sites like NL, they aren’t going to stay up for long. Almost no company is going to let something like that go unanswered when it’s getting so much attention.

This is a good week for me with my first new games of the year! On Switch, I’m playing Mario Tennis Fever. So far, I’m enjoying it more than Aces. I feel like there’s more single player content here. The Adventure is charming, good variety of modes, and there’s plenty to unlock. Sure, idk how long it’ll take me to do everything, but the tennis gameplay is fantastic so I know I’ll play it a lot even after everything has been achieved.

I also got Yakuza 3 Kiwami for PS5, but I’ll mention it here since it’s also released on Switch. I’m loving it so far. The original 3 was a rough one for me because I came to it after Kiwami 2, so I’m enjoying the update. I feel like the beginning hasn’t been as slow. Although, I’ve also spent 4 hours yesterday just messing around in Kamurocho and only barely made it to Okinawa. Got too busy playing minigames to collect decorations for Kiryu’s flip phone lol. Gotta love the many distractions of Yakuza.

Angry Birds was a fad that never managed to turn itself into a brand with longevity. I used to play all those original apps on an iPod touch, and they were great! But any time they tried to make something other than the original gameplay, it never worked for me. Definitely a relic of the 00s.

@SillyG I agree. I have little desire to play fundamentally the same game 5 times. It would’ve been more enticing if this was a robust collection of the series, not just the original.

I’ll have to see reviews. I like the vibe, but watching that trailer makes the gameplay seem pretty limited. Might have been better as an app to pop into for a few minutes at a time. Hoping it’s deeper than it looks.

2K Battlegrounds is the only one of these I played, but it got so repetitive. The commentary was incredibly annoying too. I think I got it on a Black Friday sale, but even then, I felt like I wasted my money lol.

Ports would be fine, but considering Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee were basically Red & Blue remakes already, there’s no need to return yet again. There’s enough love for the original 151 on Switch. And I’m saying this as an OG fan lol

I just don’t see it being on NSO. If it is, any trade functionality will be handicapped. There’s no chance GF will let people get Pokemon for “free” that they can send to Home.

If I’m wrong, I’ll be happy, but I don’t see it.

@no_donatello I played the series from 0, Kiwami, and Kiwami 2 to 3. It was a rough transition. The gameplay felt far more dated comparatively. There will still be a bit of a rough transition between Kiwami 3 and 4, but I still think 4 felt more “modern”, so ideally this should be a friendlier way to experience the story for newcomers.

4 and 5 hold up pretty well, but it’s still a shame we won’t get to play as Akiyama again anytime soon. I’d love if he got a spinoff.

This is a tough call for me. I’m a single player gamer, but I do enjoy the sports games. I put a lot of time into the old 3DS tennis game and that had barebones single player content. Still… I have some serious internal debating to do haha

Disappointed to hear the solo content is so minimal. Was hoping for more with the adventure mode.

Bloated side content in a Yakuza game? That’s the point, my dude. Infinite Wealth took me away from the story for days to do the Dondoko Island side game. Yakuza 0 became a cabaret management sim for a few days. I want to be completely derailed from the main narrative when I play Yakuza lol. Can’t wait for this.
