This one was pretty decent but man, I feel like it’s been awhile since they’ve had a new prize worth spending points on. I was pretty disappointed that Princess Peach only got folders…
Considering we’re getting Despicable Me 4 this year, yeah, I’d say more Mario films are a given. Illumination won’t let it end as long as they keep making money.
This one has been sitting incomplete in my backlog for quite a while. Just a long game I don’t have time for so I can’t imagine how long it would be with all that extra content. Thats JRPGs for you.
At some point the servers should boot people out, right? I guess I’m not understanding how people are able to hang in there if the servers are supposedly down.
Finally got this game, it’s currently on sale for $15.99, and it’s perfect for that price. It’s a really solid kart racer and has everything I want for my racing fix. Like this review says, it’s very similar to Mario Kart, but that’s not a bad thing. Controls are responsive, good selection of racers, and the visuals and courses are great. All around solid time.
While I do wish there were a few more tracks, 12 is serviceable. The 12 they have feel unique, but you can tell from the settings that the Smurfs are pretty limited on locations. I feel that if they added anymore, they wouldn’t have felt very unique. And the 12 are used as mirror courses, so that adds a bit to replay value. There are also time trials for extra challenge so they get a lot of use out of those 12 tracks.
If, like me, you want a fun racer that isn’t Mario Kart for some variety, this is a great option. Even if you don’t have any connection with the Smurfs, it’s a fun little game. Definitely worth the sale price.
@Aerona Counterpoint, it incentives playing Fortnite on the Switch. That’s what Nintendo is all about, making sure you use their system because their content isn’t available anywhere else.
Guarding their IP is why they’re so successful because let’s be honest, most people probably play Fortnite on other more powerful systems rather than the Switch. Locking Samus to their system would force players to do otherwise.
I’m not surprised, they’ve done this with a lot of cross-platform games. Minecraft has exclusive Nintendo DLC. Starlink had Starfox as an exclusive character and the Skylanders series had Donkey Kong and Bowser exclusively for Switch. I know there are other examples too. It’s their M.O. with this kind of thing.
Backlog is tough. Considering some games can take a 100 hours to complete, you really do have to prioritize what interests you.
My goal for this year is to stop buying things I won’t immediately play. If it’s a hyped game I’ll play right away then I’ll buy it. If not, it goes on the wishlist until I’m ready. It really helps because a backlog with dozens upon dozens of games is pretty daunting, especially if you just keep adding to it.
Might actually get back to this game once these adjustments hit. I admit, I’ve been pretty bad at this but I think these changes should balance it a bit better. Here’s hoping I can finally win a run!
The DLC for power wash simulator intrigues me, but I just feel like I’d be bored out of mind after a few minutes. Every time I think of buying it, I watch the trailer first and then I think again lol.
Not shaming those that enjoy this kind of thing, though.
The price for this is wild. It’s such a minimal collection. And Felix is not a big IP these days that will have people forking over the asking price to play. I just can’t justify paying full price for it.
I’ll wishlist it and try it out if it ever goes on sale. It’s a shame there isn’t more on offer here to get me to buy this day one.
Nintendo has always done a good job of placing themselves up front. Took me way too long to learn Pokemon was made by GameFreak or Fire Emblem was done by Intelligent Systems. They want the brand to be what people buy and it’s worked so far.
No one is buying a Peach game because of who made it. They’re buying to play as Princess Peach. The IP is what sells and it’s what Nintendo wants you to focus on.
I can’t help but think it’s a shame Nintendo has committed to Switch Online for releasing old games. I would’ve loved an F-Zero collection that included the GBA games.
Other companies like Capcom and Konami have been putting out some fun compilation packages. F-Zero wooden been perfect for such a collection, but sadly Nintendo will never do it as long as it’s a selling point for Switch Online. Maybe someday…
@Not_Soos My guess is Mario Kart Tour took too much effort and time to design new tracks, drivers, karts, etc. The Mario Run “event” is as simple as can be. Just some missions to do in levels that already exist and 3 new statues of Peach. That’s it. Can’t imagine it took much manpower to put together.
Wait, actual new statues? This is the first time they’ve added new content in ages. The Wonder event just reused old statues for prizes as far as I could tell.
@EarthboundBenjy my absolute favorite part of Legends Arceus was I could obtain every Pokemon from just that game. Made the whole thing so much more enjoyable.
Don’t care if this is unpopular, but the move to DLC instead of the third edition is one of the best things Pokemon has done on the Switch. I much prefer being able to play new content with my team from the original rather than having to start over.
I did not enjoy having to play 80% of the same game for Ultra Sun and Moon just to get to some new stuff at the end. The new stuff was great, but having to start from scratch to experience it wasn’t a good time. I personally think the third games are best left in the past.
@Ryu_Niiyama well said. The only thing I’ll bother with in a game museum is photos. Concept art, promotional ads, etc. But even then, I won’t flip through them more than once. I never watch video interviews either. Like you said, if I wanted to see those things, I could probably find them elsewhere. But when it comes to a game? I just want to play it lol
Is anyone surprised by this? Makes sense Nintendo wouldn’t put icons in regions where the game is unplayable. I feel like that would’ve been actually worse to be able to get icons for a game you can’t play.
Now, maybe we’ll actually get an official Mother 3 translation someday…. We can dream at least
I’ll be honest. When I saw you gave this a 10, I thought you were out of your minds. But the game intrigued me enough to give it a go and I have to say…
10/10 is spot on. This game is super addicting and incredibly fun. Glad I made the purchase!
Lacking the Mario gimmick is not a con to me. I wish Mario just had normal sets instead. Don’t get me wrong, the interactive thing looks cool for a kid, but as an adult, I would just want a neat set to display somewhere.
This seems like a tough one to review. Because on the one hand, the originals seem like they hold up. But on the other hand, all of the extra features and “new” games sounds pretty cruddy. Seems like this game as a collection would be a much lower score but it’s saved by the quality of the originals.
Emulating old games is one thing. Outright piracy is another. Once you start cutting into current Switch sales of games on the market, Nintendo is going to take action. Nothing about wanting Tears of the Kingdom for free has to do with “preservation.”
Hopefully for those that actually want to preserve old stuff, this is a lesson.
I think game preservation is often used to mask straight up piracy. Because wanting to preserve an obscure NES game that’s out of print and hard to play is very different from wanting a brand new Switch game for free. The two are separate in my eyes but a lot of pirates like to hide behind the guise of “preservation”
