Re: Opinion: Kirby Air Riders & Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road Have Me Wishing For More Control Experimentation

Waluigi451

I don’t think it’s a problem for Mario Kart games to play like Mario Kart games. There’s an expectation players have for the series and the appeal of any series is that continuity between games where they evolve yet retain some of the formula. What I think is boring is other kart racers, like say Sonic CrossWorlds, essentially copying Mario Kart’s control scheme. Almost every modern kart racer that I’ve played fundamentally controls like Mario Kart with only a few tweaks here and there. There’s pros and cons to that, of course. Break too far off the norm and you risk alienating people. Unfortunately, Kirby Air Rider’s sales in certain markets (UK for one) is seeming to reflect this risk.

Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond: amiibo Unlocks Revealed

Waluigi451

Old amiibo don’t give you anything? How bizarre. Hope there just a translation error and there’s at least something.

The cutscene is an odd one too. Honestly, none of these seem worth it so I definitely won’t go out of my way to get these amiibo at their current prices.

Re: "Consumers Generally Do Not Care" About AI In Games, Says Former Square Enix Exec

Waluigi451

I really don’t think the player count on 2 games is enough to make that statement. I don’t think it’s true either. A Roblox meme game is not a good indicator of whether or not consumers care about AI in games. 1) It’s within Roblox, a massively successful game. Would people play “steal a brainrot” if it was its own thing? Doubtful. And 2) it’s a meme. People are doing it for the “lulz.” That’s not going to be something you can recapture and people will get bored of it and move on.

The other point I want to make is that his final line about people using “emotion rather than logic” and get upset that companies use AI for some things over others has to be deliberately misunderstanding what the complaints about AI are. AI should be a tool, not a replacement for people and creativity. Using AI to assist with coding is much different from using AI to replace artists and designers. Majority of complaints about AI are not that it’s used at all, but that’s it’s used to a severe degree that it replaces the human element behind its creation.

Re: Poll: What Do You Make Of Link And Zelda's Live-Action Looks?

Waluigi451

They are instantly identifiable as Link and Zelda, which is the goal. There’s not much else to say.

In this day and age, most movies adapting IP play it “safe” with designs. Back in the day you’d get more creative interpretations of costumes (like say Green Goblin in Rami’s Spider-Man). But today, people want things to look exactly like the thing it’s adapting so, for the most part, that’s what studios do. Look at Superman this year, you had costumes ripped out of the comics for Superman, Guy, Mr. Terrific, etc. So I’m not surprised that Zelda is in her BOTW costume and Link is in a classic green one. They were never going to get too crazy with the designs (which is probably good in this case).

Re: Feature: 10 Years On, Is Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival Really That Bad?

Waluigi451

Yes, it was that bad. I got it on a steep clearance back in the day from Toys R Us (that really dates it lol) just for the Isabelle and Digby amiibo. Played it once and was bored out of my mind. It’s pretty much a boring version of Mario Party. Now granted, I played alone, but I still enjoy playing Mario Party alone against CPUs, so it should still be enjoyable with or without people.

The one saving grace were the minigames, but even then, it wasn’t a great experience and you had to slog through the main game to unlock those (talk about a feat of endurance). I do think yeah, if it was free, it would be fine. There was a Mario vs DK game back on the Wii U and 3DS that was free and unlocked levels with certain Mario amiibo characters. So something like that would’ve been ok but, even then, it wouldn’t have made the game any less of a chore to play through.

Re: "These Shouldn't Be The Only Games Being Made" - Keiji Inafune Critical Of Reliance On Big IPs

Waluigi451

@ROMhaiku Your point is kind of what I was trying to get at. Companies today are very risk averse. They don’t want to invest a lot in a risk that might flop. That and customers generally gravitate to familiar brands. So yes, the talent is there, but it’s riskier to invest a lot into something that isn’t a more guaranteed bet like a proven IP with a consistent sales record.

Re: "These Shouldn't Be The Only Games Being Made" - Keiji Inafune Critical Of Reliance On Big IPs

Waluigi451

New games and ideas are great, but the market is a lot like the movie industry rn. IP sells. People say they want new things, but their money goes to the familiar IPs.

There have been plenty of new ideas recently that flopped. Nintendo tried Drag x Drive and there was also Playsation’s Concord disaster. Concord had plenty of reasons it flopped, sure, but Sony put a lot of money into developing it and it didn’t pan out. So that’s why more and more companies rely on IP, because there’s usually a fanbase baked in that will buy a series no matter what because it’s familiar to them. They know what to expect, more or less. It’s a lot easier to convince someone to buy a new Pokemon game than it is to convince them to take a risk on something new.

Re: Opinion: Third-Party Support For Switch 2 Is Already A Dream Come True

Waluigi451

Nintendo is finally getting the third party support I wanted as a kid. It was rough to be a kid that only had Nintendo systems. To this day, my biggest gaming disappointment was buying Disney Infinity for the 3DS. I was so excited for it until I booted it up and learned the 3DS version was just a Mario Party knockoff, not the awesome platform and toybox game that I saw in the commercials. Thankfully I was able to return it and get the Wii version, but I was still so disappointed my Nintendo handheld got an inferior version.

These days, I do have a PS5 so I haven’t double dipped too much, but now that the Switch 2 is getting current third party support, I will definitely start considering it as an option more in the future. Needless to say though, younger me would have been stoked by this generation.
