Re: Talking Point: Do You Play Zelda Games For The Story?

Waluigi451

I like bits of it and the characters, but I’ve rarely found Zelda games to have unique or compelling stories. Most of them are just “Ganon has returned!”

That said, there are some memorable moments, like Twilight Princess or some of the Toon games, but as a whole I’m rarely blown away by a Zelda story in the way I have been by other narrative games like say Red Dead Redemption 2.

Re: Mailbox: The Wii U's Legacy, Mii Singing, Hippos - Nintendo Life Letters

The Wii U was just my favorite little weird experimental phase from Nintendo. Yeah, the gamepad could be clunky, but it could also be a blast. I know it was critically panned, but I had some great memories playing Star Fox Zero and that Star Fox tower defense game it came with. And Game & Wario had some great utilization of the gamepad (specifically the 9-Volt one). I could go on, but I think the Wii U will always have a place for the unique experience. Even the ports of Wii U games to Switch aren’t the same without that two screen functionality.

@gusz I definitely needed a break myself. I cleared Chronos a bunch and beat Olympus once then just needed to step away for awhile. That second one is no joke. It was too stressful for me to want to keep doing it.

I felt like I never got tired of going through the original, though. Maybe once I get back into it I’ll feel differently, but I think there’s a fine line with roguelikes being challenging enough that you want to keep doing it and get better each time, but also being too challenging that doing a run is a slog.

Re: Review: Pokémon Champions (Switch) – The Most Accessible & Flawed Competitive Pokémon Has Ever Been

Waluigi451

What got me the most about it is how the battling just looks like it was ripped out of Scarlet and Violet.

Personally, I’m not a competitive player. I tried it and deleted it, but I can see how others might want a separate, dedicated competitive experience. However, from what I played, this doesn’t seem like it’s there yet and they might as well have kept the competitive scene in S/V. But, gotta do that monetization I guess.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give The Super Mario Galaxy Movie?

Waluigi451

6/10 is fair. It’s fun, but the plot is paper thin. I really wish it was two hours so it had some time to breathe and do a little more character development. Too often, the characters were just jumping from thing to thing (Bowser letting himself get captured only to immediately be freed the next scene, for example). It’s a fun experience, though. I know a 6/10 may seem to some like I didn’t enjoy it, but I did, just also recognizing it has shortcomings and I can see why people who aren’t Nintendo-fanatics like those of us here will find it lacking.

Re: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Is Already Breaking Box Office Records

Waluigi451

@somnambulance I agree with you. I think for video games, it’s because there’s a technical aspect to them, so reviews are valuable for revealing the experience of using the product. Clunky controls, bugs, and whatnot are more objective. For other media — film, books, tv — it’s more subjective and a matter of taste. Unless you know a reviewer generally likes what you do and dislikes what you dislike, their opinion isn’t likely to sway you. That’s definitely the case for the Mario movie because what a Nintendo fan is looking for is a lot different than the film critic of Variety or whatever lol

Re: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Is Already Breaking Box Office Records

The performance reflects this era we’re in for the theater industry. Family movies, especially ones built around a popular IP, kill it. Minecraft, live action Lilo & Stitch, Zootopia 2, and Moana 2 are all some of the biggest box office earners in the past couple years. People seem to be the most willing to spend theater prices when they’re going to something they’re familiar with and something for families. The quality of the movie doesn’t matter and review scores were never going to move the needle in a meaningful way. IP sells and is (generally) review-proof.

Re: Feature: No Love For Simisage? - The 47 Pokémon That Didn't Get A Single Vote In Our Polls

Waluigi451

@Daniel36 Because trubbish is the stereotypical “hated” pokemon for being literal trash lol. The ones no one voted for are the truly overlooked ones. There’s always going to be fans of the over-hated pokemon. Besides, when was this poll? Trubbish has a major role in one of the Pokopia storylines, and he’s funny and cute there, so wouldn’t be surprised if he picked up fans from that.

Re: Video: How To Build A 'Real' House In Pokémon Pokopia

Waluigi451

@Liam_Doolan I get the idea behind the video and article, but I also think some beginners will go from this article to wondering why they can’t get a pokemon to move in to their new house. A simple sentence explaining the furniture requirements to turn a house into a home would benefit beginners even more.

Re: Video: How To Build A 'Real' House In Pokémon Pokopia

Waluigi451

A trick I’ve seen going around for building a bigger house that can hold a lot of Pokemon is to make rooms that each have walls, decorations, and a door. So then you have multiple “houses” inside of one big one. Haven’t had the time to do this myself, but I do like the idea of a pokemansion lol

Re: Mailbox: Senran Kagura Mysteries, First-Party Indies, Miyamoto Tragedies - Nintendo Life Letters

Waluigi451

To "blast that 'x'", I think the consequence of more third party support on the Switch is that Nintendo has backed off on first-party indies. They themselves don’t need to fill the game catalog as much as they did for the 3DS. They’re happy to let third parties fill the void between major releases now. Which is a shame because some of my favorite gaming memories on the 3DS were with the u pique surprises like Pocket Card Jockey, Dillon, and Rusty’s Real Deal Baseball

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (14th March)

Waluigi451

Maybe some Pokopia? I unlocked every area and honestly started to feel overwhelmed about what I should do next. There’s just so much to rebuild, which isn’t a bad thing, but it also just made me freeze up haha. I need to get over that hump.

Otherwise, I’m playing some Mario Tennis Fever and Mario Kart World.
