I think this is a really cool collector's item. And I don't think people are complaining that it isn't worth $200, I certainly think it is, but even if you're getting all the games at a little bit of a discount, you're still dropping $200 at once. Sure people may spend s similar amount on a single game and it's expansions, but that is over months, if not years.
They're all bad, but I'll take Japan because I like the art. The info on both the NA and Japan ones is unfortunate, but the design of the Euro is drab and haphazard.
Like the staff most of my Switch library is digital. I only tend to buy first party games on cart because indie games are almost always cheaper digital AND actually available at launch.
If it was significantly cheaper I would consider a digital only. Nintendo products are my secondary consoles and the realities of me returning to a physical library down the road is highly unlikely.
There is definitely a stubborn part of me that likes having physical games still, but it's just increasingly impractical.
I don't think any console needs to be BC with the previous generation, but at minimum its a nice PR win from the get go.
With a Switch Lite I'll probably just keep that handy for a long time. Depending on what the Switch successor is or isn't I may not get one at all or not for several years after launch - I got my Lite 3 years ago and didn't have a Switch prior to.
@Zeldork This. I'd like to see Tomb Raider Anniversary ported to Switch. That's an excellent update of the og and captures the essence of the old games.
I think the comments that a survival mode should have just been included are pretty off base. Arcade mode is pretty much the only standard mode most beat 'em ups come with.
The game was also, what, $25 at launch? $8 doesn't seem unreasonable for an expansion at all, one that some people might play for hours and hours.
It's very much like Streets of Rage 4's Mr. X Nightmare DLC, which I thought was excellent. It was a clever way to leverage the gameplay and assets they had to make something fun and different.
Unfortunately it's unrealistic for indies to make brand new stages for titles like this. I wish Streets of Rage 4 had some new stages, but I had fun with Mr. X.
I like both, but I think the simplicity of the EU/NA is better. I don't like the color palette of the Japanese one, everything blinds together a little too much.
I'm bummed the Ubi Art engine was just dropped entirely after the two Rayman games, Child of Light and Valiant Hearts. It made beautiful games and I was hoping they'd license it out to indies.
Love this game, one of the great run 'n gunners for me. Gutted, but frankly not surprised, that it isn't coming to PlayStation. Sucks all the same, especially since og Alien Hominid was also on PS2.
I picked this up earlier in the summer and have been slowly working through it - my Switch is my secondary platform. It's a fun sequel that I think is both better and maybe a little worse than Kingdom Battle. I think the world exploration is more enjoyable but some of the combat changes aren't really improvements to me.
Echoing other comments. I thought there was some cool stuff in this game but the gameplay was very boring. It's too bad they didn't get to iterate on it. I just assumed the game bombed and that's why there weren't more.
I haven't played a new Switch game all year. I've been playing Sparks of Hope recently, so that would be my game of choice on Switch currently - I know it came out in 2022.
My GOTY so far is Street Fighter 6, and I don't expect that to change. Alan Wake 2, Sea of Stars, The Plucky Squire and Baldur's Gate III are the only serious contenders I see.
I love this game, one of the first RPGs I ever played. Totally not feeling like this is a $60 game though. I assume Nintendo is publishing it rather than Square, which means it'll never get a super sale
I don't know why this one didn't find its audience, but I don't think it's because the original was also on Switch. Maybe people didn't love the original game! I thought it was great, but I bet there are some people that bought it expecting a Mario or Rabbids type game and got neither!
I think this game looks cool. I get comments that it doesn't look like PoP, though. PoP has always had fantastical stuff, and over the top stuff, and this seems to be turning it to 11. I could see why that might wrankle some folks, but I'll give it a shot.
I would like to see a more "classic" sidescrolling PoP someday, but I don't think that style of game will come back.
I haven't played a lot of modern Sonic games, but I did find myself a little over Green Hill Zone. It just felt like the games felt like they had to have this nostalgic hook to be relevant. I'm just glad to see them try new ideas and zones.
I don't know much about the developer but that sounds like a pretty large staff considering their output. It's also been a while since they released a game. I think this likely another game development is hard scenario. And running your own studio is probably doubly so.
This is one of my all time favorite games. I definitely will pick it up again.
I will say it seems a bit disingenuous to call it a remaster though, since it appears to just be Clash of Heroes HD, which came to PS3, 360 and PC a few years after the DS. That was a remaster, but like 10 years ago
I have a Switch Lite and can't see myself buying a Switch Switch ever. Only reason might be ao my son can play on the TV when he's older, but he's a toddler now and maybe the game's will work on the inevitable successor.
@AtlanteanMan I love the three IP you mentioned, but if you think buying Etrian Collection for $80 at launch makes it any more likely we'll see those games revived, well, I admire your unwavering optimism.
I don't have much faith in Sega and any old IP that isn't easily ported Genesis fodder. Sega Forever on mobile was supposed to be a hub for their entire catalog and once again they never moved past Genesis and the half dozen Dreamcast games that have made the rounds.
I think this is a case where Sega knows there is a very passionate group of Etrian players and some of them will pay premium dollar to rebuy them.
You by Austin Grossman is a decent novel in the gaming space.
I've had my eye on Tomorrow. Polygon had it on their recommended novels for 2022. I just haven't been in a novel reading space of my life currently. I kind of read in fits - plow through a few books in quick succession and then fall off reading for a long while.
I think it's a wash. I went with JP because I like the balance of that one with all the empty space juxtaposed with the busy cast area. I'm also a sucker for the logo with the Japanese characters, which also has a little more room to breathe.
@romanista Super Mega Baseball is also great. I only played the first. I had intended to check out the third one but for whatever reason forgot about it entirely.
I think the difference to me was I really liked all the lite RPG stuff in Power Pros. SMB, at least the first one, was kind of lacking in content. The gameplay was great, I loved the characters (although the animation was mediocre); it was a great starting point for future iteration.
I should look back and check it out again. It was a nice break after slamming my head against the wall the last time I played The Show.
Well I'll see what's there, but since I don't have Switch Online it might be pointless. I had the PS2 version of Power Pros and it's one of my all time favorite baseball games. I loved all of the hijinks off the field, but even the arcadey gameplay hit the right spot. It was the most fun I ever had in a sports game by myself.
I was always bummed the series didn't find its audience. That was the best shot I thought - it had the MLB license and everything.
My most anticipated Switch game this year by a mile. Not sure if I want to play the demo or not. Kind of leaning not since I'll just be sad waiting another 6 months.
I wouldn't, but I generally don't buy games at release ever anymore - maybe one a year? I bought Elden Ring last year for full MSRP, and I plan on getting Street Fighter 6 at launch but that's it.
For the record, I don't think $70 is unreasonable for new games, Zelda or otherwise. It's just not a luxury I can afford often.
I've never bought a Switch game for full price ever, so this doesn't effect me much. However, if it starts at $70, based on Nintendo's stingy sales, I would guess $50 is the cheapest I'll ever find it new, even years later
I still need to go back and finish BotW so I can decide if I even want to play TotK.
Maybe we'll get a new Mario game on Switch because I'm guessing Mario Kart 9 is the primary launch game. Isn't this the first Nintendo platform since SNES, other than Virtual Boy, to not have its own original MK release?
I don't think any of them are great, but I'll take NA. I think NA could be better if it used some of the whites like EU for contrast. I think the composition is best in NA but the characters and logo don't pop given all of the dark shades.
I bought this on launch and never started it after seeing the reviews. I think once I finish up Kirby and the Forgotten Land I'll finally check it out since it'll have a few patches on board.
Golf Story was such a joy to me. I'm gutted no one thinks this one lives up to it, but I'm sure there's some fun and chuckles to be had.
This might be a pass for me. I've loved the previous games but haven't got into a sim-type game since Roller Coaster Tycoon 2. Maybe I'll check the demo out on Steam.
I've also gotta say I think the game looks nice, but I want my SteamWorld games in 2D :/
I think my major problem was the related inventory management. I spent a lot of time fumbling around deciding what weapon to drop, and while that makes you think it's also a lot of tedious busy work - it doesn't help that the inventory is SLOW as molasses, at least on my Switch Lite.
The other issue is one of my big issues with BotW on a whole - I don't love the game. There certainly is a good argument that everything is useful, figuring out how even the most obscure item has a cool use, but when all the weapons bust so quickly they never felt special or rewarding. Like I found this well hidden treasure chest and my reward is a sword that will be broken 10 minutes later... This feeling really killed my desire to explore in BotW, which basically killed BotW.
The sequel needs to find a balance to truly rewarding players with cool gear and still encouraging experimentation.
I think Nintendo would be leaving a lot of money on the table abandoning the hybrid console format, and I don't think they will be willing to do that now.
I don't think the GameCube to Wii is especially informative either. I know people love the GameCube, but I think "modest success" is another word for failure in Nintendo's book. Nintendo had to innovate and differentiate since it could not, or would not, play in the tech deep end with Sony and Microsoft. And it was the best decision the company ever made!
Today though, they are the clear industry leader again. I think Nintendo can still be a leader in innovation, but it'll be in features and ways you can use its new hybrid console.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Wario Land: Shake It!
Honestly, I like them all. I went NA just because I love the illustration of Wario shaking that enemy so violently.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - Castlevania: Order Of Ecclesia
I like both but gave the edge to JP/European. I like the dynamism a bit more in Shanoa's pose more, plus the framing of the moon behind her.
NA is very classic Castlevania with the hero and castle in the background. Nothing wrong with it and the art is lovely.

@DwaynesGames It's $60. It's already up for pre-order on the eShop.

Mario RPG and Wonder obviously stole the show. I don't think anything else even vaguely interested me, but that's okay.
