Re: Soapbox: It's Time To Normalise Giving Up On Games Early

RudeAnimat0r

I totally agree with the sentiment of this piece, but I also would highlight that it's time for most games to get significantly better with their pacing. I have a ton of unfinished games that I like and would like to play more of that I tire out of due to horrible bloat and pacing issues.

I know I personally have that feeling where I need to roll credits on most games, even though it's kind of an arbitrary mile post. I think my favorite games of recent memory I never finished would be Sekiro (couldn't beat the last boss), Hollow Knight (couldn't beat a boss) and Hades (it's on my PC which I almost never use). Or basically every rogue-like I start!!!!!

Re: Bethesda's Future Games Will Be "Where Game Pass Exists"

RudeAnimat0r

I'm primarily a PS gamer so this really bums me out, but it's really not surprising. You don't shell out $7.5b to continue releasing marquee titles on your competition's hardware.

I guess I will look into Game Pass on PC when the next group of interesting Bethesda games drops. I don't see Nintendo or Sony allowing Game Pass on their platforms, especially since in Sony's case they have PS Now, which isn't the same but surely Game Pass would cannibalize their existing subs.

One thing certain is I still won't be buying an Xbox. I can't afford to have a Switch, a PS5, an XBSX and a PC. And I also am not happy about not owning games - I get I could still buy them on PC, but Game Pass might be necessary since my PC may not be up to snuff so I'll need streaming to play.

Re: Atlus Wants To Know What Games You Want Ported To Switch

RudeAnimat0r

I mostly want the PSP Persona 1 and 2 remakes. If we got P3FES and P4Golden I'd consider grabbing them - I didn't finish either vanilla game back on PS2 and didn't have the will to start either over back then, just like I have no desire for P5R since I beat P5 a few years back.

If we're going beyond Persona, I would consider buying Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 if ported. But realistically these are all long add games and I don't have that much time anymore. I bought the Soul Hackers rerelease on 3DS and maybe played 10 hours before stopping. These games need to have some modern QOL additions.

Re: Soapbox: The Modern Games Industry Has A Hype Problem, And It Needs To Stop

RudeAnimat0r

I mean, I see where this article is coming from and I agree it's very easy to fall for the promise of a game before it exists, but like, that's the consumer's choice. I was a victim of getting too excited for Cyberpunk, because it was the marriage of Deus Ex by way of The Witcher in my head. Honestly though, I don't feel that burned. What I've played I've still enjoyed, it's just not the open world Deus Ex I had wrongly assumed it would be.

I think what you're really angling at is a problem with fanboy culture and knee-jerk reactions to news and the lack of news. Unfortunately that is part of any fandom. And really, we shouldn't bemoan people for being as passionate or dispassionate about something as they desire, so long as it doesn't impede our ability to enjoy it too.

I think your bit about players not finishing games kind of weakens your argument too. Games that don't have tons of hype remain largely unfinished too. It's easy to single out games for this since we have handy lists to track players' completions, but I could list at least half a dozen novels on my bookshelf I've read part of and never finished. I just don't log that info on GoodReads. Game completion is a function of so many things beyond whether a game lives up to its hype or not - I mean I thought Fallen Order looked like trash and ended up loving it and getting the Platinum. And Sekiro, another game I love, and actually bought on release, I never finished because the final boss is a POS. And I definitely dumped more hours into Sekiro, but I may never have the game beaten trophy, so that's a hugely misleading measure.

Re: Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Hits Switch This July Alongside Themed Joy-Con

RudeAnimat0r

@BlueOcean I mean they're doing it because they know people will buy it. They're banking on hardcore Nintendo folks, which I am not, and their potential new Zelda audience who got into BotW. It's smart business wise for them to get that $$$, it just sucks.

If people don't buy it, which I won't, they'll have to reexamine their price points for future eereleases. But that isn't going to happen.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The February 2021 Nintendo Direct, Then?

RudeAnimat0r

Somewhere in the middle. I liked some of the indies coming like Outer Wilds. Tactics successor looked dope. Mario Golf might be cool? (Not high expectations, arcade golf has really been stagnant for years and Speed Golf looks gimmicky as hell). SSHD is a cool release but a joke at $60 MSRP.

I think it was a good, thorough show, it just largely missed any of the types of games I care about personally. Was hoping we'd see Shin Megami Tensei V. That would have been a realistic game to cover given its supposed release window. I knew Metroid 4 was a pipedream but I hoped a port of the Prime Collection might be a reality.

Re: Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Hits Switch This July Alongside Themed Joy-Con

RudeAnimat0r

Echoing previous comments, but $60 for SSHD is ridiculous. I respect Nintendo and their premium pricing of content, they value their IP and work, but how do you charge $60 for a ten year old game with such modest improvements? Even freaking EA is more with it! Mass Effect Legendary has THREE huge RPGs all with substantial reworking for the same MSRP.

I agree with others, this should have been in a pack similar to Mario 3D All-Stars with comparable pricing. I've never played this one and heard it's one of the worst Zeldas, so I'll pass until it's $30 or less.

Re: A New Trailer For Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury Is Airing Later Today

RudeAnimat0r

I'm hype for 3D World. I never owned a WiiU or any previous Nintendo home console. I've had a Switch Lite for less than a month. I adored 3D Land, and I'm excited about 3D World and hopefully playing it online with friends.

As a Switch newcomer I would agree that 2020 was pretty light for first-party Nintendo but I don't honestly care much. I bought a Switch probably 75% for Indies, 25% first-party stuff.

Re: Jim Carrey Takes Home Critics Choice Award For His Sonic The Hedgehog Movie Performance

RudeAnimat0r

@Clyde_Radcliffe See I would say he was great in movies like Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber and The Cable Guy, because he was creating characters. Part of those characters will always be the madcap, slapstick Carrey antics, and I'm okay with that.

Perhaps Carrey was a little toned down in Sonic, but it still didn't really jive with me
He had a few good lines and moments.

@would_you_kindly So it's been a loooong time since I've seen it but my memory of The Grinch is that it was 50% amazing and 50% unwatchable filler, and a lot of that filler was him going wild. The Grinch is a cartoon, I get it, but there's still a balancing act that I don't think he respects - or that his directors fail to grasp.

I'm happy other people loved him in these roles.

Re: You Can Now Pre-Order The Amazing SEGA Astro City Mini

RudeAnimat0r

Asking for money before the full game list is released is pretty cruel. Suppose it doesn't matter, basically no way I am buying this. It would need to have like all of the Model 2 fighters and some Naomi stuff for me to be interested at that price, and even then it's not super convenient for multiplayer.

Re: Sega's Game Gear Micro Was Originally Going To Be Even More Stingy

RudeAnimat0r

All I can do is laugh at these. I want one for the novelty factor, but as has been said many times over they look too small to be functional. Plus 4 games a piece is a joke. They should have 10 games each, minimum.

Honestly, they should increase the size 1.5x and have 20+ games and charge $75 it that's what it takes. The alternative is a novelty toy, which is cute, kind of cool, but wholly impractical as a way to enjoy Game Gear games in 2020.

Re: Sega Laments Poor Performance Of Its Console Releases In Latest Financial Report

RudeAnimat0r

I don't even own a Switch but Persona 5R and Sakura Wars seem like no brainers on Switch. Persona has traditionally been a PS series so I don't know if there is some agreement woth Sony holding it up, but given Scramble coming to Switch I would be surprised if 5R doesn't eventually jump over.

As a PS4 owner, I'm not even excited about 5R. I don't want to play a somewhat different version of a 90 hour game I already beat. Sega needs to invest more in Atlus. They are making awesome games, but it just seems like it takes them forever to churn out console games. They haven't released a single original game on current gen: 5 was cross-gen, 5R is a remake, Mirage Sessions is a port and Catherine is a port. They used to buoy this with smaller DS and 3DS releases, but that isn't a market anymore.
