Re: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge Probably Won't Get Any DLC

RudeAnimat0r

Costumes are totally unrealistic, but if the game is really successful I could see Tribute and DotEmu doing something similar to Streets of Rage 4's Mr. X Nightmare. Maybe they could reappropriate a couple of the bosses with new animations as playable characters or add some new mode; something that is both cool and doable but of limited scope.

Lizard Cube and DotEmu both weren't planning DLC for Streets of Rage 4 and then it was a big hit so they reconsidered. I hope this game is as good as that. And if fans show up may be they'll make more game.

Re: Yuzo Koshiro Confirms He's Back For Vital Mega Drive Mini 2 Music

RudeAnimat0r

Not that I like to see corporations do it, but if Sega is really concerned about the cost of making a Saturn or Dreamcast Mini they should crowdfund them. The response to the Shenmue III Kickstarter proved there was an appetite for that era of Sega and people were willing to shell out for it - disregarding the actual quality of Shenmue III.

I'd back either a Saturn or Dreamcast Mini. There are dozens of titles I'd like to revisit on both that are just impractical to try and play now. I'm okay paying a small premium to do so. I think there could be a market for both at the $80 - $100 range - especially if they released more games later.

Re: Talking Point: Should Sonic Frontiers Be Delayed? We Discuss Its Bizarre Debut And Fan Reaction

RudeAnimat0r

My own opinions on the gameplay so far largely echo this article. I don't think anything they've shown looks awful, but none of it looks exciting and lacks some needed context. I think both of these vids don't sell the game well at all. I'm not entirely sure that context will change that.

Above all I still feel like the gameplay we've seen illustrates a fundamental lack of understanding on Sonic Team's part about what people actually like about Sonic games. That's what is the most dismaying to me personally.

The open world Sonic game I envisioned looks more like Burnout Paradise than this. A game where you move insanely fast through an open world but still have set paths through it. A game where obstacles can break up that speed, but you're constantly finding new routes to your destinations.

I hope I am dead wrong. I would love for this to be a real return to form for Sonic. I'll try to keep an open mind.

Re: Sega Has Considered Dreamcast & Saturn Mini But Is Worried About Extreme Costs

RudeAnimat0r

Yes. I would strongly consider buying either, as my actual hardware for each isn't functional any more. I get that they would cost more to make and buy, but there has to be some sweet spot.

Otherwise, I don't know, maybe just re-release these libraries on modern hardware!? If they have considered a mini conspe than emulating these games is doable. Save the hardware costs and just make some solid compilations for console and PC - this will tell them if the mini console market exists for these libraries and likely cost less to produce. The game's are bigger, I'd be content with 20-25 titles a piece.

Re: Here's A First Look At Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge Physical Switch Release

RudeAnimat0r

@Slain It's the same reason people make chip tunes, or play acoustic guitar, etc. Neither version is inherently better, it's a stylistic choice. I adore SoR4's graphics, but I also adore Hyper Light Drifter's graphics. Developers think they can still wriggle more out of restricting themselves to old school sprite work, and I'm here for it.

I'll concede TMNT doesn't push the sprites too far beyond Turtles in Time, but I think again that's their design choice. They're trying to make a game that looks like it could have been a 90s' arcade game, but looks like how your mind might remember it, not how they actually look.

I'm glad we have both options!

Re: Feature: Handheld Face-Off - Nintendo Switch OLED Model Vs Steam Deck

RudeAnimat0r

I would love to get a Steam Deck, but I think the most compelling argument against it when comparing it to any Switch is: I likely already have the ability to play this catalogue (but not on the go). I have a PC, not a great one, but it's hard to justify buying a second PC to play the same games. It was easy for me to justify buying a Switch Lite: I wanted to check out BotW, which I don't love actually

Re: Backlog Club: Week Zero - Hello, And Welcome To Backlog Club

RudeAnimat0r

Is the discussion guided or is it just this comments thread? I actually have played Slay the Spire recently but am happy to play more of it - it rocks.

Also, is this really going to be weekly? Slay the Spire is a game you can "beat" relatively quickly, but most games will require more time. I don't personally have a ton of gaming time, especially gaming time that I wouldn't use on my Elden Ring playthrough I feel like this might work better monthly, with new discussion threads for a single game weekly until the following title starts.

Re: Talking Point: How Long Does Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Take To Beat, Really?

RudeAnimat0r

I consider a game finished when the credits roll, but the great thing about gaming is that you dictate the experience, so I'm fine with people saying it's the moment they're personally done with it.

I haven't finished BotW by either measure. I think I've played 15-20 hours and only recently beat the first Divine Beast. I could see myself spending 60-80 hours all said, but anything more than that seems unlikely. I'm partially in that second camp ... It is literally a massive world with nothing to do lol

Cool game, but totally not what I enjoy about Zelda.

Re: PlatinumGames' Live Service Title Is Off To A Really Bad Start

RudeAnimat0r

I played the demo for Babylon's Fall and it should probably be F2P, or like a $30 game, or a single player game. The game's graphics are dated, the level design/progression is dire and the art style is not particularly catching thanks to the palette choices. The combat is decent enough but not so different from other Platinum titles to really grab you, at least in my little taster.

I think there's an okay-to-good game in there. But it has no marketing, costs $60, is not eye catching and is coming out in a brutal stretch of major releases.

Re: It's Official, Nintendo Has Withdrawn Super Smash Bros. From EVO 2022

RudeAnimat0r

@blindsquarel I'm curious about all of the comments like this. Evo is the biggest fg tournament, sure, but the idea that it's some biiiiig money maker seems kind of preposterous to me. We know nothing about its financials, and if it was a huge money maker they likely could have weathered the Mr. Wizard stuff on their own and probably wouldn't have sold themselves to Sony to begin with. Or Tencent or Saudi Arabia would have bought them!

@Caryslan Given Microsoft's current behavior I couldn't imagine them pulling a hypothetical game of theirs, ie. a new KI, from EVO. It would be hypocrisy of the highest order, considering Phil Spencer is always out there talking about cross play and wanting people to be able to play Xbox Game Studios titles whenever and wherever they want. They are going to spend $68b on Call of Duty and have said they intend to continue publishing it on PlayStation, which puts money in both theirs and Sony's pockets.

Re: It's Official, Nintendo Has Withdrawn Super Smash Bros. From EVO 2022

RudeAnimat0r

While this doesn't surprise me, I still think it's pretty dumb. Smash Bros. at this point is a celebration of gaming in general as much as it is Nintendo IP - the game has several characters far more closely associated with PlayStation than Nintendo.

Nintendo has shown time and time again they want to control everything surrounding how their games are viewed and consumed. This is their right, but it sucks for the community. Having Smash at EVO is good for EVO and good for Smash. It does nothing to ruin Nintendo's own tournament series. And having it at a Sony owned event isn't going to make people streaming Smash matches spontaneously trade in their Switches for PS5s.

Re: Atlus Announces Soul Hackers 2, But It's Not Coming To Switch

RudeAnimat0r

My guess is Atlus doesn't have the resources or knowhow to get this game on Switch, at least initially. It certainly looks like it could run on Switch, especially in a world with Sabre Interactive, but on Atlus' end they can drop basically the same SKU on the other 5 platforms with little necessary optimization.

Also, people saying the lion's share of SMT fans are on Switch is a bit misleading. Persona proper outsells the rest of the series by a wide, wide margin, so it makes sense to be on PlayStation.

I will concur though, Atlus' business decisions are routinely bizarre!

Re: PlatinumGames' Sol Cresta Blasts Onto Nintendo Switch This February

RudeAnimat0r

I don't mind them charging a premium price, but I think they're going to find it hard to get traction at $40. Different genre, but Streets of Rage 4 was $25 at launch. In hindsight that was an absolute bargain.

I think the game looks rad personally, but I haven't bought a shmup in ages. I'll check reviews and likely wait for a discount too.

Re: Rumour: Persona 4 Golden Could Be Released On Nintendo Switch In 2022

RudeAnimat0r

I never finished P4 vanilla, but would consider restarting the game with Golden. Whether I have the 100 hours to spare is my first question, and my second question is how much will it cost? I'm not paying full or close to full MSRP like Nocturne HD released at, especially not when it dropped on Steam for $20.

P4 is a great game. Ill6 be happy to see more people enjoy Persona.
