Re: Poll: Are There Any Good Lord Of The Rings Games On Nintendo Consoles?

OldManHermit

Big fan of the books and films, but I don't think I've played any of these, besides the Two Towers game, but that was the ps2 version. It was okay. Besides that, I've played Shadow of Mordor, which I just couldn't get into. I like the concept of an open world game in Mordor, but that nemesis system just didn't jive with me. I did enjoy War in the North on ps3. That was more of a strait up hacky slashy type affair.

Yep I remember picking this up at launch at this awesome little game shop in a mini mall, that is sadly now long gone. Still a masterpiece to this day, one of those rare games that I immediately started replaying after beating it the first time.

I do remember though while most people loved the game, there was a small but vocal minority of hardcore RE fans online, who took it upon themselves to constantly deride the game and claim it wasn't 'real RE' because it lacked item boxes, fixed camera angles, etc. While I do still love the older games, that's not to say a series can't change and evolve with the times. And the old formula was becoming a bit stale at the time, RE4 was the shakeup the series needed I think.

That being said, I am glad there's a bunch of indie developers still making games inspired by the old RE style.

I still play Ninja Gaiden Black and Ninja Gaiden 2 on my xbox360 from time to time. Still some of the best action games around.

Would love a collection of the nes trilogy on the Switch. It would be extra sweet if they included the og versions, as well as remasters with pixel art done by the folks working on Ragebound. But this admittedly seems doubtful.

@Mach_Rider While I wouldn't say Yaiba was a great game, I do recall having some fun with it. The combat is fast and frantic, and it has some fun platforming sections. It also looks great, love the colourful cell shaded style. But yeah, it's definitely not up to the standard of the previous games, and the effort to be overly edgy can be a bit grating.

I recently beat Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown which was fantastic, so I thought I'd go back and play the gamecube era trilogy, presently on Sands of Time. I was never the biggest fan of the combat in this game, it's much improved in the sequels, but the platforming and overall atmosphere of the game remains excellent.
