I like the first half of Leon's campaign, and there are some good moments throughout the other campaigns, but I think this is my least favourite mainline RE game. The horror elements are mostly gone, it plays out more like an overstuffed Micheal Bay action film. I think the level of over the top campiness in RE5 was perfect, but they kinda pushed it a little too far in this game. The main villain is basically a Transformer, which is silly even for this series. That being said, the kaiju sized BOW from the end of Chris' campaign was kinda cool.
Couple other things I did like, I love that you can dodge roll in this game. Seems a logical thing to do when surrounded by hordes of zombies. Roundhouse kicking a zombie in the head as Leon will never not be satisfying.
Bottom line, give me slower paced atmospheric horror, over big, bombastic action set pieces any day.
Mario Land is incredibly nostalgic for me. Reminds me of the early 90s back when I only had two gameboy games, Mario and Tetris. Simpler times to be sure.
@Sigarrsen Yeah, The RE3 remake was incredibly disappointing. It had some good moments, but it's kind of unforgivable just how much they cut out of the original.
I consider the RE1 remake the pinnacle of the series. It improves on the og version in pretty much every way, but it is still fun to revisit the PS RE1.
Huh, in my time playing I haven't experienced any major frame rate issues, I'm only on stage 3-2 though. I do agree the jumping is pretty clunky, there's a couple platforming sections that felt poorly thought out.
My other gripe is the difficulty. I'm no stranger to action games such as this, but this game is really tough, and the checkpoints are rather spaced out, meaning you'll have to fight through large sections again if you die. Maybe they're going for an old school design mentality, but some kind of easy mode would've been appreciated so I can better come to grips with the combat system. Even Strider 2 which this game draws a lot of inspiration from allows you to adjust the difficulty.
Anyway, still enjoying the game for the most part so far.
I didn't play the switch version mind you, but Mr.X from Resident Evil 2 remake actually gave me nightmares, which is something no other game has done.
I played a round of Mario Party with my sis over the Christmas holidays, wow it was a bloody battle. Some things really haven't changed since we were kids, haha. It was by the skin of my teeth, but I was ultimately victorious. Always gotta go for that minigame star, baby.
@-wc- I love UN Squadron! Fun fact, the music that plays over the character/mission select screens is almost identical to that "chocolate rain" song from years ago, I'm not even kidding.
Was playing a bit last night, it's quite charming. I felt a warm nostalgia blanket wash over me, haha. If I have one criticism, I noticed there's no swish sound when the main character cuts down a bush or whatever, unlike another sword wielding adventurer who's name escapes me.
I remember watching my friend play the original PoP on his dad's pc and being surprised by the graphic death animations, like the prince falling on spikes, or being bisected by giant blades. Definitely the most realistic violence I had seen in a game at the time.
Don't really like either to be honest. Donatello's giant head takes up way too much visual real estate in the NA one, and I don't like how all the characters behind the turtles are out of focus in the JP one.
I never liked the snes F-Zero, but I freaking love F-Zero X after playing it on NSO. This appears more akin to the former, but I will defo give it a look.
While both are excellent in their own right, I have to go with Tears simply because of just how much more it offers on top of what made BotW great. For instance, I loved the addition of vast cave systems you could just wander into and get lost in, something that I actually thought was missing in the exploration in BotW. Not to mention the depths and the sky islands as well.
I was mildly interested in these having never played them back in the day. But the sorry state of the ports, and the huge download size kinda killed that interest completely.
@GreenRangerGohan Not everyone here, (or the world at large for that matter), identifies as Christian though. It is my right to do as I wish on a Sunday, just as it is yours to go to church.
Sometimes I'll play something relaxing like a snes platformer, more often than not tho I'll throw on an episode of star trek TNG or DS9 to watch while I have my breakfast and coffee.
Not much more to add here. One of the most legendary games of all time, with a fantastic opening ten minutes that draws you in and never lets go. If you haven't already, go play it!
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. I know you mostly don't directly control Mario, but it counts right? Always loved that game, has such a unique tone and aesthetic.
@-wc- Yeah GB Dr Mario kinda sucks. Unlike Tetris, it just doesn't work as well in monochrome. And considering NSO already has the superior nes version, seems an odd inclusion. To echo many others, where's Mario Land Dammit!
It's been a long time since I've played NSMBW, but if I recall it's the multiplayer where it really shined. The madcap insanity that ensues trying to play with three other people was utterly hilarious. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard playing a game.
@Twilite9 Oh man, I'm right there with you. I'd used to go to China town to buy bootleg DBZ ovas, then go home and pause the tape and try to sketch the various characters.

Re: Talking Point: One Year On, Has Everyone Beaten Ganondorf In Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Demon's Crest (SNES)
Oh damn, I've never seen the JP cover before, I think metal af is an appropriate descriptor.
Also this game rocks. Capcom needs to revive the series.

@Sigarrsen Absolutely. It's easy money for Capcom.
Re: The Resident Evil Franchise Has Sold An Astonishing 157 Million Units
@Sigarrsen Considering all the other Capcom collections on Switch, I'm really surprised they haven't already.

Hell yeah, looking forward to it.
Re: Random: We Didn't Know We Needed This Zelda: TOTK And Metal Slug Crossover
I remember wondering before the game came out, when they revealed the ultra hand mechanic, if link could build a tank.
Seems the answer is a resounding yes.

Haha, okay having access to the spreadshot from Contra has reignited my interest in this game.
Re: Soapbox: Vanillaware's Most Underrated Game Is More Than Just A Pretty Picture
Muramasa and Dragon's Crown Pro are defo my fav Vanillaware games. To have both on Switch or its successor would be stellar.
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Super Bomberman (SNES)
JP is the most eye catching and bombastic, heh, but I don't think I can vote for it due to the prominence of that creepy clown.

@Not_Soos That honestly sounds really cool! Then again, I am a fan of that run down aesthetic, being an explorer of abandoned buildings.

Re: Exclusive: Slave Zero X Gets An Updated Release Date For the Switch
Love the late 90s aesthetic of this, super stoked.
Re: Nintendo Download: 28th March (North America)
Picked up Surprise Attack last week, very fun arcade game. I enjoyed the quiz segments between stages.

I don't always go for new metroidvanias, there's just so darn many of them these days, this one has me intrigued tho.
Re: Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise Of The Dragons Getting Free DLC Update In April
Yay free! I enjoy this game, the combat is very satisfying.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Mario & Luigi: Partners In Time
NA is by far the best, the other two feel kinda lazy by comparison. Also, is Luigi picking his nose?
