@WaveBoy Agreed, the first half of CV is way better than the latter. I love the section with the zombie doctor, and the secret torture dungeon underneath his clinic. This is the kind of stuff I'm looking forward to seeing adapted in the remake.
Yeah the cutscenes are cool, and the character models looked amazing for the time, but I think I still prefer the pre rendered backgrounds from the older games. It just allowed for more gritty details befitting the horror genre.
And I honestly kind of love the cornball dialogue in this game, adds to the charm. Steve's line delivery after he saves Claire always cracks me up, "your knight in shining armour is here!" I feel he must've been modeled after late 90s Leonardo decaprio.
There's definitely fun to be had in this game, and it has that classic Rareware kinda spooky atmosphere, but I always found it to be a bit of a slog overall. Doesn't really hold a candle to the snes DKC trilogy.
That being said, I still have a save state on my wiiu in the factory level where you can play the Donkey Kong arcade game. It's oddly my favourite way to play the original DK.
Certainly has the potential to be incredible. Presently rereading Fellowship, I'm at the part where they journey through Moria. A game that could recreate the scope and grandeur of that part of the story would be so freakin cool.
@CallieShiver20 yeah I hear ya. I too live in a big city, and have a bit of a love/hate with it. On the one hand anything I could possibly need is a short bike ride away. Art, culture, food, it's all there. But there's also the crowds and the aforementioned cost of living. There's a good chance I'll end up in the countryside one day, but I could never leave Canada personally, I just have too much of a connection to it, in spite of it's flaws. In any case best of luck, hope things work out for you.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. Haven't played this since it first released. Don't think it quite reaches the same heights as Symphony of the Night, but it is a solid metroidvania.
I normally have no issue with remakes of old games I like. I eagerly purchased The Link's Awakening and Mario RPG remakes for instance. But in the case of Star Fox I really would've preferred something entirely new. SF64 is itself a remake of the snes original, then we had the 3ds remaster, and SF Zero which again was just a retelling of the first game.
So at this point it's like, okay time for something new guys. It's entirely possible to make something in the spirit of SF64, but be a brand new experience that builds upon the framework of what came before. I know everyone complains about the on foot missions, but I actually really enjoyed SF Assault. It wasn't a perfect game but it was moving the series forward. Fighting a giant monkey head does get old after awhile.
I love SF64, and this does look cool, but it's kind of funny they just can't seem to get away from remaking the first snes game over and over again. It's honestly a bit weird. Fox's war with Andross is truly eternal.
I'm kinda surprised he hasn't shown up already. It'd be cool if he was the main antagonist in a future movie, be a nice call back to his first appearance in Mario land 2: the 6 golden coins. But yeah, if Danny devito isn't already busy playing Tingle in Zelda, he'd be perfect for Wario.
Talk about completely opposite approaches. Not sure I really like either, NA is a bit too busy, whereas JP/EU is a bit too simplistic. It looks like packaging for a fried chicken fast food chain.
They shot the second one in my city Toronto. Not a great movie, but it is fun picking out familiar landmarks. The scene where Nemesis kills a bunch of STARS members was shot at the Westwood theater. It's been long since demolished but I saw many a movie there as a kid. Also Umbrella HQ is our city hall haha.
@WaveBoy The first Paul w.s. Anderson resident evil is definitely the best, although I'm not really a fan of those movies in general. That being said I love that Marilyn Manson track that plays over the opening sequence, absolutely sets the tone.
Hmmm, definitely seems to be a departure from the games, like if it wasn't called Resident Evil it could be any old zombie movie. I know this is just the teaser though, so it's too early to judge. Haven't seen Barbarian, but I really enjoyed Weapons, so I am optimistic.
Played it once, and traded it in, which is something I rarely do. Just really disliked the controls and the fact it was another remake of the first game.
Oh this looks awesome, I may grab the ps4 version when it comes out, (don't have a switch 2).
Incidentally my friends took me to Dave and Busters for my b-day last week, I had never been. There was this Aliens arcade shooter there that was a total blast to play, literally I suppose.
@Aphonic thank you! Yes, there were absolutely hardships, as you'd expect haha. But my experience on the show was overwhelmingly positive. Really a tight knit family, unlike any production I've worked on.
Do an original story but, retain the same arcadey style of Star Fox 64, branching paths, different vehicles, etc. But just give us more, and prettier visuals, naturally. Maybe an rpg style upgrade system? I dunno, just spit balling here.
There's no way it'll be better than the greatest SF movie, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li.
In all seriousness, looks like it might be worth it for some dumb fun. Like the good kinda bad. Ken seems appropriately douchey, lol. Also, Zangief looks like he's cgi in the shot where he's pulling the tractor.
Not sure when I'll get the chance to play this, but it's nice to see Capcom still putting out original IP like this. Reminds me of the good old days of the Gamecube/PS2 era.
@OrtadragoonX completely agree, the re2 remake is a much better adaptation of the original than the remake of 3. I was a bit disappointed however they didn't recreate the opening areas in 2, such as that basketball court with the "this too shall pass" hastily spray painted on the wall, the restaurant with the dead patrons, and going through the bus. Still, a mostly excellent remake overall.
I've got a lot of nostalgia associated with the NA cover, still have my original GC copy. I've never actually seen the EU/JP cover before, but I think I actually like it more. Certainly leaves more of a visual impact.
@Summer235 yeah the remake of 3 is still fun, but they cut out a ton of stuff from the original. I think must've had a rushed development cycle or something.
I never actually owned a Playstation when these games were new, so my first experience with them was watching my buddy play them on his. I was absolutely enthralled by the gritty realistic graphics and the machinations of the sinister Umbrella Corp. I remember watching him just blaze through the entirety of RE2 with the infinite rocket launcher haha.
Even though I already own all these games in various forms, I would be all over a collection on Switch. Do it Capcom!
It probably would've been better left a surprise for audiences yeah. However, myself being an old timey nintendo fan certainly have more interest in the movie now than I otherwise would have.
@flighty interesting you say this game has a depressing ending. I would not have guessed that looking at it at face value, it looks to be very irreverent and goofy. Although I suppose many 80s-90s anime didn't exactly have what you'd call happy endings haha. I remember being depressed for a week after watching Berserk for the first time.

Nice, looking forward to seeing how they re-imagine this one, it has a ton of potential to be creepy as hell.

@rvcolem1 it's definitely the toughest of the classic style REs I'd say.

Holy crap, didn't even realize how expensive Switch 2 already was in Canada. Price hike certainly doesn't entice me to get one.
