Re: Talking Point: What Are Your Top 5 Nintendo DS Games?

Nf157

My DS was a Pokémon machine when I was a kid, so Gen IV/V are at the top.
New Super Mario Bros was the last 2D Mario game I enjoyed so that's there.
Worms Armageddon, I would spend hours with the stylist making custom maps.
The World Ends With You is a classic.
And I'm struggling a bit to remember what else. Despite loving the DS as a kid I didn't play that many games on it.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (9th November)

I'll go for my ring fit adventure session tomorrow. Other than that I don't know.
I've got playthroughs going on echoes of Wisdom, metaphor and Kunitsu-gami path of the goddess, but I don't think I'll get to any of them this weekend. Kinda not in a gaming mood. Instead I'm attempting once again to learn how to draw. I've tried many times but I think my hands are too shaky these days to pick it up, none the less I'll give it another go.
Also finally got back into reading (or reading things that aren't manga 😅), lent a book frpm my brother called retribution falls and it's kick ass so far, steampunk pirates with a cowboy bebop style cast was how it was described to me and so far it lives up to it.

Ringfit Adventure, I hurt my back and wrist a while back and since then my exercise has dwindled and I think I've started to put a smidge of weight on, so back too it!
I'm annoyed by how much my fitness has collapsed but I've managed to get it back to 20 minutes a go, that's a start.
Other than that, Echoes of Wisdom, Gravity Rush 2 and Metaphor are my games on the go, whether or not I get to them this weekend or not I'm not sure, I'll probably be busy tomorrow watching the Aew Ppv (c'mon Mox!)

Re: Poll: Are You Ready To Move On From The Switch?

Nf157

I've abandoned most of my backlog, a decision I'm happy with. Now that I've finished TOTK ( which took me over a year ) I'm left with the final two splatfests, metroid zero mission, Echoes of Wisdom .. and I think that's it.
Depending on whether legnds ZA and Silksong are also next gen games I'm pretty much done for this gem of a console.

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Define 'Retro'?

Nf157

I say anything 3 generations back or further is retro, so PS2, GameCube etc.
But I don't know if I'll feel that way when it's the ps3/Wii's time.
Something about those games feel too similar to the games we got today, like not enough has advanced. It would be hard to call them retro but not modern games as well.

Re: Poll: So, Do You Prefer Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Or Tears Of The Kingdom?

Nf157

I haven't finished TOTK yet (I'm in no rush to finish it, I'll only have too wait another 6+ years for the next one), but I have put more time into it than my first playthrough of BOTW and my current opinion is....
TOTK is better.
The Crafting is real awesome, the three layer approach to the open world is very cool. The story appears a smidge more serious and darker (but by no means 'the darkest' Zelda).

Re: Talking Point: What DS & 3DS Games Would You Still Like To See On Switch?

Nf157

I predict a link between worlds remake shall be a year one 'next gen' game. Most of the switches life had at least one Zelda game a year, that slowed down a bit towards the end thanks to TOTK but I think they'll want to get back to it with a new console coming out.
I also think Awakening will get a remake to tide us over until the next new FE.
I wouldn't purchase either of these though as I've already got both of them but I think they'd be cool for those who haven't.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 24th)

Nf157

I've already begun with fitness boxing and Ring fit adventure (guilt free gaming!)
Now that I finished the Xenoblade 3 dlc a week or so ago I have ventured back into the world of Hyrule with TOTK. I have a feeling this will be the final game I see the credits for on switch and I like that idea 👍
I've also returned a bit to Atelier Ryza 1 and Pikmin 4.
Atelier gets a bit repetitive, that's why in put it down initially but it has it's charm.
Pikmin 4 meanwhile I'm struggling a bit with. It just feels like it keeps getting in its own way.
I'm also not a huge fan of the exploration style they've gone for, I much prefer the mission based time trials like approach of 3 but that could just be me.

Re: Talking Point: What Game Do You Wish You Could Forget?

Nf157

I always found this question difficult for some reason.
A lot of games if I played them for the first time today I don't think would have impacted me as much either because they're dated or they hit me at the right time right place.
I'm going to going to go with Mass Effect, 2 to be precise. There's nothing as timeless as a good si-fi tale, Mordins tale will always fascinated me especially.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 6th)

Nf157

XC3 Future Redeemed for me. I'm about 12-14 hours in and ye, it's awesome as expected from the Xeno games.
Kinda makes me want to start a ng+ but I'm trying to resist that urge.
Also got Baldurs Gate 3 for ps5. I'm playing a split screen campaign which is a first for this genre for me and man, what a difference it makes. So good.
The performance ain't great though, I've had 7+ crashes in my 17 hours thus far.

Re: Talking Point: Our 2024 Nintendo Gaming Predictions

Nf157

A quite year from Nintendo, with the new console being announced late in the year, and releasing the following march (much like the switch did)
I think the biggest possible games for the switch next year would be Metroid Prime remasters and a new Pokémon game (let's go 2 maybe? Or Black and White remakes?)

Re: Talking Point: Could Nintendo Go Another Year Without A Switch Successor?

Nf157

I'm all for a 2025 release myself. Such a backlog 😅
On top of that it feels like console releases happen too often now, they don't feel as special (maybe I've just gotten too old and times going to fast! They're releasing something all the time now damn it!!)
That being said after everything they've achieved with the Switch, I'll no doubt be there day one whenever they release it's successor.

Re: Talking Point: What Was The Best Switch Moment Of 2023?

Nf157

The Splatfests, in particular the one that put the three members of Deep Cut against one another. The internet really got into that one (though some got a little too into it) and that just made me fight all the harder (#TeamShiver)
And of course the early hours of TOTK where I was being a complete idiot, instead of solving the problems like a normal person, I solved them by over thinking. Those sign posts for example, I'd create massive, complicated contraptions to hold them up where as I could have just held them up with a single plank. It kinda made it funnier though, good times 👍 felt more unique back then whereas now I've grown a brain cell or two and my solutions are rather bland albeit effective 😅

Re: 30 Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games To Look Forward To In 2024

Nf157

Only Silksong, Mina, The Plucky Squire and Demon school interest me which is great news for myself.
With this likely being the final full year before switch 2, it gives me time to go back and finish my backlog and maybe even replay a few favourites. I wouldn't even be mad if the four games I'm looking forward too get delayed for the switch 2.

Re: Community: Nintendo Life Staff's Non-Game Highlights Of 2023

Nf157

Film wise Oppenheimer is my favourite this year, it may be the only time in my life the audience (which filled my local cinema for the first time in years) cheered and clapped their hands when it finished. Quite the experience.
And the film itself was great, Tenet dissapointed my greatly so it was very awesome to see my favourite director hit another home run this way.
Killers of the Flower Moon was also really, really good. I haven't seen The Boy and The heron because unfortunately it isn't coming to any cinemas close to me, I will have to wait for the blue ray/streaming release. Is what it is.
TV wise, Frieren and Vinland Saga season 2 have been the highlights. Doctor who was not too bad, better than it's been recently but not as good as it was at its peak.
Book/manga wise, Chainsaw man! The ultimate guilty pleasure!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (Christmas 2023 Edition)

Nf157

Recently finished engage (very good game) so now I've moved onto Xenoblades Future Redeemed expansion (also very good).
XB3 is now more or less guaranteed to become my most played switch game ever, overtaking BOTW with only Splatoon 3 left with any hope to out do them.
As for my ps5, I think I'll go back to AC VI or start FFXVI over Xmas. We shall see.

Re: Feature: Game Of The Year 2023 - Nintendo Life Staff Awards

Nf157

Some good games here though I've only played a handful of them.
Persona 5 Tactica was my goty- gotta love the Phantom Theives and some all out attacks!
Engage is my no.2. Didn't expect to like it as much as I did (still unsure if I prefer 3h).
Zelda is no.3, brilliant game but I haven't finished it yet. I think it'll be a slow burner and could very well end up being the final game I complete on switch (I think that would be awesome.)
I've just started Xeno 3 dlc. So far it's very possible it'll end up being one of my favourites this year as well.

Re: Talking Point: What Are The Worst Parts Of Your Favourite Games?

Nf157

Not getting the true ending in HollowKnight, or any metroidvania. That feeling of almost completing a great game only to be given the fake or bad ending because I haven't done everything. Really sucks the momentum out of it....
The Illusive man's arc in mass effect 3. The story with cerberus in 2 was really interesting, it just became really generic and boring in 3. Such a let down for me.
Boss fights or even most fights in Gravity rush games. They're amongst my favourites but certainly not for combat!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (November 25th)

Nf157

I just rushed through persona 5 Tactica (I had two weeks of game pass to finish it) and that could very well be my Goty. Interesting choice I know 😅
Now that that little detour is done it's back to Fire Emblem Engage. The more I play this game the more it grows on me which is great news of course. Story is compete nonsense but it's also not super intrusive so I'll forgive it.
I've also (stupidly) picked up FFXVI on the black Friday deals. As if I didn't have enough of a backlog, which now consists of TOTK, Mario Wonder, Pikmin 4, Fire Emblem Three Hopes, Armoured Core VI, 13 Sentinels, Xeno 3 dlc as well as others I'm just not thinking about....

Re: Zelda: TOTK And Mario Wonder Land GOTY Nominations At The Game Awards 2023

Nf157

One of those weird years where I've barely played any of the big games. TOTK wins it more or less by default for me and I haven't even finished it 😅
Would be cool to see Baldurs Gate do it though, I remember when Original sin 2 came out, it sold well and reviewed extremely well yet it wasn't even nominated. I remembered thinking if a game like that couldn't even get nominated, what would a game from that genre have too realistically do to win? Maybe now we'll find out.
