I've already begun with fitness boxing and Ring fit adventure (guilt free gaming!) Now that I finished the Xenoblade 3 dlc a week or so ago I have ventured back into the world of Hyrule with TOTK. I have a feeling this will be the final game I see the credits for on switch and I like that idea 👍 I've also returned a bit to Atelier Ryza 1 and Pikmin 4. Atelier gets a bit repetitive, that's why in put it down initially but it has it's charm. Pikmin 4 meanwhile I'm struggling a bit with. It just feels like it keeps getting in its own way. I'm also not a huge fan of the exploration style they've gone for, I much prefer the mission based time trials like approach of 3 but that could just be me.
This game was way, way better than I thought it would be. The art style even grew on my significantly. I think I still prefer three houses and awakening but not by much.
When I found out recently it was being made by the Rayman team I admit I started getting interested, but then someone told me I should get use to not owning my games so I guess I'll leave it.
Definitely 2024 (I am very smart) My actual prediction is that there won't be a proper direct until September ish time where they're show off the new console for early 2025. I can see an indie direct or two or maybe one focusing on a select game like Princess peach in the meantime.
I always found this question difficult for some reason. A lot of games if I played them for the first time today I don't think would have impacted me as much either because they're dated or they hit me at the right time right place. I'm going to going to go with Mass Effect, 2 to be precise. There's nothing as timeless as a good si-fi tale, Mordins tale will always fascinated me especially.
XC3 Future Redeemed for me. I'm about 12-14 hours in and ye, it's awesome as expected from the Xeno games. Kinda makes me want to start a ng+ but I'm trying to resist that urge. Also got Baldurs Gate 3 for ps5. I'm playing a split screen campaign which is a first for this genre for me and man, what a difference it makes. So good. The performance ain't great though, I've had 7+ crashes in my 17 hours thus far.
A quite year from Nintendo, with the new console being announced late in the year, and releasing the following march (much like the switch did) I think the biggest possible games for the switch next year would be Metroid Prime remasters and a new Pokémon game (let's go 2 maybe? Or Black and White remakes?)
I'm all for a 2025 release myself. Such a backlog 😅
On top of that it feels like console releases happen too often now, they don't feel as special (maybe I've just gotten too old and times going to fast! They're releasing something all the time now damn it!!)
That being said after everything they've achieved with the Switch, I'll no doubt be there day one whenever they release it's successor.
The Splatfests, in particular the one that put the three members of Deep Cut against one another. The internet really got into that one (though some got a little too into it) and that just made me fight all the harder (#TeamShiver)
And of course the early hours of TOTK where I was being a complete idiot, instead of solving the problems like a normal person, I solved them by over thinking. Those sign posts for example, I'd create massive, complicated contraptions to hold them up where as I could have just held them up with a single plank. It kinda made it funnier though, good times 👍 felt more unique back then whereas now I've grown a brain cell or two and my solutions are rather bland albeit effective 😅
Only Silksong, Mina, The Plucky Squire and Demon school interest me which is great news for myself. With this likely being the final full year before switch 2, it gives me time to go back and finish my backlog and maybe even replay a few favourites. I wouldn't even be mad if the four games I'm looking forward too get delayed for the switch 2.
Film wise Oppenheimer is my favourite this year, it may be the only time in my life the audience (which filled my local cinema for the first time in years) cheered and clapped their hands when it finished. Quite the experience. And the film itself was great, Tenet dissapointed my greatly so it was very awesome to see my favourite director hit another home run this way. Killers of the Flower Moon was also really, really good. I haven't seen The Boy and The heron because unfortunately it isn't coming to any cinemas close to me, I will have to wait for the blue ray/streaming release. Is what it is. TV wise, Frieren and Vinland Saga season 2 have been the highlights. Doctor who was not too bad, better than it's been recently but not as good as it was at its peak. Book/manga wise, Chainsaw man! The ultimate guilty pleasure!
Recently finished engage (very good game) so now I've moved onto Xenoblades Future Redeemed expansion (also very good). XB3 is now more or less guaranteed to become my most played switch game ever, overtaking BOTW with only Splatoon 3 left with any hope to out do them. As for my ps5, I think I'll go back to AC VI or start FFXVI over Xmas. We shall see.
After the change in game directors with sun and moon which had a more expanded and cinematic tale than usual I was more hopeful for better story telling going forward. But ye, they haven't been great. I think the set up in Arcues was cool but as much as I loved the game, the story could have been executed a lot better.
Some good games here though I've only played a handful of them. Persona 5 Tactica was my goty- gotta love the Phantom Theives and some all out attacks! Engage is my no.2. Didn't expect to like it as much as I did (still unsure if I prefer 3h). Zelda is no.3, brilliant game but I haven't finished it yet. I think it'll be a slow burner and could very well end up being the final game I complete on switch (I think that would be awesome.) I've just started Xeno 3 dlc. So far it's very possible it'll end up being one of my favourites this year as well.
Not getting the true ending in HollowKnight, or any metroidvania. That feeling of almost completing a great game only to be given the fake or bad ending because I haven't done everything. Really sucks the momentum out of it.... The Illusive man's arc in mass effect 3. The story with cerberus in 2 was really interesting, it just became really generic and boring in 3. Such a let down for me. Boss fights or even most fights in Gravity rush games. They're amongst my favourites but certainly not for combat!
@Grumblevolcano I know the feeling with the wave 6 tracks. I get extra grumpy everytime I play one of the old tracks 🤣 Like C'mon I wanna play bowsers castle 3!
I just rushed through persona 5 Tactica (I had two weeks of game pass to finish it) and that could very well be my Goty. Interesting choice I know 😅 Now that that little detour is done it's back to Fire Emblem Engage. The more I play this game the more it grows on me which is great news of course. Story is compete nonsense but it's also not super intrusive so I'll forgive it. I've also (stupidly) picked up FFXVI on the black Friday deals. As if I didn't have enough of a backlog, which now consists of TOTK, Mario Wonder, Pikmin 4, Fire Emblem Three Hopes, Armoured Core VI, 13 Sentinels, Xeno 3 dlc as well as others I'm just not thinking about....
One of those weird years where I've barely played any of the big games. TOTK wins it more or less by default for me and I haven't even finished it 😅 Would be cool to see Baldurs Gate do it though, I remember when Original sin 2 came out, it sold well and reviewed extremely well yet it wasn't even nominated. I remembered thinking if a game like that couldn't even get nominated, what would a game from that genre have too realistically do to win? Maybe now we'll find out.
@GregamanX "Sorry to everyone about all the manga talk in a gaming thread. I'll end it at that. 😂" True 😅, I'll add all of these suggestions to my list. Some good reading ahead of me!
@GregamanX I'll have to look into some of those, especially Fire Punch as I've actually heard of that one in passing. I haven't heard of the other two you mentioned that are similar to Chainsaw man but anything like chainsaw man is interesting to me. Thanks for the recommendations 👍
@GregamanX That happened to me a few months back. I've only started reading maga about a year ago and it has eaten into my gaming time for definite. Gotta love Berserk, Chainsaw man and Demon slayer for me, thinking of biting the bullet and starting Vanland Saga as well as the show was excellent.
My plan of action is Fire Emblem Engage which I've finally gotten to after buying it at launch. After that I shall return to Mario Wonder. I wasn't fussed on the opening act but I'll keep, games are too expensive to just give up on after a mere two-three hours. After that I shall return to Armoured Core VI. And then finally Pikmin 4 which I played the demo off but haven't started the actual game. Other than that I got Splatfests, 13 Sentinels, TOTK (which I'm taking a quick break from), Phantom Hourglass, Wind Waker (game cube), and Luigi's Mansion 1 on hold, and Xeno 3 DLC to get. I really need to do something about this backlog 😅
If its fully backwards compatible then I'll likely pass it on. I know two people who bought the lite and regretted not splashing out for the docked version. The question is which of the two of the should I pass it on too 🤔 But if its not BC, then I'm keeping it 💯 Too good a console to leave behind.
Not a fan of regional Splatfests- I prefer one unified one, makes it feel more definitive. As for the theme itself; meh. I mean I'll still play it and rep my team with all my power but it's hardly the most interesting thing to bicker about (for me at least)
Eunie would be sweet! That's my most wanted, I'd probably go as far as to buy a xeno 3 pack for it. More mgs ones would be great, Raiden, Big Boss, Cyborg ninja, psycho mantis, the metal gears themselves etc. Female Byleth and Robin from fire emblem would be sweet, as would a restock for Joker and Cloud Strife. Astral Chain would make some sweet amiibo! As would Rayman! I other words, there's a tone I'd still like them to make!
I finally got the final ending for Nier replicant. That and Humanity was well worth a month of ps+, not something I buy very often. Now that that's done, I'll messed about a bit in Elden Ring and maybe street fighter VI to further milk the last few days of + I have left. I got Mario Wonder and Pikmin 4 via online vouchers to fall back on when I'm bored, but this weekend it's all about Splatoween with my new in game pirate hat! #TeamZombie!
I wasn't going to buy it but I had two Nintendo online vouchers that where close to expiring so I nabbed it and Pikmin 4. It does look good, little worried it'll be too easy though, I like my 2d platformers without mercy for me! I probably won't play them until next month however as I bought a month of ps plus extra and I'm gonna milk it for all it's worth.
Despite their many flaws I look back fondly on that gen. I had fallen off Pokémon after I was done with the OG Diamond and Pearl and didn't get back into it until I bought a 3ds towards the end of its lifecycle. The whole Pokemon GO phase got me remembering the 'Good old days'. I really dug the french inspired region, wish they did more with it but I still rate it. Megas where of course something really fresh. The gang of rivals had potential, probably the biggest miss for me personally, that and a lack of things to do post credits.
I did go all digital for a while but the price of games in recent years have gotten me back into buying physical copies. Not only can you find them much, much cheaper even at launch, but you can trade them in afterwards/lend them to friends. Buying a disc version of the ps5 has saved me a lot more money than if I had just bought the digital version.
I'm quite open minded about what games get released these days but that's a bit of a boring answer so here we go! From the beggining of this systems life I asked for Persona, Arkham, Metal Gear and Fallout ports. 3 out of 4 are done (or about to be) so I guess I'll ask for a Fallout 3/New Vegas/4 port. Pyre is another game I've expected but been shocked it hasn't happened. All of their other games have hit the switch and I wouldn't mind replaying this one provided it runs well this time. Re-releasing the Gen 3 Pokémon games (Firered/Leafgreen and Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald) as well as conquest, a game that sounds cool but I just can't get my hands on it. A Splatoon soon off maybe? Surprised they haven't attempted this yet- something like what Luigi's Mansion is too Mario. I think Splatoon is begging for it personally.
I'm going though my usual post splattfest gaming slump where I played too much video games last weekend so now I don't feel like playing anything! I had Starfield and Sea of Stars on half but I think I've lost motivation with them. TOTK is still on going, in no rush to finish it. I also finally got Phantom Hourglass for the DS, I've been hunting that game down for months and I finally got a copy (for free of a friend too which is great!). I will definitely be giving that a whirl once I've gotten over my burnout, same with F-Zero 99, looks very fun.
X-men was a brilliant pick! I'd also say the 2000's Turtles, that doesn't get enough love, and Sholin Monks! I have no idea if that show holds up and I'm a little afraid to go and find out....

Hell ye, doubtful though. I'd settle for the console just having physical Media at all.

I also finally got Phantom Hourglass for the DS, I've been hunting that game down for months and I finally got a copy (for free of a friend too which is great!). I will definitely be giving that a whirl once I've gotten over my burnout, same with F-Zero 99, looks very fun.
Re: Talking Point: Which Classic Cartoons Deserve The Shredder's Revenge Treatment?
X-men was a brilliant pick! I'd also say the 2000's Turtles, that doesn't get enough love, and Sholin Monks! I have no idea if that show holds up and I'm a little afraid to go and find out....
Re: Demon Slayer Is Getting The Mario Party Treatment In 2024
That was unexpected and awesome. I'm down for it!
Re: Talking Point: What Do You Want From A 'Splatoon 4'?
@EriXz Didn't think of that. Good thinking!
