Way more than I expected! Was hoping for a new mainline fire emblem but I'll gladly take three hopes, age of calamity was great so high hopes for that one. Strikers looks really fun as does Kirby (or Herbie!) and triangle strategy. Still have to play the xenoblade games, got the first one on 3ds, one of those 'I swear I'll get to it one day' games. Chrono cross is interesting, always wanted to play trigger but it's never been available on the consoles I've own, do I need to have played that for the second? Live a live looks cool, never heard of it before but I like the concept of playing different characters from efferent eras. Whether or not I'll actually play it remains to be seen. Also no Splatoon 3 release date? That was one of my more certain predictions.
Kirby, advanced wars and Triangle strategy seem like a given (but you never know). Splatoon 3 release date in June I'm going with. They'll mention the breath of the wild sequel, simple saying you'll hear more about it later this year. Nothing metroid 😔 I think something fire emblem feels overdue, so I'm going with a new game not a remake. I was thinking something xenoblade too but that seems like too much for one direct? Maybe save either that or fire emblem for E3, but I'm predicting one of the two here.
That looked awesome. Great choices for influences too, two modern classics in my eyes but it’s also got its own feel and vibe. Could be something special.
Kirby is a very strong possibility for me, triangle strategy is somewhat likely depending on the reviews, chocobo gp looks fun but I'll wait for a sale on that one. Of course it all depends on when I finish arceus and elden ring, I'll try my hardest this year to actually finish my games before buying new ones (minus elden ring because it's elden ring)
I'm thinking the Outer Wilds on Xbox and New Pokémon Snap on Switch. Just finished Superluminal which was a good indie puzzler I'd recommend. Inception meets portal with the main mechanic being that you can alter the size and shape of objects depending on how you look at them. I was also playing Alan Wake for the first time but I'm really struggling to get into that one. Hopefully I won't give up on it but it's not looking promising.
Fallout 3 or New Vegas would be awesome, though I wouldn't be upset with 4. Pyre, that way every supergiant game can be on switch. Not sure what else I'd like. The want for a persona game on switch has come and gone for me, I guess the same could be said about all ports at this point, just bring on the new Indies/first party games.
@SupDan personally I kind of hope it is far more open and player driven than the last few games, the idea of 'heres the main hub, here's a few pokeballs, your starter and your goal to complete the first Pokédex, ok go!' sounds awesome too me. I think the last few got way to bogged down with cinematics and story, and I don't mind the open world being empty of landmarks and towns provided the Pokémon themselves are interesting to see and find, but that's just me.
Well I’m excited. Not expecting a masterpiece but I’ve always enjoyed this series even when it’s just doing the same old. It’s just a easy to enjoy formula. At the same time I’m not against it trying a few new things like this one. Love the focus on filling out the Pokédex, that was always my favourite part.
Recently starting playing tails of iron and so far its really won me over. Medieval mice fighting frogs in a hand drawn, challenging, 2d action rpg narrated by Geralt of Rivia.
Wanted to play Blue Fire but never got around to it, hopefully I will at some point though because it looks like something I’d enjoy a lot.
I’ll be saving the is video for a later date, looks like a fun watch. My favourites would be the Blastoise line, Eevee/Vaporeon, Ninetales (though I’ve come to love the alolan form more), Arcanine, bulbasaur/Ivysaur, Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Alakazam and the Butterfree line.
@OldManHermit if you liked the first little nightmares then the second one is a must buy (as is the dlc for the first game of you haven’t played them already). Some really creative imagery and gameplay mechanics that I won’t spoil but well worth the full price (I think it’s on sale at the moment too)
When I played a good amount of new games on the system and there are still a sizeable handful I wanted but never got, I’ll consider that a very good year.
277 hours overall, up by 16 hours in 2020…. Pokemon shield took no.1 most played with 113, skyward sword no.2 with 47.
Doesn’t sound too bad, until I start adding time played on other consoles then I look like the no life that I really am.
I know I got 50+ hours on sekiro and Dragon Age Origins, 30+ on pillars of eternity and halo infinite, 20+ on Deaths door, Pyschonauts 1 + 2, Forza horizon 5 and Resident Evil 8, and of course a bunch of other shorter games like little nightmares 1 + 2 and Metroid dread… maybe 2022 I’ll get a life if Arceus, Elden ring, Splatoon, god of war, Silksong, nobody saves the world, starfield and Zelda all suffer major delays to 23 but something tells me they won’t.
@Exciter89 I’ve been waiting for pyre to hit switch for ages. One of my most requested ports (provided it runs well, the PS4 version at launch was a bit iffy)
Going through this list I’m surprised at how few new games I've actually played on switch this year, felt like I played a lot of it (perhaps because of my backlog?) Little nightmares 2, Metroid dread and skyward sword are my top picks this year. Eastward is still on going for me but has potential and sky was very good and interesting but got repetitive after a few hours. Still need to get to Pokémon snap, monster Hunter stories 2, tails of iron and smt v though with how 2022 looks across all platforms I’ve probably missed my chance with them (Arceus, Elden ring, splatoon, silksong, nobody saves the world, ragnorok, starfield, Zelda are all must plays for me so… expensive times ahead)
@Teksetter I know the feeling. The last few years I’ve tried to keep only 2 games on the go at a time but I’ve slipped these last few months. Got halo, forza, Eastward, tails of iron and pillars of eternity on the go, and I got dragons dogma, dragon quest 11, Pikmin 3 and it takes two ready to go right after. And the games like the gunk, Legends Arceus, Elden ring, nobody saves the world, silksong (I assume) in the near future. There’s no way I’m getting though all this 😭 good problem to have I suppose
@Teksetter I tried the game whilst it was still on Xbox game pass. I didn’t quite finish it but it was really good (and I almost always dislike rogue likes). Very difficult, especially the first few hours when your learning the ropes but worth a play no doubt. I think I’ll probably buy the game eventually to go back and finish it (I had one run where I almost got to the end and failed…. It was too traumatic to continue)
Ah memories 😭 but I don’t really have any interest in replaying these games. I still look back on this trilogy fondly though, Ezio is one of the greats and it’s worth a play if you’re a fan of the series.
It really doesn’t feel like legends Arceus is only a month away… and it really really doesn’t feel like Elden ring is about two months away. Good gaming days ahead!
For me (worst to best); X and y, gold and silver (I know, I know), sword and shield, black and white, diamond and Pearl, sun and moon, red and blue, ruby and sapphire. I do like all the games though, one of my favourite gaming franchises, can’t wait for Arceus
50 hours into let’s go eevee, well over a 100 into shield… still not one shiny 😭. Had a tone on prior consoles (especially the 3ds games) but I’ve had incredibly bad luck with shinnies on switch. Hopefully if it does happen it’ll be a good one, like a mimikyu or something.
Hopefully finish Guardians (just in time for the new ray tracing mode). Halo and Forza will be my chill/social games for the foreseeable future. Just picked up Pikmin 3 deluxe on switch after enjoying the demo. Looking for other games on sale, thinking either hitman 3, Fenyx Rising, Divinity original sin 2, Tails of Iron or Maybe Tales of Arise if the demo is good.
Guardians on ps5, started to warm up to it more in the second half (story wise anyways, gameplay is satisfactory I guess). Forza horizon 5 too. The setting of Mexico is awesome. Once I’m done with guardians I might pick up smt v or kotor for switch, or I’ll just wait until Black Friday and see what I can get there.
Personally I would like them to try something crazy, even if it fails (at least the software would be good). But if they did continue with the switch I’d still be all for it, one of the better consoles I’ve ever owned (could’ve been no.1 with a few improvements)
I voted Tetris as number one, and pac man as runner up. They (along side Mario) feel like the biggest ground breakers in gamings history, but there are a tone of games nominated here (and many which are not) that I can also see strong arguments for.
Completely agree. Even if the devs are ‘only’ working 40 hour weeks, over the course of a few years that’s a lot of work these strangers are putting into our entertainment. Not to say games that are broken or flawed shouldn’t be highlighted for them, the customer (usually) works hard for their spending money too and should be aware of potential downsides to the project. But the term lazy in this context is just ignorant and entitled.
Not sure. Maybe I’ll get back to guardians of the galaxy. Other than that it feels like I’m in wait mode for Forza 5, SMT V and most of all Black Friday deals which is making me a bit hesitant to buy anything at the moment.
Recently finished skyward sword hd (don’t hate me, but I prefer it to botw) and I’m near the end of dread which is likely to be my favourite metroidvania since hollow knight. Don’t know what’s next though. Monster crown, Eastward, Voice of Cards, Fatal Frame, KOTOR (never played) and Shin megami tensei (also never played) are what I’ve got my eyes on for my next switch game.
If it has to be delayed then it has to be delayed. Still looking forward to trying these games out considering all the good things people have said about that.
The first few years I swapped back and forth but now I almost exclusively use handheld mode. Only ring fit adventure really uses docked mode, and my first session playing skyward sword (then reverting back to handheld)
Looks like a nice (although unnecessary) upgrade, was thinking of going for it but then I got lucky and manage to grab a ps5. No more big spending for a little while I think.
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched both splatoon 3 trailers, can’t wait for that one. Voice of Cards is interesting, the demo has mostly sold it on me but I think for this type of game the script will be the make it or break it component. Here’s hoping it’s something special. Other than that Kirby looks interesting, never played one but it looks like they’re really going for it with this one, I’ll be keeping an eye on it. Didn’t watch the trailer for Metroid because I’m already about as sold on it as can be. Hyrule warriors dlc was brief but interesting. I think I’ll wait for the remake of kotor (but maybe not), And bayonetta looks great but I’m still yet to play the second.
Deadman’s gun, far away and that’s the way it is (red dead redemption series), weight of the world and city ruins (Nier automata), rivers in the desert and beneath the mask (persona 5), night gale (gravity rush 2), main theme (three Houses), the entire journey soundtrack, pretty much anything from supergiant games. (Video game music is awesome)
I’m looking forward to giving this game a go but I won’t pre order, learned that lesson a long time ago. Wonder if they’ll add any new content like they did with xenoblade or 3D world?

So how good is Yoshi?
